It's about Mitsubishi Galant (9th generation). I don’t post photos - everyone knows the car, in principle, although it is not the most "promoted" of cars of this class.

1. Choosing a car.
I chose the car for a long time. I was only interested in the second-hand market, class D and E. Naturally, the choice in this class is not the largest, but still there is. The main priorities: large, moderately powerful, automatic ("old", reliable), comfortable soft suspension, reliable engine and generally the reliability and prostate of the main components ... Well, in general, nothing new, what more could you want from a car)))) Outwardly, I liked the Camry in the 40th body, Mitsubishi Galant, Hengday Grander, Nissan Tiana, and perhaps that's all (right-hand drive: Mark and others did not consider, although Mark is certainly good). Skoda Superb, Chevrolet Epica, etc. did not like externally, so the technical part did not interest me so much.

2. Analysis of "practice".
I studied these cars for a long time in personal communication with the owners, read forums and reviews, etc. I will not write for a long time what I have figured out for myself, but one applicant dropped out (this is Nissan Tiana), there remained Camry, Hyundai Grander and Galant. Here the choice was more difficult, but still the Galant won in the price-quality ratio, he surpassed the Camry and Grander quite easily. I will not describe the agony of choosing between them.

3. External and internal appearance of the 9th generation Galant and the main characteristics.
There is a lot that has been said, written, not everyone will like the car outwardly. But if you look closely, there is nothing ugly about it, graceful smooth muscular forms, a "peasant" car in the full sense of the word. The ground clearance is 165 cm high, the length and the internally usable space are huge, the trunk is large and comfortable. Engine 2.4, reliable to be put on Mitsubishi for a long time, there are no complaints about it, pulls very cheerfully. The weight of the car is very impressive 1650 kg. I am a supporter of "heavy" cars - safety is above all. Despite the fact that the Camry is lighter, and there are a little more horses, but the galant is still faster (the owners of the Camry themselves admitted this), apparently this is the merit of not only the engine but also the machine gun, but more about it later. Inside, everything is very laconic, but at the same time materials of excellent quality are "rich", I don’t know how in the basic configuration, but in the "maximum speed" (leather, sunroof, Rockford audio system), everything is very pleasant, the "plastic" is worn out (in fact, not plastic) perforated rubberized moderately soft material, I have not seen anything like this anywhere. No creaks, no gaps at all. The assembled car is simply amazing. Even many premium classes of the present time (mainly assembled in our country) and even this build quality is not The seats are very comfortable, the driver is electrically regulated in all planes. The quality of the leather is very good. The music "rockfrod" is on top (relatively of course))) ).

4. Cars in motion.
It's just a fairy tale. Smooth running, Shumka and overall comfort are just super for a car in this price range. Yes, the CAMRIVODs will forgive me, but in the smoothness and overall comfort, the Galant wins, that's why I chose him and not the Camry. The car just floats, the road, or rather its absence, is not felt, the suspension just swallows it does not break through, I have not seen such a suspension in cars of this class, it is better only for 120 pradics, but this is a different car and a lot has already been said about it. An automatic transmission is something with something, it switches smoothly at all, it is not noticeable, although it is 4 degrees, but very cool in everything, it and the engine understand others from a half-word, the relationship is excellent. The speed is felt only after 140-150 km / h, the power reserve is large. I'm not a racer, but the car, if necessary, picks up speed very quickly when overtaking and other extreme conditions, there is also a manual gear shift mode. There was a case changed with a friend for a while: he Camry I told him a galant. He turned out to be an honest man, admitted that he liked everything on the Galante more, especially in the suspension, and so I ask: "what else", he says: "Well, you know, you can't explain it like that ... -like in everything in general. .. "I got it. Well, you know how in love you can't explain what you love for, or like in an old lobrom movie: "well, unless you tell a song ..." .))) The engine and gearbox are Japanese and so on ... The car was completely assembled in the USA, and even though we don't like America there, the cars, especially at that time, were assembled very efficiently.

5. The ending.
you can write a lot more. For me, there is only one conclusion. There are no competitors for a car in this price category in this class (at least for me). In 2007-2008, the Camry at maximum speed cost about 850 thousand rubles, a galant at maximum speed about 820 thousand rubles. That is, the new cars are close in price. Now the average price of a solid 07-08 Camry is 600 tr, a solid galant 450 tr. Everything suggests that the Toyota brand is more popular and loses less in price. But this does not mean the "true" price of the car.

If the galvanized body is damaged, corrosion destroys zinc and not steel.
Types of processing
Over the years, the process itself has changed. The car is younger - will always be galvanized better! Galvanized types
The presence of zinc particles in the soil covering the body does not affect its protection and is used by the manufacturer for the word "galvanized" in advertising materials. ... Testing Test results of vehicles rolled off the assembly line with the same damage (cross) on the lower part of the front right door. The tests were carried out in the laboratory. Conditions in a hot salt spray chamber for 40 days correspond to 5 years of normal operation. Hot Dipped Galvanized Vehicle(layer thickness 12-15 microns)
Galvanized car(layer thickness 5-10 microns)

Cold galvanized car(layer thickness 10 microns)
Car with zinc metal
Vehicle without galvanizing
It's important to know- Over the years, manufacturers have improved the technology of galvanizing their cars. A younger car will always be better galvanized! - Coating thickness from 2 to 10 microns(micrometers) provides excellent protection against the occurrence and spread of corrosive attacks. - The rate of destruction of the active zinc layer, in the place of damage to the body, is from 1 to 6 microns per year... Zinc is more actively destroyed at elevated temperatures. - If the manufacturer has the term "galvanized" not added "full" this means that only the elements subject to impacts have been processed. - Pay more attention to the presence of the manufacturer's warranty on the body, rather than loud phrases about galvanizing from advertising. Additionally

The history of this car began in 1969, when the first compact sedan mitsubishi galant rolled off the assembly line of the Japanese automobile corporation, which eventually grew to a mid-size one. Since that time, "knightly" ( this is how Galant is translated from French) the car has undergone nine changes and changed the place of assembly. Until 1994, Mitsubishi Galant was produced in Japan, and then cars assembled in the American state of Illinois at the Diamond-Star Motors plant began to enter the American car market. You can read a review of the Mitsubishi Lancer X.

