Considering the technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H, it is necessary to take into account the variations: more than 5 different engine sizes, a sedan, a station wagon, two hatchbacks and a convertible, 3 configurations.

Opel Astra H - specifications for the whole family

The technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H cannot be described in one paragraph. Because the Astra H is not just one car, it is a whole family. A range of at least 5 vehicles. At first glance, they are identical, but different in nature, in their driving characteristics, appearance and size.

Astra H was launched in 2004. In 2007, it underwent a slight restyling. The technical characteristics of the engines have undergone changes. They have become more powerful, economical and environmentally friendly. The front bumper, mirrors, and some interior trim elements have also changed. Astra H is still produced in the station wagon, sedan or 5-door hatchback, but under the name Astra Family.

Body and chassis Opel Astra H

The body lineup has a rich selection: sedan, station wagon, 5-door hatchback, 3-door GTC hatchback, and Astra TwinTop coupe-convertible. The technical characteristics of the various body types of the Opel Astra are similar, but there are differences. The wheelbase of the sedan and station wagon is 2703 mm, and the wheelbase of the hatchback and convertible is 2614 mm.

The turning radius for all is approximately the same, about 11 m. The volume of the trunk of the sedan and the station wagon is surprisingly the same, 490 liters each. The 5-door hatchback has 375 liters, the GTC has 340 liters and the convertible has 205 liters. The volume of the gas tank on all Opel Astra is 52 liters.

The front suspension in the Astra H is lever-spring MacPherson, with telescopic shock absorbers, coil springs, and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension in Opel Astra cars is semi-dependent, lever-spring with trailing arms.

Options Opel Astra H

Astra H has 3 trim levels: Essentia, Enjoy, Cosmo. The simplest - Essentia, includes a leather steering wheel, air conditioning, heated front seats. Enjoy added climate control, light sensor. Cosmo - the maximum configuration, boasts 16-inch alloy wheels, rain sensor, seats with eco-leather inserts. There is also a panoramic roof option for the 3-door hatchback. The OPC trim, available only for the GTC hatchback, comes with sport aids, 17-inch wheels and Recaro seats. Also in station wagons and sedans there are additional cigarette lighters in the trunk for installing the refrigerator in the trunk. In 2008, there was an opportunity to purchase a version of the Astra H Limousine, but only on order, from Germany.

Technical equipment and characteristics of the Opel Astra H

The least powerful, but at the same time the most reliable engine offered for the third Astra is a four-cylinder "six" with a volume of 1.4 liters. The power of the sixteen-valve 1.4 Opel is 90 horsepower.

In the range of Astra H engines, there are two petrol 1.6. The first produces 105hp, while the power of the second is 10 horsepower higher - 115 horsepower. On 1.6 engines, with a mileage exceeding 40,000 km, vibration was noticed at rpm in the range of 2,500 - 3,000, as a rule, this unpleasant moment is associated with the variable valve timing system.

The 1.8L engines deliver 125 and 140 horsepower. Power plants with a volume of 1.8 liters with a mileage of 70,000 suffer from camshaft oil seal leakage, and the front crankshaft oil seal can also leak. Also, on engines with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, with runs over 50,000 km, the camshaft gear can jam. As a rule, before this, when the engine is started, a grinding noise is heard for 2-3 seconds.

The most powerful gasoline units are 2.0l turbocharged engines. Their power: 170, 200 and 240 hp.

Turbodiesel engines were installed on the Opel Astra H 2004 - 2010: 1.3 - 90hp, 1.7 - 80 and 100hp, 1.9 - 120 and 150hp. According to experts, it is better to buy a gasoline Astra, since diesel engines require even more attention than Opel gasoline units. If the power on the diesel Astra dropped significantly and the car began to smoke, perhaps the reason is the soot filter, which is already asking for replacement. A dual-mass flywheel is installed on the diesel versions of the Astra, over time it becomes the cause of knocks and vibrations, as a rule, replacement will be required when the mileage is 150,000 km.

On modifications of the Astra with engines 1.4 and 1.6 liters, drum brakes are installed at the rear, on more powerful Astra, there are disc brakes on all wheels. Astra's front pads are enough for 30,000 km, rear - drum pads for 60,000 km. The Astra brake discs themselves serve 60,000 km.

