In April 2018, the new generation Ford Focus debuted. The company's management organized a simultaneous demonstration of the new Ford Focus 4 generation in Germany and China. The developers position the car as a combination of modern technologies, excellent driving performance and a previously unavailable level of comfort. The latest generation of the model will be offered in three body styles - sedan, station wagon and hatchback. Exterior features and body dimensions

The new body of the Ford Focus 2018-2019 model year has a very harmonious design with strict forms. The car looks very expensive and solid, while it has a lot in common with the new generation Ford Fiesta. The “front” got a small grille, compact LED headlights and a beautiful bumper with integrated fog lights and an air intake.



The profile of the body has been noticeably updated, it looks very interesting, which is facilitated by the correct radii of the arches, beautiful ribs passing through all the side panels of the body, and the coupe-like shape of the roof. The rear of the car body in all variants of the model also looks good. Attention is attracted by large optics with LED filling. Dynamism adds a massive bumper with black plastic decor.

The Ford Focus hatchback turned out to be the most interesting outwardly, we would give the “silver” to the station wagon, but the four-door turned out to be not so harmonious.

The interior of the Ford Focus boasts a projection screen, a basic multimedia system with a 6.5-inch display or an optional multimedia complex with a 8.0-inch display (Wi-Fi, voice control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support). There is also a climate control system with a division into two zones, driver and front passenger seats with electric adjustments, heating and ventilation. There is also a top-end B&O PLAY sound system with 10 speakers with a total power of 675 watts in the list of options.

Engine range and specifications

The technical characteristics of the 2018-2019 Ford Focus involve the use of a wide range of diesel and gasoline engines that can be combined with a 6-speed "mechanics" and a new 8-band automatic transmission (mode switching is carried out by a special "washer", as in premium cars).

Petrol engines:

  • The three-cylinder 1.0-liter Ecoboost is available in three power options - 85, 100 and 125 hp;
  • 1.5-liter "four" Ecoboost with a capacity of 150 and 185 "horses". The top engine is equipped with the function of shutting off one cylinder at light loads.

Diesel engines:

  • 1.5-litre EcoBlue 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel with 95 hp (300 Nm) and 120 hp (300 Nm);
  • 2.0-liter 4-cylinder EcoBlue turbo diesel engine developing 150 forces (370 Nm).

The base petrol and diesel three-cylinder versions are equipped with a simpler version of the torsion beam rear suspension. All other modifications received a multi-link rear suspension equipped with adjustable shock absorbers.




All versions of the new generation Ford Focus are equipped with Drive Mode. Three modes are available to the driver - Normal, Sport and Eco. They change the response of the accelerator pedal, the parameters of the automatic transmission, cruise control and steering. Versions with adaptive dampers have two additional modes - Comfort and Eco-Comfort.

Prices and equipment in Russia

Serial production of the Ford Focus in station wagon and hatchback bodies will be launched in early summer 2018 at the company's German plant. For the first time, cars for North America are planned to be assembled at the manufacturer's Chinese plant. The Russian representative office of Ford reports that detailed information about the release date of new items in our market will be disclosed later.

According to forecasts, the “hot” modification of the Ford Focus RS should also debut in 2020. Under the hood of this version, the familiar 2.3-liter engine should remain, which will be combined with an on-board 48-volt electrical network. The total power of the power plant will be more than 400 hp.

The first Ford Focus cars appeared in Russia in 1999 and, since then, more than half a million of them have been sold in our country alone, which once again confirms that Ford cars are very popular throughout the CIS and in Russia in particular. It can be said with absolute certainty that the new 2018 Ford Focus will also be in great demand from the Russians. No wonder - the car is available for the middle class, the prices for maintenance and spare parts are quite democratic, the quality is up to the mark. Let's take a closer look at the Ford Focus and see what it is?

Generation 1 (1998-2004). Initially, cars were produced in Germany with Spain, a little later production was established in the USA and Mexico. And in 2002, the conveyor was launched in the Leningrad region, which predetermined the future popularity of Focuses in Russia and made them a "people's" car.

In the same year, a significant restyling was carried out and “pumped” versions of the ST170 (Sport Technology) and RS (Rally Sport) appeared.

