In August 2013, the domestic SUV UAZ Patriot celebrated its 8th anniversary and, in honor of its birthday, presented itself to its fans in a new version of the 2014 sample. The official presentation of the next restyled version of the Patriot took place on August 6 in Ulyanovsk, and during it the UAZ management boasted of its sales success: if in the first year of the Patriot model's existence, dealers sold only 8,500 cars, then by the end of last year, 27,000 SUVs were sold, and this year this figure will exceed 30,000, unless of course the UAZ Patriot 2014 model year, sales of which have already begun, will appeal to domestic buyers.

Externally, UAZ Patriot 2014 is difficult to distinguish from its predecessor - the cars are identical except for the LED elements in the daytime running lights. The dimensions of the SUV remained the same: the length is 4700 mm, while the wheelbase is 2760 mm, the width with mirrors does not exceed 2100 mm, and the height is limited to 1910 mm. The Patriot's ground clearance is 210 mm, while it is able to overcome a ford up to 500 mm deep.

The body structure has not undergone major changes during restyling, but some elements have been further strengthened. In particular, the hood is made from a new type of metal, which is why it has become much heavier, which forced the manufacturer to abandon the usual hydraulic supports and change them to mechanical hinges, supplemented by a long stop (return to the past, not otherwise).

The interior of the Patriot's five-seater saloon has changed more noticeably. First of all, we note the new headliner. She is finally solid, more pleasant to the touch and got rid of the eternal problem of sagging in the center. The layout of the front panel was changed last year, but now the quality of fit of the parts has improved slightly, and the plastic has become a little softer. New ceiling handles appeared above the doors (seemingly borrowed from Lada Kalina). The gearshift lever has become a little shorter, it fits easier in the hand, and annoying backlash disappeared when shifting gears. Disappeared, of course, not completely, but the progress is obvious and clearly visible.

Now let's move to the trunk. Here, the developers have applied a completely new upholstery with a very secure fit and a high level of fit, at least on the new car nothing dangles and does not creak when pressed. The boot shelf has also changed, but it's hard to say anything good or bad about it. By the way, in the luggage compartment there is one more detail "stolen" from Lada Kalina - this is the lighting shade on the right side. Its location, it must be admitted, is not entirely convenient - with a full load of the trunk, there is little sense from it. The capacity of the cargo compartment remains the same - 960 liters in standard condition and 2300 liters with the second row of seats folded.

Specifications. UAZ Patriot 2014 did not receive new engines. The choice of the buyer was left with the previous engines: one gasoline and one diesel. The basic is considered to be a gasoline four-cylinder unit with a working volume of 2.7 liters, the maximum power of which is 128 hp. at 4600 rpm. The torque of the gasoline engine at its peak rests on the mark of 209.7 Nm, achieved already at 2500 rpm, which allows the SUV to have excellent qualities in terms of cross-country ability. But in the conditions of a high-speed highway, the motor of rapid acceleration will not give the UAZ, so overtaking a truck cannot be called a pleasant experience, especially since the Patriot's speed maximum is 150 km / h.
With regard to fuel consumption, the average level of gasoline consumption is predicted by the manufacturer at around 11.5 liters at a driving speed of 90 km / h. In off-road conditions, the consumption easily jumps up to 20 liters, so it was not for nothing that the developers supplied the UAZ Patriot with two gas tanks with a total volume of 72 liters.

The diesel engine is even less impressive. Its working volume is 2.2 liters (2235 cm3), and the maximum output does not exceed 113.5 hp. The diesel engine, of course, produces more torque - 270 Nm at 1800 rpm, which is very useful on the off-road, but does not give any advantages on the highway. Moreover, the maximum speed of the diesel version of the UAZ Patriot does not exceed 135 km / h, where a frequent desire to overtake someone is unlikely to appear. Pleases only more economical fuel consumption - 9.5 liters.

Both engines of the UAZ Patriot 2014 model year are aggregated only with a 5-speed "mechanics", but the Patriot's distribution box is now new. The old noisy UAZ transfer case is finally a thing of the past and its place was taken by a modern Korean transfer case from Dymos with a gear ratio of 2.56 instead of the previous 1.94, which made it possible to significantly improve the Patriot's cross-country ability. In addition, the new transfer case is practically silent, and it is controlled by means of a convenient washer, and not a mechanical lever. However, this decision, which brings UAZ Patriot 2014 closer to the class of crossovers, will not appeal to all off-road driving enthusiasts. The fact is that if the engine stalls when the low gear is on (4L mode), then the low gear is turned off automatically, and then it may not turn on, i.e. it will take a few hundred meters to travel before the electronics "come to life." Given the fact that the engine in mud or on a difficult climb can stall quite often, such a behavior of the Korean handout does not inspire much optimism.

The chassis of the UAZ Patriot 2014 remained practically unchanged: a dependent spring suspension at the front and a dependent structure with two longitudinal semi-elliptical small-leaf springs at the rear. Of the improvements made, we single out a new principle of operation of the handbrake drive: if it previously blocked the propeller shaft, now it blocks the rear wheels.
The main braking system remains the same: disc brakes with two cylinders at the front and drum mechanisms at the rear. In all modifications, the SUV is equipped with a power steering.

