The city crossover Suzuki SX4, once popular in Russia, has been updated and appeared in a slightly different guise - more stylish and modern. "Japanese", which is known in Europe under the name S-Cross, after restyling began to attract even more views than before, because the manufacturer corrected a number of shortcomings of its predecessor and tried to make its "SUV" as attractive as possible. Design

Suzuki's designers who worked on the exterior of the 2017 SX4 obviously had a hard time: after all, turning a monster into a handsome man is not an easy task. How much they coped with their task can only be judged by the owner of the crossover, but one thing is for sure: the design is definitely prettier, although still contradictory. If you close the Suzuki nameplate on a false radiator grille, similar to the grille of the Jimny "mini-tank", you will be able to see some similarities with the cars of the Italian brand Maserati. The SX4 grille is now made in the form of vertical chrome ribs (the old version has horizontal plastic ones), and the huge head optics got a new pattern and LED running lights. In addition, the exterior features upgraded bumpers, a short bonnet, a fairly high roof and large windshield glass.


The side line of the body has practically not undergone changes. On the sides of the car are large informative rear-view mirrors and plastic protective linings, hinting at excellent off-road performance. "Korma" also remained almost untouched: here only a plastic cover on the apron appeared and the taillights were slightly changed, which, by the way, like the headlights, were created using LED technology. Thanks to all the innovations, the restyled SUV as a whole looks more aggressive than its predecessor.

Design

The 2017 SX4 is based on a platform from the pre-reform crossover. The design has not changed: an independent MacPherson spring suspension is installed in the front, and a semi-independent spring suspension at the rear. The ground clearance is at the same level - 180 mm. The AllGrip 4WD all-wheel drive transmission is also familiar from a pre-styling car: it allows you to choose between 4 driving modes - Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock, depending on the road situation. For those who do not need all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive versions are available.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

Russian roads are not scary for the updated SX4 with its 18-centimeter ground clearance and all-wheel drive, but it is not recommended to get carried away with trips on heavy off-road terrain - it should be remembered that this car is not a full-fledged SUV. To conquer the vastness of our country, the novelty also received an additional anti-corrosion treatment of the body. Noise isolation from the "Japanese" is not bad. Of course, the noise from the suspension is sometimes heard in the cabin, the whining of the engine at high revs and the whistling of air in the A-pillars area can be heard from time to time, but the SX4 2017 is definitely quieter than its famous "relative" Vitara.

Comfort

In the course of modernization, the model has improved interior finishing materials - now they are certainly no worse than those of modern Subaru and Nissan cars. The original front panel and climate control buttons are decorated with soft plastic and are pleasant to the touch. The dual-zone climate control is stylish in a European style, but the design of the new seven-inch touchscreen multimedia system, borrowed from Vitara, has a small complaint - dark glossy inserts are used for finishing, on which fingerprints are constantly left. Elegant ventilation deflectors hang over the touchscreen display, giving the center console a harmonious and finished look. The dashboard is simple and straightforward, with pleasant backlighting. The steering wheel is comfortable, multifunctional, and there are no serious complaints about it. The front seats are more or less comfortable, despite the lack of pronounced lateral support, and have adjustment and heating functions. In March 2006, at the Geneva Motor Show, Suzuki unveiled the SX4, the full name of which is Sport Crossover 4x4 Seasons. The Japanese manufacturer made this model in conjunction with the Italian Fiat, whose first SUV will be called the Sedici.

The car is built on an elongated Suzuki Swift platform, but much higher than it. The SX4 crossover received a pronounced wedge-shaped shape due to protruding front and rear bumpers, slanted, widely spaced headlights, and a chopped off rear with side lights.

The Suzuki SX4 is offered in front-wheel drive 2WD and all-wheel drive 4WD versions. The modern all-wheel drive system with electronic control, depending on the road conditions, will choose one of three transmission modes: 4WD Auto, 4WD Lock or 2WD. 2WD stands for front wheel drive. AUTO - automatic connection of the rear ones in case of slipping of the leading ones. Finally, LOCK mode is permanent four-wheel drive. But it only works up to 60 km / h and switches to AUTO when this speed is reached.

At the buyer's choice, the Suzuki SX4 is offered in two trim levels that differ slightly in their appearance: Urban Line and Outdoor Line. The Urban Line with dimensions of 4.10x1.73x1.56 (length, width and height) is focused on the urban lifestyle, representing a front-wheel drive crossover. Anyone who buys a car with the Outdoor Line will, in fact, receive a parquet SUV with a reinforced frame and plug-in all-wheel drive, which can be used at the push of a button. In addition, the off-road version will be 4 cm longer than the civilian, 2.5 cm wider and 5.5 cm higher.

