We are already accustomed to the fact that Chinese expansion is gradually spreading to an increasing number of goods. Today it is no longer only simple plastic toys for children. The development of microelectronics, coupled with the massive arrival of Western industries on the lands of the Celestial Empire, served the country's economy a good service. As a result, today, despite the formally communist ideology, there is no industry in which China is frankly lagging behind. The automotive industry is one of the most striking examples. Strictly speaking, cars have been produced here since the days of Mao, but there was no question of any mass production. Therefore, the government has set a task: the country by car. Even today it is not necessary to speak about its unconditional fulfillment, but certain successes are evident. Take Geely, for example. The Chinese transcription of the stamp sounds like "zhili". Literally it translates as "I am lucky." What can I say, a fairly accurate name. And the secret of the brand's success among local residents is associated, first of all, with the focus on a frankly budget car class. Over its more than twenty-year history, Geely Holding Group has not only ousted all other national companies specializing in the production of cars, but also managed to gain a foothold in the top ten world car manufacturers, becoming on a par with brands that have more than a century of history.

Facts from the history of the auto holding

They say that the phrase of Li Shufu, founder and permanent head of the board of directors of the auto concern, that in the near future Geely cars will be as popular as lighters, very quickly became a meme. One way or another, but Li Shufu's path to the heights of business was not strewn with roses. Starting in 1984 with the manufacture of components for refrigerators, the businessman quickly realized that this was not an easy business. The lack of a license led to the fact that in two years the company had to be closed. The next areas of activity of Li Shufu was the production of finishing materials. Taking into account the experience of previous mistakes, he was able to ramp up production. In the mid-nineties, a successful businessman decided to try himself in a more technologically advanced production, buying a motorcycle factory.

And in 1988 it was time for cars. The first model was a copy of the subcompact Daihatsu Charade, but then the company focused on making its own car. The car plant was initially part of the Geely Holding Group, 100% of the holding's shares belonged to Li Shufu. But he soon decided that it would be better if a separate company, which he called Geely Automobile Holding, would be engaged in the production of cars. The global economic crisis that erupted in 2008 has had the most negative impact on many Chinese companies. Li Shufu's catchphrase has ceased to be a meme, but this did not prevent the holding from increasing its presence in the global car market, bringing its exports to the landmark value of 1 million cars in 2015. It is Geely who is accused of having forced the world's largest brands - Nissan, Ford, Renault, General Motors to lower prices for their products in China.

Note that the holding still exists, and the sphere of its interests is quite extensive. In addition to the cars themselves, they produce motorcycles, power units for cars, transmissions, other spare parts, as well. Geely Holding Group's expansion extends to tourism, real estate, education and construction. But to be honest, it was the automotive industry that brought the concern worldwide.


Where Geely cars are assembled

The first car assembly plant was built in Linghai City. The conveyor started up in August 1998. At present, the total area of ​​the enterprise exceeds 560,000 square meters. At the moment, the plant is engaged in the manufacture of over a dozen models intended primarily for the domestic market. Haoqing, Beauty Leopard, Youliou - these names mean little to the Russian consumer. It is in Linghai that the main research center of the GARI concern is located, along with three branches specializing in the design of powertrains, gearboxes, and on-board automotive electronics. It is in GARI that all new models of the auto concern are being developed. A powerful scientific potential, consisting of more than a thousand qualified engineers, dozens of doctors of sciences and several academicians, allowed the company to be the first in China to independently design, equipped with a CCVT system, to develop an automatic transmission (also for the first time in China) and an innovative steering system.

The success of the company's engineers is evidenced by the fact that today the company owns more than 400 patents, of which more than 40 are licensed and actively used by many European and Asian automakers. Geely became the first private Chinese auto company to receive a government license in 2001. It was from this date that the mass production of cars under this brand began in the literal sense of the word. The range of our own developments is extremely wide and continues to grow. Among them - a completely modern gasoline, corresponding to the European Euro-5 economy, a CVT variator, a diesel CA D-CVVT, a DCT transmission equipped with a double clutch. Thanks to the efforts of Chinese engineers, the FC was the first Chinese passenger car to receive four stars in the China NCAP crash test. So we can rightfully say that affordability and security are quite compatible things. The manufacturer of the Geely brand today, in addition to the Lihai plant, has 8 more of its own assembly plants in China.

