Part 1. Lyrical.

We are not talking about high-class tracks, where a professional approach is needed in everything, but about ordinary amateur "skating" and "classic", the most massive and in demand in the snowy expanses of Russia.

As a rule, they are simple paths in forests, parks and fields, trampled down by skiers, with a “hump”, pits from the terrain and ATVs, and other unpleasant surroundings. They are not always prepared regularly (no more than once a week), without understanding, “what they gave” and “the way we can”. with the corresponding result.

Long and hard trial and error we came up with a fairly versatile towing device, which will greatly simplify and reduce the cost of preparing such routes , which we will tell you about.

Like everyone else, we went through the "zoo" of our own, purchased and rented devices, constantly improving them. What we lacked: the quality of the track and cutting, reliability, simplicity of design, versatility, the ability to “level” the track, minimize mileage, reduce the time to prepare the track.

As one of the examples: the task is to prepare the GABO-Nekrasovskaya tourist route with good “classics” for the weekend. There was heavy snow during the week. Quad bikes were riding. The route is 15 km one way. The track needs to be leveled, tamped, cut. Having traditional “wheels”, “harrow” and “cutter” in the arsenal, you will have to drive at least 60 km, or even 90 km. It's TOO long, expensive in fuel, and physically hard.

IT CAN BE DONE EASIER, FASTER AND CHEAPER!!!

Part 2. Practical.

So, we managed to come up with two super weights, enchanting with their simplicity and efficiency. We will talk about our patented pride - "GABOsh" later, and today we will present "GABOsha-light".

Immediately make a reservation that GABOshu-light we do not make or sell Let's just go into detail. If you want, make your own.

Briefly: GABOSH-light is a two-in-one tow hitch designed to level the ski run and cut the classic track.

Purpose:

  • Preparation of an amateur skating track in various weather conditions
  • Cutting high-quality classic ski tracks, including in the wild

Main advantages:

  1. Simplicity of design.
Can be welded by any competent welder from materials from the nearest market.
  2. This is a two in one device.
GABOsha-light successfully replaces two "classic" devices: the so-called "harrow" and "cutter".
  3. Versatility
Allows you to prepare the track in different weather conditions - from heavy snow to spring hard ice.
Forms "shafts of snow", grinding twigs, needles, making the forest trail cleaner.
Allows you to cut the "humps" and level the track.
Well levels the track after ATVs .
    Cutting on wet snow possible
  4. Reliability
We use GABOshu-light in extremely harsh operating conditions, including the preparation of linear tourist routes in the wild forest. With more or less careful driving, it is almost eternal.
  5. Time saving
About the example above: the ideal “classic” in the wild is prepared in 2 passes: we go in one direction, leveling and ramming the track, at the end we turn the hitch over (without unhooking it from the snowmobile) and cut a dense, even, beautiful ski track. The profile is clean, the side part for sticks is quite dense. THE MILEAGE IS REDUCED BY 2-3 TIMES!!!

Flaws:

  1. Weight
Weight is necessary for the device to work properly. On the plain, the Buran will also cope with it, but in good terrain you need a more powerful utility snowmobile.
  2. Hard grip on old snow
It will be difficult to drag the GABOsha-light through the hard snow of the Buran, but a powerful snowmobile can handle it easily
  3. Width
For a wide skating track, you will have to wind circles. It is no longer possible to increase the size of THIS structure - the mass will become too large.
  4. weather restrictions
The versatility of GABOsha-light is not unlimited. Not recommended for use in snowy conditions.

Ready to answer questions!

Following the recommendations of the authors and focusing on their drawings of the "Scraper" and "Plow" (from the magazine "Skiing"), we made samples of these devices and tested them in practice. (produced under "Buran") During operation, some imperfections of the mentioned devices were revealed.

As you know, snowmobiles "Taiga" or "Buran" on a hook can tow hundreds of kilograms, therefore, the mass (weight) of devices is not a problem. The material for the devices should be only metal, and not boards and plywood, since this increases reliability, there is no need for additional cargo, and in the manufacture, you can basically use electric welding. This design is much more reliable.

The length of the "Scraper" should not exceed 100 mm, otherwise it will not allow it to fit into the track of the "Buran" on turns, and will hang over the depressions.

A large area of support leads to a significant accumulation of snow on top, which will not crumble, especially when the air temperature is around zero. The “Scraper” does not perform its main function - breaking, loosening and mixing snow - on a dirty, frozen ski track, as it slides along individual scallops, leaving behind dirty uneven ruts.

The knives in the "Struga" in the described version are located at a very obtuse angle, so they do not cut the ski track, but rather rake the snow in front of them, especially hard, or chip off snow layers.

The absence of guide skids behind the knives, protruding beyond the edge of the Struga platform, eliminates the possibility of smoothing the cut track.

In addition, there is no “apron” in the design, so the snow thrown out by the knives is not taken to the side, but falls on the ski track. The disadvantage is also the too large size of the windows into which the cut snow goes. The windows must be exactly the width of the knives.

And, finally, in the proposed device, the issue of transportation from the storage place to the route is not thought out.

