Today, crossovers occupy approximately 10% of the total volume of foreign cars sold on the secondary market, and this share is constantly growing (plus 8% in 2010). In fact, the picture follows the path of development of the new car market with a lag of two to three years.

Crossovers became a separate class recently - five or six years ago, although many models existed before. Thus, the Honda CR-V was classified as an all-terrain vehicle, and the Pontiac Vibe was considered a station wagon.

Used SUVs are not inferior in popularity to new ones. Let us remind you that the conversation concerns the Moscow region - other places have their own preferences.

1. The undisputed leader of the current review is. The car is damn reliable. One can, perhaps, only find fault with specimens that have been in serious accidents. Most of the cars were produced in 2001–2005 and have covered 70–140 thousand kilometers. There are options with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. About 85% of "ravchiki" have a 2-liter gasoline engine (158 hp) and an automatic transmission, but it is not difficult to find other versions: with gasoline units from 1.8 to 3.5 liters (from 125 to 269 hp . respectively) and 2.2 liter diesel engines (134 and 175 hp), which are combined with various gearboxes. The RAV4 is already well-equipped: all popular security systems, power accessories, music and air conditioning are available. There are options with cruise and climate control, rain and light sensors, parking sensors and a navigator.

2. attracts with one of the most comfortable interiors in the class; thanks to its considerable width, sitting in it is very comfortable. A myriad of drawers, shelves and niches adds coziness, allowing you to maintain relative order inside. The age (and price) range is quite impressive; the most common are 1998–2007 models with a mileage of 80–200 thousand kilometers. The cars offer exclusively all-wheel drive (with an automatically engaged rear axle), although there are also American versions with single-axle drive. The bulk are equipped with a 2-liter 150-horsepower engine and automatic transmission, but there are also other gasoline engines: from 2.0 l (150 hp) to 2.4 l (166 hp), as well as 2.2 -liter diesel (140 hp). The usual set of options includes brake force distribution (EBD), anti-lock braking system (ABS) and anti-skid system (VSA), eight airbags, air conditioning, power accessories and music. They note the increased demands of the machine on the characteristics of engine oil and consumables.

3. - perhaps the best offer in terms of workmanship and comfort. However, it is an order of magnitude more expensive than other cars and does not become cheaper over time, which prevents it from taking a leading position in the sales ranking. The engines (gasoline only) are also the most voluminous: from 2.7 liters (188 hp) to 4.5 liters (249 hp) as part of a hybrid installation. All cars are equipped exclusively with an automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission similar to that found on the RAV4. The easiest models to find on sale are the RX 300 (204 hp) and RX 330 (230 hp) from 1999–2004, which have covered 100–180 thousand kilometers. The equipment corresponds to the class of the car: bi-xenon headlights, light sensor, heated windshield, electrically adjustable seats with memory, all kinds of active and passive safety systems, including a knee airbag for the passenger! There's also standard navigation, front and rear parking sensors and more.

4. Buyers appreciate the reliable motors and high build quality - complaints are extremely rare. Engines for every taste: gasoline, from 2.0 l (140 hp) to 2.5 l (169 hp), and diesel, 2.0 l (140 and 150 hp) and 2 .2 l (114 and 136 hp). 60% of cars are equipped with automatic transmission. The most widely represented models are those manufactured in 2004–2008, with a mileage of 60–110 thousand kilometers. The equipment is standard for crossovers: dynamic stabilization systems, brake force distribution and anti-lock braking systems, power accessories, six airbags, climate control, heated front seats. Demand for the model is not too high (fifth place in the sales ranking), but stable.

5., which occupies fourth or fifth place in the review, is presented here in two generations - the “Outlander” itself and the “Outlander XL”. If you're looking for a car made after 2008, you'll likely find the XL, although both models were produced simultaneously for a time. In general, this name hides a relatively inexpensive car, quite roomy and with good cross-country ability. However, like many other “Japanese” cars, it has poor sound insulation, which is especially noticeable on cars imported from the USA. Cars are found on the market with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, gasoline - from 2 liters (136 hp) to 3 liters (223 hp) - and 2-liter diesel (136 hp). The vast majority were produced in 2003–2007 (80% with a 2.4 liter, 170 hp engine) and covered 80–120 thousand kilometers. The basic equipment is not rich: anti-lock braking system, brake force distribution system, two airbags, power accessories and climate control. The maximum version adds bi-xenon headlights, leather interior, tinted windows and four airbags.