Options and prices. Petrol UAZ Patriot 2014 is offered in five trim levels: basic "Welcome", "Classic", "Comfort", "Limited" and "Trophy" for connoisseurs of a completely off-road style. The diesel version is limited to the Comfort, Limited and Trophy equipment. In the basic version, the car is equipped with 16-inch stamped wheels, athermal glass, immobilizer, central locking, head restraints, fabric interior, full power accessories and a full spare wheel.
The price for the new UAZ Patriot starts at 499,000 rubles. The most affordable diesel version will cost at least 711,000 rubles. According to the manufacturer, the next update of the Patriot is scheduled for 2015 (then the SUV will receive a new gasoline engine, different optics, other bumpers and a whole set of minor interior improvements).

The installation of the RCP from Dymos on the UAZ Patriot in 2014 entailed a change in the frame cross member, the rear universal joint changed its dimensions and lost the intermediate support. The design of the handbrake drive has also changed, now the parking brake cables are attached directly to the brake drums of the rear wheels.

The new transfer case made it necessary to significantly improve the ergonomics of the arrangement of the controls. The control unit for power windows and rear-view mirrors has moved to the armrest of the driver's door. For the front passenger, the glass electric drive button is also registered on the armrest.

The materials for finishing the seats have become of higher quality, options have become available in the face of heated windshield, heated front seats and a separate heater for those sitting in the back. Inside, the SUV has become much more comfortable, and most importantly, quieter. The Korean handout does not irritate the driver and passengers with howling, hum and rattling of levers. When the front axle is connected and the downshift is activated, it is quiet in the cabin, and you can only find out about the inclusion by the indication on the dashboard.

At the beginning of the review, we said that the updated UAZ Patriot of the 2014 model year cannot be distinguished externally from the car of the 2013 model, this is not entirely true. The new body of the UAZ Patriot 2014 sports headlights with LED daytime running lights.

It can be safely stated that the current restyling (new electronic control gear, improved ergonomics) and updates carried out at the end of 2012 (installation of a modern soft-touch instrument panel, new door and ceiling upholstery, a qualitatively new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, advanced multimedia systems with hands free) made it possible to raise the UAZ Patriot 2014 to a higher quality and higher level, while maintaining the high off-road potential of the Russian car.

UAZ Patriot is an off-road vehicle of frame construction, the production of which was launched in 2005 in the city of Ulyanovsk at the car plant of the same name. For the design of this model, a sample was taken of the popular at that time off-road vehicle UAZ "Simbir", which had the factory name UAZ-3163.

But on the 2015 UAZ model, this engine will not be installed.

As before, the role of the transmission is performed by a five-speed manual gearbox. The wheels are fully driven - Part Time, the rear axle is constantly rotating, and the front is manually connected. Efforts are distributed to the drive axles by a transfer case with an electric drive.


Logically, cars of this class cannot be classified as racing cars, but the power of the UAZ engines is enough to confidently drive them both in tense city traffic, where dynamic acceleration and maneuverability are required, and on bad road sections, where ordinary sedans have no place.

The gasoline engine will make it possible to accelerate to 150 kilometers per hour. In 20 seconds, the car will accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour, while consuming 12.5 liters of 92nd gasoline in the combined cycle; 10.5 l. on the highway, and 14.5 liters. in city mode. When driving at a speed of 90 km / h, the average fuel consumption will be 11-12 liters, and at 120 km / h - 15-16 liters.

With a ZMZ 51432 diesel engine, the car reaches a maximum speed of 135 kilometers per hour, accelerating to 100 kilometers per hour in 22 seconds. Diesel fuel consumption in highway conditions will be about 9.5 liters at a speed of 90 km / h. As tests have shown, when converting a gasoline unit to gas, fuel consumption began to be 16 liters per 100 kilometers.

UAZ Patriot 2015 has the following dimensions.

Comfort & Limited - (length, wheelbase, width and height) - 4785/2760/1900/2005. 1600 mm - front and rear wheel track for the basic Classic, and 1610 for Comfort and Limited. Weight 2125 kg. for cars equipped with gasoline units and 2165 kg. for diesel engines. The maximum permissible weight of "gasoline" cars is 2125 kilograms and 2165 for diesel versions. The maximum weight of the transported cargo is 525 kg. And as a result, the weight of the entire car will be 2650 and 2690 kilograms, respectively.

It will not be superfluous to note that the passport carrying capacity corresponds to 525 kilograms, but tests show that the weight of 600 kg is quite on the "shoulders" of this SUV. The ground clearance, or ground clearance for all trim levels, is 210 millimeters. without difficulty, half-meter recesses, which is its excellent advantage in muddy roads. The updated UAZ Patriot has risen in price. The starting price of the model is 649,000 rubles (excluding the discount on disposal). The increase amounted to almost 50,000 rubles. The basic version of the Classic, to put it mildly, does not shine with a variety of equipment. Interesting, perhaps, is the power steering and power windows on all doors. And no air conditioning, no ABS. All this is available, starting with the Comfort configuration, which will cost at least 699,990. For a diesel engine, a surcharge of 70,000 rubles. The price of the top version can reach almost 820,000 rubles, which can make your head spin.