It is best to buy a used aster with a manual transmission. The mechanics from repair to repair will last at least 100,000 km, and sometimes 200,000 km. The reverse gear of the Astra mechanical box is not equipped with a synchronizer, which is why immediately after stopping the rear speed on the Astra does not turn on well.

The four-speed automatic Astra is equipped with a winter mode, but if you do not use it for a long time, one day the activation button may simply not work. Jerks when switching from first to second on this box are considered the norm, but jerks when switching from second to third indicate a malfunction. In some cases, it will be necessary to replace the valve body for repair. A gearbox cooling radiator is built into the Astra automatic transmission case, it happens that the coolant flows and mixes with the oil, which also does not increase the unit's resource.

A robotic gearbox with a mileage of 100,000 km will ask for a fork replacement. Usually, before the bulkhead, the Easy Tronic robot serves more than 100,000 km, so as not to shorten the service life of the robotic gearbox with a short stop, engage in neutral gear.

The Aster's suspension is pretty hardy. According to the owners, it is harsh. Most often, the stabilizer struts and tie rods are changed in the Opel chassis, this operation is carried out with a mileage of 50,000 km.

Price

You can buy Opel Astra H 2004 - 2010 in almost any city of the CIS. The price of the 2007 Opel Astra H is $ 11,000 - $ 12,000. Astra is a good option for a person living in a city, a moderately fast car with a non-gluttonous engine and a spacious interior, besides, Astra has a good level of safety.

Figures and facts

According to statistics, Opel Astra H belongs to the cars that lose in price the least over time. Plus the relative low cost of maintenance. And adding to this the technical characteristics and a large selection, we can conclude that the Opel Astra definitely deserves attention.

Opel Astra H (Opel Astra 3)- the third generation of a German company passenger car. The Astra has always been a popular model, but this generation has especially delighted dealers with sales volumes. Recently, the number of used Opel Astra H has increased dramatically, of course, this can be attributed to the natural renewal of cars, since most motorists do this every 4-5 years. But it may be that the owners begin to get rid of their cars after a run of 100-150 thousand km. . And, here's what the real reason is, and what shortcomings are inherent in this car, now let's try to figure it out.

A bit of history:

The debut of the Opel Astra H took place in 2003 at the Frankfurt auto show, and in March 2004 the serial assembly of the car began. In the markets of different countries, it was also produced under the names Chevrolet Astra, Chevrolet Vectra, Holden Astra, Saturn Astra and Vauxhall Astra. The novelty was intended to replace the popular at that time, Opel Vectra B. In total, for the assault on the segment " C"Or, as they say, golf class, four bodies were produced based on the" Delta "platform developed by General Motors - three and five-door hatchback, sedan, station wagon and coupe.

For most of the CIS markets, the car was assembled at the Russian Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, and since 2008 - at the General Motors car assembly plant in Shushary near St. Petersburg. The design of the car was developed by the director of the German design studio Opel in Rüsselsheim - Friedhel Engler, who is also the creator of the Opel Korsa. The production of the model stopped in 2009, this model was replaced by the Opel Astra J, but, even after the release of the new model, the popularity of the Opel Astra H did not diminish at all, therefore, it was decided to extend the production of this model (the car was produced until 2014 under the name Astra Family).

Weaknesses and disadvantages of the Opel Astra H with mileage

Unlike most competitors, the Opel Astra H has a fairly high-quality paintwork. The exceptions were cars made in Poland, on such copies the paint swelled and fell off in pieces, fortunately, the manufacturer eliminated all defects under warranty. The body is completely galvanized, thanks to this, it resists the onslaught of redhead disease well, but, nevertheless, over time, from the effects of reagents that are generously sprinkled on our roads, you can find foci of corrosion on the tailgate, door edges and sills. On cars of the first years of production, the headlights become cloudy, and the rear door handles can also jam.

Engines

A large number of power units were available for the Opel Astra H: petrol - 1.4 (90 HP), 1.6 (105 HP), 1.8 (125 HP) and 2.0 (170, 200 HP). ; diesel - 1.3 (90 HP), 1.7 (100 HP), 1.9 (120 and 150 HP). All motors are quite reliable, but after 100,000 km they require little investment. The 1.4 engine proved to be the most problem-free, but, due to insufficient power, this power unit is not in demand among motorists. In the more common engines 1.6 and 1.8, in our operating conditions, the catalyst and the EGR valve are very quickly contaminated. The problem is especially relevant for cars operated in a metropolis. One of the most serious breakdowns that many Astra owners have had to face is jammed intake and exhaust camshaft gears. This trouble occurs at a mileage of 60-80 thousand km, and after repairs there are no guarantees that it will not happen again. Signs of a problem are: increased noise when starting the engine (grinding, rumble) and deterioration in dynamics.

