The SsangYong Kyron frame jeep entered mass production in 2005. Initially, it was assembled in Naberezhnye Chelny, later production facilities moved to Vladivostok.

Technical filling and equipment

The ground clearance of the Korean SUV is 210 mm. For all-wheel drive, the Part Time system was used, there is no center differential. The driver independently controls the distribution of traction, choosing one of the modes: 2H, 4H, 2L, 4L. 4L mode includes a downshift.

As power units, engines with a volume of 2.0 to 3.2 liters are used. Only two versions were delivered to Russia: SsangYong Kyron 2.3 gasoline and 2.0 diesel. These engines are paired with five-speed manual and automatic transmissions with four, five or six steps.

Even the basic versions of the model delight with rich equipment: ABS, EBD, air conditioning, heated seats, full power accessories. In the top versions, climate control, ESP, leather interior, a good audio system, and a sunroof appear. It turns out that for moderate money you get a solidly equipped jeep with reliable power units borrowed from Mercedes-Benz. These units cannot be considered the height of manufacturability. But they are time-tested, have proven themselves well on the legendary models of the German automaker.

Strengths and weaknesses of the SsangYong Kyron engine

D20DT

The 2.0L four-cylinder turbodiesel engine produces 141 hp. with. power, while the torque reaches 310 Nm. It is manufactured under license from Mercedes-Benz, with proper maintenance, about 250 thousand km go without problems. The timing chain tensioner is considered a weak point, some car owners have encountered a jammed drive belt tensioner, sticky glow plugs and starting problems in frosts below -25 ° C. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended to change the standard battery to an analogue with a larger capacity - over 90 Ah, and also refuel only at proven gas stations. If you are not sure about the quality of diesel fuel, add an additive to it. This will remove water from the fuel, minimizing the risk of its partial or complete freezing, increase the cetane number, reduce the load on the catalyst and particulate filter, help clean the combustion chamber and decoke the piston rings, and protect fuel injectors from wear.

In order to prolong the life of the D20DT turbocharger, which often does not take care of more than 150 thousand km, it is advisable not to turn off the engine immediately after intensive driving on the highway. Let it run for a few minutes at idle. Install a turbo timer if possible.

So, despite the occasional breakdowns of the SsangYong Kyron D20DT, which are associated with the low quality of domestic fuel, climatic features, untimely maintenance, the diesel version is in demand. This is due to good dynamic performance and low fuel consumption - from 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle. But in order to enjoy a trouble-free ride for as long as possible, we recommend that you strictly adhere to the maintenance schedule, plus prophylactically treat the motor. 7.5 liters of oil are placed in the ICE lubrication system. For double processing, you will need one package and one package. The additive forms on the working surfaces a dense layer of cermet with a low coefficient of friction - from 0.003 to 0.007. This will reduce local temperatures, slow down the processes of oxidation and oil decomposition. The newly formed layer does not experience deformation stress, since it has the same coefficient of linear thermal expansion as the metal itself. Its thickness can reach 0.7 mm, and the structure itself is microporous, which helps to keep the oil film on the working surface.

Thanks to the use of the additive, worn contact surfaces will be restored and strengthened, compression will normalize, fuel consumption will decrease by at least 1 liter, and wear during cold start will be reduced. , RVS-Master helps when the engine is troiting, oil and fuel consumption increases.

G23D

The SsangYong Kyron's 2.3-liter petrol engine produces 150 horsepower. The in-line four-cylinder unit is the prototype of the 111th Mercedes-Benz engine. It drives well even on domestic AI-95 gasoline, although it is rather weak for a heavy all-wheel drive jeep. Among the shortcomings of the G23D are the leaking rear crankshaft oil seal and valve cover gasket, failing oxygen sensors. As for the resource, the G23D can go under 300-400 thousand km. The main thing is to properly maintain it, avoid overheating, water hammer, etc.