6. can have very different origins. These crossovers were brought from Korea and Europe, many of them were assembled in Kaliningrad. In general, there are few complaints, and the shortcomings have been corrected in later modifications. Most often you can find “Sportages” produced in 2005–2008, with a mileage of 80–130 thousand kilometers. Almost all of them have a 2-liter gasoline engine (142 hp), manual and automatic transmissions are presented in a 50:50 ratio. There are also gasoline engines with volumes from 2.0 l (95 hp) to 2.4 l (176 hp) and diesel engines - from 1.7 l (115 hp) to 2.0 l ( 184 hp). The car can have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with an electro-hydraulic clutch. Typically, the package includes electrical accessories, an alarm system, six airbags, an anti-lock braking system, a rain sensor, and air conditioning.

7. The vast majority of crossovers are imported from the USA; copies purchased from domestic dealers are practically never found on the secondary market. Consequently, all-wheel drive cars cannot be found here, only front-wheel drive. Despite the typically masculine design, they are most often purchased by women. All cars have a 2.0 l engine (156 hp) and an automatic transmission, although theoretically there are other versions: with gasoline engines from 1.8 l (150 hp) to 2.4 l (174 l .hp) and a 2.0 l diesel engine (140 hp). Mostly cars from 2006–2008, with a mileage of 30–80 thousand kilometers, are up for sale. The basic version includes climate and cruise control, two airbags, power accessories, a dynamic stabilization system and an anti-lock braking system. The additionally packaged cars are also equipped with side airbags, heated seats, leather interior trim, and an electric sunroof.

8. - a good car in terms of quality and off-road capabilities, close in characteristics to the Nissan X-Trail. Buyers are primarily attracted by the economical 2-liter (112 hp) diesel engine. It is not without its sin: in severe frosts, the control electronics often fail. There are also gasoline engines from 2.0 liters (140 hp) to 2.7 liters (173 hp). Drive type is front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, connected via a friction clutch. Most of the cars are manufactured in 2006–2008, with a mileage of 50–110 thousand kilometers. In 70% of cases - with automatic transmission. The package includes a dynamic stabilization system and anti-lock braking system, air conditioning, electrical accessories, and airbags. In addition, the car can be equipped with light and rain sensors, climate and cruise control, parking sensors, leather upholstery and xenon headlights.

9., created by the joint efforts of GM and Toyota specialists, absorbed the best qualities of the models of each concern: excellent quality and low cost of service. There are both front- and all-wheel drive options on the market, usually equipped with an automatic transmission. The engines are exclusively gasoline, with volumes ranging from 1.8 liters (124 hp) to 2.4 liters (158 hp). The bulk of the cars were manufactured in 2003–2008, with 40–90 thousand kilometers on the odometer. The equipment is modest: airbags, air conditioning, cruise control and power accessories. Less common are options with dynamic stabilization and anti-lock braking systems, light and rain sensors, heated seats and parking sensors.

10. is known in two guises, differing mainly in passenger capacity. The seven-seater Qashqai+2 is poorly represented on the secondary market - apparently, it has not become sufficiently outdated. However, the regular Qashqai is quite young: cars from 2007–2009, with a mileage of 50–90 thousand kilometers, rule the roost. Approximately 60% have a 2.0 liter gasoline engine (140 hp) and an automatic transmission (more precisely, a CVT). There is also a 1.6 liter petrol engine (114 hp) and a pair of diesel engines: 1.5 liter (106 hp) and 2.0 liter (150 hp). Cars come in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (with a plug-in rear axle). The standard equipment includes power accessories, eight airbags, air conditioning, heated front seats, systems: anti-lock braking, dynamic stabilization, brake force distribution. A city car, you should think carefully before venturing off-road.

Head of Marketing Department at Formula 91 Mikhail Lezzhov

The first crossovers (CUVs) in the world appeared in the mid-90s of the 20th century; the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V models are considered the founders of this category of vehicles.

Now off-road passenger cars are at the peak of popularity, and there are a lot of different brands in the world. Choosing the best crossover is not an easy task; a lot depends on what the buyer wants from the car and what criteria he uses to make his choice.