Also, the main disadvantages include a small resource of the rear engine mount (it becomes unusable every 60-70 thousand km). Often, the owners are faced with a malfunction of the ignition system module, the cause of the ailment lies in poor contact in the connectors and untimely replacement of spark plugs. Closer to 250,000 km, a membrane rupture occurs, which is responsible for the recirculation of crankcase gases, located in the valve cover. The problem can be determined by the unstable operation of the engine, as well as by blue smoke from the exhaust system. Very often, the services condemn the engine to overhaul, however, the problem is solved by replacing the valve cover. The most powerful power unit, in most cases, does not require repair up to 150,000 km, but minor troubles such as fogging of the cylinder head and oil leaks through the crankshaft oil seal , can occur even after 20,000 km.

All motors are equipped with a timing belt drive, according to the regulations, belt replacement is prescribed every 90,000 km, but there have been cases of a belt breaking after 50,000 km, therefore, it is better not to risk it and change the belt every 60,000 km. The pump usually changes at every second belt change. Diesel engines are reliable, but demanding on the quality of fuel and lubricants. Of the shortcomings of diesel engines, it is necessary to note the weak fuel equipment and the small resource of the particulate filter (replacement every 50-60 thousand km). If the filter is clogged, traction disappears, and fumes come out of the exhaust system, like from an old KAMAZ. Also, due to design errors, the engine control unit suffers (exposed to moisture and dirt). One of the most costly problems faced by the owners of diesel cars is the failure of a two-mass flywheel (resource 100-150 thousand km). A knock and vibration when changing gears will serve as signals of a problem; it is worth noting that the gears are switched on clearly.

Transmission

Opel Astra H buyers were offered three types of gearboxes to choose from - mechanical, automatic and Easytronic robot. The mechanics are considered the most problem-free, even the clutch kit serves 100-120 thousand km. The only thing for which the manual transmission can be blamed is for the lack of synchronizers, because of this, the reverse gear does not always turn on correctly. Among the shortcomings faced by the owners of cars with mechanics, it is possible to single out a leak in the rear oil seal of the crankshaft and a small resource of the secondary shaft bearing (60-80 thousand km). On some copies, after 70,000 km, cracks appear along the seam of the box. If, when switching from first to third gear, a shock is felt, it is better to contact the service, but, in most cases, to eliminate the disease, it is enough to change the oil.

The automatic transmission is famous for jerking and jerking during gear changes, but they are not afraid of this, since this is not a breakdown, but a feature of the transmission. The most common automatic transmission problem is a leakage of coolant into the hydraulic circuit of the box, after which a complete failure of the unit occurs. If the auto-neutral fails, most likely, cleaning the jet in the box will help. When going into emergency mode, the box only works in fourth gear. The robotic transmission is very capricious and requires attention every 15,000 km (maintenance and clutch adjustment).

During operation, the driven disk is erased, while the point of contact with the basket is displaced, but the controller responsible for the fuel supply does not know about the shift of the point of contact and supplies the wrong amount of fuel. As a result, this leads to incorrect operation of the box and premature wear of the clutch. It is worth noting that even with timely maintenance of the robotic transmission, its resource in rare cases exceeds 150,000 km. Before buying a car with a robot, be sure to ride it, if there are strong jerks when switching, it is better to refuse to buy such a car.

The reliability of the Opel Astra H chassis

Simplicity is a guarantee of reliability, it is according to this principle that the suspension of this model was developed, a semi-independent torsion beam is installed at the back, and MacPherson strut at the front. If we talk about driving characteristics, then the suspension copes well with the realities of our roads, but it is distinguished by increased noise. If you do not take into account the struts and stabilizer bushings (resource 20-40 thousand km), thrust bearings are considered the weakest point of the chassis, and steering rods, their resource, in most cases, does not exceed 60,000 km. Wheel bearings (the ABS sensor becomes unusable after 50,000 km) and ball bearings at average loads take care of 50-70 thousand km. The rest of the suspension elements serve 100,000 km or more.