If you feel that the dynamics have worsened and the SsangYong Kyron consumption has increased, you will have to carry out a comprehensive diagnosis. In the event of natural wear of the power unit, the RVS Master additive will help restore compression, normalize consumption and power. In the ICE lubrication system 7.5 liters of oil. Therefore, for one treatment, you will need half of the package. The results from the use of the additive are as follows

  • Restoration and hardening of friction units.
  • Increasing pressure in the oil system.
  • Reduced oil and fuel consumption.
  • Minimization of noise and vibration levels.
  • Simplification of start-up at sub-zero temperatures.

Increasing the resource of manual transmission and automatic transmission, all-wheel drive SsangYong Kyron

In the basic version, the Korean SUV is equipped with a five-speed manual. For Kyron with a diesel engine, a five-speed automatic transmission is used, and the G23D gasoline model was equipped first with a four-band, and then with a six-band automatic. Automatic transmissions have similar malfunctions: jolts, twitches when switching, automatic transmission goes into emergency mode, failure of control units. Although this rarely happens with the five-speed automatic Mercedes-Benz - 722.6. With careful operation, it can walk 400-500 thousand km. But the six-speed DSI-6 M78 is less reliable. The torque converter often fails in it, incomprehensible vibrations appear with subsequent damage to the transmission.

To make the SsangYong Kyron automatic transmission run longer, we recommend treating it with an additive. This will restore the gears, gear wheels, reduce the noise of the box, eliminate vibrations, make switching easy and smooth.

For a manual gearbox and all-wheel drive SsangYong Kyron, an additive is suitable. It will build up a layer of cermet on the friction surfaces. But keep in mind, driving all-wheel drive around the city and the highway all year round is not worth it. This is fraught with the failure of an expensive transfer case. For normal driving on public roads, use 2H, and for sand, mud, snow, use 4H.

SsangYong Kyron is a frame-type SUV with all-wheel drive without a center differential from SsangYong (South Korea). The company is one of the five largest vehicle manufacturers in South Korea.

First presented in Germany in 2005. In 2006, the car appeared on the Russian market. Since 2007, SsangYong Kyron has been produced in a restyled version. The production of the SUV was carried out in 2005 - 2015. During this period, SsangYong Kyron has become the best-selling crossover in the world.

Power units are presented from Mercedes-Benz.

SanYong Kyron is an excellent family, comfortable SUV for daily use both in urban and off-road conditions. The price-quality ratio makes this brand even a used car popular among car enthusiasts.

Weaknesses SsangYong Kyron

  • Sealing rings of the heat exchanger;
  • Flywheel;
  • Steering tips;
  • crankshaft sensor;
  • Valve cover gasket.

Over the years of operation of an SUV in urban, rural, off-road conditions, a car with different engines and gearboxes has shown certain weaknesses.

Most of the data collected on a turbocharged diesel 2 liter. engine, since it was this motor that was most often used in configuration in Russia.

Engine.

Diesel 2 l. (141 HP)

Sealing rings of the heat exchanger. The reason is their weakness. Oil can penetrate antifreeze. The resulting mixture is the mortal enemy of the whole engine. Tip: regularly check the condition of the rings at the service.

In cars 2005-2007. there is a high chance of power loss. During this period of release, the compressor is located in a place of increased accumulation of dirt and dust, so it is necessary to check the vacuum modulator.

In the Park Time transfer case, rotting of the contacts on the connectors of the mode control motors is regularly observed. The front axle is not connected. This weak spot SsangYong Kyron will help to solve the installation of a special plastic tray that will protect the connectors. It is recommended to check its availability or install it before buying.

Gasoline 2.3 l.

Weak valve cover gasket. Rear crankshaft oil seal;

Unbalanced support shaft. Vibration is felt at a speed of 70 km per hour.

Transmission.

In the case when the car is with an MKPP (diesel 2l.), The flywheel is the problematic unit. When replacing the clutch, it is advisable to check its condition.

Diesel with automatic transmission. The poor performance of the AKKP is associated with problems in the firmware. Re-flashing the box control unit will help smooth out jerks in the operation of the machine, increase the resource. Permanently blocked four-wheel drive in operating conditions only on an asphalt surface leads to overheating of all transmission units.

Malfunctions of the crankshaft sensor. Replace it as needed.