The best crossover of 2016: price-quality

A crossover differs from a full-fledged SUV primarily in that while it has off-road qualities, it also has the characteristics of a passenger car, and therefore it is convenient to drive not only over rough terrain, but also around the city. Cars in the CUV category are produced by manufacturers in different countries; crossovers differ in size (they are compact and mid-size), level of equipment, technical characteristics, and quality of finish. There are budget and premium cars, popular brands and little-known companies, so it’s impossible to say unequivocally that any particular CUV car is the best. It should also be taken into account that each country has its own model range of crossovers on the automobile market, and the rating is compiled depending on the region.

Toyota Rav4, Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai models are considered relatively inexpensive, and at the same time very high-quality cars. Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5, Renault Duster can claim the title of “The best crossover of 2016: price-quality” among medium-sized models.

The best crossover of 2017: price-quality

Recently, compact crossovers have been in greatest demand - despite their relatively small sizes, they have off-road qualities and a high level of comfort, so they are successfully used both in the city and on country trips to the country, to the forest, hunting or fishing. The most popular compact CUV models in 2017 are Mitsubishi ASX, Skoda Yeti, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson. Demand for the Toyota RAV4 almost never subsides, and this car can easily claim the title of “Best Crossover of 2016: Price-Quality.”

The fourth-generation restyled RAV4 model has been produced since October 2016; in the basic configuration, the car costs approximately 1.2-1.3 million rubles. The front-wheel drive 2WD Classic version of the Toyota RAV4 crossover has the following options:

  • seven airbags;
  • ABS/ HHC/ ASR/ ESP/ EBD/ EBA systems;
  • electric windows;
  • electric mirrors;
  • air conditioner;
  • multifunction steering wheel;
  • on-board computer;
  • Central locking with immobilizer;
  • heated front seats and side mirrors.

In other trim levels, the car is more expensive, for example, with the Prestige Plus equipment, the RAV4 will cost about 2 million rubles.

In terms of their technical characteristics and degree of comfort, the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover, Ford Kuga, and Suzuki SX4 in a new body are considered very good models. You can also pay attention to the premium car BMW X6, although its cost is much more expensive - the price starts from four million rubles.

The Russian rating of the most popular crossovers is somewhat different from the European one, and, of course, price is of great importance in Russia. Also, to a large extent, the demand and purchasing power of Russians was influenced by the fact that over the past year the situation on the automobile market has changed - some models have become noticeably more expensive, and some have simply disappeared from the Russian market. For example, the Suzuki New SX4 is no longer imported to Russia, and Ssang Yong and Mitsubishi ASX cars have ceased to be supplied.

It is likely that Nissan Juke will no longer be sold in car dealerships, but recently Chinese compact SUVs are beginning to be in increasing demand. “Chinese” compare favorably with their “brothers” in price, while the quality of Chinese automotive products is getting better every year. It is possible that the prize “Best crossover for Russia: price-quality” may go to the Lifan X60 after some time, but for this the Chinese company still needs to work thoroughly on quality. Quite often, Russian consumers began to pay attention to another Chinese nonsense - Brilliance V5, and AvtoVAZ finally pleased Russians with the first Lada Xray crossover.

In Russia, the most popular crossovers are still considered to be the Toyota RAV4 and Renault Duster; the Korean Hyundai IX35, Kia Sportage, and Mazda CX-5 are also included in the ranking. The top ten most popular off-road vehicles also includes the Chevrolet Niva, but this model can rather be classified as a compact SUV; the Mitsubishi Outlander still enjoys great success in our country. Since the end of 2015, the Hyundai IX35 is no longer sold in Russia; this crossover has been replaced by the Hyundai Tussan.

The best summer tires for crossovers in 2017

The condition of the tires for a crossover is of great importance - the vehicle's handling, and therefore driving safety, depends on the quality of the car's grip on the road. Car tires are changed as they wear out, and it is recommended to replace old tires with new ones once every three years. To a large extent, the condition of the tires is influenced by the mileage traveled by the wheels, but it should be taken into account that rubber still tends to age over time.

What summer tires are considered the best for crossovers in 2017? Summer tires Kormoran Gamma B2 are a relatively new product; they have recently appeared on the market. The tires are characterized by high performance, with them the car becomes well controlled on a wet slippery road and provides reliable grip on any road surface. Another plus of Kormoran rubber is its aesthetic appearance; it makes the crossover look aggressive and solid.