Automobile factories in Xianggang / Lanzhou

The Lanzhou car assembly plant was the first Geely plant to go overseas with the Geely Free Fleet. This was facilitated by the favorable location of the industrial complex - close to a major international airport, which operate flights to three dozen cities on the Asian continent. The total area of ​​the plant is about 700,000 square meters, where the painting, welding and finishing assembly lines are located. The Geely MK model is considered the hallmark of the plant located in Xianggang. This enterprise with an area of ​​over 370 thousand square meters. meters is located in the powerful economic zone of Jiuhua. From here, Chinsha Huangua Airport is just over 50 kilometers away. The plant was built in record time - less than a year, which did not prevent it from obtaining a certificate of the generally recognized international standard ISO 9001. At present, the Hunan Geely AutomobileParts enterprise is the pride of the concern, producing about 50,000 cars / year, although the design capacity is twice as high. The MK was replaced by the FC car, whose production Geely established in 2008. At the same plant, it is planned to produce power units, automotive components. The machines are assembled with modern robotic equipment made in Japan, Switzerland and Germany.


The largest production complex of Geely is considered to be an enterprise in Likao, built in 2002 and occupying a total area of ​​about 1.8 million square meters. meters, of which a little more than a million falls on production shops. Most of the products are the Geely MK model. The plant in Ningbo, despite its more modest size (more than 750 thousand square meters. Meters), is more versatile - several models are assembled here: Free Fleet, FC and CK runabout. Interestingly, this plant lacks a mandatory attribute of Russian enterprises - a checkpoint with a turntable. There is also no pass check, but there are two armed guards at the entrance. The enterprise is also equipped with the most modern production lines - Japanese stamping presses, Scandinavian manipulators, the management plans to master here the production of pickups, minivans and SUVs, as well as executive class sedans.

In the Ningbo county, the most modern plant is located - in the city of Chunxiao, where the production of the premium class Emgrand GC9 sedan is set up. They also plan to start assembling the HL3 executive crossover. The production area of ​​the enterprise is over 650 thousand square meters, the design capacity is over 200 thousand cars / year. Nearby is a plant in Beilong, where Geely Emgrand EC7 and SK are assembled in the amount of 150 thousand copies / year. These are Chinese cars that are very popular in Russia. Finally, at the Hajou Bay plant, many models of the Emgrand family (220 thousand cars / year) and over 500 thousand 1.3-liter power units are assembled. However, domestic dealers have the country of origin of Geely Emgrand X7 - Belarus: the main deliveries come from here, and not from China, which looks quite logical.


Geely in Russia

Since the end of spring 2007, Geely cars have been assembled in Russia. The first assembly plant was put into operation in Novouralsk (Amur plant). Since 2011, in the passport of the Geely MK Cross model, the country of origin is Russia - the production of these cars was established at the Derways plant, built in Karachay-Cherkessia. A year later, the same enterprise launched the production of the Emgrand EC7 sedan, in 2013 - the GC6 sedan. The results were not slow to affect - in 2014 Emgrand EC7 came out on top in the Russian Federation in sales of Chinese sedans. Unfortunately, since 2016, the Derways conveyor was stopped, and after a year, sales of this brand slipped to fifth place, behind other Chinese automakers. However, the network of Geely dealers in our country remains quite extensive - about 60 dealerships cooperating with the parent company under a full dealership agreement, and eleven centers operating under incomplete service contracts. In 2018, the company showed 6 of its promising new products at the Moscow Motor Show at once, including the Geely Atlas sedan (the manufacturing country is Belarus), the GS hatchback, the SX11 crossover and the GE hybrid car.


Geely in Belarus

Agreements on the creation of a joint venture between the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Belarus and the management of the Geely auto concern were reached back in 2011, but the assembly of Chinese cars at the thoroughly reconstructed facilities of the Avtogidrousilitel plant began only 2 years later. The joint venture was named Belgi. Its design capacity is 10 thousand cars / year. During the first year of operation, these capacities were fully utilized, and about 3 thousand cars (SC7 sedans, LC Cross hatchbacks, Emgrand X7 crossovers) were sold domestically, the rest were exported to Kazakhstan and Russia.