The weakest point in the steering mechanism is the steering rack, as a rule, it starts knocking after 100,000 km of run, there may also be a fluid leak, this, over time, can lead to the destruction of the unit, but if you notice and eliminate the problem in time, complications can be to avoid. There are no complaints about the reliability of the braking system, the only thing the owners complain about is the small resource of the front pads (30,000 km.).

Salon

The salon of the Opel Astra H is made in a strict style, but, at the same time, the manufacturer used sufficiently high-quality materials, but, despite this, almost every car has crickets in the cabin. The car cannot boast of the reliability of the electrical equipment of the passenger compartment. The main problem in electronics is the incorrect operation of the buttons on the steering wheel and steering column control levers, the reason is a faulty steering column SIM module. There are also claims to the climate control system, or rather to the air recirculation damper. The problem manifests itself with a characteristic crash from under the console.

Outcome:

In terms of reliability Opel AstraH does not differ much from its competitors, but due to the low cost of maintenance and repair, this car is one of the most interesting representatives of the golf class in the secondary market.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

Best regards, editors AvtoAvenu

However, in Europe this did not particularly bother the company, there were completely different tasks: with all the popularity of the brand, there were problems with the profitability of production, GM managed to make the brand unprofitable for many years. But “unprofitableness” and loss - things in the modern world are very different, in any case, the American concern has been responding to all offers to sell the European branch with refusals since 2008, and given the complex ownership system of suppliers and the concern ... In general, not only AVTOVAZ has similar "nuances".

Why buy an Astra H?

But back to our "rams". The unimportant situation with Opel sales in Russia was changed by the release of Astra H in 2004. The car replaced the well-deserved Astra G, which, like all its ancestors before that, was practical, comfortable and ... extremely boring.

In the photo: Opel Astra Hatchback (H) "2004–07

In the new generation, the car has been transformed in accordance with the latest requirements for C-class cars: it has become much more voluminous inside, more comfortable and at the same time more economical. At the same time, it remains quite simple in design - no multi-link, only MacPherson strut in front and a twisted beam in the back, only in-line motors. Of course, it met all the latest European safety requirements.

In fact, the car has occupied a niche in which its "relative" - Opel Vectra B recently played, and which was freed up when it was released very large and solid. Of course, the price of the Astra corresponded more to the class than to the status, and it blended well with the new realities of the Russian market of new cars, where imported cars were replaced by domestic assembly, and the import of three-year-olds was fueled only by the extremely low price per dollar until 2008.

And the sales were good! Astra remained in the top three sales leaders in its class, two to three times behind the Ford Focus in sales, but at the same time steadily outstripping all competitors from Japan and Korea. And as the "Czechs" lagged behind at least two times.

The reason for this growth is not only in the competent pricing policy and overcomplication of cars of this class, but also in the excellent appearance and very decent driving characteristics. Opel cars were gaining respectability in front of our eyes, besides, it was clearly noticeable that corrosion was now the lot of competitors, and the Astra, even with problems with painting, did not rust for a very long time, so the proverb "every car becomes Opel over time" gradually lost all relevance.

In addition, the Astra became one of the cars that went through localization, they began to be assembled at a new plant near St. Petersburg. Little by little, a new circle of buyers was formed who appreciated the good ground clearance and simplicity of the suspensions, the aggressive European design and ... the power of the engines! After all, Astra for a very reasonable amount was offered with a 1.8 140 hp engine, and fans "hotter" could choose from a couple of options for a supercharged two-liter engine.

The minuses of the model were not a secret either: minor troubles with quality, outdated automatic transmission (albeit reliable), frankly unsuccessful "robot" Easytronic, stiff suspension and not particularly loyal warranty policy of the company. In general, there was not enough to fight.

In 2009, a new Astra J was released (and a little earlier - and its platform-based one), which greatly complicated the marketing of the company, but even against this background, the car remained one of the most popular cars in its class. Astra H was released right up to 2015, but most of the sales are still a period from 2006 to 2012.

In 2015, when GM curtailed its presence in Russia, the new Astra confidently set the tone in sales. And most of the cars on the Russian market are already close to their tenth anniversary. What owners of such cars will face, and how economical solutions from GM are doing now, read below.