The instrument panel is separated from the general multiplex wiring system. Consequences: it is possible to twist the mileage without problems, since the odometer readings are not duplicated.

Chassis.

Weak suspension of the ball upper and lower bearings. The resource of supports for machines manufactured before 2011 is 10 - 15,000 km. Since 2012, SUVs with reinforced ball joints have been produced, the resource of which already reaches 50,000 km.

Steering tips come out about 30 - 40,000 km.

When buying, you should pay attention to the condition of the steering shaft cardan.

The operation of a crossover in a metropolis leads to frequent breakdowns of the radiator. Chemical reagents easily penetrate into the radiator through a wide grill opening.

It should be understood that the technical, external condition of a used car depends entirely on the operating conditions, the timely passage of a technical inspection. The service life of components, assemblies and systems depends on the applied loads, replacement with original (high-quality) spare parts or oils.

The main disadvantages of SsangYong Kyron

When buying a car, it is worth remembering that the number on the frame of these cars quickly rusts. You should immediately pay attention to the integrity of the room.

  1. The SUV often exhibits jamming of the outer door handles.
  2. Painted plastic in the cabin is easily scratched and overwritten.
  3. There is frequent burnout of the heating coils of the seats.
  4. A definite drawback of Chiron is the lack of a dipstick for checking the oil level in the box. This makes it difficult to independently determine the amount of oil.
  5. On cars 2008-2009. issue often found cracks on the left front fender. This is due to the weakening of the battery pad welding.
  6. On a cold AKKP it works indistinctly, with jerks.
  7. The rear springs of SsangYong Kyron of all years of production sag. For a softer and more comfortable ride, it is recommended to replace the springs from the Kia Sorento or Chevrolet Niva.
  8. A certain discomfort when driving creates the noise of rubber wheels.

Conclusion.

Comparing all the pros and cons of the SsangYong Kyron SUV in a used condition, different conclusions can be drawn. The main emphasis is the conditions of operation and maintenance of the car by the previous owners. In general, this crossover will prove to be a worthy choice in the used vehicle market.

Case history SsangYong Kyron second generation

What should be a real SUV? In the minds of many, this is still an impressive frame car, of course, with all-wheel drive and a reduction gear, preferably also equipped with differential locks, a snorkel and a winch. However, the latest off-road attributes can be additionally installed on any car - there would be a suitable “carrier”. Take, for example, SsangYong Kyron - why not a full-fledged "rogue"?

It appeared on our market at the beginning of 2006 (it has been produced in South Korea since 2005) - it is as original as other models of this manufacturer. It would seem that you have to be a great original to buy an SUV with such, to put it mildly, an extraordinary design. But apparently there were a lot of them. In any case, the car very quickly became one of the best-selling "Koreans" in Russia. What is so wonderful about it?

Extended Range

Of course, one of the attractive aspects was the price. Few manufacturers could offer a frame SUV of this class for a rather modest amount. A car with a clear conscience can be called universal: it is great for the city and is ready to prove its worth on the roads. On pavement, the Kyron is pleased with good stability and moderate rolls in corners for a car with such a high center of gravity. Comfort is also at an acceptable level: the suspension perfectly fulfills large irregularities, although small ones are still transmitted to the fifth points of riders. Steering precision is not amazing, besides quite "long" (about four turns from lock to lock). But for a frame car, handling can be called satisfactory. The brakes provide the right degree of deceleration to this heavy "iron horse" without any problems.

As for off-road, the car is structurally ready for it. Of course, a real “rogue” would do well to have more ground clearance, and the suspension moves here are not so great. On the other hand, Part Time 4WD all-wheel drive and a lower row allow you not to be afraid of a muddy primer. All the main units are securely hidden behind the frame cross members, so there is nothing to be afraid of when driving on a deep rut. Another thing is the bumpy terrain. Individual obstacles in the form of a mound or stump can easily damage the steering rack or electrical wiring. So let's give a banal advice: if you are going to conquer off-road, do not spare money for full protection of the engine, gearbox and handouts. Factory plastic will save only from random stones.