Since 2017, the assembly of the flagship GT sedan has begun here; in 2018, the plant began production of Geely Atlas. It is also planned to start issuing the updated Emgrand 7 here. Note that at the moment 51% of Belji's shares belong to a Belarusian company, a 33% stake belongs to the Chinese concern Zhejiang Jirun Automobile. It is the Belarusian enterprise that is the main supplier of cars of this brand to Russia.

We cannot say that the cars of the Chinese concern Geely are little known in Russia, since the cars of this manufacturer have been traveling on our roads for a long time. What is the Geely Emgrand X7 crossover? This car, like other cars, has its pros and cons. But, before we get to that, first we will answer the question: where is Geely Emgrand X7 assembled for the domestic market? This budget crossover for our customers is produced in China and Russia. In our country, the plant is called "Derways" and it is located in the city of Karachay-Cherkessia. The enterprise was opened here back in 2002, it functions to this day. In addition to this model, cars at the Russian plant are assembled by Geely MK and Geely Cross.

Our company produces cars exclusively for the domestic market, and the Middle Kingdom supplies the crossover to other countries. The production of the Emgrand X7 model at the Circassian plant began in 2012. In addition, the "Chinese" is assembled in Belarus at the Belaz plant and in Ukraine at the KrAZS plant. Some owners have concerns that the quality of our Russian assembly is at a low level. The fact is that in Russia the crossover is assembled using Chinese technology, SKD assembly is established here, the production process is carefully monitored, therefore, one should not think that the domestic Jili Emgrand X7 is worse than a purebred "Chinese". In any case, it's up to you.

Design and salon

During the entire existence of the car on the market, it has gained quite a lot of fans in the Asian and European markets. The car managed to achieve such success thanks to its excellent technical characteristics and youthful appearance. This car model met all the expectations of the brand's fans. It doesn't matter where the Geely Emgrand X7 is produced in Russia or China, the car has passed all the tests perfectly and has established itself as a modern and multifunctional car. An Italian design studio worked on the appearance of the updated "Chinese" in 2015. The design of the car has hardly changed. The engineers just emphasized the sporty character of the car. At first glance, the massive radiator grille with the brand's emblem catches the eye. The dimensions of the Chinese crossover are: 4541 mm × 1833 mm × 1700 mm.

In principle, the car remains outwardly as attractive and interesting. Everything inside the car is done very modestly. For the interior, the manufacturer used gray plastic and aluminum inserts. The front panel includes a display that shows the temperature mode, climate control and radio settings. The finishing materials are of poor quality, hard plastic, which will creak and scratch easily over time. But, all interior panels look neat and tidy. The interior of Geely Emgrand X7 2015 turned out to be modest and discreet. It is a pity, but the car lacks steering column adjustment for reach, there is no USB port and other necessary trifles. The driver's seat provides excellent visibility, it is comfortable and comfortable, and has a high seating position. But, a driver with a height of 180 centimeters will be a little uncomfortable, and it will not be possible to adjust the seat for himself, since this function is not available. Where Geely Emgrand X7 is produced, for some reason they did not take into account the fact that our people are taller than the Chinese.

The rear row of seats will delight the driver, it is impressive. Passengers there will be as comfortable as people who fly a business class airliner. They will be able to stretch their legs to their full length and stretch their elbows, enjoying the ride. The second row of seats is adjustable and foldable, so the luggage compartment volume is 508 liters. A full-size spare wheel is located under the bottom of the car, which is not very convenient. The driver will be able to store the tools in a special box or a convenient organizer, which are provided in this Chinese crossover.

The technical side

When creating this crossover, the Chinese paid special attention to safety, comfort and quality of the car. In the Russian market, buyers can purchase the Geely Emgrand X7 crossover with two gasoline engines to choose from. It can be a car with a 2-liter or 2.4-liter unit. The power plants are paired with both a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. For the domestic market of China and European countries, the crossover is also produced with a 1.8-liter engine.

Depending on where the Geely Emgrand X7 is assembled, the cost of the vehicle varies. The Chinese crossover is offered to buyers in three versions:

  • Comfort
  • Luxury
  • Prestige.

The price of the car starts at 649,900 rubles. The most "packaged" version will cost customers 759,900 rubles.