A small sedan of a classic layout with a standard 1.5-liter engine and dependent rear leaf spring suspension, which appeared as one of the modifications of the Mitsubishi Colt model, became the ancestor of a large family of prestigious high-quality cars. In particular, on the basis of the Mitsubishi Galant, a dynamic solid coupe Colt Galant GTO was produced, which was distinguished by a high-tech two-shaft engine at that time, as well as a rear dependent leaf spring suspension.

It should also be noted that various modifications of Galant have repeatedly become "Car of the Year" in Japan due to their high consumer qualities. During its existence, more than nine million copies of the car have been sold. At the end of 2003, the time came for Mitsubishi Galant 9. It is with this version of Galant that the largest number of events of different scale and significance are associated. First, for a number of countries in Southeast Asia, separate variations of the sedan were proposed.

In particular, the Galant Grunder was proposed for Taiwan, featuring a unique front end, which later became simply the Grunder. Galant 240M equipped with a 2.4 liter MIVEC engine were sent to the Philippines and China. Motorists of a number of CIS countries saw the ninth generation mitsubishi galant only in 2006. Secondly, Mitsubishi Galant 9 appeared as a result of the globalization of the world economy. American Japanese was developed almost entirely in the United States.

In particular, designers from California worked on its design, the current technical characteristics of the Mitsubishi Galant were "acquired" in Michigan, and the assembly was carried out on an assembly line in Illinois. It is possible that the automaker spent more than three years on adapting to the operation of a car in Russian conditions, before the car appeared on the Russian market. Unfortunately, among a little more than three hundred changes that the "Russian" mitsubishi galant has undergone, the most unpleasant thing was the presence of only one engine option. Moreover, both at first and in Mitsubishi Galant 2012.

Thirdly, the Mitsubishi Galant sedan that appeared on the Russian market in terms of price parameters corresponded to the top-end performance of D-class cars, such as Opel Vectra, Hyundai NE and Mazda 6. Moreover, in terms of overall dimensions, Galant could compete with even more venerable and expensive rivals: BMW 5-Series and Volvo S80, Nissan Teana and Toyota Camry. But the most significant changes took place in his appearance.

Exterior and interior of Mitsubishi Galant 9

It should be especially noted that the example of Galant can be traced to the entire evolution of design ideas from the end of the 60s of the last century to the present day. In particular, not the slightest hint remained from the "shark" design of the mitsubishi galant viii in the new version. The angularly predatory "teenager" has now acquired a solidly imposing appearance. This is not to say that the new design won the hearts of all motorists, without exception. Some liked it, others thought that the Americans had hopelessly ruined the car, abandoning the previous, original exterior.

In fairness, it should be noted that most critics simply "greeted him by his clothes", apparently forgetting about the second part of this popular expression. According to Mitsubishi representatives, the main task was to maintain impeccable style and give the car excellent aerodynamic characteristics. And they succeeded. Sharp lines at the front end, with a new radiator grille trim, new headlights and foglights, emphasize the power and dynamism of the car.

Raised contours and side lines give the wedge-shaped body silhouette some resemblance to a well-built athlete. The consistency of the new look is completed by the expressive design of the stern with new lights. The overall dimensions of the novelty are (length x width x height): 4865 x 1840 x 1485 millimeters. The wheelbase is 2750 millimeters, the ground clearance (ground clearance) is 165 millimeters. The useful volume of the luggage compartment with the backrests folded down is 480 liters.

Regarding the interior of the mitsubishi galant 2012, it can be noted that many of those criticizing its appearance would have changed their tone by getting inside the car. As noted by many experts in the automotive market, Galant has the most spacious interior among its "classmates". In addition, the developers took into account that the tastes and needs of the client have been growing from time to time, and offered completely new, higher quality finishing materials and excellent equipment. American origin is indicated only by the absence of longitudinal adjustment of the steering column.

Everything else is at the European level. Excellent lateral support for the front seats, electrically adjustable driver's seat (eight positions), orange instrument lighting ... The buttons for controlling the audio system and cruise control have moved to the outside of the steering wheel. The dashboard is characterized by acceptable information content, which seems incredible with a large number of different options. Among the equipment are climate control and a premium audio system Rockford Acoustic, equipped with a six-CD changer and a 360-watt electronic amplifier with nine speakers. In a word, there is everything that a car of this class needs.

Specifications MITSUBISHI GALANT 9

As noted above, the new mitsubishi galant is somewhat embarrassed by the technical characteristics of which for the Russian market were limited to one power unit, namely the absence of alternative engines. Nevertheless, it can be noted - one, but which one. Probably the most pleasant circumstance is its "omnivorousness", which allows the use of gasoline, starting from AI-92. The 2.4-liter SOHS 4G69 four-cylinder engine has an acceptable power (158 horsepower) and is capable of accelerating to 200 km / h. The engine is equipped with an automatic transmission with artificial intelligence, which allows it to select the optimal gears and adapt to the owner's driving style.

The technical characteristics in terms of the safety system for the driver and passengers are successful for the Mitsubishi Galant. In particular, in the production of the body, the proprietary Realized Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) technology was used, which provides a safety cage and crumple zones. This and also airbags and curtain airbags, as well as other options, are worthy of the NHTSA, who put up 5 points for passive safety. In Russia, there are two complete sets of different equipment: Intense and Instyle.

Unfortunately for Mitsubishi Galant fans, 2012 was the year of the end of the Galant era. It's time for Outlander and Lancer.