Having analyzed all the shortcomings of the “Scraper” and “Struga” devices, we worked on individual nodes and improved the design as a whole.

We bring to the attention of readers options for devices "Plow-cutter" and "Harrows". It seems that with the help of the given drawings, those who wish will be able to manufacture devices that we have repeatedly and successfully used to lay the ski track.

Rice. 1 - Plow cutter: 1 - coupling device (l - 700 mm, ⌀ 16-18); 2 - thrust; 3 - rod attachment (⌀ 16-18); 4 - guide skid for rectilinear movement (200X20X4 mm); 5 - rack of skids (l - 300 mm, ⌀ 20-23); 6- platform (750X400X10 mm); 7 - pin for holding loads (l -100 mm, ⌀ 16, M16 wing nut); 8-runner (strip 3X100 mm); 9 - rack for attaching an apron (l -100 m, ⌀ 20); 10 - window for receiving snow (85X75 mm, between windows 145 mm (200); 11 - apron (520X300X35 mm); 12 - skid for the final formation of the ski track (30X55X300 mm); 13 - knife (spring steel 75X60 mm, base width - 60); 14 - screw (M6, 3 pcs.)

Rice. 2. Harrow: 1 - channel (No. 8-10, 2 pcs.); 2 - corner (65X75 mm. l - 650 mm, 3 pcs.); 3 - tooth (120X20X10 mm, 30 pieces); 4 - cargo (channel size, 12 pieces); 5 - guide skid (200X20X5 mm, 2 pcs.); 6 - rod (round timber ⌀ 16-18, 1-700 mm, 2 pcs.)

Probably no one will argue that skiing requires a track. Let's look at the different ways of laying ski tracks. So, for laying ski tracks, there are three main ways:

There are three main ways to lay a ski track:

1. Laying a ski track with skis, that is, walking through snowdrifts on skis, leaving behind parallel tracks. If another hundred people pass along this track, then we get a ski track acceptable for walking, in some places a curve, in some places interrupted by traces of the fall of various parts of the body of the skiers. This method is inexpensive, but very labor-intensive, and as a result of all the efforts, the ski track is of little use for real skiing.

2. Ratrak. This is a large snow bulldozer with wide tracks, which will compact the snow, level the snow surface and push the ski track in it if it has the appropriate devices. This method is good in terms of the quality of the prepared ski track, but it is very expensive, it requires large financial costs for the snowcat itself, storage space, maintenance costs, and a specially trained driver.

3. Laying ski tracks with any snowmobile. Better, of course, is a utilitarian snowmobile, or as they are also called a worker. To lay a classic track using a snowmobile, you will need a track layer, or, as skiers also call it, a cutter. And for skating - a harrow for skating. This method is not too expensive, but very effective. The cost of preparing the route with a snowmobile is significantly lower than preparing it with a snowcat. The quality of the ski track is comparable to the snowcat, which allows competitions of any level. In it, the main component is a snowmobile, which pulls the devices laying the ski track. The price of a snowmobile suitable for laying ski tracks is from 160,000 for a domestic Buran to 300,000 for a Japanese Yamaha.

XCSPORT offers ski-laying devices for sports enthusiasts - skating harrows and cutters for classic skiing. And again, new items, now it is a universal harrow for laying ski tracks for free running.

Classic track cutter

Cutters, track layers and harrows are constantly tested in various snow conditions and improved. At the moment we offer a new model of cutter and harrow.
The new versatile ski cutter design has been tested in a variety of snow conditions. The cutter worked both at a snow cover height of 10 cm and on dense crust, and on deep loose snow, leaving a beautiful smooth track everywhere.
The design of the XCsport torch uses the most successful solutions of different torches and is assembled in one product:
- hinged mount allows you to turn the cutter from the "sledge" position to the "cutter" without unhooking it from Buran,
- adjustable height of the drawbar, allows you to use it with different snowmobiles,
- the cutter can work in pressing (for loose snow and little snow) and in cutting (for dense snow and crust) modes,
- a large snow outlet allows you to lay a ski track, even on wet, coarse-grained and sticky snow,
- the weight of the cutter is not more than 40 kg,
- a rigid drawbar and deep guides hold the cutter steadily even on an inclined surface,
- dimensions of the cutter and a removable drawbar, allow it to be easily transported in the trunk of a car,
- powder coating reliably protects against corrosion and prevents snow from sticking.

Ski cutter with snow wing

Cutter dimensions:
Torch width (without drawbar) 56 cm
Cutter length (without drawbar) 90 cm
The distance between the tracks along the axes of the track is 24 cm,
track depth 45 mm,
width at the bottom of the ski tracks 5 cm
width at the top of the ski tracks 11.5
cm.

New photos of the universal ski cutter and the skating harrow have been published in the photo album of our website and on the skitrack website.

We are sure that the more cutters will be made, the more beautiful and smooth ski tracks will surround us, and more people will go skiing. The number of snowmobiles among citizens is growing every year and just imagine what will happen if every lucky owner of such a snow machine spends 30 minutes to lay 5 km of ski tracks near his house or summer house.