Suzuki SX4 is equipped with three types of engines: two petrol and diesel FIAT production. The basic version of the car was equipped with a 99-horsepower 1.5-liter gasoline unit with a maximum torque of 133 N / m. The top version received a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with 107 hp. and a maximum torque of 145 N / m. Finally, the most powerful in the lineup of power units was the 1.9-liter diesel with 120 hp. and a torque of 280 N / m. At the same time, a particulate filter is offered to customers in a basic version.

While the petrol engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed manual transmission is also offered for the diesel engine. However, a 1.6-speed front-wheel drive vehicle can be fitted with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Suzuki SX4 inherited the suspension from Swift (except that its elements were strengthened), received an equally torsionally rigid body and a wide track.

The basic equipment of the SX4 is generous. It includes 6 airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution EBD, power windows and heated mirrors, air conditioning, CD radio and fog lights. ESP is only offered as an option for the SX4. The all-wheel drive version is distinguished by black linings with a wheel arch changer, moldings, roof rails, 16-inch wheels and a ground clearance of 190 mm. The front wheel drive is equipped with an automatic transmission, and its ground clearance is reduced to 165 (with 15-inch wheels) or 175 mm.

A similar crossover under the Fiat brand will be produced on the basis of the Suzuki SX4. The cars are almost identical from a technical point of view, but have different body designs and trims. Both cars are assembled at the Suzuki Magyar Rt. in Hungarian Esztergum.

In 2007, a sedan appeared, created specifically for use in a limited urban space. Its equipment is much the same as that of the SX4 crossover.

In 2010, the Suzuki SX4 underwent a slight restyling, but from a technical point of view, almost nothing has changed. Key changes include the design of the front bumper and grille with a stylish large mesh pattern. New stylish 16-inch alloy wheels complete the picture.

The salon is finished with new materials. The soundproofing of the engine compartment and transmission has been improved. Inside, the first thing that catches the eye is the new instrument panel. Then you notice another, more convenient and "expensive" climate control unit, which has got a display. And the center console is crowned with an additional speaker of the top audio system.

The 1.6-liter petrol unit received 5 additional "horses" and the same number of newton meters - now it produces 112 hp. and 150 Nm. In addition, the ignition system has been changed - there are now four ignition coils instead of two earlier. In our market, Suzuki SX4 is offered only with this engine. However, in the European market, this inline "four" produces 120 forces and 156 "newtons". The motor is paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. A two-liter 135-horsepower turbodiesel with 320 Nm of torque is also available for the European market. Such a motor is offered exclusively with a 6-speed "mechanics".

Petrol models are available in SZ3 or SZ4 2WD (front-wheel drive) or 4x4 SZ5 with non-permanent / automatic all-wheel drive. Previously, the all-wheel drive version came only with a manual transmission - after restyling, they began to offer an automatic transmission for it.

Remarkable is the fact that the SX4 is assembled in Japan and Hungary. The differences between these versions come down to small things. The “Hungarian” rear seat back folds in a ratio of 60:40, while the “Japanese” can only fold it entirely. The ground clearance of the all-wheel drive SX4 of the Hungarian assembly is 10 mm higher and is 185 mm (for the Japanese one - 175 mm). The "European" has a different front bumper and a set of color options, two-tone upholstery, a battery with a capacity increased to 60 Ah, an antenna that has moved from the rear of the body to the front edge of the windshield, orange color of the lower section of the rear lights (instead of white), square shape of cup holders etc.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning, electric drive and heated mirrors, 4 power windows, CD / MP3 radio, heated seats, ABS and front airbags.

In addition to the hatchback, the Suzuki SX4 Sedan has also been updated. The changes are similar to the five-door car - a more powerful and high-torque engine (112 hp, 150 Nm), a different climate control unit and an additional speaker in the interior, as well as new 16-inch wheels, a radiator grill and an aerodynamic body kit (in the version Aero).

In 2013, at the Geneva Motor Show, the premiere of the new generation compact crossover Suzuki SX4 took place. The car is a production version of the S-Cross concept, first unveiled in September 2012 at the Paris Motor Show. It is noteworthy that the S-Cross prefix was entrenched in European markets, in Russia the crossover was dubbed the Suzuki New SX4. At the same time, the first generation crossovers will remain on sale until 2015, but under the name Suzuki SX4 Classic.

At the heart of the car is a radically redesigned platform of its predecessor, from which no more than 5% of old parts remain. Overall length of the New SX4 is 4300 millimeters (150 millimeters more than its predecessor), width - 1765 millimeters (+10 millimeters), height - 1575 millimeters (+10 millimeters), and the wheelbase is 2600 millimeters (+100 millimeters) ... But at the same time, compared to the previous SX4, the new body is 60 kg lighter, thanks to the wider use of high-strength steels, from which the struts and sills of the body, as well as the side members and part of the internal amplifiers are made. The curb weight of the car in the basic equipment is 1085 kg, in the top versions it increases to 1190 kg.

