The oil in the Renault Logan gearbox does not need a service change and is designed for the entire life of the unit. However, in some cases, when the transmission elements are repaired with their own hands, especially if the gearbox is to be dismantled, it should be replaced.

A more common case in Renault Logan is a seal failure, as a result of which the fluid level in the gearbox decreases. Then the seal and oil are changed, since it is difficult to find a liquid similar to the factory one, and there are always doubts about their compatibility. The Renault Logan instruction manual recommends ELF TRANSELF NFP 75w-80 oil.

Preparatory operations

Before changing the fluid, it is necessary to drive a short distance to warm it up and mix it well - draining will be faster and all suspended impurities and dirt particles will be removed from the gearbox. Due to the fact that do-it-yourself car lifts for repairing and changing oil are rarely available, it will be more convenient to work in the pit. When driving into a pit, it must be taken into account that the gearbox drain plug is located on the left side of the engine compartment, and it will be more convenient to work with it if the car is slightly shifted to the right relative to the pit.

To avoid injury and burns, the following safety requirements must be observed:

  • Use only fully functional tools.
  • Use special clothing to protect against dirt, dust and hot parts of the mechanism: goggles, gloves, headgear.

It is not difficult to replace the liquid in the Logan box with your own hands, so the set of tools and accessories is very simple:

  • Socket wrench or 10 mm head.
  • The key is square with a face of 8 mm.
  • Pliers.
  • Carrying for local lighting.
  • Metal brush.
  • Waste liquid container.
  • Blower or funnel with hose about 0.5 m.

Additionally, a gasket for the drain plug is required.

Sequence of operations

Fluid replacement at the Logan checkpoint is carried out in the following order:
  1. Drive the car onto the repair pit so that there is space for the descent.
  2. Install portable lighting.
  3. Using a socket wrench or a “10” head, unscrew the six bolts securing the crankcase protection.
  4. Inspect the gearbox housing for impact marks or other damage. If defects are found, repairs are required.
  5. Clean the housing from dirt, especially in the area of the filler and drain holes.
  6. Unscrew the plastic filler plug of the gearbox. The cork has special edges for fingers and is turned out manually without the use of a tool. If it is difficult to unscrew, you can gently pull it out of place with pliers.
  7. Check fluid level. To do this, insert a clean wooden stick horizontally into the filler hole and shake it slightly. If the stick is immersed in liquid, then the level is sufficient. You can check it with your index finger.
  8. Unscrew the drain plug, being careful not to damage the gasket, and drain the used fluid into the prepared container.
  9. Inspect the cork and its magnetic part for the presence of metal. Minor particles may be present due to normal wear and tear of the mechanism. Larger ones with traces of chips or hardening indicate possible damage to the gears.
  10. Rinse the drain plug and clean its magnetic part from metal particles.
  11. Close the plug, replacing the gasket.
  12. Insert the hose from the blower or funnel into the filler hole. If a funnel is used, then its hose is lowered from the engine compartment.
  13. Pour liquid in an amount of approximately 3.3 liters. For a faster gulf, it is advisable to hold it in a warm place - the fluidity will increase. The filler hole is also a control one, and a leak from it indicates that the rate is filled.
  14. Close the fill plug.
  15. Remove drips from the gearbox housing, as they are concentrators of dirt accumulation during operation.
  16. Clean the crankcase protection from dirt and mount it in its place.

So that there is no question of which oil to add, be sure to save the container from it or write down the brand that you used in the Renault Logan car manual.
Waste liquid must be disposed of. This is done by organizations in your city with a license to dispose of hazardous household waste. In addition, each garage cooperative must have an equipped container for collecting used oil.

The oil in the Renault Logan gearbox, according to the manufacturer's instructions, should not be changed. However, car owners claim that changing the fluid in a manual transmission after 100-120 thousand kilometers improves the quality of gear shifting. Before this procedure, many car owners have the question of what kind of oil to fill in a Renault Logan box of a mechanical type.

Logan is produced not only with “mechanics”, in top trim levels they put an automatic transmission. Should I change the fluid in it? The manufacturer, as in the case of mechanics, does not recommend such an operation. Motorists agree with the manufacturer and believe that the liquid should only be topped up in case of a leak. Consider which oil to choose for a mechanical box, which hydraulic fluid can be added to the "machine".

The manufacturer's instructions say that a semi-synthetic ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80 is recommended for a Class J manual transmission. Earlier, in the manuals of a decade ago, Renault recommended the Tranself TRJ75W80 for Logan, but it was discontinued a long time ago.