Generation 4 (2018…). Despite the fact that the 3rd generation of Focuses turned out to be extremely successful, its time is passing and, according to the manufacturer's promises, in 2018 we will see the Ford Focus IV. It is known that the manufacturer is already testing new items, most likely the body shape itself will not be significantly changed, but many modern “chips” will appear, such as LED optics already in the basic configuration, and more modern and stylish materials will be used in the interior.

At the beginning of the calendar year, the first spy photos of the Ford Focus 4 generation appeared on the network, and on April 10, 2018, the official presentation of the model took place in China and Europe. The new car is positioned as the embodiment of the most advanced technologies and a new era of design. It will receive impressive technical specifications, a stylish exterior, as well as a comfortable and functional interior, in which everything is thought out for the safety and convenience of the driver and passengers.

The exterior of the model is characterized by such elements as:

  • elongated hood;
  • a large hexagonal grille in the style of Aston Martin;
  • windshield with an increased angle of inclination, ensuring the absence of glare from sunlight and oncoming headlights;

The work of designers and engineers is visible to the naked eye, because the new Ford Focus, which will go on sale in 2018-2019, has become even more expressive and has received a stylish modern design, which will surely ensure interest in the model from young people who value reliability, comfort and technical car perfection.

The car will be produced in three body styles:

  • sedan;
  • hatchback;
  • wagon.

Also, in addition to standard equipment, customers will be offered exclusive options:

  • Focus Active - sports cross-version;
  • Focus Vignale is a luxurious luxury car.

Although there is not much information about the new Ford Focus, some of the technical characteristics of the car are already known. In particular, we can say with confidence that the novelty will be equipped exclusively with turbocharged engines:

  1. gasoline EcoBoost;
  2. diesel EcoBlue.

According to insider information, the base for the car will be a liter EcoBoost (three cylinders) with a capacity of 100 horsepower. The most powerful gasoline engine will have a volume of 1.5 liters (4 cylinders) and a capacity of 180 horsepower. A six-speed manual will be used as a transmission in the base, both a classic automatic and PowerShift are optionally available. Some sources say that a 9-speed automatic will be announced in the Focus 4. The charged (ST) version of the car will receive an upgraded 2-liter EcoBoost with a capacity of 260 horsepower.

The drive of the car will be exclusively front, except that only the RS version can boast of 4-wheel drive.

Start of sales in Russia and price

The new Ford hatchback is officially presented, and this allows us to assert that the showrooms of Europe and China (namely, these markets were primarily counted on by the manufacturer) the novelty will appear this fall. It is difficult to say when the novelty will be available in Russia. Most likely this will happen at the end of 2018 or at the very beginning of 2019.

In Europe, the price of the basic configuration of the 4th generation Ford Forkus will start at 19,000 euros.

It made its debut back in April, but the Russian company Ford Sollers has not yet officially announced the timing of the appearance of a new model on our market. But some information was at the disposal of Autoreview. Apparently, we will have to wait a long time for the new Focus, because the production of third-generation cars at the plant in Vsevolozhsk will continue at least until 2020.

However, this is not surprising. After all, the “third” Focus also appeared in Russia with a delay: the world premiere of the model took place in January 2010, and production in Vsevolozhsk began only in July 2011. However, there is another reason for extending the life of the current model. Demand for golf-class cars in Russia sank more than the market: if in 2010 they accounted for a quarter of all demand, now interest has shifted to crossovers, and the share of class C + has shrunk to 6%.

Sales of the "third" Focus turned out to be much lower than that of its predecessor, so there is every reason to believe that investments in the organization of production have not yet been recouped. It is no wonder that Ford Sollers is in no hurry to change the generation. Moreover, so far we have no confirmation that even in 2020 the fourth-generation Focus will still be registered in Vsevolozhsk. It is possible that after the cessation of production of the third generation, the model will leave Russia, but so far this is only one of the possible scenarios.

Meanwhile, the geography of sales of fourth-generation cars is growing, and new versions are appearing in the global range. For example, the simplest Focuses with the same three-cylinder aspirated 1.5 Ti-VCT of the Dragon family entered the markets of China and Turkey, which have recently been installed on Russian crossovers. This motor develops 123 hp, and is paired with a “mechanics” or an old six-speed “automatic” 6F15 with a traditional handle. Although the new Foci with turbo engines are equipped with an automatic transmission with eight gears and a rotating washer control on the central tunnel. According to official figures, the version with a 1.5 engine and an “automatic” can accelerate to 100 km / h in 12.4 s.