Most of the cars have conventional front-wheel drive and manual and automatic transmissions, which have long been known, for example, from the Lancer. Manual gearboxes are F5M42-1 and F5M42-2, automatic gearboxes are presented with transmission options of our own design F4A42, aka INVECS-II, and with 2.4 GDI 4G64-4 engines and supercharged V6 series 6A13-7, they also installed a five-speed automatic transmission W5A42 -2, and the more powerful W5A51-3. Five more steps are sometimes found on Japanese all-wheel drive Legnum with a 1.8 4G93-G engine.

I do not consider the most exotic options with YAC simply due to the fact that, with a low prevalence of objective data on exploitation, there is no. Yes, and there is little information on the operation of all-wheel drive versions. Although hardly surprises can be expected from them: they contain the same components as on the Lancer Evo and the first generation Outlander. And the transfer cases for manual transmission and automatic transmission are unified and interchangeable. And this means that everything is quite simple and reliable.

In the photo: under the hood Mitsubishi Galant V6 "1998-2001

It is extremely easy to get confused in Galant / Legnum / Aspire configurations, there are many of them, they differ for different markets. And the interchangeability of transmission units is very limited. Unless a manual transmission can be bought by knowing only the gear ratios. But here, too, we must not forget that for turbocharged and atmospheric engines there are different versions of bells for different positions of the starter. And if you take boxes for four-wheel drive cars, then there may be too many surprises.

In the photo: Mitsubishi Aspire "1998-2003 In the photo: Mitsubishi Legnum "1996-2002

Automatic transmissions are not electronically interchangeable, and even gearbox housings may differ depending on the motor, drive, year of manufacture and steering position. The installation of a "limited compatibility" box requires a good understanding from the master, who in our time is more and more difficult to meet.

And don't be surprised by the prices of contract boxes. They often look strange: they seem to be the same box, but the price difference can be three times. Often the reason lies in the demand and shortage of certain gearbox options, and not only in the greed of suppliers.

Mitsubishi is one of those manufacturers who do not skimp on transmissions. Almost all cars have gearboxes that can handle the engine torque with a margin. Only boxes paired with tuned 6A13-7 and turbo version 4G63T will fall into the risk zone. In all other cases, transmission breakdowns can only be the result of a run of under half a million kilometers, loss of oil, shock or unsuccessful intervention during minor repairs. For an automatic transmission, overheating is added, no oil changes, a torn gas turbine engine or wear of its blocking linings to the ground. And now about everything in order.

Mechanical five-speed gearboxes F5M42 and W5M51 proved to be quite reliable. Of course, only if the oil level is maintained and there are no hard overloads during slipping and drifting. With runs under 200 thousand, the average driver has a gradual wear of the second-fourth gear synchronizers and even difficult engagement, but with slow shifts, the problem practically does not bother. Over time, the switching mechanism loses its former clarity, the cables begin to sour, but if the car does not stand for months, such problems almost never happen. And do not forget about the presence of dual-mass flywheels on GDI motors, which over time also need to be repaired or replaced.

Automatic transmissions are mainly represented by the four-speed F4A42. This is a self-developed box of the company, but the design clearly gravitates to the automatic transmission made by Chrysler, which has long been the owner of Mitsubishi. The design turned out to be very successful and long lasting. A close relative of this box was installed on Hyundai Solaris assembled in Russia before restyling.

The service life of the F4A42 with careful maintenance and careful handling is almost endless. In any case, these boxes, subject to replacement of solenoids and scheduled maintenance of gas turbine engines, serve even more than 350 thousand. The F4A42 version is distinguished by the presence of an external oil filter, which is best changed at every MOT, or at least every second. The internal filter changes only when the automatic transmission bell is removed, which means that it will be replaced only when the box breaks.

The heat exchanger in the main radiator does a good job with its duties on engines of 2.0 and 1.8 liters, but with engines of 2.4 and 2.5 liters on running automatic transmissions in the summer it may not be enough, and then the temperature will exceed 120 degrees at normal city traffic mode. In this case, it is better to install an additional automatic transmission radiator, which will cost significantly less than its bulkhead.

In addition to the wear of the solenoid package and gas turbine engine linings, there are a number of weak points. First of all, this is a thrust needle bearing of the Overdrive series, as well as wear and even damage to the input shaft. And on machines with a 2.5 liter engine, with which these boxes were installed before restyling, the splines of the driven shaft of the gas turbine engine, which are cut off under load, do not withstand. Fortunately, all these troubles are manifested mainly on all-wheel drive versions of automatic transmissions after drifting or slipping, or with shock shifting due to valve body problems. Well, or in case of loss of oil, which is, unfortunately, a frequent occurrence for these boxes. On older cars, at the first signs of cracks on the automatic transmission oil cooling tubes, replace them with new, re-crimped ones. And change the box seals in time.

Five-speed boxes of the F5A42 / W5A42 family are structurally similar to four-stage ones, but on weak engines they have a better mode of operation of the gas turbine engine, a longer resource of its blocking linings and less chances of overheating. Usually they have less wear on the valve body solenoids, basically only the pressure control valve wears out. But the mechanics of the box are more sensitive to overloads, especially since they are installed with powerful motors, including the V6. Here, during overloads, you can already see a breakdown of the Direct drum shaft, as well as the front and rear planetary gear sets. Due to the lack of oil pressure on the age boxes, it is often necessary to replace the bushings and repair the oil pump with runs of more than 250 thousand. The differential is also heavier loaded, and the chances of its failure are greater. In general, these boxes are stronger than four-stage and, all other things being equal, are in the best condition. But they are most often put on four-wheel drive cars with powerful motors, where a quiet life does not shine for them. But fortunately, these boxes were installed on newer models, so there are no special problems with contract units.