On one popular forum of Logan owners, the topic of gearbox oil has more than 1000 posts. Judging by the reviews, “logan owners” stick to the Elf brand, but sometimes they choose the more expensive synthetic Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 or MOTUL GEAR 30075W-90.

There is also a look that motorists did not like - SHELL Getriebeoil EP 75w90GL4. People noted that Logan's gearbox starts to make noise on this transmission fluid, and the reverse gear engages with a crunch.

The manufacturer recommends topping up the automatic transmission with ELF Renaultmatic D3 Syn. We recommend that you follow this recommendation.

Features ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80

The Elf brand is actively supported by Renault. Tranself NFJ 75W80 is made using synthetic technology, designed for heavy loads. It contains EP additives. The international oil standard is API GL 4+. It has the following advantages:

  • different viscosity at elevated temperature and thermal stability;
  • has susceptibility to water;
  • perfectly protects parts from rust;
  • has a pour point of -40 °C (see table).

The additive package guarantees extreme pressure protection for gearbox gear teeth under increased loads. Tranself NFJ 75W80 provides silent switching of speeds.

The main problem, according to the reviews of "loganovod", is that this liquid is so popular that they began to fake it. In order to be able to distinguish low-quality products from the original, we recommend watching this video.

Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 and MOTUL GEAR 300 75 W-90

The main difference between Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90, MOTUL GEAR 30075W-90 and the product recommended by the manufacturer is that they are completely synthetic. They have the same advantages as the Tranself NFJ 75W80.

Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 also provides more reliable synchronizer performance when compared to traditional transmission fluids that have the API GL4 standard. MOTUL GEAR 30075W-90 has long established itself as a product whose oil film remains stable even under the harshest conditions.

Their main disadvantage is their high cost. Their price is higher than semi-synthetics by 40-50%.

What to look for when changing oil

The durability of the gearbox depends on the quality of the fluid. The main thing in choosing oil for the Logan checkpoint is not to sell cheap and not to choose an inexpensive mineral oil. It is characterized by instability. Semi-synthetics and synthetics are much better suited for Logan's gearbox.

However, do not mix different types of transmission fluid. For example, add semi-synthetics to synthetics. Or mix, for example, Elf and Motul, wanting to save money.

Part of the additives may precipitate and affect the operation of the gears of the gearbox. If the viscosity of the oil increases, it can curdle and the gearbox will stop working. Therefore, it is better to choose one oil and stick with it from now on. If the manufacturer suddenly stopped producing it, you should change the oil completely.

Hi all! For a long time we did not talk about car maintenance. The last article I wrote is z, which you can find on our website. It's time to bring up this topic. The idea came to me to write an article about oil change in Renault Logan box. Since most Renault Logan are equipped with a mechanical transmission, we will talk about it.

Regarding my communication with the Renault Logan car, I can say that the boxes on them are very tenacious and unpretentious. By itself, the "mechanics" is a very relatively simple and reliable unit. And manual transmission Renault Logan is no exception. However, you can "kill" any box. Therefore, the manual transmission requires at least some, but care. And the most important thing in servicing a gearbox is changing the oil in it.

The manufacturer himself assures that the boxes for Renault Logan are not serviced and the oil in them is designed for the entire service life. I am extremely negative about this newfangled trend. The fact is that all fluids, be it brake fluid, manual transmission fluid or power steering, lose their properties over time. Those. over time, a liquid that does not fulfill its intended purpose will undoubtedly harm the box. And the owner of the car, who blindly believes the words of automakers, will end up with expensive gearbox repairs. But you and I are not like that and we understand that oil change in Renault Logan box required and that is why you are here. Right? Then let's get down to business.

What will be required for an independent oil change in a Renault Logan box?

1. Place of performance of work. It can be a garage with a pit or a flyover.
2. A set of work clothes.
3. A set of tools. The most necessary are a 10" wrench and an 8" square.
4. Capacity for draining mining from the manual transmission.
5. Funnel and thin extension hose.
6. Clean napkin.
7. New oil in the gearbox. The manufacturer recommends filling in oil with API GL-4 quality class and 75W80 viscosity. From the factory in the Renault Logan manual transmission, ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80 oil is poured. Replacement will require 3.3-3.5 liters.

Instructions with photos for changing the oil in a Renault Logan box

1. We drive the car into a pit or overpass.

2. We dismantle the metal protection of the engine and remove it to the side. To do this, unscrew the six 10" bolts.

3. We substitute a container for draining the mining and unscrew the drain plug with a square on the 8 "drain plug.

4. We unscrew the control plug by hand.

5. When the oil has drained, we wrap the drain plug. It is advisable to immediately change the sealing ring on the cork.

6. We insert an extension hose into the control hole and bring it out into the engine compartment. We connect the hose to the funnel.