Hankook tires are also very popular; in particular, the Kinergy Eco model is considered a very good tire. We can’t help but mention Michelin Energy wheels – they are relatively inexpensive, but very high quality. Also, many car owners of crossovers and SUVs like tires from the manufacturers Toyo and Bridgestone, and, of course, we cannot forget about Nokian Hakka Blue, Pirelli Cinturato P7, Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance tires.

So which tires are best for a crossover in the summer? It is not at all easy to answer this question, and the opinions of car owners often do not coincide. The results of tests and ratings should not be blindly trusted, and tires should be purchased depending on the climatic conditions and the terrain in which the car will be used. For example, if the crossover often drives through rural areas in high humidity conditions, you should purchase high-profile tires with a “frequent” tread pattern. It is also good to use a high profile on rough roads with a lot of holes and potholes - high tires will protect the rims from damage.

In dry climates and around the city, low-profile tires with a “rare” pattern are suitable. Another rare and pronounced tread pattern is good for off-road use - an SUV with it overcomes obstacles well, and dirt does not clog into the pores of the tread.

Chinese cars are becoming more and more confident in the Russian market, and recently in our country not only passenger cars from the Middle Kingdom, but also crossovers have begun to go on sale.

The Lifan X60 was first introduced to the world in 2011, and since 2012, the assembly of the well-known car model has been established in the city of Cherkessk. At the Derways plant, not only the crossover is assembled, it also carries out welding and painting of body parts and the body itself.

Since 2014, another Chinese compact SUV, Brilliance V5, has been produced; the car has a strong external resemblance to the BMW X1 model. This machine is equipped with two types of power units:

  • atmospheric gasoline engine 1.6 l (110 hp);
  • turbodiesel 1.5 l (131 hp).

The transmission of this car is a five-speed manual transmission and 5-speed. Automatic transmission, the model is available only in an all-wheel drive version (4X4). The two above-mentioned brands (Lifan and Brilliance) can undoubtedly be classified as the best Chinese crossovers presented on the Russian market.

Chinese automobile companies are developing very dynamically and never cease to amaze the whole world. The Lifan concern plans to sell the new CUV X80 in Russia. This flagship SUV will be equipped with a two-liter turbodiesel engine producing 200 hp. With. and petrol engine 2.4 l 165 l. p., there is already a photo of the new brand on the Internet.

The 2017 model range includes Chinese crossovers of the following models:

  • Haval H9 (clone of the Japanese frame SUV Land Cruiser Prado);
  • Brilliance V3 (“younger brother” of V5, differs from the “older” model in its compactness);
  • BYD Tang (very similar to Lexus RX);
  • restyled Geely Emgrand X7 (front-wheel drive version only);
  • JAC S3 (compact crossover, first introduced in 2014).

There are many Chinese companies that produce crossovers, SUVs and SUVs of fairly good quality; the most famous in Russia are the following automakers:

  • Hawtai;
  • Lifan;
  • Brilliance;
  • Haima Automobile;
  • Chery;
  • Zotye;
  • Jiangling Motors.

All Chinese crossovers are distinguished by a very affordable price and a fairly rich set of equipment. The quality of cars from China is getting better every year, and the inexpensive price tag is increasingly attracting Russian buyers. It should be noted that cars from China are equipped with very reliable engines and transmissions, and the main disadvantage of Chinese cars is the low quality of interior materials, which, in general, does not affect the driving performance of the vehicle in any way. But the Chinese are working on the shortcomings, and this is noticeable in the new models being released on the market.

For the first time, the Togliatti-developed compact crossover Lada X-Ray was shown at the Moscow Motor Show in late summer 2012. In English, the name “x-ray” is translated as “X-ray”, but the creators encrypted the abbreviation in their own way, and if you read XRAY by letter, it turns out that the car is intended for active recreation of young people.

Model X-Ray is the first crossover in the history of VAZ, created at the enterprise. The Lada X-Ray is considered a city car, the model was launched into production at the end of 2015, and its sales started on Valentine's Day - February 14, 2016.

Will the Russian crossover be able to compete with foreign analogues? The Lada X-Ray already has one undeniable advantage - the car has a very low price, and even in the most maximum configuration its cost does not exceed 750 thousand rubles. The car is equipped with three types of gasoline engines with volumes of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, a 5-speed manual and a robotic gearbox. So far, the Russian crossover is produced only in a front-wheel drive version, but AvtoVAZ is currently working on creating an all-wheel drive car.

