GAZ-3308 is a domestic off-road truck. The car replaced the 66th model of the Gorky Automobile Plant. For 19 years of operation, it has proven itself from the best sides. The history of the creation of GAZ-3308

The first production copies were assembled in 1997. The truck was supposed to replace the GAZ-66, which could not withstand the competition of modern transport. In the new car, engineers have tried to preserve the best qualities of the previous generation.

The 3308 was first talked about in the late 1980s. Then they wanted to seriously modernize the 66th model. In the 90th year, the Gorky Automobile Plant presented the GAZ-3301, which was intended for military purposes and worked on a new diesel engine. The collapse of the Soviet Union prevented mass production; the old model remained on the assembly line.

After the collapse of the USSR, the development of GAZ-3308 Sadko continued. The new military vehicle was required to increase its strength and improve all technical characteristics. The main change was the design of the cab: the designers abandoned the cabover structure, as this reduced the level of comfort and made the car less safe. Some elements of the new cockpit were taken from the 3309th version.

In 1995, a prototype of the GAZ-3309P was presented. After some modifications and re-passing the tests, the commercial production of 3308 was launched in 1997. After equipping the Russian army, the machines began to be supplied to the CIS countries.

The truck is shipped to several countries:

  • Syria - In 2005 received 114 copies for testing. In 2007, the transport was adopted by the local army;
  • Armenia - several small parties are in military service;
  • Ukraine - since 2014, vehicles have been performing various tasks of territorial defense battalions;
  • Belarus - used for military purposes in the early 00s;

The first update was released in 2003. The changes were minimal, both externally and technically. The line of engines has been replenished with a new D-245.7 turbodiesel. In 2013, they began to produce cars with a YaMZ-53442 power plant, which met Euro-4 standards. In the 14th year, the world was presented with "Sadko Next" - a modernized model capable of carrying 3 tons.

Technical characteristics of GAZ-3308

The GAZ-3308 car meets modern technical requirements. He is able to move off-road and overcome obstacles of different sizes. In recent years, the enterprise has been producing the GAZ-3308 chassis, which makes it possible to install various modules on it.

For equipping, three types of power units are used. 117-horsepower diesel engines from the Minsk or Yaroslavl factories or a gasoline engine from the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant. The most popular is the gasoline option.

The gasoline model is made on the carburetor type, has eight cylinders arranged in a V-shape. Power - 122 horsepower. Many owners complain that it is not able to lift vehicles uphill when fully loaded. Diesel power plants deliver even less power. If the truck is not loaded to the maximum, with any engine it moves acceptable. For comfortable control, a power steering was added to the design.

The downdraft carburetor has two chambers. The liquid heater maintains the required temperature of the working mixture. The dry type filter works thanks to the regulated air supply. Forced air circulation is carried out in a closed liquid cooling system.

The dry clutch is of the friction type. Equipped with a hydraulic drive. For gasoline versions, a peripheral spring is installed, for diesel models - a diaphragm spring. All examples have a five-speed gearbox. All are synchronized except for first and reverse gears. The cabin has a lever for engaging an overdrive. The mechanical transfer case has a drive to the front and rear axles, there are direct and lower stages.

The service brake system is double-circuit, supplemented by a pneumohydraulic drive. Braking is carried out on different axles. The locking system is automatic; the design includes a modulator and a pneumatic amplifier. There are brake cylinders in each channel. The spare brake is provided by both circuits. The parking brake is mechanically operated.

The drive acts on both axes. The diesel version weighs 6.3 tons, the gasoline version - 5.95 tons. According to experts, for its class GAZ-3308 Sadko has a lot of weight.

The special structure of the suspension, the basis of which was taken from the 66th version, allows you to quickly overcome road sections with soft soil and mud. A big disadvantage for the car is the ground clearance (31.5 centimeters), because of it, it often gets stuck. The length of the car is 6.25 meters. The driver has the ability to overcome climbs up to 31 degrees, water obstacles up to 1 meter deep and carry cargo with a mass of no more than 2,000 kg.

GAZ-3308 modifications

The cabin is made using all-metal technology, has two doors and is designed for two people. The number of chassis add-ons exceeds 100 pieces. The most common are tanks, equipment for rescue services, gas and oil tanks.