Expert opinion

Sergei CHERNOGAEV, BLOCK SsangYong Service Center Technician

Kyron is perfect for both typical city dwellers and off-road lovers. Practice has shown that the car is quite reliable. All "childhood diseases" are far behind. The list of works, even for cars that have exchanged the second hundred thousand kilometers, is rather modest, as a rule, there are no expensive operations in it. There are only two engines, but there are no complaints about them. Service intervals of 10 thousand km should not be treated as a means of pumping money - in many respects, it is constant monitoring and timely prevention that make it possible to ensure decent reliability of car parts and components.

Engine and transmission

Recall also that Part Time 4WD does not involve all-wheel drive on hard surfaces. To switch the transmission mode, it is enough to turn the handwheel in the cabin to the desired position - the control is carried out by means of electric drives. Modes do not change immediately - you have to drive some distance. Hence another piece of advice: do not wait until the car sits firmly on its belly. Assess the obstacle and even before it decide what to do: connect the front axle or activate the “lower”.

For the dynamics of the first Kyron, a single power unit was responsible - a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with a Common Rail system. Despite the modest power (140 hp), the motor has an impressive torque of 310 Nm, and in a wide rev range. With reliability, this engine is also all right - after all, a licensed design from MercedesBenz. For a long time, with proper operation, a five-band automatic machine (also of German origin) also serves. True, he earned a lot of criticism for being too thoughtful. The automatic transmission is clearly designed for power smooth shifts, so even in kickdown mode it does not provide the expected acceleration. The manual mode saves a little, but do not use it all the time!

Save diesel!

As many feared, diesel showed its character in the conditions of Russian winters. First of all, it turned out to be quite demanding on the quality of fuel (in fact, this is a well-known specificity of Common Rail). Refueled at the "left" gas station, the car stubbornly refused to start even at -25°C. The owners of diesel Kyrons did not give up and began to actively use additives that make starting easier (some did not spare money on heaters). But then another feature came to light: at low temperatures, problems began with ventilation of crankcase gases. It got to the point that the pressure just knocked out the oil dipstick. Later, the manufacturer dealt with the problem by conducting a company to install a crankcase heating system for free. However, their recirculation valve still periodically fails. The case is recognized as a warranty, and money for repairs is not taken. If the warranty period has already passed, replacing the valve will cost about 9,000 rubles.

A kind of consolation, of course, is efficiency - with a leisurely ride, it is quite possible to meet 10 -11 l / 100 km. It is important that the gas distribution mechanism is driven by a chain. As the servicemen assured us, since the introduction of the Kyron, the replacement of the chain has actually been required on a few Korean SUVs.

In 2007, the car was thoroughly refaced - the rear lights in the form of a shield disappeared, new headlights and a hood appeared, and in general the appearance became more organic. In the same year, a 2.3 liter gasoline engine appeared - again, a time-tested unit from Mercedes-Benz. With him, Kyron became even more accessible - however, mediocre traction on the bottoms made people jealous of those who had diesel versions of the car.

Relatively affordable

The first Kyrons were by no means problem-free. Owners often turned to dealerships, for example, with complaints about knocks in the suspension. The latter most often turned out to be nothing to do with it - the steering rack was loose (changed under warranty). Many were quite rightly confused by some positions in the lists of routine maintenance. So, along with oil and filters, every 20 thousand km it was necessary to change ... the ball bearings of the lower front suspension arms. The feasibility of this operation is really questionable, if only because the supports of cars, the owners of which refused dealer service, “walked” 40–50 thousand km without any problems. Fortunately, over time, everything fell into place: the rails no longer play, the hinges do not change for maintenance. By the way, the maintenance of Kyron with small runs slightly hits the pocket. Ordinary maintenance costs the owner 10,000–11,000 rubles, including consumables. The most expensive, including the replacement of all filters, fluids (including oil in the automatic transmission, transfer case and differentials), is TO-60,000. You will have to leave 25,000–30,000 rubles for it at the dealer station.