The Optima equipment of the Lada X-Ray is the most modest, and in this version the car is offered at a price of less than 600 thousand rubles. The basic version provides:

  • two airbags;
  • ASR, EBA, ESP, ABS, EBD systems;
  • alloy wheels R16;
  • LED headlights;
  • electric windows for front doors;
  • multifunction steering wheel;
  • on-board computer;
  • audio system with mp3 support;
  • four speakers;
  • standard alarm;
  • Central locking with immobilizer.

The maximum configuration of Top Prestige additionally includes:

  • HHC (Hill Start Assist);
  • front fog lights;
  • ESP of all doors;
  • light and rain sensors;
  • heated mirrors, windshield and front seats;
  • climate control;
  • Rear View Camera;
  • navigation device.

Another advantage of the Lada X-Ray is its good ground clearance (195 mm), which not every SUV can boast of. In general, the debut of the AvtoVAZ crossover was successful, now all that remains is to wait for new domestic developments.

A used crossover is a car that has been run-in and debugged in the operating conditions of the region. Those who believe that mileage is a big drawback of a car are deeply mistaken. Many vehicle models that rolled off the assembly line several years ago are not inferior in their technical characteristics to new models. Restyling of most cars most often includes changes in interior or exterior design, and less often revolutionary modernization of technical characteristics.

The most reliable crossover for Russia on the secondary market

The myths that Russians prefer to buy European crossovers on the secondary market are a thing of the past. Asian manufacturers have done a good job on their models intended for the Russian market over the past 10 years. They took into account the cold winters and off-road conditions of Russia in their developments. At a time when Europeans were working to improve the comfort of their cars, Asians were strengthening the suspension for the Russians. All this has led to the fact that sales volumes in the secondary market for cars such as the Ssang Yong Actyon and Hyundai Santa Fe are showing good growth rates.

The TOP crossovers on the secondary market worth up to 1 million rubles in 2015 included:

  • Lexus RX;
  • BMW X3;
  • Audi Q5;
  • Honda CR-V;
  • Toyota RAV 4;
  • Mazda CX-5;
  • Nissan Qashqai;
  • Suzuki Vitara;
  • Mitsubishi Outlander.

Lexus RX. Cars of this brand from the Toyota concern have been successfully sold in Russia for more than 17 years. They have extremely positive feedback. Many 1998-2000 models were brought to the country from the USA. It was there that the first car sales began. The “American” version of the vehicle of these years is distinguished from the “European” version by the latter’s stiffer suspension. The wheel sizes also differ. Cars, regardless of age, have good reliability. “Americans” are somewhat cheaper than “Europeans”.

The price on the secondary market for a quite decent car starts from 300 thousand rubles. The age of such a car will exceed 10 years. Offers of newer cars start from 550-600 thousand rubles.

BMW X3. The crossover of the first generation of cars of this model is sold on the secondary market at the price of a new class “B” sedan. The first crossover models were assembled in Bavaria and their quality is not inferior to new cars coming off domestic assembly lines.

The sales price on the secondary market starts from 550-600 thousand rubles. Every car enthusiast dreams of buying a premium car for that kind of money.

Audi Q5. The manufacturer released the first crossover of this brand to the mass market in 2008. The car has a stylish exterior, a comfortable interior and excellent technical characteristics. The best-selling cars of this model are equipped with a 2.0-liter engine. The smart crossover monitors the amount of oil in its unit and starts asking for it to be topped up every 1000-1500 km. This should be taken into account by those who are forced to limit their expenses for operating a car.

Sales on the secondary market start at 850 thousand rubles.

Honda CR-V. Second-generation models of cars are very popular in the secondary market. They were mass produced in the early 2000s. The machine has good technical characteristics and is reliable in operation, but there is one significant problem. The crossover was produced in several countries and was intended for different operating conditions. The cars that came off the UK assembly line were designed specifically for the Russian market. They are fully adapted to domestic climatic conditions. You should pay special attention to this when purchasing a vehicle.

The cost of sales on the secondary market for cars under 10 years old starts from 500 thousand rubles.

Toyota RAV4. A Japanese classic that came off the assembly line more than 20 years ago. The car has virtually no negative reviews. On Russian roads you can find crossovers of this model of various years of production. They are well suited for domestic roads, are unpretentious in operation and have excellent technical characteristics.