Disadvantages of a crossover

The dynamic qualities of this crossover are a bit disappointing. This car lacks traction, plus the automatic transmission works with a delay. If you are going to overtake other cars on the highway on this "Chinese", it is better to switch to manual mode, so you can somehow control the traction of the car. Sound insulation in general can be called normal with a stretch, but the sounds of the engine in the cabin will still be heard. The car chassis settings are also hardly exemplary. Inside the Chinese crossover, you will feel all the bumps in the road that will come across on your way. The car drives itself smoothly only on high-quality paved roads, on broken sections it will pretty much shake you.

Also, a significant drawback of the "Chinese" is a tight brake drive. To brake sharply, you will have to apply maximum effort. The vehicle's ground clearance is 171 millimeters, which is not enough for operation in Russia. Therefore, if you want to go on a picnic, be careful. Where Geely Emgrand X7 is produced, they could take into account all of the above disadvantages of the crossover. But this vehicle is perfect for those who prefer a moderate driving style. Despite all the disadvantages of the "Chinese", it is a serious competitor in its class.

К .: Last 2015, the brand finished in second place among Chinese companies. How are things this year? What are the achievements?

AND ABOUT.: The half-year is over, and soon it will be possible to summarize the results for three quarters. We hope to remain in second place by the results of 2016, at least there is every reason for this. If we look at the results for 8 months, we are significantly ahead of our colleagues, who are in third position.

However, the result in absolute terms will not be the most impressive. This year there is a change in the model range, and in reality today it has been reduced to two cars. All other models that we assembled at the Derways plant in Karachay-Cherkessia are already de facto sold out and remain in single copies.

We switched to two new models: Emgrand 7 and Emgrand X7, so the decline in sales is a completely objective thing. It is one thing to offer a proposal of 4–5 options, and it is another thing to offer only two. That being said, Geely in China has already discontinued all the models we previously sold. There is now a complete reform of production as such and the introduction of new models to the market.

Accordingly, we are also in the process of changing the lineup. Taking into account the general market decline and this situation, this year we plan to reach the figure of only 4,500 vehicles. This is a significant decline, although we had a good first quarter, we sold quite a few Derways assembled cars during those three months.

To date, we do not manufacture new models at this plant and have concentrated all our efforts on the Belgi plant. But we are not breaking off relations with Derways. Simply changing the lineup requires a restructuring of production. Geely is now preparing to launch a plant in the Republic of Belarus. It will be SKD, with full body welding and painting, so the main investment goal was the launch of this particular production site, where Geely is a direct participant.

Everyone knows that the plant in Karachay-Cherkessia, as a partner, is a contract assembler, and at one time it was decided to transfer production to Belji. We have not yet decided what role Derways will play, but in any case, now the main goal is a plant in Belarus. Most likely, the plant in Russia will have a SKD assembly of a single model. We understand very well that it is physically unrealistic to produce at one plant, even a very modern one, at the same time, and it is not very efficient economically.

К .: Models Emgrand 7, EC7 and GC6 (some of which are leaving the market) form an almost continuous line, covering the price range from 419,000 to 799,000 rubles, with a fairly small step. Which of these three models were in the highest demand?

AND ABOUT.: Let's start by saying that the Emgrand EC7 factory coded FE1 is a model that began production in China in 2009. At the end of 2014, it was replaced by a significantly updated model FE3, which is now called Emgrand 7. The main technological solutions remained, but this machine underwent a deep facelift, both external and internal.

This car is equipped in accordance with all the requirements of the technical regulations, comes with an ESP system and is equipped with an engine that complies with Euro-5 standards. For comparison, I will say that the EC7 was still following the old rules, when electronic stabilization systems were not required and there were no such emission standards.

The GC6 is the successor to the Geely MK line, assembled at the Derways factory. It belongs to the B-class. Unfortunately, today in Russia we do not have a car in class B, and we are faced with the task of mastering a new car of this line, which is now being sold in China at a very good pace. This task should be solved in the foreseeable future. We are well aware that the final way out of the crisis is not yet in sight, and segment B again grew sharply in volume. Remember, in 2012-2013 there was a decline in sales of segment B as such, and now, due to price advantages, it has begun to grow. We are faced with the task of finally adapting the car to the requirements in force in Russia and to the existing conditions.