With a more torque box of the W5A51 series, there is more trouble. It is found less often than the previous ones, although its price is also low. This box works with the most powerful engines, and it lacks strength. Galant VIII has three variants: E6A, E6B and EZB. The first generation is the weakest, the second and third from restyling are noticeably better, but they have a problem with the spring numbered MR534166 / 2741A007. Boxes from Lancer Evolution 7GTA and 9GTA with DZH and D1Z codes are also suitable for replacement. But in all versions, all three planetary gears are working at the limit of their capabilities, and with powerful motors, the axes of the planets and the spring ring of the drum of the reverse gear cannot withstand, and sometimes the drum is wiped. The E6A box, which has the oldest and most reliable version, and boxes with Lancer, on which they again began to put the ring of the old design with the code 2741A007, are spared from these troubles.

Of course, clutches in combat mode require regular checks and replacement, and if there are any problems with oil pressure due to overheating or contamination of the valve body, they burn out.

The box with the D1Z code has the strongest design, but its bell is not suitable for the 6A13 motor (it is only for the 4G63T).

The E6B and EZB versions have an external filter, which has a good effect on the resource during quiet operation. However, what kind of quiet operation with a stock motor of 280 forces am I talking about?

The box on the VR4 has a standard radiator, which is enough as long as the box is in good working order. Almost all automatic transmission options have a regular filter, and improvements are needed mainly for its mechanical part. And, of course, every 30-40 thousand kilometers an oil change is required. True, for most running and well-tuned cars, 30-40 thousand is the interval of the "small" automatic transmission bulkhead.

Motors

Mitsubishi engines from this period are an interesting combination of new technology and old proven design. The most reliable engines on the Galant VIII are undoubtedly the 4G63-6 2.0 SOHC / DOHC engines with conventional injection and 4G64 2.4 MPI, especially in the SOHC version. Six-cylinder engines of the 6A13 series with a volume of 2.5 liters with conventional injection are also reliable, but they have more problems with lubrication and are noticeably more expensive to maintain, although their resource is higher. The supercharged versions of the 6A13, of course, are much more expensive to maintain and more vulnerable, but they are quite stable and may have a good resource. Although the likelihood that they were "annealed" is maximum.

Much more trouble with all GDI motors, and somehow they do not have positive qualities. There are all the "delights" of direct injection in the form of increased design complexity, limited resource of fuel injection pump and injectors, high probability of failures due to sensors, frankly poor starting qualities in winter and a tendency to coke piston rings. In general, the motors 1.8 4G93-G, 2.4 4G64-4 and 2.0 4G94-G with GDI differ in a very nasty character. Only diesel 4D58 is worse than them, which are generally considered one of the most unsuccessful engines of the brand. Although the most successful five-speed automatic transmissions usually came with GDI engines.

Balance Shaft Belt

520 rubles

Despite its age, Galant has relatively few complaints about the engine compartment wiring and cooling system. And engine modifications with conventional multipoint injection boast impressive stability. In general, the mechanics of Mitsubishi motors are one of the best, although the drive of the balance shafts with a belt is a very, very original solution that does not add reliability to the motors, but this problem, if desired, is eliminated at the very first replacement of the timing.

The low resource of the exhaust system components and the weak suspension of the motors are common disadvantages of the entire series. Already after three to five years of operation, these units often demanded attention, and now, most likely, non-original components of unknown quality have been there for a long time. The original is too expensive, and the replacements are also not encouraging by the low cost. Supports from Chery (from which you can put a lot here) are not suitable, but the support of the transfer case from the Niva stands up perfectly as the front support of the in-line "four". But it must be borne in mind that with non-original supports, you can forget about the quiet operation of the engines: vibrations are noticeably added, and the motors themselves, with an average mileage of 250 thousand kilometers, are far from ideal.

Plugs that have not been replaced for a long time, a dirty intake or throttle valve, a dead ventilation system and suction through a vacuum system - all these are the everyday life of a buyer of an inexpensive Galant.

Another problem is the low crankcase and the subframe that does not protect it. A significant number of cars have a crankcase with traces of repairs, so pay close attention to this part when buying. And for 6A13 engines, this is simply necessary due to the peculiarities of their oil intake system.

In the photo: Mitsubishi Galant Elegance "1996-2003

The engines of the 4G6 family with conventional distributed injection on the Galant are mainly presented in two options. This is the SOHC version of the 2.0 4G63 motor on European cars and the SOHC version of the 2.4 4G64 motor on "Americans". Occasionally you can see the DOHC version of the 4G63 and even cars with a turbocharged 4G63T. And it is not at all a fact that this is a "collective farm": it is difficult to figure out the number of complete sets of the car, small regional and anniversary versions are quite numerous. These engine versions are not only reliable, but also have an almost exemplary control system, stable and comfortable, excellent laying of all components in the engine compartment and at the same time will please with good traction. In general, the impeccable Japanese car industry. The few enemies of these motors are age and slovenliness of services.

Timing Belt 2.4 / 2.0 DOHC

3 401 rubles

Age manifests itself in the form of aging of the control system, hoses and plastic of the cooling system, cracked exhaust and, especially sadly, intake manifolds. Over time, the chances of damage to the timing belt from a broken balancer shaft belt increase. With runs over 150 thousand, either the repair of the entire shaft mechanism and constant monitoring of the oil pressure are required to exclude wedging of the shaft bushings and a break in the drive belt, or a complete shutdown of the system with muffling of the oil channels and removal of the problem belt. The timing belt is capable of stably passing 60 thousand, but the "regular" 90 on age motors, rather, an unattainable dream. The chances of bending the valve are too large, it is better not to save on the belt.

Hydraulic lifters are a long-standing problem of the company's motors, they are short-lived. Reducing oil change intervals to 5-7 thousand helps a little, but in the long term it is cheaper to simply change them every second timing belt change or use decarbonizing compounds to clean the oil system. This measure is able to bring them to their senses for a short time.

Overall, this is still one of the best Japanese motors, and extremely inexpensive. However, everything is complicated with contract engines. 4G6 motors exist in a whole bunch of modifications. They can have different cylinder heads, different starter locations, they can be made for different attachments. It even had a GDI version. In general, it will not be possible to take a contractor or spare parts simply by the designation of the engine type. But the motor is popular, there are enough experts in it, so the problem can be solved.