The platform is made using all-metal or wood-metal methods. The set includes a structure for installing an awning; additional grilles can be installed on the sides. The audible alarm is used to contact the body and the passenger compartment.

The "Huntsman" configuration differs from the basic cabin capacity - up to 5 people. Due to the increase in its length, the length of the body was reduced, which is used to transport people and goods of various types. Such a complete set is used to equip a residential module if it is used by repair crews. Short body versions can transport loads up to 1 ton.

The onboard modification provides passengers with a high level of safety. Above the sides, seat belts are fastened with which passengers can fasten. Benches for people are attached to the side walls and can be folded. For lighting, a small lamp is used, mounted on one of the arches of the awning structure.

The frame of the truck is stamped, equipped with front side member extensions. Disc wheels have single tires. The device has an automatic tire pressure monitoring system.

In 2014, the plant presented the GAZ-3308 Taiga-VIP. The transport capacity has been improved and the capacity has been expanded to 7 people. Such a cabin allows you to use a car with modules of various farms that contain the necessary equipment and tools.

Instances of the last years of release have a built-in ladder for moving to the roof. A roof rack can be installed there to transport large, but not heavy items. The package includes two winches. "Taiga" is equipped with wiring, so there are separate lighting and sockets in the cabin and in the van. They are powered by a diesel generator. The Sadko all-terrain vehicle is equipped with both a gasoline and a diesel power unit. The first engines are ZMZ-513 or ZMZ-5233. Both engines are liquid-cooled carburetor.

For all modifications of this model, a 5-speed synchronized manual transmission is used. The exception is the GAZ 3308-50 / 52 modifications, in which the ZMZ-513 engine serves as the power unit. GAZ 3308 is a bonnet type off-road truck. The model replaced the GAZ 66. Model history and purpose

The debut generation of GAZ 3308 appeared in 1997. The car was positioned as a replacement for the GAZ 66 car, which was outdated by that time. At the same time, the designers of the Gorky Automobile Plant tried to keep the best qualities of the predecessor in the new model.

Attempts to create a GAZ 3308 were made already at the end of the 1980s. Then the developers tried to unify the existing version of GAZ 66. In 1990, the premiere of the military GAZ 3301 took place, a distinctive feature of which was a new diesel engine. However, due to the collapse of the USSR, plans to create a fundamentally new model had to be postponed, and the production of the GAZ-66 continued.

The development of GAZ 3308 was soon resumed, but at a slower pace. New demands from the market and the army made it necessary to create a car with improved characteristics. It was decided to abandon the cabover configuration typical for the GAZ 66 due to the high danger to the driver, low level of comfort, poor ergonomics and difficulty in repair. As a result, a completely new-looking cabin was developed, some of the elements of which were borrowed from the GAZ 3309 car.

The first prototype of the model with the GAZ 3309P index was presented by the Gorky Automobile Plant in 1995. After 2 years, the serial production of the GAZ 3308 car started. Soon, the export of the truck to some CIS countries began.

In 2003, Sadko underwent its first small update. External changes were minimal. The turbodiesel "D-245.7", corresponding to the "Euro-2" class, has appeared in the line of units. In the winter of 2013, the production of modifications with the YaMZ-53442 (Euro-4) turbodiesel began.

In the summer of 2014, the premiere of the updated version of GAZ 3308, named "Sadko Next" and having a carrying capacity of 3000 kg, took place.

The car was supplied in various designs. The most popular ones are:

  • base GAZ 3308 with a ZMZ-5231.10 carburetor unit;
  • GAZ 3308 "Eger" with an extended 5-seater 2-row cab from the Tekhnospas-NN company;
  • GAZ 33081 - version with a turbocharged engine "MMZ D-245.7";
  • GAZ 33081 "Huntsman 2" with a 5-seater 2-row cab;
  • GAZ 33082 - a model with a GAZ-562 turbodiesel;
  • GAZ 33086 "Countryman" - a 4-ton vehicle with a dual-slope rear axle tire;
  • GAZ 33088 with a YMZ-53442 turbocharged unit;
  • MTP-1 is a technical assistance vehicle based on GAZ 3308.

The latest modification of GAZ 3308 practically does not differ from its predecessor. The layout of the body and cockpit is practical, and the headlights and turn signals have a traditional circular shape. They are housed separately and are not integrated into the bumper. Damage to one of the devices does not affect the operation of the others. The modular design allows the replacement of the required element in the shortest possible time.