The cost of cars under 10 years old on the secondary market starts from 550 thousand rubles.

Mazda CX-5. The car is perfectly suited for Russian roads and Russian climatic conditions, and is popular among the fair sex. The first car models appeared on the domestic market in 2011. A very convenient car for traveling. Easy to use.

The sales price on the secondary market starts from 900 thousand rubles.

Nissan Qashqai. The name of the car was given by nomadic tribes. One of the most successful models of Japanese passenger cars. All-wheel drive and high ground clearance have received well-deserved approval from Russian buyers. The car is fully adapted for domestic operating conditions. The most popular versions of the car are those with a 1.6 liter engine. It is difficult to find a car more ideally suited for Russian roads.

The sales price on the domestic secondary market for cars under 5 years old starts at 500 thousand rubles.

Suzuki Grand Vitara. Veteran of the Russian secondary market. The car model is well known and deservedly popular among domestic car enthusiasts. A very durable and unpretentious car. It has a good repair base and has a high level of reliability. Has excellent maneuverability. A real workhorse.

Sales on the secondary market of cars under 10 years old start at 400 thousand rubles.

Mitsubishi Outlander. The luxury car has been produced by the Japanese concern since 2001. Enjoys well-deserved popularity.

On the secondary market, you can buy a first-generation car from 250 thousand, a second – from 400 thousand rubles.

The most reliable crossover for Russia: what is it?

Russia is a unique country whose territory is located in different climatic zones. Operating conditions in the southern regions of the country differ significantly from the northern or eastern ones. There are a number of unconditional preferences in the technical characteristics of cars, which motorists pay attention to when purchasing crossovers for themselves. The most suitable for Russian reality were and remain domestic Niva and UAZ vehicles.

  • When choosing a car, the domestic buyer puts suspension requirements first. All-wheel drive, differential lock and low gear are one of the mandatory conditions that determine the choice of vehicle.
  • Second place in the selection criteria belongs to engine power. The fashion for strong “geldings” is being replaced by more pragmatic versions of units. The ignition system and the ability of the car to start at temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius are of great importance.

Increasingly, when choosing a crossover, an automatic transmission predominates. This is largely due to the fact that more and more women are becoming buyers of crossovers. The average Russian car buyer on the secondary market tries to fit all his desires into an amount ranging from 300 to 800 thousand rubles.

The online publication AutoSpyNews has published its next annual ranking of the best off-road cars in Russia. The SUV category is becoming increasingly popular, with sales gradually increasing, while sedans and hatchbacks are losing market share. The main reason is greater functionality and comfort in any conditions. Below are the best off-road cars and crossovers in several categories.

Reliability

The best cars in the Warranty Direct nomination were determined based on a study of several thousand insurance cases. The overall results were as follows:

Patency

Price and quality

Best Used SUVs

Not all car buyers consider used cars as a purchase. This is primarily due to uncertainty about the reliability of the vehicle. However, a used car is an opportunity to buy a full-fledged SUV for less money. Based on a number of criteria, the two best used models were identified:

The rating also includes UAZ Patriot, Great Wall Hover H3 and Nissan Terrano models. The main task for the buyer is to find a car in good condition, which is not so difficult to do given the large supply on the market.

The best SUVs in the budget category

Even if the purchase budget does not exceed 1 million rubles, you can find a high-quality new SUV. The best budget solutions on the Russian market:

Features of the development of the Russian SUV market in 2016

The automotive industry is actively producing combination models that are difficult to classify. More and more efforts are being made to ensure comfort, which is why mass-produced SUVs are experiencing worse cross-country ability. The market also has an impact - there is higher demand for cheap cars.

An inexpensive crossover is a great opportunity for Russian drivers to get a highly capable vehicle at an affordable price, which will cope perfectly with country roads, rough terrain and bad weather. It should be noted that a large number of crossovers are produced in the world today. However, only 10-15% can adapt to the harsh Russian roads. After all, in winter the car is faced with high snowdrifts, and in spring and autumn - deep puddles and mud.

Recently, crossovers have become popular due to their all-wheel drive system, excellent visibility, and significant ground clearance. And all this is complemented by the serious and solid appearance that such cars have. Naturally, its maintenance is much more expensive due to fuel consumption and a more complex design than passenger cars. Therefore, designers created simplified versions of SUVs - all-terrain vehicles. They have a monocoque body, good ground clearance for Russian roads and off-road qualities, in comparison with simple passenger cars. Moreover, the cost of such cars is lower than that of SUVs. If you want to purchase a powerful and fully equipped car on a limited budget, pay attention to used models on the secondary market.