Owner's opinion

Irina KALININA Age - 36 years old
SsangYong Kyron, 2.3 l, automatic transmission (2007 onwards)

It so happened that I liked Kyron even in the salon - I sat down and realized that “mine”. The car is a typical average car. The suspension is neither stiff nor soft, the steering wheel is not too sharp, but adequate, the build quality is not premium, but decent… From time to time we disperse boredom with teammates in a nearby quarry - I can say that with a certain driver experience, Kyron is capable of a lot in terms of off-road. The appetites of the engine are rather high, but 92nd gasoline can be used. Maintenance is not cheap, once I had to contact the service with the current oil seal - they replaced it under warranty without any problems.

Hardy "traveler"

The drives are very durable (of course, in the absence of damage to the anthers). The same can be said about cardan shafts - frequent injection of crosspieces (it is provided for every maintenance) minimizes their failure. Automatic transmissions last a long time, even on vehicles that are frequently used off-road. But the clutch of mechanical transmissions often manage to burn out ahead of time: in order to pull a heavy car out of captivity, you have to sweat.

The corrosion resistance of the body is at a height, however, experts advise, if possible, to treat the frame with an anticorrosive agent - it rusts quite actively.

The price of used cars, as you know, "dances" from the cost of new copies. In the showrooms of dealers, the most expensive modifications of Kyron with automatic transmission barely step over 1 million rubles. Not that expensive by today's standards. So buying a "used" Kyron can be profitable. That's just the former owners of these "Koreans" are in no hurry to part with them.

Owner's opinion

Alexander BUDKIN Age - 38 years old
SsangYong Kyron, 2.0 d, manual (2008 onwards)

The Kyron has good potential for light off-road training, but the base variant lacks stars from the sky. The standard clearance, if you put the right protection, will be 180-190 mm, and the springs sag with age.

Fortunately, the car has large enough wheel arches to accommodate "thirty-second" wheels. Such an upgrade gives an increase in ground clearance of about 30 mm, which radically changes the situation. An additional improvement in cross-country ability is the replacement of the suspension (springs and shock absorbers). For example, a Dobinson lift kit will cost about 50,000 rubles to install. Just remember: the suspension lift will not lift the rear axle gearbox (the increase in clearance will only be in front and under the bottom), in addition, stiffer springs will slightly reduce the articulation of the suspension. Well, of course, you need to start with normal protection. It should cover the transfer case and, for diesel vehicles, the intercooler radiator located in the front overhang.

Engine

Of particular importance for SUVs are such engine characteristics as reliability, power and unpretentiousness. It was they who managed to achieve the creators of SsangYong Kyron. The proposed equipment includes equipping the car with 4-stroke engines running on both gasoline and diesel fuel.

Diesel engines with a volume of 2.0 liters have a power equal to 141 hp, gasoline engines are somewhat more powerful - with a volume of 2.3 liters, their maximum is 150 hp. Both engine options perfectly cope with the tasks assigned to them and successfully accelerate an SUV weighing over 1500 kg to the desired speed. The maximum torque, reaching 310 and 214 Nm, respectively, allows the SsangYong Kyron to become even more rapid and assertive.

Thanks to the innovative fuel supply system, Kyron has achieved maximum efficiency. In gasoline engines, electronically controlled distributed fuel injection is carried out, in diesel engines it occurs under pressure.

Transmission

Both engine options can be equipped with 5-speed manual gearboxes or 6-speed T-Tronic automatic transmissions, which provide the ability to shift gears manually. The Part-Time all-wheel drive system allows the driver to independently control the process of disengaging the front axle while driving on paved roads.

Chassis

Kyron SUVs are well suited for driving in various conditions, which is especially true in Russia, where the quality of most of the road surface leaves much to be desired.

Independent spring suspension front and dependent rear suspension, equipped with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars, ensure maximum course stability during driving, even on the most difficult tracks.

16-inch alloy wheels, shod in 235/75R16 rubber, make it easy to overcome even the most severe road bumps and guarantee a comfortable ride in any conditions.