The problem is that technical regulations require additional investments in development. The norms currently in force in China are somewhat different from the Russian ones, plus the requirement to equip the car with an ERA-GLONASS emergency notification system is added. This also implies significant additional costs both in the development of the system itself for a given class of cars, and in its installation during production. Therefore, all this will take some time, but I hope that within a year this issue will be resolved and our losses in the B-segment will be replenished.

К .: In July, it was reported that sales of the flagship sedan Geely Emgrand GT (aka GC9) in Russia would start in August, but then the dates were postponed to December. What is the reason for the delay, is the schedule on track and is there a specific start date for sales?

AND ABOUT.: These July messages did not come from us. There are many resources that often post unverified information. We never talked about the start of sales in August, we promised to present the car. We presented it at the Moscow Motor Show. A slight delay in bringing it to the market is due to the fact that now the process of completing the ERA-GLONASS certification for this car is underway. The model itself is ready for sale, it meets all the requirements of the technical regulations, all major certification work has been completed. I hope that nothing extraordinary will happen during the testing of the system, we will fulfill our plans, and in December the car will appear in dealerships.

At the same time, we are very careful and attentively looking at the certification process. When launching a car on the market, European companies simply submit a certificate for compliance with European standards, and a minimum of additional tests are passed in Russia. Chinese standards today differ very much, and we announce the readiness of a car for entering the market only when we have a ready-made OTTS (vehicle type approval certificate) in our hands and we can be sure that all tests are completed. But since all the work on the Emgrand GT is almost finished, I think that in the second half of November we will be able to announce the price and start taking orders.

К .: Regarding the model naming system. Tell me, will all your sedans be called Emgrand?

AND ABOUT.: On September 20, a presentation of the Emgrand GL car took place in China. We showed this car at MIAS, but did not make its presentation until the official premiere show at home. Emgrand was not immediately created as a sub-brand within the Geely brand. At first it was a separate name for a single car, but no one expected such a success and that this name would become a proper name. And the Geely management decided that if more than a million cars with the name Emgrand have already been sold, then the entire line of sedans will be named Emgrand, but with one clarification: this applies to cars of the C-class and above. B-class cars in China do not and will not bear the Emgrand name, that is, it is now a separate line.

К .: Don't you get the feeling that the naming system is not very logical? There are Emgrand sedans, there is a crossover and also Emgrand, and one more can be added to it ...

AND ABOUT.: Let's leave what was, as a kind of history. Currently, the names of all new crossovers that will go into production and sale in the Russian Federation will not contain the word Emgrand. This name is assigned to the sedan line, starting with a certain class. Crossover Emgrand X7 will be called simply Geely X7.


К .: That is, there will be a brand name plus a letter with a number? Or two letters with a number? Still, it is desirable to have some kind of system in the names ...

AND ABOUT.: Yes, there is a certain difficulty with perception, but we will gradually try to get out of this situation. We cannot do the same as Mercedes or Infiniti, which simultaneously changed their entire naming system for their models. Our name change will only apply to new products. We hope that we will build a clear and logical naming system within the next two years. Another point is related to the fact that we are working with a Chinese product, and the Chinese market demands its own names. We have a very different mentality, and often Chinese names are simply unacceptable for Russia. Sometimes we just cannot pronounce them, but for China it is normal. Therefore, we have to adapt or change the names for the Russian market. We have just started this work, and today, at least, all models that are sold in the Russian Federation, at least sound normal. Anyway, we do not have models with "special pronunciation" and we do not need to educate clients on how to properly name his car.

So we can say that the page of 2016 has been turned upside down, and from 2017 all models will receive new names. For example, the NL3 crossover in China is called "Bui", or rather, not quite so. In fact, we won't be able to pronounce it correctly. Therefore, we agreed with the Chinese leadership that we will use our own names for the EurAsEC countries. So, for NL3 we came up with a name and have already checked for patent purity of use on the territory of the Russian Federation. Closer to the New Year, we will officially announce it.

К .: According to the information, in the near future we should see in Russia the crossovers Geely NL3, Geely Emgrand Cross and the new generation Geely Emgrand X7, as well as the Geely GL (FE-5) sedan. Is there already a schedule for the output of these models?

AND ABOUT.: As of the schedule for the commissioning of cars, we can speak with about 90% certainty today, because we are talking about a new plant, and some unforeseen difficulties may arise, delays for weeks or even months are possible. The first product that we presented at the auto show is the Emgrand GT. Of course, the bulk of the cars will go to showrooms in early 2017, but the first of them will be sold this year. All of them are assembled at the Belji plant, still at the old site.