In the photo: Mitsubishi Galant Elegance Wagon "1996-2003

Direct injection is a fashionable thing, many claim that it is necessary and very useful. But veteran owners of GDI motors are usually much more skeptical. Taking a car with them is highly discouraged. True, it is often impossible to refuse: there are not so many living cars, and the motor control system is easier to put in order than the body. Moreover, now the problems are roughly clear, and solutions are known. Of course, the system is more expensive and more capricious. Here and the EGR is overloaded, and the intake is dirty, and the valves overgrow and hang, and the compression rings lie due to the peculiarities of the combustion process with an increased amount of soot, and the injectors are gentle, and the injection pump is even more delicate than the injectors. But expensive components can be restored, the most popular parts are on sale, and Mitsubishi even released Shumma fluid for decoking GDI engines.

Mechanically, the 4G64 motors in the DOHC version are no worse than their MPI SOHC counterparts, except that the hydraulic lifters often do not even live to replace the belt.

The motors of 1.8 and 2.0 liters of the 4G93 and 4G94 series are based on a different block, do not have balance shafts, and many consider them even more reliable than the time-tested 4G63. But in practice, the design turned out to be more delicate, especially since the balancers of the 63rd engine can be removed, but it is more difficult to provide the younger series with normal cooling of the cylinders and a more durable piston. So, unfortunately, the oil appetite and rather strong wear of the piston group is present even with runs of 150-200 thousand. Yes, and the earbuds are lifted up here suspiciously often. In general, not the most successful series of engines from either side.

In the photo: Mitsubishi Galant Estate "1997-2003

Six-cylinder engines of the 6A13 series are good for everyone, but the crankshaft liners bulge up with any mistake. Low-viscosity oil and slight overheating - the motor is being repaired. Dirty oil intake mesh - for repair, old oil pump ... well, you know where the motor goes. It is advisable to use viscous oils, SAE40 or even SAE50, and keep the crankcase clean. It is advisable to change the timing belt every 60 thousand, although it can take longer, up to a hundred. Just remember that saving 10 thousand can result in replacing the entire motor.

6 838 rubles

The pump is comparatively low-resource, but it is probably already a non-original one, and it all depends on the choice of the supplier. A liquid oil heat exchanger requires attention and is very picky about the quality of antifreeze, corrosion occurs in it regularly. The rest is a strong and very successful motor. It is considered by many to be optimal for the Galant, but it is heavy. With it, the already small resource of the front suspension falls, and its consumption is high. In service, it is noticeably more difficult than in-line "fours", not to mention repairs. But it is not noisy, very high-torque and goes well with any automatic transmission.

The fan motor VR-4 is the same 6A13 with biturbo. As a sports engine, it is inferior to the supercharged 4G63, but it has more thrust, the engine itself is cheaper and more powerful in stock, and the sound is more pleasant. The resource is quite decent, there are even copies with runs over 200 thousand without traces of major repairs, but you should not hope for a miracle. Cars with these motors do not drive slowly, and the motors themselves are often tuned up to values "slightly over 400". The resource, as expected, depends mainly on the quality of preparation, service and the degree of "bulk". But it seems to me that if you are going to buy a VR-4, then you already know more about this motor than can be stated in one paragraph of the text.

Instead of a resume

The Galant VIII was a beautiful and interesting car. If the body was well looked after, and the engine does not contain GDI letters in the index, then this is not too troublesome and pleasant car even now. True, it is still demanding on the quality of service. Otherwise, it turns out to be a rather uncomfortable bucket. Even if it is still pretty outwardly.

In the photo: Mitsubishi Galant Sport "1996-2003

It is worth taking this car only with MPI engines, but there are doubts about the expediency of six-cylinder atmospheric engines. Whether to buy a VR-4 is a question beyond common sense: more than three hundred horsepower is not for everyone and not for every day.

Separately, a couple of words about the "Americans". There are quite a few of them, and they are simpler and somewhat cheaper than European and Japanese cars in operation. First of all, thanks to the 2.4 4G64 MPI motors and the absence of a multi-link in the front suspension. But the interior of cars from the United States is noticeably worse, their equipment is poorer, and the build quality is clearly not up to that of Japanese. However, if you are not jarred by the cheapness of the American midsize, and you need a big and family car, then this is also a rather interesting option.

Mitsubishi Galant is a mid-size business-class sedan, the closest competitor to Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and other D-class cars. In production since 1974. In various generations, the model was produced in sedan, hatchback and station wagon bodies. Until recently, Galant was offered on the market only as a sedan. In addition, he was considered the most affordable representative of this segment. In 2004, the ninth generation Galant debuted. In 2008, a restyled version of it was released, and in 2012 the production of Galant was completely discontinued due to low demand.

Mitsubishi Galant owner reviews

Generation 6

  • Konstantin, Lipetsk, 1.6 79 p. with. petrol. I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant, bought it in the late 1990s. Then the country was full of supported foreign cars imported from abroad. So the choice was huge, even better than now. True, there was much more junk than cars in good condition. But I was lucky, I got a copy with 78 thousand km mileage. With a 1.6-liter petrol engine. Its capacity is 79 liters. with. enough in urban environments. In general, the engine is suitable for leisurely driving. The car is comfortable, the suspension is well adapted to our roads. Average fuel consumption is 8-9 liters per 100 km, I fill in 92nd gasoline.
  • Mikhail, Taganrog, 1.8 94 liters. with. petrol. My 1991 Galant drove 170 thousand km, and is still doing well. This is what Japanese technology means, it is always in service. The atmospheric 94-horsepower engine is reliable, high-torque, and economical, consumes 10 liters per 100 km.
  • Oleg, Moscow region, 1.6 79 p. with. petrol. I have a Galant in the most basic configuration, with a 79-horsepower gasoline engine. A budget and unpretentious car for every day. Tenacious and hardy, with an impenetrable suspension. In the city, it consumes up to 8-9 liters per hundred.
  • Dmitry, Yaroslavl, 1.8 94 liters. with. I'm happy with the car, I still drive the Galante. This is my first foreign car, inherited from my father. I remember the day we bought it - from one reseller, the case was in 1999. A version with a 94-horsepower 1.8-liter engine that supports 92-th gasoline. Solid and unpretentious car for every day. Roomy interior and capacious trunk. An excellent family and practical car, sometimes it even evokes nostalgic feelings. Galant - the car of my childhood, consumes up to 9-10 liters per 100 km. The car of my childhood.
  • Alexey, Nizhny Novgorod, 1.8 135 p. with. I have a Galant with an automatic transmission and a powerful 135-horsepower engine. In the city, it consumes 11-12 liters during vigorous driving, I usually drive at high revs, since the sports chassis of the car sets it up for fast driving.
  • Tatiana, Nikolaev, 1.8 90 liters. with. petrol. The car came from her husband. Excellent condition, despite the 150 thousand on the odometer. Average consumption of 92 gasoline reaches 9-10 liters / 100 km.

