To reset the AREA mode: To ensure an even room climate, the AREA (zone conditioning) mode sets the direction of the horizontal air flow, which changes automatically depending on the readings of the i-see floor/wall temperature sensor. By quickly conditioning the desired area, comfort levels are also increased and energy is saved. To set AREA mode options: ■ Press the button. PLASMA AIR REFRESH AND PLASMA AIR CLEANING To change the direction of the airflow so that it does not hit you directly. The PLASMA mode is used when you want to eliminate an unpleasant smell (for example, the smell of tobacco smoke) or purify the air in the room (remove dust, pollen and other allergens). To change the airflow direction When to use this function? Pressing the VANE button for 2 seconds or more will reverse the horizontal vane and move it to the horizontal position. Use this function when you do not want the air from the indoor unit to blow directly on you. Depending on the shape of the room, the air may directly hit you. Press the VANE button again to return the damper to the previously set position. Horizontal position COOL/DRY mode HEAT mode The air conditioner starts to cool or dry the air about 3 minutes after the louver is set to the horizontal position. When the VANE button is pressed again, the damper will return to the previously set position and the air conditioner will operate in cooling or dry mode after about 3 minutes. The air conditioner starts heating the air approximately 3 minutes after the damper is set to the horizontal position. Sometimes the air above the floor may not warm up. For floor heating, set the horizontal damper to (AUTO) or down. When you press the VANE button again, the damper will return to the previously set position and the air conditioner will start operating in heating mode after about 3 minutes. NOTE: VANE If you change the direction of the air flow with the button so that it does not hit you directly, the compressor stops for about 3 minutes even when the air conditioner is running. The air conditioner operates at reduced airflow until the compressor is restarted. ■ To change the direction of the AIRFLOW to the horizontal direction, press the button. Perform the following operations when the air conditioner is in MANUAL COOL mode. ■ Press the ECONO COOL button WHEN YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE THE AIR CONDITIONER FOR A LONG TIME When you are going to turn off the air conditioner for a long time: 1 . When the (ECONO COOL) function is selected in COOL mode, the air conditioner operates in vertical swing mode with a variable cycle that depends on the temperature of the air conditioner. This sets the SET TEMPERATURE 2°C higher than in COOL mode. To turn off the ECONO COOL function (energy saving when cooling): Press the button again. ■ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ Run the air conditioner for 3 or 4 hours on FAN (fan) mode to dry internal parts of the device. To turn on the FAN (fan) mode, set the maximum temperature on the remote control to MANUAL COOL (COOLING). (See page 183.) 2 ECONO COOL VANE FAN TOO WARM TOO COOL , or and ON/OFF timer The buttons (explained below) remain active. What is the “ECONO COOL” (energy saving cooling) function? Swinging airflow (changing airflow direction) brings a feeling of extra freshness compared to constant airflow. Thus, even though the set temperature setting is 2°C higher, you experience a comfortable feeling when the appliance is in cooling mode. As a result, you can save energy. TIMER OPERATION (ON/OFF TIMER) 1 2 3 CAUTION: If you are not going to use the air conditioner for a long time, turn off the power breaker or unplug the power cord from the outlet. Otherwise, dirt may accumulate and cause a fire. 3 Remove the batteries from the remote control. Clean the air filter and install it in the indoor unit. (See page 188 for filter cleaning instructions.) Turn off the mains breaker and/or unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. If the button is pressed during the ECONO COOL (energy saving cooling) function, the ECONO COOL (energy saving cooling) function is turned off. When you are going to turn on the air conditioner after a long break: Make sure that the air inlet and outlet of the indoor/outdoor units are not blocked by foreign objects. Check for proper ground connections. CAUTION: Ground the instrument. Do not connect ground wires to gas and water pipes, lightning rods, or to the telephone network ground cable. Improper grounding of the instrument may result in electric shock. CAUTION: To prevent the batteries from leaking liquid, remove them from the remote control if you are not going to use the remote control for a long time. It is more convenient to set the timer for the time when you go to bed, when you return home, when you get up in the morning, etc. How to set the ON timer 1 Press the button in operation. START when the air conditioner How to set the OFF timer 1 Each time this button is pressed, the ON timer switches between ON and OFF. 2 Set the timer time using the TIME (Forward) and (Previous) buttons. ■ Press the START button. STOP 2 Before cleaning the appliance Set the timer time using the TIME (Forward) and (Back) buttons. STOP. How to program the timer operation The ON timer and the OFF timer can be used in combination. The timer whose set time comes first will fire first. (The “ ” icon indicates the order in which the timer will operate.) If the current time is not set, the timer cannot be used. NOTES: If a power outage or power failure occurs while the AUTO START/STOP timer is in operation, the timer settings will be disabled. Since these models are equipped with an automatic restart function, the air conditioner starts up with the timer off as soon as the power is restored. ■ Turn off the mains breaker and/or unplug the power cord from the outlet. CAUTION: Before cleaning the appliance, turn off the appliance and unplug the power cord or turn off the mains breaker. Because the fan blades rotate at high speed, injury may result. Cleaning the indoor unit ■ Clean the unit with a dry soft cloth. In case of heavy soiling, wipe the device with a cloth moistened with a solution of mild detergent diluted in lukewarm water. Do not use gasoline, ether, polishing powders and insecticides. Their use may damage the device. The front panel may come off if it is raised above its normal horizontal position. When detaching the front panel, see step 3 in CLEANING THE FRONT PANEL. 187 CLEANING THE FRONT PANEL, HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT AND FAN Front panel 1 Heat exchanger Press and release the handles on both sides of the front panel and lift the panel until it clicks into place. (1) While holding the hinges, lift the panel up to a horizontal position and pull the hinges forward to remove the front panel. (2) ■ Heat exchanger Hinge Hole CAUTION: Do not drop the front panel or use excessive force to separate it. This may damage it. When removing or installing the front panel, use only stable benches. Otherwise, the panel may fall, resulting in injury, etc. Make sure the metal bar (silver) that is visible when the front panel is open is not bent. This may cause a malfunction or abnormal sound during operation. Wipe the front panel with a soft, dry (or dampened with water) cloth. When washing the panel, wipe it dry with a soft, dry cloth and leave to dry out of direct sunlight. If dirt is visible, wipe the front panel with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent diluted in warm water. Do not use benzine, thinners, scouring powders or insecticides, and do not wipe the front panel with rough brushes or sponges. Do not soak the front panel in cold or warm water for more than two hours, and do not expose it to the sun in warm places or near open flames. Doing so may cause the panel to warp or fade. Hold the front panel by the ends and keeping it in a horizontal position, insert the hinges into the holes on the top of the indoor unit until it clicks into place. Then carefully close the front panel and apply pressure at the three points of the front panel indicated by the arrows. 188 1 To remove the anti-mold air filter, lift the filter while holding its handle, and then pull it down. Anti-mould air filter 2 3 Cleaning the anti-mould filters (once every approx. 2 weeks) Before cleaning the heat exchanger, remove the anti-mould filters and the PLASMA AIR FRESH/CLEANER filter units. 1 2 CLEANING THE AIR FILTER You can clean the surface of the heat exchanger by attaching the brush from the QUICK CLEAN KIT to the vacuum cleaner. For detailed cleaning instructions, refer to the manual of the QUICK CLEAN KIT (packed with the outdoor unit). WARNING: Do not touch the heat exchanger with your hands. You may receive damage. (We recommend that you wear gloves to protect your hands.) CAUTION: Do not stand on the unstable stand when cleaning. You may fall and be injured. Use only the brush from the QUICK CLEAN KIT. Do not use other attachments. Otherwise, you may damage the heat exchanger or the indoor unit. NOTE: The accessories in the QUICK CLEAN KIT can be installed on a vacuum cleaner with a hose/pipe diameter (inside diameter) between 32mm and 39mm. Refer to the QUICK CLEAN KIT instructions supplied with the outdoor unit. Fan See page 190 for cleaning the fan. Remove. 3 After washing the filter with water/warm water, dry the filter out of direct sunlight. When drying, do not expose the mold filter to direct sunlight or expose the filter to heat from an open flame. Open the front panel and remove/replace the filter. CAUTION: When removing the mold filter, do not touch the metal parts of the indoor unit. Doing so may result in damage. 2 Remove dirt from the anti-mould air filter with a vacuum cleaner or by washing the filter with water. Do not clean with a hard brush or hard surface sponge. This may result in deformation of the filter. If heavily soiled, wash the filter in a mild detergent diluted in lukewarm water. When using hot water (above 50°C), the filter may be deformed. 4 Install the anti-mould air filter. (Carefully install its latches.) Reinstall. CLEANING THE PLASMA FRESH/AIR PURIFYING FILTERS When the PLASMA/WASH indicator flashes, clean the filters as soon as possible. The indicator starts flashing after the total operating time of 330 hours has been exceeded. 1 Install the PLASMA FRESH/AIR PURIFIER filter units following the removal instructions in reverse order. 