Body

The aggressive design of the car looks quite relevant now. Except that the paint fades over time, because the quality of the body painting of Opel is difficult to call outstanding - the layer is thin, easily scratched. In addition, both German and St. Petersburg cars at a certain stage suffered from "peeling" of the paint layer due to the unsuccessful technology of applying the primer, and the defect was very similar, which indicates a puncture of a purely technological plan. The pluses of the paintwork include at least elasticity - with "soft" blows, the paint does not fly around.

Do not worry, even with all the difficulties with the paintwork, the machine is not prone to corrosion. With the metal processing, they were pretty "outdone": small pits of corrosion begin to appear on the surface without paint only after a year, but most of the owners eliminated defects under warranty or simply painted the car on their own. Extensive corrosion damage is usually the result of poor quality repairs or poor operation.

Front bumper

price for original

However, there is still a chance that if the car was produced in 2008, then it spent a lot of time under the snow at the Rzhevka airfield near St. Petersburg, where the plant sent almost all produced cars. Some have given this name two or more times before being acquired. Personal experience shows that, first of all, such wintering periods affect the condition of the car doors, they are usually not subject to this scourge, but if the corrosion of the "five-year plans" was noticeable, then most likely the biography of the car has a solid pause between the year of production of the main units, actually produced by VIN and date of first registration. Most likely, the negative effect of such wintering will manifest itself in something else, but so far, due to a small age, other consequences are invisible.

But earlier cars are usually still very far from all such difficulties. Especially if, five to eight years after the release, someone guessed to re-anti-corrosion treatment of the bottom and internal cavities.

"Standard" places of corrosion, like the joints at bumpers and arches, are well protected here. Is that the "shelf" of the rear arch, upon close inspection, already shows traces of future problems: the sealant swells. This means that in another five or six years, the corrosion will be noticeable from the outside, and the arch can be repaired overhaul only by welding the repair insert.

Now the main places of control are the lower seam of the sill, sandblasting points, attachment points of the subframe and the upper part of the sill, which is banally stepped on, and the places of friction of the door seal on the C-pillar. Corrosion also feels at ease on the leading edge of the hood and roof: they are clearly less protected than the rest of the car. The rear doors and trunk lid are also at risk, on the oldest cars they can already have corrosion along the lower edge, but most cars have no problem with this.

In the photo: Opel Astra Sedan (H) "2007-14

In general, against the background of competitors, Astra is an almost ideally protected car from corrosion, even though it has practically no plastic protection panels.

As with all cars of this class, in the event of an accident, the quality of the repair leaves much to be desired. Comprehensive repair rates simply do not leave much choice, so a lot of cars with layers of putty on the fenders and doors, with non-original body elements and poor build and paint quality are waiting for their buyer. An extra layer of paint will not hurt, but everything else is best avoided, at least because the machine loses its excellent anti-corrosion resistance.

In the photo: Opel Astra OPC (H) "2005-10

However, the body is threatened not only by corrosion. The door hinges of the Astra are not bad, but the driver's door sags over time, with runs "over 150" adjustment will be required, which is not so easy to do. The tailgate on hatchbacks loses its tightness and begins to knock, and with less mileage, it is necessary to adjust the lock in time and change the seals. By the way, the seal on the side doors is also not eternal, and if it is "disheveled" in the lower part, and its tubular part is opened, then the doors will close without a noble sound, and on the go, extra noise is provided.

Windshield

price for original

Chrome linings peel off quickly and many simply paint them "in the mat", because restoration is usually not cheap (keep this in mind when bargaining). The windshield here is quite strong, it is almost not afraid of being hit by stones, but over time it gets overwritten - on early cars, the windshields were changed under warranty, do not be surprised if the year does not coincide.

But the headlights are rather weak, the very soft material of the cap leaves practically no chance for a long service: five to six years - and the headlight is worn out. But the luminosity drops due to the banal burnout of the reflector, and both xenon and lenticular halogen hold about the same, five to six years of city driving. You can replace the headlight, or you can restore it, several technologies are available.

Headlight AFL

price for original

This is especially "nice" for those who have adaptive optics with AFL. The Astra was one of the first cars in the class with such a system, and the headlights are incredibly expensive for it. If we take the price of a new original, then, roughly speaking, the price of a car is four or five original headlights! Fortunately, this is not - the headlights are not removed from the Astra.

Fog lights crack easily, and the reason is their illiterate use as additional lighting, which is categorically unacceptable - they blind drivers, especially in the rain.