Generation 7

With engine 1.8

  • Ruslan, Leningrad region. I'm happy with the car, I bought a used car from an old friend. A copy of 1998, the current mileage is 180 thousand km. The 1.8-liter engine supports 92nd gasoline and consumes an average of 10 liters per 100 km. The car looks stylish and brutal. There is nothing superfluous in the exterior and interior of the Mitsubishi Galant, everything is done simply and to the point, not like my wife's Nissan Juke. In general, I am a lover of such classics, I just trudge from it. All these vibrations, noises and a roaring engine - it's for me, even the adrenaline raises and tunes to a fast ride. Such is my Galant, powerful and economical car.
  • Konstantin, Minsk. I liked the car, my relatives gave it to me as unnecessary. Mitsubishi Galant 1997 release, with a 1.8-liter engine. I stood in the garage for a long time, and before the first launch I had to tinker a little with the electrician. The sedan consumes from 8 to 12 liters, depending on the driving style.
  • Pavel, Kaliningrad. Galant is the best car in terms of price, quality and performance. I bought an option with mileage under 100 thousand, even more or less fresh copy. The 1.8 engine works with precise mechanics, and the average consumption is 10 liters / 100 km.
  • Ekaterina, Yaroslavl. The wheelbarrow is what I need for my needs. Used mainly in the city - to work and back home. And before and after work, you still need to take the children to kindergarten, and then pick them up. In general, Galant is a solid family car for every day. Consumes 10 liters with a 1.8 engine.
  • Yuri, Bryansk. I have a supported Mitsubishi Galant, drove 100 thousand km on it - no serious breakdowns, the car works like a clock. It consumes from 10 to 11 liters per 100 km, I always drive as fast as the 1.8-liter engine allows. Galant tunes in to an aggressive ride, you just can't resist. I am very pleased with the purchase.
  • Alexey, Stavropol Territory. Cool car, version of 1998, the car drove under 200 thousand km. I go and complain, with comfort, pure soul and pleasure. I have only positive emotions from this car, it is very fast in the city and practically does not break down, although there are about 140 thousand km on the odometer. A 1.8-liter engine consumes 9-10 liters per hundred, on the highway you can keep within 8-9 liters per 100 km. I would like to praise the Galant for its roomy interior, high-quality finishing materials and good build quality.

With 2.0 engine

  • Constantine, Smolensk. My Galant drove 150 thousand km, thanks for being still alive. A sturdy and durable car with a masculine design. Great rides, I also praise the powerful acceleration and braking dynamics. A two-liter heart eats from 10 l / 100 km.
  • Oleg, Vorkuta. Galant is the best option for working in a taxi. Before him I went to Dishman Logan, which I got tired of. Galant is a more playful, powerful and sporty car that brings joy every day. I sit behind the wheel with pleasure, how lucky I must be. A car with a 2.0 engine consumes 10-11 liters per 100 km.
  • Nikolay, Penza. I have a 1998 Galant with a powerful two-liter petrol engine. With him in the city I fit into 11 liters per 100 km, if you go mainly at medium speeds. If you push from the heart, you get 12 liters. This is already a lot, but it is possible to fill in 92nd gasoline. Besides, in the trunk of my Galant there is an Italian-made HBO - it doesn't stink with gas in the cabin. The car is perfectly soundproofed from the external environment, the suspension is energy-intensive. On the highway Galant consumes a maximum of 9-10 liters / 100 km.
  • Anton, Lipetsk. Cool car designed for my needs. Operated in urban and suburban conditions. I am a tourist, I have traveled half of Russia, but then I had a Renault Logan. This time I plan to dash to Eastern Europe. I'll take my camera with me, and of course - Mitsubishi Galant. So far, I’m driving around the city, doing a run-in before a long-distance adventure, let's say so. A car with a 2-liter engine consumes 10 to 12 liters per 100 km.
  • Tatiana, Nizhny Novgorod region. A car that I need for my needs, a family and practical car for daily trips. I knew in advance what kind of car I needed. Well, of course, Japanese, even if supported. I have a two-liter version of Galant, with an average consumption of 11 l / 100 km.
  • Mikhail, Priozersk. I liked Galant, a car for all occasions. I drive with comfort and do not complain. The car consumes within 10 l / 100 km, is equipped with a powerful and reliable 2-liter engine, working with an automatic transmission. The box works smoothly, adjusts for a dynamic ride.