A wide variety of modifications makes the scope of the GAZ 3308 quite wide. However, the model was most widely used in the army. For civilian needs "Sadko" is used much less often.

  3. Gasoline engine of the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant. This unit is currently installed at Sadko much more often than others. The carburetor 8-cylinder unit with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders has a power of 122 hp. At the same time, it does not always withstand the load (especially when overloading) when climbing a steep slope. The unit is supplemented by a balanced 2-chamber downdraft carburetor and a liquid heater that heats the working mixture. The motor has a working volume of 4.25 liters.

Motors of the latest vehicle modifications comply with Euro-4 environmental requirements. The average resource of their work is 500,000 km. A pre-heater is optionally available.

Several dozen modules have been developed for the model, the most popular of which are machines for the gas and oil sector, tank trucks, hunting modifications and fire brigades.

Special versions of GAZ 3308 are distinguished by higher cross-country ability in comparison with standard models. For the "Taiga" version, the installation of a 7-seater cab is available, which makes it possible to efficiently use the car. Some variations also come with a ladder. It is used for lifting onto the roof, on which you can additionally install a special roof rack for transporting bulky but light loads.

The interior of the car practically does not differ from the GAZ 3307 model. In the cabin there is a straight dashboard made of plastic. It is painted exclusively in matte black. A similar solution is used on civilian and military versions. The quality of finishing materials leaves much to be desired - the plastic is quite tough to the touch. Sound insulation in GAZ 3308 is practically absent. This is explained by the fact that attractiveness and appearance were not priorities when creating the car. On the passenger side, there is a small glove compartment inside, allowing you to place various little things and other things there. In the center is the curved gear lever. A similar model of the transmission knob was specially chosen as it facilitates movement in the passenger compartment.

GAZ 3308 stands out for its high maintainability. The model has a simple design, and spare parts are always on sale. The cost of repair and maintenance is low. It is this factor, coupled with unpretentiousness, that is decisive when choosing a car by small and medium-sized businesses.

Despite the improved design and modern technologies, GAZ 3308 has retained some of the "sores" of its predecessor. The biggest question is the soundproofing, which is practically absent in the cockpit. Vibration and hum from the diesel unit are well felt by the driver and passengers, even at idle. The owners of gasoline versions suffer from this a little less. The build quality is also not the best, although there are much fewer complaints here.

Price of new and used GAZ 3308

The new GAZ 3308 is offered in several modifications that differ significantly in price. The most widespread at the present time are the models "Sadko" and "Countryman". The first in the basic configuration with a 125-horsepower unit will cost 1.655 million rubles. The cost of the Zemlyak truck with a 117-horsepower engine starts at 1.403 million rubles. Additional options or other add-ons can significantly increase the price.

There are quite a few used GAZ 3308 on the Russian market. The 2003-2005 models will cost from 220,000 to 450,000 rubles, the 2007-2009 versions - from 500,000 to 750,000 rubles.

Analogs

GAZ 3308 has practically no full-fledged analogues. These include the GAZ-66 model.

GAZ Group, which has included the Gorky Automobile Plant since 2005, is the largest car manufacturer in Russia. In 1999 the plant started production of a new all-wheel drive truck - the GAZ-3308 Sadko off-road vehicle. This machine was designed to replace the reliable but outdated one. The designers tried to preserve all the best qualities of the old GAZ.

Vehicle specifications

The technical characteristics of the GAZ 3308 car correspond to modern requirements. At the same time, the car has not lost its cross-country ability, it can be used in off-road conditions. At present, the car plant produces cars using a modular production system, which makes it possible to produce trucks and vehicles for cargo and passenger transportation on the basis of the same GAZ 3308 chassis.

The machine is equipped with a 117-horsepower diesel engine from the Yaroslavl Motor and Minsk Motor Plants, and a gasoline engine from the Zavolzhskiy Motor Plant. Currently, a gasoline engine is more often installed on machines with modular installations.

The 122 l / s carbureted eight-cylinder gasoline engine with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders with a capacity of 122 l / s in a laden state, according to the owners, does not always withstand the load when climbing uphill. But the engine on the GAZ 3308 diesel is weaker than the gasoline engine in terms of its performance. However, if you do not overload the car, it behaves perfectly when transporting goods. The machine is equipped with hydraulic power steering.