1 BEFORE CLEANING Turn off the indoor unit with the remote controller and unplug the power cord from the outlet and/or turn off the switch. Otherwise, you may be damaged because the PLASMA FRESH/AIR CLEANING filter units are under high voltage. INSTALLATION 2 Remove the anti-mould air filters. 2 3 4 3 Hold the handles on both sides of the front panel and lift the panel to a horizontal position. Remove the PLASMA FRESH/AIR CLEANING filter unit. 5 6 7 CLEANING 1 Clean the filter surfaces with a vacuum cleaner or rinse with water. After cleaning, leave the filters in warm water at a temperature of 30 to 40°C for 10-15 minutes. (To remove stubborn stains, clean the filters in a mild aqueous solution of alkaline detergent.) The ceramic refresh filter inside the PLASMA REFRESH filter unit is fragile, so handle it with care. Clean the filter without removing it from the filter unit. (Details of the ceramic refresh filter are on the right.) 2 After soaking the filter units, shake them horizontally and vertically and rinse under running water. Shake off any remaining water. To remove stubborn stains such as oil and nicotine stains, repeat the above procedures two or three times. 3 Dry the units by hanging them in a shady, well-ventilated area. If you cannot hang the filter units, arrange them as shown in the following figure. NOTE: If the PLASMA DEODORIZING/AIR PURIFYING filter units are immersed in water for cleaning, the filter shell may turn white, but this does not affect performance or quality. Keep using these filter blocks. Do not use detergents containing bleach. Do not disassemble the PLASMA FRESH/AIR CLEANING filter units. Do not dry the PLASMA FRESH/AIR CLEANING units with hot air from a hair dryer or other devices. (If exposed to hot air, the filter unit may be deformed.) PLASMA FRESH/AIR PURIFICATION filter units can only be installed when completely dry. If the filter unit is wet, the PLASMA/WASH (plasma/cleaning) indicator will flash and the PLASMA (plasma) function will turn off. 1 Install the PLASMA AIR FRESH/PURIFIER filter units into the hole in the plasma element holder. The PLASMA FRESH/AIR CLEANING filter units must be pushed in until they click into place. If the PLASMA FRESH/AIR PURIFICATION filter units are installed incorrectly, the front panel will not close. Plasma element holder 5 Install anti-mold filter. E.O. SW Plug in the power cord and/or turn on the switch. Press the WASH reset switch. A short beep will sound and the PLASMA/WASH indicator will stop flashing. When you turn on the air conditioner again, check that the PLASMA/WASH indicator is not blinking. 7 WASH reset Holding both ends of the front panel, close the panel. Press in the three places on the front panel indicated by the arrows. REPLACING THE PLASMA REFRESH FILTER (CERAMIC REFRESH FILTER) Replacing the ceramic refresh filter (once every 6 years or so) The ceramic refresh filter is installed in the PLASMA REFRESH filter unit. The filter is made of fragile material. Handle it with care. 4 1 CAUTION: If the ceramic refresh filter is not installed, the PLASMA REFRESH filter unit may not function properly. Make sure the ceramic refresh filter is installed. The ceramic refresh filter must be disposed of in accordance with the disposal regulations in force in your area. (Main material: ceramic) 2 Open the two handles to open the filter unit. To remove, pull the handles outward and then forward as shown in the following figure. 1 2 3 Pull out the ceramic refresh filter from the side of the filter unit. Installation of the ceramic refreshing filter is carried out in the reverse order of its removal. If the air inlet or fan is covered in dirt, mold, or dust, clean it with a damp or dry soft cloth or the QUICK CLEAN KIT brush attached to the vacuum cleaner. If dirt buildup is noticeable near the air inlet, clean it with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent diluted in warm water. For detailed cleaning operations using the QUICK CLEAN KIT brush, refer to the QUICK CLEAN KIT manual (packed with the outdoor unit). Do not use gasoline, petrol or sanding powder. Do not apply excessive force to the fan. Otherwise, it may be damaged. Cleaning 1 2 Hold the handles on both sides of the front panel and lift the panel to a horizontal position. While holding both ends of the horizontal vane, pull it out by hand towards you and check that the fan has stopped. Clean the air outlet and fan of the indoor unit. (Make sure the fan has stopped.) 6 Replace the vertical vanes one by one. 2 To install the vertical vane 1 Hold the tabs of each vertical vane and install the vanes into their slots. press it until it clicks. Down. 3 Remove the horizontal flap. Hold the horizontal vane while releasing the latches. Groove When installing the vertical vanes, hold onto the slats, otherwise the vanes may be damaged. Do not apply excessive force to the fan grill during this operation. The fan grille can be deformed and the dampers will not work properly. Install the vertical vanes to their original positions. Otherwise, condensation may drip from the indoor unit or the horizontal vane may not work properly. Follow steps 1 and 2 to remove the horizontal vane. Right Unlock.
