In fairness, it should be noted that the new Skoda Octavia RS 2017 is by no means a new generation, but only, which is confirmed by the practically unchanged side panels of the car and the appearance recognizable at first glance. And from a technical point of view, there are not many changes.

As you know, on the basis of which the Czechs made a charged Skoda Octavia RS 2018, this is a practical city sedan with the functionality of a station wagon, the controllability of a compact hatchback and German attention to detail. But what happens if you try to properly piss off this essentially peaceful car? It will turn out to be the most powerful serial copy of the Octavia RS 2018 in the history of the Czech company.

For all its recognition, the updated Octavia RS has its own highlight - two-component LED headlights. It should be noted that live this design element looks much more harmonious and less controversial than in photographs. In the Skoda Octavia RS version, these sophisticated optics, combined with a new radiator grill, create a completely new facial expression for the Octavia RS 2017.

In addition, Octavia RS has new sections of foglights and other air intakes. The bumpers and rear lights layout have been slightly tweaked. The basic equipment includes interesting 17-inch wheels. If wheel size is more than just wheel size for you, you can afford impressive 18 "and even furious 19" rollers for a surcharge.

Inside the Skoda Octavia RS 2018, the update has touched the center console. There is now an impressive 9.2-inch screen of the multimedia system with touch buttons. It has wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel and USB ports for rear passengers. Everything is as functional as in the pre-reform version, only slightly better.

The main task of a car like the Skoda Octavia RS is to take more, take it away and do it all as efficiently as possible, both in terms of fuel consumption and in terms of emotions. Skoda is pretty hard to spot for making emotional cars. She simply does not have such.

Apparently, the company's specialists guess about this and therefore they tried to make the updated Skoda Octavia RS a little more emotional due to small nuances. For example, the backlight is now available to the car owner. The seats are great, not exactly sporty, but they keep the driver tight enough nonetheless. The black headliner adds a sporty feel.

As for noise insulation, it is developed in Octavia RS 2018 to an extraordinary level. Although here it could be smaller, because in this car you need to hear its engine, you need to feel its rhythm. However, the driver hears only silence.

In terms of technical equipment, the new Octavia RS 2018 remained the same, except that its power was dispersed from 220 to 230 hp. Under the hood is the same two-liter TFSi engine, the same 6-speed manual transmission that does not cause any problems, or the proven DSG gearbox. Except that the rear track has increased by 38 mm, but this does not affect the driving experience in any way.


For a charged Skoda Octavia RS, the characteristics do not differ much from the civilian version of the same car.

But Skoda engineers would not be themselves if they limited the flight of their engineering thought on this. And so, along with the updated version of the Octavia RS, which has increased by 10 hp, they released a special version of the Octavia RS, which is 25 hp more powerful than the one before. They thought about a special name for a special car for a long time and decided to name it Octavia RS 245, according to the amount of horsepower produced by the same 2-liter engine as that of an ordinary "eres".

The version 245 differs from the 230-horsepower version by another 8 mm with an extended rear track, a 7-band robot instead of a 6-band and improved acceleration dynamics to 100 km / h by one tenth of a second. But the main feature of this untethered liftback is that it will not be presented on the Russian market. Therefore, it makes sense to return to the technical equipment of the RS Octavia, which we will still see on our roads.

The driver has the option to select the mode. The electronically controlled suspension will damp the shock absorbers if he chooses Sport mode. But the updated Octavia has an interesting feature. If you enter a corner extremely aggressively or find yourself in a difficult road situation, when you need to make several abrupt maneuvers in a row, the electronics will automatically switch the chassis to sport mode.

Options Octavia RS

The most notable innovations have occurred in the optional equipment of the Skoda Octavia RS 2018. Now, in difficult road situations, the following systems will help the driver. Tracking blind spots, keeping in the lane, preventing a frontal collision and collision with an obstacle from behind. Of course, there is also adaptive cruise control. The lane hold assistant, which is active here, works very correctly. He interferes with the behavior of the "Ereski", but correctly, smoothly, calmly.

Any car from Skoda, and Octavia RS is no exception, this is practicality. Czechs know how to surprise with small but very clever technical solutions. Take, for example, the problem of unscrewing the bottle cap. Usually, to unscrew it, the driver has to release the steering wheel, because without the help of the other hand, the bottle in the cup holder will scroll. The Czechs came up with small pimples at the bottom of the cup holder, and now the bottle is glued in place, allowing the driver to twist the lid. Or an exceptionally convenient plastic slot that fits your phone ergonomically. There are about three dozen such small things, convenient, practical, correct in the Skoda Octavia.

Although the trunk has not changed, it is worth mentioning about it. Still, the trunk of the Octavia RS holds 590 liters. Note that the car is traditionally executed in the body of a liftback. In fact, this is an almost ideal city car that will never provoke the driver to show its sporty character. In this particular case, it is rather a plus than a minus.