Let's consider inexpensive crossovers that are suitable for Russian roads and will perform well in urban conditions.

Compact crossover Skoda Yeti

An economical crossover at a relatively affordable price, which is in demand among Russian drivers today. The model has many configurations, which allows each buyer to choose the one that suits them. The engines are available in three versions - 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 liters (105, 122 and 152 hp, respectively). The model is all-wheel drive only when equipped with a 1.8-liter engine. The gearbox can be manual or automatic. The basic equipment, if desired and available, can be supplemented with an on-board computer and a modern audio system.

The cost of 1 km is 7.09 rubles/km.

The advantages of the crossover are the following:

  • economical fuel consumption thanks to a 7-speed robotic gearbox that fully utilizes the engine’s potential;
  • it is inexpensive and available for service in almost all regions;
  • the ability to choose your car from 18 modifications;
  • sound insulation of the engine compartment is made of felt of different densities and microporous rubber;
  • thoughtful aerodynamics under the bottom;
  • the ability to individually regulate the air flow in the climate control system.

Yetty also has several disadvantages.:

  • the rear suspension arms are located low and therefore increase the chances of catching something under the wheels;
  • engines are demanding on the quality of gasoline and have difficulty starting if you do not follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and fill in with low-quality fuel;
  • the radiator requires protection from oncoming stones;
  • The 1.2 turbine operates at the limit of its capabilities and therefore, with constant use, its service life is reduced.

The car is considered the most economical of its class, as it consumes per 100 km:

  • 1.2 AT+MT – when driving in the city 7.9 l, on the highway – 5.9 l;
  • 1.4 AT+MT – when driving in the city 8.9 l, on the highway – 5.9 l;
  • 1.8 AT+MT – when driving in the city 10.1 liters, on the highway – 6.9 liters.

Regardless of the modification, the car has the following characteristics: a station wagon, the height of the trunk threshold is 71.2 cm, ground clearance is 18 cm, the fuel tank capacity is 60 liters. The model has an electromechanical power steering. The trunk has a volume of 410 liters.

Nissan Juke - the choice of young people

Nissan Juke is considered a relatively inexpensive and compact crossover, popular among both men and women. Its design is sporty and aggressive, and the size is not much larger than a standard hatchback. The car has several configuration options, but there are only four engines to choose from, namely 2 naturally aspirated gasoline engines, one turbodiesel and a charged turbocharged gasoline engine with 190 horsepower. Depending on the specific configuration, power can vary between 117-190 hp. The car is equipped with a manual transmission or CVT. An interesting fact is that the Juke's relative is the Nissan Micra, which is significantly smaller in size.

The cost of 1 km is 7.43 rubles/km.

Crossover advantages:

  • excellent handling and maneuverability;
  • thanks to all-wheel drive and multi-link suspension, good stability of the car on the road is ensured;
  • ground clearance of the front-wheel drive version is 190 mm;
  • Fuel consumption is quite low.

Minuses:

  • there are blind spots in the rear view (due to the features of the body);
  • after a long drive on the highway at speed, especially in cold weather, traction disappears, the engine does not respond to pressing the pedals;
  • front pads are enough for 30 thousand km;
  • The front door locks may freeze and the doors stop opening from the outside; after opening, they may not close from the inside.

The fuel consumption of this car per 100 km is considered quite economical and is:

  • 1.6 5-MT, 2WD – 7.5 l in the city, 5 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 5-MT, 2WD – 8.1 l in the city, 5.3 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 6-MT, 2WD – 9.1 l in the city, 5.6 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 7-variator 4x4 – 10.2 l in the city, 6 l on the highway.

The latest version of the Nissan Juke can be purchased with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The cost of all-wheel drive is higher, but this is how the best sides of this crossover are revealed. At the front, the car is equipped with standard MacPherson struts, at the rear – a torsion beam and guide arms.

Power and strength – Nissan Qashqai

A long time ago, the Nissan Qashqai crossover took its place of honor in the leading positions of the Russian market. This car is equipped with 1.6 or 2.0 liter engines (114 and 141 hp, respectively) and turbodiesels of 110 and 150 hp. After restyling, 1.2 and 1.5 liter power plants became available. The car can be equipped with either a manual transmission or a CVT. The all-wheel drive version has exclusively a 2-liter engine.