With 2.5 engine

  • Constantine, Nizhny Novgorod. I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant with a powerful 2.5-liter engine. Gasoline engine, solid, time-tested aspirated. It confidently pulls at all speeds, I have no doubt about its reliability. For 200 thousand km, nothing terrible happened to the car, the car is perfectly adapted for our roads, I drive with comfort and I don’t know any problems. I serve in my own garage, I buy only original spare parts that can be found on disassembly. Galant costs me inexpensively, in the city it consumes 12 liters per 100 km, I fill in 92nd gasoline.
  • Vladislav, Perm Territory. Mitsubishi Galant is a legendary car, and that says it all. Our whole family traveled to Galants. First my grandfather, then my father, and now I am. By the way, grandfather Galant got by pull, he was a party member. So Galant has a special meaning for me. It is a pity that they stopped releasing it. I still drive it, by the way, I have a 1997 version from my father. With a 2.5 liter engine and a gun, I fit into 11-12 liters per 100 km.
  • Karina, Simferopol. I liked the car, ideal for daily trips, travel, etc. The whole family is happy, the children and mother-in-law are delighted with my purchase. Galant in good condition, reliable and economical. Despite the powerful 2.5-liter engine, you can keep within 11 liters.
  • Pavel, Rostov. A powerful and reliable car for every day. I have a Galant with a 2.5-liter engine and an automatic. The box is tuned as it should, it reveals the potential of the engine well. In the urban cycle I fit into 12 liters, outside the city I get 9-10 liters / 100 km. I would like to praise Galant for the practical and quality materials in the cabin. By the way, three tall passengers will fit in the back.

Generation 8

With engine 1.8

  • Alexey, Minsk. Galant I got from my brother, as soon as I passed on the right. So this is my first foreign car. Initially, I thought to take something simpler, but then a case turned up - my brother was going to sell the car, and here I drew myself like this - give it to me. The car was produced in 2000, in fair condition, equipped with a 1.8-liter engine and automatic transmission. Consumes in the range of 10-11 liters per 100 km, I fill in the 95th design. The car looks stylish, sporty and to some extent presentable. On the Galant, it's not a shame to park at some Bentley, although why should be ashamed, because Galant is almost a business class.
  • Dmitry, Orenburg. I'm happy with the car, I got a supported Mitsubishi Galant. The car was produced in 2005, in excellent condition, albeit with a mileage of 100 thousand km. I bought it in 2015, in two years I dashed off another 40 thousand km. Cool car, very roomy, and fast enough, not even the background of more modern competitors. The 1.8-liter engine is still capable of piling up. Acceleration to hundreds in 10 seconds, top speed under 200 km / h, and average fuel consumption at the level of 10 liters.

With 2.0 engine

  • Alexander, Stavropol Territory. Mitsubishi Galant is a legendary car, I work on it in a taxi. For these purposes, this car is the most suitable option. Despite its age, the car does not annoy with breakdowns, it is serviced only by dealers. I am the second owner, for eight years of operation I have changed only the gearbox. As for consumables, it goes without saying. Filters, oils, gasoline - I fill in and change them in a timely manner, according to the regulations. The car is still maintained, and you need to look after it like any other technique. I have a Galant with a two-liter engine, consumes a maximum of 12 liters / 100 km.
  • Yaroslav, Moscow region Galant is an ideal transport for family needs. In addition, the car is used to work in a taxi, where it can be said to be an irreplaceable option that replaced my VAZ-2107. In the city I fit into 11 liters per 100 km, a 2-liter engine with mechanics is installed under the hood.
  • Oleg, Irkutsk. I would like to praise Galant for good visibility, impenetrable suspension, powerful engine and decent dynamics. There is plenty of space in the cabin, you can fall apart even five of us. Average consumption 11-12 liters.
  • Dmitry, Orenburg. I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Galant equipped with a two-liter engine. Its dynamics are enough to accelerate to the first hundred in 10 seconds. Maximum speed at the level of 200-210 km / h. The salon is spacious at the level of the D-class. The car is reliable, does not annoy with breakdowns. In addition, it is maintainable and cheap to maintain. In the city I fit into 10-12 liters, depending on the nature of driving.
  • Maxim, Bryansk. I liked the car, I have been driving Galante for the second year. So far, I have not regretted that I bought a supported Japanese. At the moment, the mileage is 120 thousand km, all repair work - mainly on trifles, is carried out at the dealership. I am not a master-lover, and I rely on qualified people who know a lot about this business. The car is equipped with a 2.0 engine and an automatic machine, the consumption in the city is at the level of 12 liters.
  • Mikhail, Krasnodar Territory. I have been using Galant for 15 years, and I am not going to sell it yet. I'm already used to the car, I drive with comfort and do not complain about the reliability of this Japanese miracle. Studied it to the holes, for this I have my own garage. I buy only used parts, new parts are useless - they are expensive these days and you won't find them. Of course, Galant breaks down, and quite often. Any technique will fail someday, even Japanese. But in general, I am satisfied with the car, Galant costs me cheap, the main costs are only for gasoline. By the way, a 2-liter engine with a gun consumes 11-12 liters.

With engine 2.4

  • Ekaterina, Tambov. I have a Mitsubishi Galant with a 2.4-liter petrol engine. Good quality aspirated, time-tested. For 170 thousand runs, this 150-horsepower never failed, but the reliability of the suspension leaves much to be desired. In the city I fit into 12 liters / 100 km. The car consumes 95th gasoline. Galant is a worthy representative of its class. It's a shame that it was taken out of production. I would buy the next generation, and so far I drive the old man.
  • Nikolay, Moscow. I have a 2000 Galant, with a 2.4 engine and a gun. A powerful and sturdy car, I drive it for 14-15 hours a day. The sedan drove 130 thousand km without any serious accidents, and thus proved its reliability. In the urban cycle I keep within 11-12 liters.
  • Yuri, Taganrog. The car is quite satisfactory, by the way, I have been looking for an inexpensive business-class sedan for a long time. I did not want to buy a new Volga, in the end the choice fell on the supported Galant. I am satisfied with the car, the dynamics and handling are all at a high level. Consumption 12 liters.
  • Alexander, Peter. Mitsubishi Galant is a standing car, it still looks up-to-date. With its 2.4-liter engine, you can fire up to the full, especially at traffic lights. In general, a kind of city lighter for every day. Consumes from 10 to 13 liters, I fill in the AI-95.
  • Vasily, Orenburg. Comfortable and, most importantly, high-quality car. Galant was advised to me by friends, by the way, one druzhban had exactly the same. The car is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine. The engine produces an acceptable 165 horses, which allows it to accelerate to 220 km / h. Excellent dynamics and handling, there is nothing to be surprised at - Mitsubishi has never had any problems with this. City consumption at the level of 12 liters.
  • Pavel, Bryansk. Cool car, optimal transport for every day. From 2005 to 2015, Galant drove 160 thousand km. He was doing well to the last, until I broke him. It was a solid car, a fond memory of him. Consumption 10-12 liters.
  • Margarita, Yekaterinoslavl. The car is what you need, serviced in the garage, and even then only on trifles. No major breakdowns, I go and do not complain - I sat down and went as they say. Galant handles well and is also well adapted to our rough roads. The 2.4-liter engine consumes 10-13 liters, depending on the nature of the ride.