On public roads, the civic, quite good-natured nature of the hot Octavia RS really does feel good.

In order to reveal the racing potential of the Skoda Octavia RS 2018, part of the test drive took place on the race track. There was something to reveal: 2 liters, 235 hp. and 6.7 sec. up to a hundred, in the case of a manual transmission. The peculiarity of modern robotic gearboxes is that they work much more dynamically and professionally than humans. Therefore, one could expect that the RS obtained for the test would accelerate to the first hundred even faster, in some six and a half seconds.

The car allows you to feel completely safe, as evidenced by the five stars earned on the EuroNCAP tests, which the car passed perfectly. The safety exam protects the adult passenger by 93%. It instills a certain sense of calmness. Among other things, there are Era-Glonass systems here. Despite the fact that this is a very new car, it will not have any problems in Russia.

It is extremely difficult to lose control of this car, unless you do it on purpose. The comfort that you feel behind the wheel of the Octavia RS on public roads does not disappear with increasing speed. Because you have to react a little earlier to changes in the trajectory of movement, but still the Octavia behaves very clearly and predictably. With your eyes you see the trajectory of the entrance, with your hands I go there the car, and it does exactly what the driver orders him to do. It's a great feeling.

Character features of the Skoda Octavia RS

But the most important character trait of the Octavia RS, which manifests itself precisely on the race track, is not at all dynamics and amazing steering, although all this is present. Most importantly, it is the ease with which it allows the driver to do all this. In fact, it feels like even a completely inexperienced driver will accurately, accurately and correctly go through all the turns on the race track. This is a very comfortable feeling.

Sports seats, as well as pronounced lateral support, also help, together they allow you not to strain the muscles of the driver's back, in those moments when inertia is trying to throw his body to the side. Although the Octavia RS cannot be called uncompromisingly a sports car, it still deserves the title of a car with a sporty character.

When the sport mode is activated, the Octavia RS gets a fairly assembled suspension, an informatively sharpened steering wheel, a modified engine and gearbox algorithm, as well as minimized response time to pressing the gas pedal. In addition, the interior is filled with a specially generated sports exhaust sound. Just like in real sports cars.

The peak torque of 350 Nm is available in an astonishing range of 1,500 to 4,800 rpm. Skoda Octavia RS is able to give its owner a lot of bright, pleasant emotions and at the same time he will always be in the comfort and safety zone. Such is the character of the Octavia RS, a vehicle remarkable for its versatility. By the way, unlike the civil Octavia, which is assembled in Russia, the RS version will be delivered from Europe.

The starting price of the Octavia RS is 2,169,000 rubles, and the version with a robot will cost 2,236,000 rubles.

The sports version with restyling has acquired new optics, has become more powerful by 10 hp. - we already know that. But what the car suddenly lost can be seen only in Moscow traffic jams.

Octavia RS entered the Russian market just a couple of months later than its standard cousin, which is assembled in Nizhny Novgorod, and in the summer, in theory, you could have met a four-eyed "lighter" on our roads. Alas, I personally have not seen a single one. Maybe the point is that this car is considered expensive, not taking into account, for example, that Skoda Octavia RS is more expensive in Germany than in Russia.

If you buy RS, it does not mean at all that you will get “full stuffing”. A lot of what is in the test car is options. This is the upholstery of the seats, and a multimedia complex with a large display, and all kinds of electronic assistants, from a car park operator to an adaptive cruise.

Objectively, this is still the ideal car for every day for those who want to take care of themselves, and not splurge on others. However, there is something to put in the dust! The test car catches the eye with its 19-inch wheels, through the contrasting honeycomb of which the red calipers are visible. Or with the same spoiler. It doesn't make much sense, though. But the brakes, increased in comparison with the standard version, allow you to feel much more confident in the city, and on the track they easily withstand 5-7 entertainment circles in a row - checked.

Increase and addition

With restyling, the two-liter engine became 10 hp. more powerful than before, but honestly - you don't notice it. The car drove 6.9 to "hundred" - now its result is 6.8. In any case, behind the eyes in the city. And with such dynamics on the model, which is so similar to the bestseller of the Russian assembly, once again you understand that "gas" is a safety pedal. Drive onto the Moscow Ring Road along the acceleration lane, rebuild and immediately accelerate ... You just don't have to wait in cases when by car with an indicator like 9 s up to 100 km / h you will first have to skip passing transport and only then thoughtfully pick up speed.

The power boost the car got with the restyling wasn't nearly as important as everything else the RS now has. Checked!

The restyled Skoda RS is formally already on sale in Russia. You are free to take your money to the dealer and conclude a contract, but this does not mean at all that you can immediately get behind the wheel of the coveted "hot" liftback or station wagon. "Live" cars will arrive in our country only in the summer.