The NL3 crossover and the new Emgrand X7 will be assembled at Belgi's factory as the first CKD products. The plan to bring them to the Russian market is July 2017.

The third car is the new Emgrand 7. This car will acquire all new distinctive features: a different radiator grille and a different emblem, and in general it will be a substantially updated car. Its production should also be mastered at the Belgi plant in 2017, about a year later. As for the Emgrand Cross and Emgrand GL models, we are now calculating the delivery option for the Emgrand Cross from China. Given the production capabilities of the new plant, we understand that it is too difficult to put four models on the conveyor during a calendar year, almost impossible. So the Emgrand Cross and Emgrand GL models are officially scheduled for production at the Belgi plant under the CKD system for 2018, but in order to speed up the launch and not wait for the start of production, we are considering the possibility of importing finished vehicles without assembly in the territory of the customs union.


К .: At MIAS it was announced that Geely NL3 will have an all-wheel drive version. How much more expensive will it be than a front-wheel drive option? When will it hit the market, at the same time as the front-wheel drive version, or a little later?

AND ABOUT.: To begin with, I would like to say that in China, there is a completely different attitude towards crossovers. There it is possible to drive several thousand kilometers on excellent roads and without a single traffic light. Most crossovers in China are just ordinary cars with a different body type. Still, there are 52 thousand kilometers of autobahns. Therefore, the need for increased cross-country ability or adaptability to off-road driving practically does not arise there, and the market is very capacious. We are accustomed to the system of "roads and directions", and there the car market began to grow at such a rate after the roads were built, in the full sense of the word. Therefore, we have to explain a lot to our Chinese colleagues, the engineering center and the marketing department that there is some specificity in Russia.

Returning to the question about NL3, both versions will be output at the same time. We have no separate plans for the production of these models, especially since the all-wheel drive version of the NL3, assembled in China, has begun to be supplied to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

As for the difference in price, this is the case. We still have two engines for this model, and one of them is a 2.4-liter one, which is designed for four-wheel drive. But there is one problem here. In the minds of the Chinese, if there is a four-wheel drive, then it should be a luxury package. And now we are doing a "reverse conversion" so that the complete set, including the base one, could be with all-wheel drive. After all, there are people who need "full stuffing", and there are those who need all-wheel drive in the first place, and everything else is possible.

Taking into account the current exchange rate component, because we do not completely manufacture the car here and are largely dependent on the exchange rate situation, primarily with the US dollar, the real difference will not be more than 100,000 rubles.

К .: Can you reveal what engines the NL3 crossovers will be equipped with?

AND ABOUT.: The engine range includes 1.8 turbo and 2.4 naturally aspirated. In principle, this car also has a two-liter engine. We are now studying all the options in order to finally decide which modifications will be collected here.

К .: Are there no diesel engines? Probably, in our conditions, it really makes no sense to make efforts to install diesel engines on sedans, but in the case of a car like the NL3, the version with a diesel engine would be a success in many regions.

AND ABOUT.: Quite possible. But the question is that Geely does not have its own diesel. There is no reason to buy from some company and license a diesel engine either. The second problem is that even the European Union does not yet know what to do with diesel engines if the new Euro 7 standards come into effect. Even with Euro 6, everyone now has problems with bringing diesel engines to this standard.


Accordingly, the Chinese side is well aware that some threshold values ​​may come for light vehicles, after which it will become impossible to improve the environmental performance of a diesel engine. Therefore, now all Chinese companies are investing in the development of hybrids and electric vehicles, believing that they are the future. Today, for example, Geely already sells about 2,700 Emgrand 7 vehicles with electric motors. The company's office park consists exclusively of such electric vehicles. A huge number of taxis in Hangzhou city are represented by electric Emgrand 7.

The Chinese side is fighting for the environment and has actively begun to develop the infrastructure of charging stations. The state invests money and administrative resources in this. With such strong support at the highest level, I think China will emerge as a leader in these products.

Again, if the expected changes in the payment of excise taxes take place, and diesel fuel starts to rise in price and equals the price of 95th gasoline, then this will have its effect. Plus, in the crossover segments of the budget and mid-price category, diesels are not very popular. In China, in general, there was a complete misunderstanding of why to equip a passenger car with a diesel engine. There was initially a perception that "diesel" means "truck".