Sagging bumpers are a well-known problem, and it is not at all necessary to fasten them to screws, new fastening strips are available. The weak plastic of the lockers is a small problem, the price of non-original ones is about a couple of thousand rubles.

In the photo: Opel Astra Hatchback (H) "2007-14

And, of course, the "lip" dearly beloved by Astrovodmers - the rubber lower part of the bumper. If you saw an Astra with a dangling rubber band on the street, let the driver know and save him from another unpleasant waste. The "lip" is low, and it is often ripped off when inaccurate parking or during the winter season. If you remove it for the winter, then chances are good that in the summer you will have to put it on the screws - delicate fasteners are also damaged. In general, a whole "lip" and fasteners are a sign of a good attitude towards the car or a recent body repair.

Salon

The interior of the Opel of this period is traditionally gloomy, but the materials are surprisingly good. Strict lines and other "ordnung" coexist with a very high quality of elaboration of all elements, squeaks are rare, the plastic is very wear-resistant, except that the steering column levers and buttons of the climate control system will have visible signs of wear. Moreover, the gearshift lever cover.

1 / 3

2 / 3

3 / 3

The quality of the all-fabric interior is excellent, but if the equipment of the car is better, and there are already seats with combined upholstery, then tearing of the seams and abrasions on the "eco-leather" is a common thing, especially with runs over hundreds of thousands of kilometers. In addition, light-colored fabrics are excellent at absorbing dirt. But if there is a sports salon, everything is just fine - both the material and the performance do not fail, and the leather will most likely be natural.

The steering wheel and door handles peel off at runs for two hundred thousand kilometers, the original rugs "end" at 150, which can serve as an indirect indicator of the mileage (unfortunately, it curls easily here).

1 / 3

2 / 3

3 / 3

Here the climate control system fails, regardless of the mileage. Moreover, there are enough problems in the simplest configurations with a simple air conditioner, and those with dual-zone automatic climate control. The block is not made well enough, the buttons stick, stop pressing and spinning properly. And the damper motors break down, especially if you switch something intensively in winter while the interior has not yet warmed up. If there are extraneous sounds when switching the direction of flows (including the inclusion of air recirculation in the cabin), then this is an expensive repair. But sometimes you can still get off just by lubricating the rods, any grease will do. The same operation should be done if everything is still good, at least once every two to three years, take silicone grease and climb under the panel from the driver's side. Well, or entrust this business to professionals.

The water in the ceiling light is not at all a consequence of windshield leaks, just a lack of roof insulation, the shape of the cladding is such that condensation accumulates there. It's useless to look for holes in the roof, just ventilate the car more often, and you shouldn't drive with the climate off and without air conditioning - the car prefers dry air. By the way, this will have the best effect on the condition of the interior materials.

In the photo: Torpedo Opel Astra Sedan (H) "2007-14

If the steering column switches do not work, and sometimes some of the buttons on the center console, this is already serious. The problem is mainly electrical, the so-called CIM-module, also known as the front console connection module, is dying. A lot is tied to it, including the work of the immobilizer, and a breakdown can empty your pocket a tidy sum, since a visit to the owner of the dealer's Tech2 scanner will be required to bind a new module, or to those who know how to qualitatively repair old ones. Thousands of pages have already been written on the problem, there are many developments for "easy fixes" and workarounds, so it is better to refer to the primary sources.

For the rest, only random little things can annoy. Again, everything is done in a monumental way, from good materials. In addition, it is extremely technologically assembled and disassembled.

Electrician

Some of the electrical problems could be attributed to breakdowns of interior elements and vice versa. I have already told about the trouble with the CIM module and climate control, we can only complain about the low quality of the door wiring, it sometimes breaks in the corrugation. Moreover, it is not the wiring of the driver's door that breaks down, but the wiring of the rear doors. The characteristic signs of impending disaster are a wheezing speaker in the door and an inoperative central locking. It is treated either by the skillful work of an electrician, or by a proprietary repair kit, which is preferable.

In the photo: Opel Astra Hatchback 2.0 turbo (H) "2004–07

The central locking also fails due to the wear of the microswitches in the driver's door lock, it may not unlock the lock, it may open it at an inopportune moment, for example, when the car is parked. If the locks click when they hit the door trim, it's time to deal with them, change the microswitches in the drive.