7. Pour new oil into the manual transmission. Immediately before filling the liquid, the oil canisters can be lowered into hot water. When heated, the oil will become less viscous and will be poured into the box faster. Fill with oil until it flows out of the control hole.

8. We wrap the control plug in place. It is advisable to immediately change the sealing ring.

9. Install the engine protection in place.

All! On this oil change in Renault Logan gearbox finished. It took about 30 minutes in total. Agree that this is a very simple, fast and inexpensive procedure? Thank you for your attention, see you soon!

Now, the popular Renault Logan family car is equipped with two types of gearboxes.

Checkpoint types

Namely: mechanical - which most cars on the market are equipped with, and automatic - not very popular in our country and presented exclusively in top-end models.

Manual transmission

The manual transmission is presented by the manufacturer in two versions jH1 (1.4) and jH3 (1.6) - which differ from each other only in the size of the clutch housing.

Gearbox jH3 on a Renault Logan car with an engine capacity of 1.6 liters

Gearbox jH1 on a Renault Logan with an engine capacity of 1.4 liters

Accordingly, the oil for two different types of manual transmission is identical. About,

Automatic transmission

Unlike the five-speed “mechanics”, the machine has only 4 gears and instead of oil, a special hydraulic fluid is poured into the “box”, the resource of which, as a rule, is enough for the entire period of using the car. .

When is it necessary to change the oil in the gearbox

Oil drained from gearbox at 60,000 km. Already very dirty, so the checkpoint worked with malfunctions

However, despite the fact that the manufacturer (by the way) did not set deadlines for replacing transmission oil and fluids at all, explaining that this is not required for the correct and smooth operation of the gearbox, experienced craftsmen and mechanics of Renault car service centers, it is recommended to replace every 60,000-100,000 kilometers (depending on operating conditions and time).

And on the other hand, no one is immune from the fact that before this cherished mileage is either not required, and then changing the oil in the gearbox becomes a desirable procedure. To avoid premature failure, watch out!

The choice of the factory or the choice of the people!?

The manufacturer, for replacement in a manual transmission (MTF marking), recommends branded gear oil: ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80(semi-synthetics), 75 W90(synthetics), (the price for 1 liter today is within 600 rubles). .

In the automatic transmission, according to the “manual” from the factory, you should pour ELF Renaultmatic D3 Syn, which is enough for a complete replacement of about 4 liters.

Experienced “Loganovody”, through personal trial and error in replacing gear oil, single out leaders who, in terms of quality and technical properties, are in no way inferior to those recommended from the Renault factory.

Despite all of the above, fans of Renault Logan cars also note a clear outsider, and do not recommend replacing with oil SHELL Getriebeoil EP 75w90 GL4. Judging by the dissatisfied statements, the manual transmission in tandem with gear oil from this manufacturer begins to behave like a worried stallion. In almost all cases, there is a hum, crunch and noise from the gearbox.

It is important to know!

Changing the oil in a gearbox, regardless of its type, is a very important and responsible procedure. The quality and condition of the oil plays a primary role in the longevity of your gearbox. After all, just imagine how many different parts are there: these are gears, and bearings, shafts.

All parts move at unimaginable speeds, and in order to protect them from the heat generated by friction, as well as the influence of external factors affecting the gearbox, it is important to know which gear oil will be useful. It is exactly the same as the motor one, it has three types of base: mineral, semi-synthetic and synthetic.

Types of gear oil

  • Mineral- the cheapest and most affordable oil of all on the market. This type of oil is added in mixtures with various additives (which contain sulfur), as it is quite unstable by itself.
  • Semi-synthetics- is somewhere in the middle of the price and technological category of the category between "mineral" and "synthetic". Due to the fact that semi-synthetic oil has the thickest viscosity, it is ideal for use on cars with high mileage.
  • Synthetic- a very fluid type of oil. Since its properties do not depend on external conditions (negative ambient temperature), this type of liquid does not thicken in the cold, thereby allowing all parts in the gearbox to work easier without losing performance.

Be careful!

Do not fill or mix different types of gear oil.

Since different manufacturers in the production of oils use different technologies from this, the product itself turns out to be diverse and with different characteristics and properties. Therefore, if you want your gearbox to serve you for a long time, it is better not to experiment!

The procedure for changing the oil in a manual transmission or automatic transmission of a Renault Logan urban crossover raises many questions among car owners. This is understandable, because in the recommendations of the Renault automaker one thing is written, but at the service station they say something completely different. The manufacturer advises not to change the oil during the entire life of the gearbox, and the specialists of technical centers talk about 60-100 thousand kilometers, upon reaching which a new transmission fluid should be filled. Who to believe? Let's figure it out together.