The exterior has become more stylish, dynamic and modern. With a sporty touch, well thought-out lines and aerodynamic contours. By the way, the drag coefficient is 0.33. The ground clearance of the crossover is 180 mm for cars with 16-inch wheels. The top versions, decorated with alloy wheels, have an inch more, the distance to the ground is less than five millimeters. The European Suzuki SX4 S-cross has a ground clearance of 170 and 165 mm, respectively.

The cabin is simple, but high quality. Engineers and designers of the Japanese automaker tried to remove all unnecessary and make the front panel as ergonomic as possible in the spirit of modernity. All keys, including power window controls, are backlit. The steering column is adjustable in two directions. Moreover, in wide ranges. Information from an unpretentious instrument cluster is read without problems. The increase in length in the front of the cabin is only six millimeters, but at the rear is 44 mm, of which 39 mm is how far the rear sofa cushion has moved away from the backs of the front seats. The boot volume has increased by 160 liters to 430 liters. With the rear row of seats assembled, the useful volume will increase to 1269 liters. On the Russian market, the car is offered in three configuration options (GL, GLX and GLX +). Standard equipment includes: 16-inch wheels, roof rails, full power accessories, air conditioning, standard audio system with 4 speakers, fabric interior, halogen optics, power mirrors, heated front seats, on-board computer, cruise control and a full range of security systems, including ESP and seven airbags. Separate climate control is available starting with the intermediate GLX trim level, while a navigation system and a two-piece panoramic sunroof measuring 800 x 560 mm are available in the most expensive GLX +.

The crossover is offered with one of two 1.6-liter engines to choose from - gasoline and diesel. The gasoline engine can be paired with a five-speed "mechanics", and the diesel - with a six-speed. For both engines, a CTV variator is also available, which has a manual seven-speed mode with a steering column switch. The manufacturer claims that the New SX4's emissions are among the lowest in the class. The front-wheel drive crossover with a diesel engine emits 110 grams of CO2 per kilometer, and the top-end petrol versions - 136 grams per kilometer.

Only the petrol "four" is available for the Russian market. By the way, it has been thoroughly modernized. She has a lightweight crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons. The exhaust manifold has become lighter by 1.2 kg, and from the attachments - the radiator and exhaust system. In order to reduce fuel consumption, the stiffness of the valve drive springs has been reduced, and the oil pump has new, narrower bearings. The updated engine complies with Euro-6 standards.

When completing a gasoline engine with a manual transmission, the maximum speed of the car is about 180 km / h, and the starting acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h is about 11.0 seconds. In terms of efficiency, the gasoline engine with "mechanics" is quite good: on the highway, the consumption of AI-95 gasoline is about 5.0 liters, within the city the consumption increases to 6.8 liters, but in mixed mode the crossover will need about 5.6 liters. Such a noticeable decrease in the level of fuel consumption was achieved not only due to the modernization of the engine, but also due to the readjustment of the manual transmission in which the gear ratios of 3, 4 and 5 stages were lengthened.

The performance of a gasoline engine paired with a variator is somewhat more modest. The upper speed limit is declared at around 170-175 km / h (165 km / h for 4WD). The starting acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h is about 12.4 seconds. Fuel consumption on the highway is 5.0 liters per 100 km, within the city - 6.9 liters, and in mixed mode - 5.7 liters. For all-wheel drive versions of the crossover with any type of gearbox, an additional "increase" in fuel consumption will be approximately 0.3 liters for every 100 km.

Buyers will be able to purchase both a front- and four-wheel drive vehicle. Moreover, the latter is equipped with new generation ALLGRIP all-wheel drive technology with four operating modes. Auto mode prioritizes fuel economy under normal driving conditions by engaging the rear wheels when slipping. In Sport, a dedicated engine management program pumps more fuel into the cylinders, sharpens accelerator responses, and alters the behavior of the variator, ESP and power steering. Sport mode can be activated when driving on winding roads with a lot of bends. Snow mode is designed for snowy, unpaved and slippery surfaces, while Lock (Lock) activates the differential lock and is necessary to rescue a car stuck in snow, mud or sand.

Suspension: an independent structure based on McPherson struts in the front, a semi-independent suspension with a torsion beam at the rear. Moreover, regardless of the type of drive. The differences between the 4x4 versions are only in different settings of the elastic elements and in a separate subframe on which the rear differential is mounted. Outwardly, the differences between the restyled Suzuki SX4 and the pre-reform car are obvious, or rather, on the "face": the front SUV tried on a huge "toothy" radiator grille, slightly frowned optics and a raised bumper, which made it look more attractive and solid. From other angles, the car practically did not change, except that it received new lights with diode sections.