Do you want a liftback, do you want a station wagon - RS in Russia will be in both versions. The difference comes down to the design of the rear part of the body, to 0.1 s in acceleration to "hundreds" in favor of the liftback and to 80,000 rubles. The liftback also wins for the price.

As before, RS-ki will only be imported, as, indeed, all (even the most common) station wagons and the Scout version. In Russia, only standard liftbacks are assembled - the production of updated five-doors has been in full swing since March in Nizhny Novgorod. And they, unlike the RS versions, are not sold virtually at all now. Come to any dealership to look at the new optics, around which there was so much controversy.


Unlike ordinary liftbacks from Nizhny Novgorod, you can order the Octavia RS with absolutely any body color from the existing palette. New to it is an unusual and very modern glossy gray. A wolfish color, immediately reminiscent of the saying about sheep's skin. Yes, in principle, it characterizes the Octavia RS as well as possible.

However, if you dream of RS-ke, then acquaintance with the optics of a conventional Octavia will give you not so much. A truly three-dimensional design of the front end, which no one likes in the photographs, but almost everyone is unambiguously lovable live, in the case of the RS it plays 100%. The black trim of the radiator grille (in a conventional car it is chrome-plated) makes it possible to fully implement the concept invented by the now former chief designer Josef Kaban. The "small" headlights - those closer to the radiator grille - do form a single "object" with it, and the Octavia RS looks wide, pinned to the ground, and therefore swift and aggressive. And very, very "adult", without a drop of playfulness.


For the Octavia RS, both mechanics and robots DSG are available. According to the manufacturer, the version with manual gearbox is faster (6.7 s to "hundreds" versus 6.8 s for DSG), but it is also designed for more advanced ones. For obvious reasons, it cannot have a Launch Control system, which helps to start from a place as efficiently as possible, automatically holding the optimal 3000 rpm while the driver presses both pedals to the floor, and smoothly spinning the engine after he releases the brake. And the stabilization system, which also controls traction, with a "handle" is a little less effective. On a car with a manual gearbox, it is much easier to get off the trajectory, going over with gas, while in the version with DSG, the system will choose the gear that is more correct in its opinion. Unless, of course, the driver prefers the manual mode, which is there, as before.

Like the usual "Octavia", the RS-ki restyling was not limited to a facelift. The car has received a lot of new equipment that changes the overall impression of communication with the car. Of course, for the better.


The standard brake discs allow the Octavia RS to be fitted with 17, 18 or 19 inch rims. The latter is a very extreme option, because even on 18-inch "rollers" the suspension seems almost furious even on the roads close to ideal in Austria. The markup is felt as the fifth point - and how!

The prefix RS is used to designate dynamic sports car versions. The Škoda Octavia model has two similar modifications: the Octavia RS liftback and the Octavia Combi RS station wagon. Their unique character is due to the equipment in the form of a 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine capable of delivering 230 hp. and a maximum speed of up to 245-250 km / h.

Futuristic design

Aerodynamic shapes and flying lines are the best match for the striking image and sporty character of these modifications. These cars, thanks to the rear track increased by 30 mm and the lowered sports suspension, which reduces the ground clearance by 29 mm in comparison with the basic version, are somewhat reminiscent of racing cars.

Among the expressive details of the exterior, one should highlight the spectacular bumpers (rear with a diffuser and front with impressive air intakes), an elegant spoiler, improved brakes with red calipers. Stylish light-alloy wheels provide an additional sporty accent. For the standard versions, the developers offer the 17 "version, in the optional mode, you can purchase 18" and 19 "discs.

The elegant design of the front area is defined by the original shape of the LED optics with AFS (adaptive lighting) element and the fog lights integrated into the bumper. The base version features sophisticated C-pattern taillights and LED license plate illumination.

The developers guarantee special pleasure to the owners of the Škoda Octavia RS versions due to the progressive equipment in the form of electronic stability monitoring system ESC, steering with variable gear ratio, and Driving Mode Selection (Comfort, Normal or Sport). In optional mode, users have access to a unique Performance Sound Generator to generate sports exhaust sounds.

Skoda Octavia RS 2013 - 2017, generation III

On March 14, 2014, Skoda Auto Russia announced the start of accepting orders for the third generation RS - the fastest modification of the Octavia. Previously, the Skoda Octavia RS was produced exclusively with a liftback body, but now a station wagon called the Combi RS was offered to customers.

The new, angularly fast-paced design of the car further emphasizes its sporty character. According to Za Rulem, in 2015, European sales of diesel versions of the Skoda Octavia RS began, some of which were even equipped with all-wheel drive. But their deliveries to Russia never started.