К .: How is cooperation with the Belji plant developing? What are the achievements and what are the problems?

AND ABOUT.: Belgi has two production sites. Site No. 1 is the old site from which we started our production in 2015, the former premises of the Borisov plant "Gidrousilitel". To date, the construction of a new plant has entered the final stage closer to the famine of Zhodino, on the border of Borisov and Zhodinsky districts. Geely cars have always sold very well in Bashkiria, and things are not bad in Tatarstan. Omsk and the Omsk region can be noted beyond the Urals. From regions - Rostov, Krasnodar, Stavropol, in general the south of Russia. There, of course, sedans are historically preferred. But now it is difficult to talk about statistics: in 2013, when it came to 28,000 cars sold, the statistics were more explicit.

К .: Now we usually ask everyone what type of cities you can consider as your support territory: Metropolitan, million-plus cities, or cities with up to 500,000 inhabitants?

AND ABOUT.: Today Geely has 60 dealerships and 11 dealerships that operate under a service agreement. We have dealerships in all cities with a population of over 500,000. Of the relatively small cities I can name several cities, such as Almetyevsk, Tuymazy, Orsk. But when we look at the registration, we see, for example, that 60% of the cars purchased in St. Petersburg remain in the city, and 40 go to the region. In Moscow, the proportion is different: 30% remains in the capital, and 70% of registrations are in the regions, and not only in the Moscow region. For dealerships in cities with a population of one million, this ratio is 50:50, that is, half of the purchased cars go to regional centers, urban-type settlements. Previously, the situation was even more interesting: no more than 20% of cars remained in cities where dealerships are located, and the rest fell on "transit sales". К .: In many cities of Russia you can see Emgrand models working as a taxi. What can you tell us about working with taxi fleets? Is there any special equipment that meets the needs of the carriers, or the cars differ only in color?

AND ABOUT.: The majority of Geely's taxi vehicles that you see are the result of the Taxi-24 project, which was carried out by the Derways plant with the support of Geely in 2012. All these cars were produced in 1.5 Standard and 1.8 Standard trim levels. This project brought to the market about 1,500 vehicles in this version, and was very successful at the first stage. Geely Motors Rus was not directly involved in the project, we only provided technical support, supply of spare parts, etc. there are other companies that bought cars from Taxi-24. In addition to him, there were large projects in Moscow, Rostov, Taganrog, Kemerovo. There we helped our dealers. There was a small project in Samara, not our own, but where we provided certain conditions for the purchase of a large batch of a private company.

Generally speaking, the taxi as a business today looks very motley. Many taxi companies belong to large dealerships, which needed to sell large quantities somewhere. I think that after the start of mass production at the Belgi plant of the updated Emgrand 7, we will begin to look more closely at this issue. The current production volumes of Emgrand 7 do not allow us to talk about serious bulk purchases for large companies, and within the next year we will not independently organize programs with a taxi.

K: What is the proportion of women among Geely customers? What Geely models are in the highest demand among women?

AND ABOUT.: Of course, we have such data. As part of the CRM system, which we launched last year together with our dealerships and are now closely monitoring, now 30% of customers are women, 70% are men. The fact is that if we take big cities, then a woman in a car with a manual transmission can be seen very rarely.

Geely does not have many cars with an automatic transmission, and small cars such as MK and MK Cross or GC6 did not have automatic versions at all, and women just gravitate towards small cars. Plus, a significant part of our sales falls on small towns, villages and rural settlements, and there women do not drive a car very often. Accordingly, the expansion of the model line towards a larger number of versions with an automatic transmission, as well as a change in consumer geography, will begin to change this trend in our segment and will lead to a certain shift in gender preference.

К .: At the beginning of 2015, Geely had 93 dealerships in 74 cities. What has changed during this time? How many companies have refused to cooperate with the brand for one reason or another, and how many have joined?

AND ABOUT.: Already in the middle of 2015, we perfectly understood what we would have to face in 2016, first of all, bearing in mind the reduction of the model line and the limitation of production. Analysis of the general situation on the market showed that we did everything right: we independently assessed the efficiency of the existing 93 dealerships. At the time of the decision, their number was reduced to 87.