With 2.5 engine

  • Maxim, Pyatigorsk. I have had a Mitsubishi Galant since 2004. I service the wheelbarrow in a timely manner, I never miss the passage of MOT, I buy only original spare parts - this is my recipe for the vitality of my car. The wheelbarrow has never broken down, despite the different operating conditions. I have a 2.5-liter version with an automatic transmission. Brisk acceleration and excellent handling. The suspension is moderately energy-intensive, although sometimes there are breakdowns - all the same, the chassis is tuned rigidly to exclude roll in corners. In short, a kind of compromise between comfort and handling.
  • Denis, Nizhny Novgorod. Galant impressed me from the first day of the trip. The car looks brutal and sporty, and behaves the same way on the road. This is one of the few cars about which we can say with confidence - appearance does not deceive. The 2.5-liter naturally aspirated loves revs, which is very good. Fuel consumption in the city is 12 liters, on the highway I fit into 8-10 liters.
  • Nina, Perm Territory. Galant is the best car in terms of power and performance. The 2.5-liter engine is not new, but it allows you to confidently keep in city traffic, even with a margin. And besides, the engine is very economical and reliable, in the city the consumption reaches 12 liters.
  • Mikhail, Kazan. My Galant is equipped with top-end equipment. The 2.5-liter engine endows the sedan with tremendous accelerating potential, with which you feel almost at the top - I overtake everyone in the city and at traffic lights. And on the track, you can appreciate the Mitsubishi Galant's first-class ride. All the same, it is not in vain that the car belongs to the business class, on a par with the Toyota Camry. For 2005, the car looks decent, and is able to give odds to any competitor. The average consumption is 12 liters, and when the pedal is constantly pressed to the floor, it reaches 13 liters.

Generation 9

With engine 2.4

  • Dmitry, Novosibirsk. Galant is surprisingly well adapted to cold conditions, and is not afraid of bad roads. The engine starts with half a turn, and works properly without any special worries. A 2.4-liter petrol engine consumes 14-15 liters per 100 km. I was glad that such a luxurious business sedan "loves" 92nd gasoline.
  • Mikhail, Moscow. Great car, ideal for daily commutes and long journeys. In the cabin, there is a margin of space - both in the front and in the back. There are plenty of functions, but still not at the level of modern competitors. In general, Galant was worth the money in 2012 when I bought it. I still drive, pouring 15 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers.
  • Alexey, Saratov. Mitsubishi Galant is my first business sedan, I bought it on the secondary market. Before him I drove a GAZ-3110, after which I wanted a real premium car even more, albeit with some reservations. My Galant is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and consumes from 11 to 15 liters, depending on the nature of the ride.
  • Anton, Lipetsk. Acquired Mitsubishi Galant in 2004 to replace GAZ-31105. I am a district official, I needed an inexpensive and comfortable car with a personal driver. From the passenger's point of view, I like the car. Rides softly, there are almost no holes in the suspension, well, except for speed bumps. The sedan is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine producing 158 horses. In the city, we fit into 14 liters per hundred, it is possible to refuel with 92-m gasoline. I still drive Galante, though I had to change three drivers already. The car is not new, but still reliable. Served regularly at the dealership.
  • Dmitry, Irkutsk. Satisfied with the car, an ideal car for family and work needs. I am a private entrepreneur looking for an inexpensive business-class sedan. In the mid-2000s, Galant was one of the cheapest cars in this class. I read reviews about him - everyone writes that it is reliable and perfectly adapted for Russian conditions. I was convinced of this in practice, after 20 thousand runs. My Galant is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and an automatic transmission. Consumption in the city at the level of 14-15 liters, I refuel with 92nd gasoline.
  • Oleg, Minsk. I have a 2011 Galant, with a powerful 2.4-liter aspirated engine. Perhaps this is the best representative of its class. The car, as they say, without show-off, looks strict and presentable. In addition, there is nothing to catch the eye in the cabin either - I have a basic version, which does not even have a central display. But for me, handling and dynamics are more important, and with this Galant is in complete order. Acceleration to hundreds in 11 seconds, average consumption of 14 liters.
  • Denis, Magnitogorsk. The car gives me pleasure for the whole day, I drive it for 14-15 hours. The car is used in an elite taxi, my clients are happy. Galant is comfortable and capable of driving fast, fortunately the 2.4-liter engine is capable of a lot. Consumes up to 15 liters.
  • Leonid, Bryansk. In 2017, my Galant turns 10 years old, during which time the car has shown itself to be on the good side. Fast and reliable, with a full-fledged five-seater saloon and a huge trunk. With a 2.4 engine, it consumes from 12 to 14 l / 100 km.
  • Karina. Sochi. I liked the car, it's worth the money. Powerful and comfortable, level of reliability. Consumption 14 liters, pouring 92nd gasoline.
Alexey, Dnepropetrovsk. I have a Galant since 2010, a 2.4 liter version with a gun. I would like to praise the car for its decent dynamics for the business class, impenetrable suspension, minimal roll in corners, functional interior and good handling. City consumption is 14 liters.