In Russia, Focus with a three-cylinder engine is doomed to failure. The example of the same EcoSport confirms this: after the release of the updated version with the 1.5 engine, demand remained low (350-400 cars per month against 5200-5800 for Creta). And there is still no version with a four-cylinder aspirated in the range of the new Focus. And this is another reason why Ford is in no hurry to bring the model to our market.

The platform for the presentation of the Focus in the station wagon was the auto show in Germany in the spring of 2018. Restyling seriously walked in almost all parameters of the car. The new model will boast a significantly redesigned design, which is bound to please many, a high-quality and comfortable interior trimmed with good materials, and will also receive decent technical characteristics for its class. The car exudes the most aggression from behind. Like many similar cars, the roof here ends with a wide visor, complemented by brake lights. Everything ends with a huge armrest, inside of which there is a large compartment for things that can cool the contents.



The quality of the chairs has also improved markedly. Although the car is large, there are only five seats, so there will be enough space for each passenger to enjoy a comfortable ride over any distance. They will get off with either leather or fabrics, depending on the configuration. Also, the seats are complemented by all sorts of equipment to increase the level of comfort. In the front you can find heating, many electrical adjustments, excellent lateral support and comfortable head restraints. The rear three-seater sofa boasts heated seats, adjustable backrest, armrest with holes for glasses and its own climate system in a rich package.

The size of the trunk of the car is also impressive. The station wagon can carry things up to 1650 liters. Later, a test drive will refute or confirm this information.

The 2018 Ford Focus 4 station wagon will be powered by both diesel and petrol engines. The former include units, the volumes of which vary from 1.5 to 2.0 liters. Their power can vary from 95 to 150 horsepower, which is not so little. The gasoline range is represented by engines from 1 to 1.5 liters, giving out 85-182 forces. In the base, each unit is paired with a six-speed mechanics that transmits forces to the front axle. For a surcharge, the car can be equipped with an eight-speed automatic.

The move to the new C2 platform marked a change in the size and proportions of the car body. The wheelbase has undergone the most significant correction, increasing by 53 mm (up to 2701 mm). External dimensions were not corrected so much. Hatchback Ford Focus now has a length of 4378 mm, width - 1825 mm, height - 1454 mm. Wagon station wagon with the same center distance extended by 4668 mm, while the width and height were 1825 and 1481 mm, respectively (height including roof rails). The set of electronic assistants in the new Ford is also unusually wide. The change of platform, which led to an increase in the wheelbase, made it possible to organize a more spacious interior. The margin in width at shoulder level has increased by 60 mm (up to 1421 mm in front and 1395 mm in the rear), an additional 50 mm of free space has appeared in the legs of the rear passengers. The range of diesel engines is represented by 1.5-liter (95 and 120 hp, 300 Nm) and 2.0-liter (150 hp, 370 Nm) turbo units of the EcoBlue family.

The 8-speed automatic transmission is only for 1.0 EcoBoost 125 HP, 1.5 EcoBoost 150 HP, 1.5 EcoBlue 120 HP, 2.0 EcoBlue 150 HP engines. A six-speed manual transmission is combined with any of the listed motors.

As for the suspension, in front it is the same for all modifications of the model, but in the back two possible schemes are used - a semi-independent torsion beam and an independent multi-link structure mounted on a subframe. The first option is designed for low-power units 1.0 EcoBoost and 1.5 EcoBlue. In the case of multi-link equipment, adaptive shock absorbers Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) are installed, the stiffness of which can change with an interval of only 20 milliseconds. The presence of such shock absorbers adds two more driving modes Comfort and Eco-Comfort to the Drive Mode selector. As a standard, it has only three positions - Normal, Sport and Eco. Each mode has its own settings for the accelerator, automatic transmission, electric power steering (EPAS) and adaptive cruise control.

The ground clearance of the Ford Focus will depend on the performance. For example, the sports version of the ST-Line is lowered by 10 mm relative to the base one, while the pseudo-crossover version of Active, on the contrary, has a ground clearance increased by 30 mm.