How often do you need to change the oil at the Logan checkpoint?

Lubricant is not required to be poured into a transmission with 4 or 5 stages. In accordance with the Renault Logan manufacturer's instructions, you only need to check its level and top up the fluid during vehicle maintenance. However, Russian drivers constantly complain that the left boot, which is connected to the grenade and washed with box oil, is out of order. Therefore, the masters “pull the blanket over themselves” - they advise changing the lubricant in the box every 60 km.

You won’t change it, and then the checkpoint may fail - you will need a “capital”. Due to the considerable cost of both the part itself and the work, replacing the fluid as a preventive measure will definitely save money!

Which oil is better to choose?

The manufacturer advises to fill in the Renault Logan gearbox with a branded product - Elf Tranself with a viscosity of 75W-80.

Many auto centers that service Logan do not provide a guarantee for work if a different lubricant is used. What is it connected with? Not only with a high viscosity oil that meets the requirements of the international specification API GL4 +. Tranself is excellent at preventing corrosion of synchronizer rings, typically made from soft brass and molybdenum. Therefore, it is better not to save!

To change the oil on a Renault Logan manual transmission with a brass-based synchronizer, it is better to purchase Elf Tranself NFP, and for automatic transmissions with molybdenum rings - Elf Tranself NFJ. Of course, these liquids have a drawback - sensitivity to low or high temperatures. Because of this, synchronizers and gears wear out quickly. Otherwise, there are simply no analogues with the same characteristics as Elf lubricants in Russia.

Level control

Checking the transmission fluid level at the Renault Logan checkpoint is a troublesome but simple procedure, which is usually carried out in a viewing hole or on a flyover. It is important to make sure that the car stands strictly horizontally, without distortions, otherwise there will be a lack of lubricant.

What is needed to control the oil level in the box?

To measure fluid, you will need the following:

  • oil collection container;
  • flashlight;
  • steel rod (probe);
  • wrenches 8 and 10 mm.

The Renault Logan manual transmission does not have a dipstick to check the gear oil level. The control is carried out through a hole with a white plastic screw in the front of the box. The lid is easily unscrewed by hand, but before doing this, substitute the container in case of leakage of liquid. Then insert a metal rod at a right angle into the filler hole, pull it out and inspect its surface. If the dipstick is clean, there is not enough lubrication. Add liquid using a syringe or funnel, then screw the plug back in. At the same time, do not forget to rinse it in gasoline and replace the rubber gasket.

How much oil is needed?

An empty manual transmission holds up to 3.5 liters, and an automatic transmission holds 4 liters of lubricant. Typically, liquid is added until it starts to overflow from the control hole. If a smaller amount of it fit in the box, then the car is at an angle. It must be placed horizontally, then add grease again.

There may be fine metal dust on the cover, which appeared after the natural break-in of the engine. If there are metal shavings besides it, this indicates damage to the gears. There is no need for urgent repairs.

How to make a replacement

Changing the transmission fluid in a Logan gearbox is not that difficult. The procedure is best carried out on a warm engine and in the warm season, using tools and materials such as:

  • grease Elf 75W-80;
  • carrying with a lamp;
  • box wrenches 10 mm;
  • screwdriver with a square slot;
  • a large syringe or hose with a hermetically attached funnel;
  • metal brush;
  • gasket for gearbox drain plug;
  • container for collecting oil with a volume of at least 5 liters.

Before starting work, warm up the box by driving 3-5 kilometers, then put the car over a viewing hole. To avoid trouble, do not forget to fix the car by applying the handbrake or placing a shoe under the rear wheel. Only after that proceed with the replacement.

Stages of work

Find a drain hole. It is located to the left of the crankcase, between the engine and the left wheel. Then change the oil according to the following algorithm:

Add lubricant until it starts to flow out of the inspection hole. Then install the plug and replace the crankcase protection.

Possible malfunctions after replacement

If the oil is changed correctly, the transmission will last for the entire life of the vehicle. But some motorists do not properly clean the filler hole from dust and earth, as a result of which the new oil becomes contaminated and loses its qualities. This immediately affects the operation of the gearbox.

Bearings wear out quickly, there is a hum during the operation of the unit and extraneous sounds when switching speeds. Spontaneous disengagement of gears while the car is moving is possible. If you do not take urgent measures and do not fill in new lubricant, the gearbox will fail - you will have to take the car to the service for a major overhaul.