Weight and size indicators

Depending on the configuration, the curb weight of an SUV can vary between 1862-2010 kg. The front axle can withstand loads up to 1230 kg, rear - up to 1351 kg. Available capacities allow Kyron to tow a trailer, the weight of which does not exceed 2300 kg.

Despite the impressive dimensions: length - 4660, width - 1880 and height - 1740 mm, the SUV is distinguished by the correctness and harmony of proportions. The width of the cabin, at shoulder level, is 1506 mm, which guarantees comfortable accommodation for passengers and the convenience of traveling over long distances.

A capacious luggage compartment with a volume of 625 liters allows the transportation of fairly large cargo. In addition, some of them can be moved on the roof, where rails are installed specifically for this, available in most trim levels.

The fuel tank has a capacity of up to 75 liters, which guarantees the possibility of a long journey without frequent stops for refueling. The average fuel consumption declared by the manufacturer is 9.9-14.9 l / 100 km in the city and 6.3-8.7 l / 100 km outside it. Up to a maximum speed of 170 km / h, the SUV can accelerate in 14.8 s.

Depending on the configuration, Ssang Yong Kyron can be equipped with:

  • ESP - system of exchange rate stability;
  • BAS - assistance system during emergency braking;
  • ARP - rollover protection;
  • HDC - hill descent control system;
  • front and side airbags;
  • door lock system;
  • rear obstacle warning system.

The declared fuel consumption for a diesel engine is 8 liters, for a gasoline engine - 12 liters per 100 kilometers. The maximum developed speed is respectively equal to 166 and 170 km/h. Thanks to the wide low-profile rubber of SanYong Kyrona, excellent grip is provided to the wheel with the ground.

The technical and operational characteristics of the Korean crossover only confirm its versatility, excellent handling, unsurpassed power and impeccable functionality. Thanks to guaranteed comfort, efficiency, dynamism and convenience, the SsangYong Kyron is an excellent solution for people who cannot imagine their life without a car.

Is a used SsangYong Kyron a jungle for intrepid explorers or a tourist attraction explored from all sides? The conclusions are up to you ... About five years ago, when the first Kyrons began their life journey in the vastness of Russia, the owners more than once got a reason for frustration, because ... they were congratulated on the purchase of a "Chinese".

And don’t go to a fortuneteller, it was very unpleasant to hear this about a “Korean” who is related to Mercedes itself. We will not particularly expand on the topic of German-Korean friendship, since we could not find information that can be trusted 100 percent. Although SsangYong dealers claim that the main units are licensed from Mercedes-Benz.

At its core, the Kyron is the ideal of the Ouazi. Frame, with a two-stage transfer case, a very extensive power accessories and a comfortable interior. Not to mention the diesel engine and automatic transmission. And the relatively low price of new copies, which was at one time, especially after the model began to be assembled in Russia at the end of 2007. But every coin has two sides, so let's look at its circulation.

As a result of restyling, taillights in the form of knightly shields are a thing of the past.

Ground clearance - 199 mm. Not so bad.

NO ALTERNATIVE
Until 2008, the Kyron was offered with a single engine. It was a 2-litre common rail turbocharged diesel engine that developed a maximum power of 141 hp. with.

For a large four-wheel drive car, the ratio of engine volume to mass, which is a liter per ton, is somehow not enough. I wonder, therefore, or for some other reason, the motor has a number of characteristic sores? First of all, they are associated with fuel equipment, despite the fact that, on the whole, it digests domestic diesel fuel well. Alas, among the ordinary operations is the replacement of very expensive pump injectors. With a run exceeding 100 thousand km, various troubles with the turbine are quite likely. Also, this motor is known for one dirty trick: replacing glow plugs can easily end up completely different from what the mechanic intended - one piece of the candle will remain in his hands, and the other will sadly stick out of the cylinder block. The cause of a burning Check on the dashboard is usually contamination or failure of the EGR system. However, it is realistic to make it to the service under its own power with this breakdown, and issues with it were resolved under the guarantee.

There is also a 2.7 liter turbodiesel (163 hp) in the catalogs, but it was not possible to find this engine on used copies offered for sale.