The truck is equipped with a balanced two-chamber carburetor with a falling flow, the working mixture is heated by a liquid heater. Variable airflow ensures dry air filter operation. Air circulation in a closed liquid cooling system is forced.

GAZ 3308 has a dry, single-plate friction clutch with a hydraulic drive and pressure peripheral springs for gasoline cars and a diaphragm spring for a diesel engine. Fully synchronized (with the exception of the first and reverse gears) mechanical five-speed gearbox is installed on cars of all modifications. An overdrive is engaged as needed with a separate lever in the driver's cab. Transfer case with direct and low gear, mechanical, with drives to the front and rear axles. The brake system (working) with a pneumohydraulic drive is double-circuit, with separate braking of the axles.

The automatic blocking system is equipped with a modulator and a pneumatic booster, in each channel there is a master brake cylinder. Both circuits of the working system are a reserve brake system. The parking brake has a mechanical transmission.

Two-axle, with a drive on both axles, when equipped with a diesel engine, the vehicle has a gross weight of 6300 kg. If a gasoline engine is installed, the weight of the truck is reduced to 5950 kg. The car has a large mass for a car in its class.

The weight, a special design of the suspension, helps to quickly get out of places where there is no hard surface and dirt predominates. Which, however, does not prevent GAZ 3308 in some cases from settling in this mud on the front and rear axles, since the vehicle's ground clearance is only 315 mm. Machine length 6250 mm, outer turning radius 11 meters. The car is able to climb a slope of 310 and a ford of 1 meter and carry up to 2 tons of cargo.

There are a lot of car modifications

The platform of a truck with a conventional cab can be in metal or wood-metal design. It is equipped with arches under the awning, removable grilles can be installed on it. For communication with the cockpit, the platform is equipped with an audible alarm.

A five-seater cabin with the same simple device as in the base car is mounted on the Gaz 3308 "Huntsman" car. The platform is short due to the length of the cab. It is designed to transport various goods. When used for military purposes, the work of shift workers, such a platform is used for the installation of special technological equipment or residential modules. The carrying capacity of the shortened platform is 1000 kg.

The onboard version of a conventional platform for the transport of passengers, in order to protect them on the road from injuries and accidents, is equipped with a safety belt installed above the tailgate. Seats for passengers are in-line, mounted along the side walls. Under the awning, on one of the arches, a plafond is installed to illuminate the platform.

The frame of Gaz 3308 and all modifications of this car is stamped, has front side member extensions. Disc wheels with 12.00R single-tire tires and pneumatic air pumping.

The new GAZ 3308 Taiga-VIP, which appeared at the exhibition in 2014, has a high cross-country ability, in comparison with the previously released model with an extended base of the "Standard" configuration. The modified seven-seater cabin of the new car allows it to be used with modules for various purposes, equipped with additional tools in hunting farms, oil and gas production enterprises, taiga fishing and hunting trips.

A ladder is installed on the van of the new car, which allows you to climb to the roof, where you can additionally install a trunk for transporting light, but bulky cargo. They are loaded onto the roof using a crane - beams. The machine is equipped with two winches, one from the old GAZ-66. On GAZ 3308 "Taiga", a diesel generator is installed in a separate compartment, wiring is made in the van for the operation of electrical devices, lighting and sockets are installed, a separate electrical circuit for the cab and the van. The residential module is heated by an autonomous liquid heater, and a weapon cabinet is provided in the sleeping compartment of the van.

A dump truck is mounted on the GAZ 3308 base with the possibility of three-way unloading and loading. The carrying capacity of such a car is 4500 kg, the gross vehicle weight is 8180 kg. For a dump truck with an electric lift, the car was re-shod with 8.25-R 20 tires, the wheel formula remained the same. The GAZ 3308 dump truck is equipped with a 122-horsepower four-cylinder four-cylinder diesel engine with a fuel consumption of 22 l / 100 km.

The engine preheater is an additional option, installed upon the customer's request. Engines of the latest models comply with the Euro-4 ecological class, have a resource of 500 thousand km. Spare parts for GAZ 3308 are always on sale, the price of maintenance and repair of a car allows small and medium businesses to use it in various climatic conditions.

Cars of this GAZ model range on the primary market can be purchased in the range from 900,000 to 2,000,000 rubles.