The outer dimensions of the 2017 Suzuki SX4 are 4300 mm in length, 1585 mm in height and 1785 mm in width. The distance between the wheelsets at the five-door is 2,600 mm, and the clearance under the "belly" is 180 mm. The curb weight of the car varies from 1085 to 1230 kg.

The interior of the crossover has undergone less significant changes, but still acquired a more civilized look due to the new multimedia complex with a 7-inch touch screen and has become better and more expensively finished.

The rest of the car has retained all the advantages of its predecessor - an informative and laconic "toolbox", a stylish three-spoke steering wheel and a five-seat layout with comfortable seats.

The trunk of the updated version of the Suzuki SX4 has the correct configuration and holds from 440 to 875 liters, depending on the position of the rear sofa, the backs of which fit into a flat floor. In the niche under the raised floor there is a compact "spare wheel".

For the first time, the Suzuki SX4 model was shown in 2006 during the annual Geneva Motor Show. The rear of the updated Suzuki SX4 has got massive and slightly slanted side lights, a monumental rear bumper and a large tailgate, in the upper part of which there is a small spoiler.

The vehicle's ground clearance is 180 mm, which is more than enough not only for storming curbs, but also for confident driving over rough terrain.

The interior of the car has changed no less than its appearance. Japanese designers did their best to get rid of all unnecessary elements, thanks to which we got a laconic, ergonomic and modern front panel.

Of course, it is impossible to call the design of the front dashboard a reference, but everything is done at a qualitatively new level. The quality of the finishing materials is slightly above average, but the excellent fit of the parts more than eliminates this small drawback of the cabin. The upper part of the dashboard, door pockets and almost all visible parts of the cabin are made of soft plastic.

In front of the driver is a completely new multifunctional steering wheel, as well as a well-read instrument panel, represented by two large tachometer and speedometer dials, between which there is a small color display of the on-board computer. Air deflectors, the central part of the steering wheel and dashboard acquired a stylish edging for aluminum, which somewhat dilutes the interior of the car, preferably made in dark colors. In the central part of the front panel there is a small multimedia control unit with a small color display, and in the lower part there is a very stylish climate control unit.


The front seats have an anatomical shape, and are also distinguished by the presence of a pronounced lateral support and a heating system, which is especially important for the Russian consumer.


The second row seats are designed for three adult riders, but the presence of not the widest cabin and a high transmission tunnel allow only two passengers to sit with maximum comfort.

Note that along with the increase in the wheelbase, there is noticeably more space for both first and second row passengers.


The volume of the trunk in the standard state is equal to 440 liters, and if you fold the backs of the second row of seats, then its volume can be increased to 1269 liters, subject to loading "to the ceiling". In the underground luggage compartment there is a special repair kit and a spare wheel.

In general, the interior of the car has become more strict and of high quality, while, as before, the driver's workplace is distinguished by a high level of ergonomics - all buttons and levers are located where you would expect to see them.

2014 Suzuki SX4 Specifications


In the European market, the Suzuki SX4 (2014) is offered with two types of power units:
  1. The first is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 117 hp. and using advanced multi-point fuel injection. This engine will be aggregated with either a 5-level manual transmission, or a stepless "robot" with manual gear selection. Acceleration from 0 to 100 is 11 seconds (for mechanics) and 12.4 seconds (for CVT), and the maximum declared speed will vary within 165-180 km / h. The fuel consumption of a gasoline truck in the combined cycle is 5.6 liters, which is a very good indicator of economy for this class of car.
  2. The second is a 1.6-liter diesel with 118 hp. Such an engine will be equipped with either an automatic transmission or a 6-level "mechanics".
Unfortunately, so far only a gasoline engine is offered in Russia, however, in the future, a diesel engine may appear, which will happen as soon as the Japanese make sure that the domestic diesel fuel is of sufficient quality.

The choice of buyers will be available both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive modifications of the crossover, and the all-wheel drive version will be equipped with a new 4WD AllGrip transmission, which has several operating modes. As before, an independent suspension on MacPherson struts is installed in front, and a semi-independent suspension with a beam on torsion bars is installed behind. All 4 wheels received disc-type brakes, and the steering is supplemented by an electric booster.

In general, the car's suspension is moderately comfortable not only for city driving, but also for driving on light off-road. It adequately fulfills both medium and large irregularities, without annoying the driver and passengers with vertical swing.

The new generation Suzuki SX4 boasts a very serious safety package, which includes:

  • Belts with pretensioners and ISOFIX anchorages for securing child seats.
In addition, the manufacturer carried out significant work to increase the rigidity of the crossover body, where the door zones were strengthened, and "programmable" deformation zones of the front of the car were added in a head-on collision.