Along with the updated appearance, which is primarily noticeable in the new optics (front and rear), reshaped headlights and bumpers, the second generation of Kyron has acquired a gasoline engine - the good old "Mersov" 2.3-liter unit in a derated version with a capacity of 150 hp. with. Nothing bad is known about him.

All modes of the all-wheel drive transmission are activated using electric switches

BRAIN OF "AUTOMATIC"
With any engine, a combination of both a 5-speed manual gearbox and an “automatic” is possible, of which there were several versions, including a modern 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting. The mechanical box is a steadfast tin soldier. As for the "automatic machines", their weak link is the control electronics.

All-wheel drive transmission part-time 4WD traditional: rigidly connected front axle, downshift in the transfer case, optional rear limited-slip differential. In terms of reliability, these units still show themselves on the good side, with the exception of one of the versions of the rear gearbox of the first years of production. Seal leaks at low mileage are not typical. However, the transmission cannot be called completely problem-free. There may be malfunctions in the system for connecting the front axle and switching modes of the transfer case. However, usually these issues are resolved with little bloodshed.

There is as much space on the back sofa as most competitors

The size of the trunk and the possibility of transforming the cabin are very worthy

In the steering, fluid leaks from burst pipes or a reservoir sometimes led to pump breakdowns. The steering tips on the cars of the first years of production proved to be not particularly durable, later they were changed to more durable ones.

There are no complaints about the brake system, except for the sour parking brake cable.

HORROR
In an independent front suspension, the most serious problem is the breakdown of the ball joint of the lower arm, and in cars with low mileage of 30-50 thousand km. Surely you have seen a similar tragic picture more than once at the Zhiguli - this is when the front wheel breaks under the body. As the owners said, the tragedy was preceded by a loud creak. When there were enough such cases, the manufacturer began producing a reinforced ball joint.

Buying a used Kyron is better with a gasoline engine

The rear suspension is spring-loaded with a conventional continuous axle beam mounted on trailing arms. The resource of this node is indefinitely large.

Even a schoolboy knows: the more complex the design, the greater the likelihood of failures in its operation. And Kyron is not deprived of any comfort and safety systems. Especially in expensive trim levels. Here is the stabilization system, and rain / light sensors, and a self-dimming rear-view mirror, and electric seats, and heated wiper zones, etc. It is difficult to find systemic faults in all this wealth, but if you try, it will be climate control . Either it causes irritation with the inadequacy of work, or, worse, problems with the control unit.

You may ask: is Kyron really another illustration on the topic “cheap is not good”? No, of course, many owners appear at service stations only for maintenance and do not know any problems. But there are others...

ALEXANDER N.
(SSANGYONG KYRON 2007, 2.0 L, automatic transmission):

- After the Niva, I didn’t want to buy a passenger car. But there was not enough money for something serious, and besides, I really wanted to get a diesel engine so as not to be tied to gas stations. That's how I became the owner of a Kyron with automatic transmission and a 2.0 liter turbodiesel. The argument in favor of the purchase was also a vague relationship with Mercedes. And, of course, a spacious interior and a completely modern list of installed equipment. The wife, seeing a huge trunk, immediately said: this is our car. Because we have two big hunting dogs.

Now the mileage is 95 thousand km, and in general I am satisfied with the car. The efficiency of a diesel captivates, the average consumption is 10 liters, taking into account city driving, but on a long journey, the tank is enough for 850 km. From the unexpected - a coolant leak from under the clamp of the stove pipe and a breakdown of the EGR modulator. The dealer fixed it under warranty. At 60 thousand km I changed ball joints, glow plugs, something was done with the automatic transmission connector, from under which oil flowed. In terms of the cost of scheduled maintenance, where I went to support the warranty, the car turned out to be expensive. During all this time, I left more than 200 thousand rubles at the dealer's checkout, however, this money included oils, filters, pads. Now I'm in the process of changing the car. On the one hand, SsangYong suits me, but on the other hand, I want a more powerful engine and permanent four-wheel drive, since now I often drive with a trailer.

It’s just that somehow it’s not possible to sell Kyron yet ...