  • the variator is not fully developed by the manufacturer and, as a result, is short-lived and works reliably only with careful driving;
  • low life of axle bearings due to unprotected bearing design;
  • users notice many blind spots;
  • the steering rack is unreliable and problems begin after 50 thousand km;
  • the engine and interior will have to warm up for a long time in winter;
  • for all-wheel drive modifications, the driveshaft crosspiece lasts about 80-100 capes. kilometers, after which you will have to replace the entire driveshaft.

A car's fuel consumption per 100 km depends on its configuration:

  • 1.2 DIG-T 6-mech (diesel) – 7.8 l in the city, 5.3 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 6-mech (gasoline) – 10.7 l in the city, 6 l on the highway;

  • 1.5 dCi 6-mech (diesel) – 4.2 l in the city, 3.6 l on the highway.

The design of the Nissan Qashqai consists of a steel monocoque body, independent wheel suspensions on strong subframes, transversely mounted engines, front-wheel drive or automatically connected all-wheel drive for the 2-liter configuration. It has three operating modes - 2WD, Auto (automatic connection) and Lock (clutch blocking, automatically turns off at a speed of 30 km per hour). A special electric power steering is built into the steering shaft.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, equipment may include: 6 PB, ABS, air conditioning, electric mirrors and windows, active head restraints, headlights, heated front seats, etc.

Practical crossover Mitsubishi ASX

Mitsubishi ASX can have one of three engine options - 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters, with a rated power of 117, 140, 150 hp. respectively. The first type comes with a manual gearbox, while the others may have a CVT. All-wheel drive is only possible with a 2-liter engine and a CVT; this equipment is quite expensive.

The cost of 1 km is 7.31 rubles/km.

The car has the following advantages:

  • increased ground clearance - 195 mm along the exhaust pipe under the rear suspension;
  • very economical fuel consumption;
  • excellent handling and geometric cross-country ability - approach angle is 19 degrees, departure angle is 31 degrees, the car has the smallest turning angle in its class.

But the advantages are complemented by disadvantages, including:

  • lack of manual transmission with all-wheel drive;
  • weak rear shock absorbers;
  • the suspension is too stiff for Russian roads;
  • problems with engine detonation;
  • poor sound insulation;
  • very thin metal.

Fuel consumption per 100 km is:

  • 1.6 MT – 7.8 l in the city, 5 l on the highway;
  • 1.8 CVT – 9.8 l in the city, 6.4 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 CVT – 10.5 liters in the city, 6.8 liters on the highway.

The vehicle's ground clearance is 195 mm. The trunk is not capacious enough according to driver reviews, but the volume declared by the manufacturer is 420 liters. Tank capacity – 63 l. The basic equipment in other modifications is complemented by a convenient climate control system, full power accessories, a battery with increased capacity, heated seats and mirrors for better visibility in the cold, and an engine starting system in cold weather.

But the Kia Sportage also has some disadvantages:

  • fairly rigid suspension, which is designed for good roads;
  • presence of blind spots and poor visibility;
  • constant knocking in the suspension;
  • shock absorbers are prone to leaking;
  • the doors don't close well.

Fuel consumption per 100 km is as follows:

  • 2.0 MPI 4WD petrol (MT) – 10.9 l in the city, 6.6 l on the highway;

Choosing the ideal inexpensive SUV

Which crossover should you choose if your budget is limited, but you want to use resources efficiently to get a truly off-road and reliable car?

If you are purchasing a car for driving in urban conditions, then a powerful engine will not be practical. However, it will come in handy when traveling over rough terrain, in a village or on a country road. It is better to choose a higher ground clearance (3-4 cm above obstacles), since the car sways when driving and can catch objects with its bottom.

It should be noted that diesel engines are considered more economical, but gasoline engines are better adapted to the Russian climate. But do not forget that repairing diesel engines is always much more expensive.

It is better to initially set a budget for the purchase, which takes into account both the cost of the car and the costs of maintenance and insurance. You can pick up a car on the secondary market, thereby saving money.

It is possible to choose an inexpensive crossover and feel the advantages of an all-terrain vehicle. To do this, just decide on the model of the budget crossovers presented above and choose the modification that suits you.
