Kia introduced the Sportage frame SUV in 1993. Since then, the model has undergone several updates and since 2016 has been presented on the market in the 4th generation. For 14 years of release, its design has undergone radical changes, as well as the engine compartment. More details about the motors of the model and their maintenance (how much oil to pour) later in the article.

In the first generation (1993-2004), 2-liter Mazda engines were installed on the Sportage I: diesel with 83 hp. and gasoline with 117-128 hp, working with both mechanics and automatic. Four-wheel drive gave the car good off-road qualities and the SUV, built on the Mazda Bongo platform, quickly took a vacant niche in the market. The Sportage II debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. It differed from the previous generation in its large dimensions and transition to the class of "SUVs" by getting rid of the frame structure. Now the crossover is built on the same platform as the Hyundai Tussan and is available in both full- and front-wheel drive versions. Quite good dynamic performance was provided by a 142-horsepower gas engine with 2 liters of volume, a 175-horsepower 2.7-liter engine and a 2.0d turbodiesel with 112 horses in the asset. In 2007-2008, the SUV was facelifted twice, and in 2010 it was replaced by the third generation.

The Kia Sportage III is a small crossover that continued production until 2016. The presentation took place at an exhibition in Geneva and during this period the novelty shared the platform with the Hyundai ix35. In 2014, a cosmetic restyling took place. The Russian version of the car was equipped with 2-liter diesel (126 and 184 hp, fuel consumption 6.9 liters per 100 km) and gasoline (150 hp, fuel consumption 8.5 liters) automatic or mechanically operated engines. The next generation of the model was shown to the public at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Now the car is offered with 6 different power plants: 3 diesel and 3 petrol. In Russia, these are 2 petrol 1.6 and 2.0 liters (177 and 150 hp) and 1 turbodiesel 2.0d (185 hp).

All the indicated viscosities must be compared with the data in Table 4. It is possible to select the required engine lubricant according to the viscosity characteristics taking into account the temperature at which the vehicle will be used, pay attention to the letters (C, D, B) near the viscosities of motor oils, they will facilitate the calculation.

Table 4. Operating temperature range for recommended engine oil viscosities.

According to table 4, for example, for 2.0 MPI engines running on gasoline (Australia, Africa, general export region, Russia, Asia, the Pacific region), 5W-30 or 5W-20 is suitable at temperatures outside the car from -30 0 From (or less) to +50 0 C (and above).

For 1.6 T-GDI engines running on gasoline (Europe), SAE 5W-30 lubricant is used at temperature conditions from -30 0 С (or less) to + 50 0 С (and higher). If the temperature is from -7 0 С to +50 0 С (and more), then in the cell of the plate with the letter designation (С) you need to select the 20W-50 motor oil. The selection of other viscosities of engine oils is carried out in the same way.

Conclusion

The density of the lubricant determines its ability to fill the gaps in the friction units of the motor, as well as the speed of pumping the car oil through the lubrication system. The recommended engine oil for Kia Sportage is selected taking into account the technical characteristics of the power unit. The car manufacturer draws attention in the operating instructions to the need to take into account the season outside the vehicle. Based on the data in the manual tables, liquid oils are used for the winter, and thicker motor oils are poured in the summer. All-season lubrication is intermediate between winter and summer fluids.

Car owners who bought a used car sooner or later face an important question - how much oil to fill in the 2.0 Kia Sportage 3 gasoline engine! An article about gasoline engines.

Engine oil volume

The fact is that two types of engine oil pan with an oil volume were installed on pre-styling Sportages: 4L or 6L.

The pallets differ in the amount of oil filled in and the presence of a level sensor. The first option is volume 4 liters... And the second - a car produced since mid-2011 (model year 12) has already installed a pallet with an increased volume - 6 liters and a dipstick with a red ring.

On restyled sportage editions starting in 2014, the G4NA (NU) engine was returned back 4 liters oils.

Each pallet comes with a different feeler gauge that differs in length. But if you read the KIA forums, people write: they come across completely different settings, i.e. large pallet and small dipstick, and vice versa.

Sump with oil volume 4.1

If you determine that a small pallet is installed, without a sensor, the original number of which is 21510-25001, then you will need a maximum of engine oil 4.1 liters... Oil filter: 26300-35503.

With such a pallet, in theory, the probe 26611-2G020 should be installed.

Pallet with increased volume 215102G100

If a pan 21510-2G100 is installed, then oil must be filled in maximum 6.5 liters... The probe should be: 26611-2G100. As a rule, cars produced after mid-2011. The filter will be required: 26300-35530.

If you are still not sure about the amount of oil in the engine, then it is better to buy two 4 liter canisters, and fill in already, in fact, how much will merge. The remaining oil will remain for the next change.

My Mid 2011 AWD Sportage has a large pallet and a dipstick with a red handle. I flooded 6.5 liters oil to the maximum level on the dipstick. Photo report on the replacement.

Engine oil selection

The choice of oil is already a purely personal matter for everyone, but I tend to the original Hyundai oil Turbo SYN Gasoline 5W-30, which fits the ACEA A5 classification. Well, this is my personal choice! In my opinion, the best price-quality ratio.