The decision to terminate the dealer relationship was made to those centers that showed the lowest efficiency, and not only and not so much in terms of sales, but also in after-sales and warranty service. We have had a hotline system for more than two years now, and we could compare the number of negative reviews in relation to a particular center. For each of the dealerships, we carried out a multivariate analysis, and based on its results, we made a decision to terminate the contracts.

But, on the other hand, we understood that it was absolutely pointless to maintain the efficiency of the dealership with sales at the level of 2-3 cars per month, so we stopped cooperation with a number of centers in the field of sales, leaving the dealership agreement to operate in the field of service and warranty services. ... Today we have 60 dealerships operating in 53 cities.

К .: Do you rely on mono-brand or multi-brand dealerships?

AND ABOUT.: Today, most of our dealers are multi-brand. This is due to the history of the brand's development in Russia. Back in 2012, we supplied only one Geely MK car, and there was no economic feasibility in a mono-brand dealership. In doing so, we always strive to create a dedicated showroom and certified staff for the brand in all centers.

The rapid growth of the brand on the local market and the change in the model range make constant adjustments to the requirements of the dealership. Over the past two years, Geely has introduced three products of a completely different level, corresponding in design and technical parameters to Korean and some European brands. And our clients are already expecting an appropriate attitude towards the quality of the services provided.

In order to meet the level of consumer expectations, in 2017 we are starting to rebrand the dealer network with an emphasis on the creation of mono-brand centers. Taking into account the current state of the automotive market and the expansion of the model range to six models by 2018, we set aside two years for this process. With the existing model range, the economy of the dealer enterprise will not allow mono-brand salons to survive.

К .: What brands and models do you consider to be Geely's main competitors in Russia? What do you think is the main competitive advantage of the brand?

AND ABOUT.: If we talk about the Geely Emgrand 7, Emgrand X7 models, then for us the traditional competitors are cars of Chinese brands, some models of AVTOVAZ and Renault. With the advent of the Emgand GT and the Geely NL-3 crossover, we are considering Korean brands as competitors. And the main advantage of the brand was and remains the ratio of price and quality, rich equipment and design of cars.

How is Geely assembled outside of China?

Already in 2003, the company started to spin up enough and began to supply its cars abroad (the first model was Geely Free Fleet). With the start of export, the owners of the company, positioning their cars as accessible to everyone, began to look for SKD opportunities in the countries of sale. Transporting a car for large parts and assembling it on site is often more profitable than transporting an entire vehicle.

In Ukraine, Geely Automobile entered into an agreement with the AIS Group of Companies for the assembly of some models of its cars. At the Kremenchug car assembly plant, they assembled almost all models currently being produced (including the popular five-door sedan Geely Emgrand 7). Unfortunately, at the end of 2015 KrASZ was declared bankrupt.

The closest assembly center to us is now located in Belarus - a joint Chinese-Belarusian enterprise "BelGi" (Borisovo). An interesting point: the owners of the company have launched the construction of a new plant between Borisov and Zhodino, where the full production cycle will take place.

At the Ukrainian enterprise KrASZ, the following manipulations were performed (basic for this type of plants):

  • receiving a car with a fully assembled interior;
  • installation of chassis (completely), engine and gearbox;
  • assembly quality control on a special track;
  • bench control (electronics, motor, shock absorbers).

In addition, all shipped parts are pre-tested at the factory in China. Such a multi-stage check allows you to save the transport from many troubles later, during operation.

So, on the basis of the above information, several conclusions can be drawn.

I am a biology teacher with 28 years of teaching experience. Place of work - MAOU Secondary School No. 5 with in-depth study of chemistry and biology in the city of Staraya Russa, Novgorod region. I teach in classes with basic and advanced study of biology.

I love my job. I love the long school corridors and the smell of chalk at the blackboard, I love it when the lesson is successful, and the eyes of the children burn with a spark of interest, I love talking with students about life and much more. I can find an approach to any student, I think that the main thing is interest in the subject, the desire to work.

I teach according to my own teaching aids. They are written taking into account all the requirements of the biological program, fully correspond to the materials presented in the exam and the exam and are constantly being improved. If necessary, I can use in-depth textbooks to prepare for the Olympiads. During the classes, I actively use a wide variety of test tasks, tasks and exercises in various sections of biology, including those of increased complexity.