A weak throttle and a gasoline engine ignition module are actually not as weak as practice shows. The true mileage of cars with such breakdowns is usually already well over a hundred to fifteen hundred thousand, regardless of what numbers the odometer shows, and the price of parts is quite sparing by modern standards. Provided that the candles are replaced regularly and at least once every 30-40 thousand kilometers, such problems hardly appear. The ignition module is mainly afraid of moisture and oil leaks - if not noticed in time, it will pierce the tip and knock out the coil.

Here, malfunctions of a controlled thermostat due to a failure of a heating element occur regularly. Do not forget to read errors, on many firmwares the "check" does not light up in this case, and the only thing that saves the motor from overheating is that the thermostat loses its tightness over time. Breakdowns of the wiper motor and the ingress of leaves into the climate control motor are a sign of rare cleaning of the engine compartment from dirt and leaves. Check the condition of the "aquarium", water may accumulate in it. This rarely happens and completely drainage is almost never clogged, but at an early stage it manifests itself precisely in the form of a wiper failure. The rear "wiper" turns sour - they need to be used, otherwise there are chances to burn the motor.

The radiator fans are another problem point, the motor is literally clogged with dust from burnt brushes. Fans made by Bosch are famous for the latter, and if there is Valeo, then there will be no problem.

Brakes, suspension and steering

Opel braking system, as usual, no surprises. This does not mean that there are no problems, they just are completely standard. The pads in the front squeak with little wear - it's easier to get used to or pick up with new "anti-squeak" plates. With a mileage of 200 thousand, the turn of the anthers will most likely come, especially if you abuse the wear of the pads "to zero". Brake discs are as reliable as an iceberg on which the "Titanic" has worn off, relatives survive up to five sets of pads or more than one and a half hundred thousand mileage. And they are not very sensitive to puddles and overheating. Note to the buyer: if there is something in the region of 100 thousand on the odometer, and the seller proudly announces new disks (or it is simply clear that they are fresh), then the mileage is not real.

Rear brake disc

price for original

RUB 7 705 (2 pcs)

At the rear, the situation is a little worse, because the new calipers with an integrated parking brake mechanism tend to sour even more than the calipers with a drum internal handbrake on older cars, which suffered from the same problem. Yes, and for breeding the pads now you need some kind of, but a tool.

However, this is not a replacement for pads when you need a dealer scanner, otherwise there are chances that your fingers will be slightly pressed forever ... Brake pipes and hoses hold well, the ABS module is extremely reliable. Is that the front ABS sensors are in a vulnerable area, and change along with the hub. Do not worry, they thought about the problem for a long time: the sensors have learned to change separately. What can you say, this is Opel, a huge number of owners day and night thinking how to save money! However, other services are still trying to breed to the fullest, offering a replacement assembly in order to get less dirty and weld more on the resale of parts.

Rear beam bushing

price for original

The Astra's suspension has always been good, and the H's is doubly beautiful. Good comfort and highest reliability. Just do not forget that sagging springs and extra 50 kg in the trunk of the sedan drastically reduce the resource of the rear beam bushings - they are not eternal here, as a standard they are enough for about a hundred thousand runs on "ordinary" roads and two hundred on Moscow roads.

At the front, the standard wear is mainly the rear silent blocks of the L-shaped arm and strut supports. The manufacturer was clearly too clever with the supports, because in our climate they begin to creak and squeal already at 50-60 thousand mileage. Users have long privately established that the reason is a lack of bearing lubrication and an unsuccessful boot design, which more likely collects dirt. When assembling, it is recommended to lubricate the unit abundantly, and if it is still working, then rinse it with a high pressure washer and fill it with grease. Suspension level sensors on cars with xenon are consumables, but this is completely typical for this element.

In the photo: Opel Astra Caravan (H) "2004–07

The steering on the Astra H is also healthy. Is that the resource of rods and tips is conventionally small. Yes, the electric pump EGUR on restyled cars with runs over 200 requires a fluid change. The rail itself does not flow and almost does not play. Cars with a conventional power steering pump are again limited by fluid contamination, but their pump is cheaper, and the fluid changes much easier.

But what about motors and gearboxes?

As you can see, the material turns out to be quite voluminous, so we will devote a separate material to the choice of the "right" engine. By the way, in this regard, Astra H is an almost unique car, because a manual transmission can cause almost more problems than an automatic one ...
