At the Tokyo International Auto Show in the fall of 2004, Toyota organized an official demonstration of a completely new sedan called the Mark X with the in-house code “X120”, a direct successor to the legendary Mark II model, which not only changed its image, but also changed noticeably in technical terms.

In 2006, the car was slightly updated, having received minor improvements to the exterior and interior, after which it was produced until 2009.

The Toyota Mark X of the first generation looks attractive and very solid, and it “does not smell” of sportiness in its appearance. An assertive front end with “complex” optics and a chrome-plated “shield” of the radiator grille, a classic three-volume silhouette and a embossed stern with nice lamps and a massive bumper into which trapezoidal exhaust pipes are integrated - the car is harmonious, from whatever angle you look.

"Mark X" of the first generation is the "player" of the E-class according to European standards with the corresponding body dimensions: 4730 mm long, 1435 mm high and 1775 mm wide. Behind the weighty multifunctional steering wheel is a concise and informative instrument panel, and in the center of the dashboard there is a wide console with a color screen of a multimedia complex and an air conditioning unit.

Inside the "Mark X" of the first incarnation is comfortable and roomy. The front seats demonstrate a well-thought-out profile with well-developed sidewalls and have a wide range of adjustments, and the rear sofa is hospitably molded (although it is more suitable for two passengers due to the high floor tunnel).

In the "marching" form, the cargo compartment of the Toyota Mark X holds 437 liters of luggage. The backrests of the rear seats are individually thrown forward, which allows you to transport large or oblong objects in the "hold". A 6-speed automatic transmission with manual operation is responsible for delivering power to the rear wheels, resulting in a sedan requiring 8.4 liters of gasoline in mixed mode per 100 km.

The Toyota Mark X of the first generation is based on the Toyota N platform with a power unit located in the longitudinal plane and an independent chassis design on both axles. The front wheels of the car are suspended by means of a double-lever architecture, and a multi-link scheme is used in the rear part (stabilizers are installed “in a circle”).
As standard, the sedan is equipped with a rack and pinion steering system, in which a hydraulic control booster is implanted. The “Japanese” has disc brakes on all wheels, supplemented by ventilation in the front, with a set of modern “helpers” - ABS, EBD and Brake Assist.

Powerful engines, balanced driving characteristics, a high level of comfort and a reliable design - these are the main advantages of the Japanese "classic".
But the sedan also has disadvantages - expensive maintenance, sensitivity to the quality of gasoline and high fuel consumption.

Options and prices. Toyota Mark X is quite common in the Russian secondary market, and its prices start at 300 thousand rubles. All vehicle configurations, without exception, “flaunt” frontal airbags, power windows for all doors, dual-zone “climate”, audio system, ABS, EBD, BA, multifunctional steering wheel and much more.

In 2012, Toyota announced that an updated version of their second-generation Toyota Mark X sedan was coming out. This restyling turned out to be most welcome, since at that time three years had already passed since the second generation of the model entered the market. Of course, this version remains relevant in 2014-2015, and when the third generation will follow is not yet clear.

The car has long been very popular in Japan itself, and is also actively sold in Taiwan, China and other eastern countries. But the car got to Russia not so long ago. But better late than never at all. Therefore, we want to introduce you to this most interesting sedan, tell you about it in detail, look at it from all angles and understand what is so special about it, in addition to the right steering wheel.

Let's start with the fact that Toyota Mark X came to motorists as a replacement for the already legendary Toyota Mark 2. Five years after the debut of the tenth Mark, the company dared to release the second generation of its most interesting sedan.

It should be noted that Toyota Mark X belongs to class E, if we take European standards. It was created on a rear-wheel drive platform, but it has all-wheel drive as an option. But let's still start our acquaintance with the appearance, after which we will find out, among other things, the technical parameters.

Exterior

The appearance of Toyota Mark X is very original, attractive and insanely stylish. The front part received a beautiful LED-xenon optics, where the LEDs play the role of framing the main light. We also note the elegant false radiator grille with the company logo and the letter X, immersed in chrome. A trapezoidal air intake adorns the front spoiler, along the edges of which are fog lights. In principle, the front end is somewhat reminiscent of the current style of Lexus cars, made in the form of an hourglass, although a spool of thread was meant in honor of Toyota's first endeavors. However, Toyota's forms are not so intrusive, and therefore Mark X was in a more advantageous position.

The side view reveals three-volume proportions, a long hood, large swollen wheel arches, a flat roof, and a fairly light stern externally. In general, the profile of the car is wonderful and in many ways classically Japanese.

The stern looks no less beautiful than the front. Excellent and elegant optics, which can be seen with the naked eye from photo and video materials, plus competent bumper lines, unsurpassed marker lights, as well as a compact spoiler on the trunk complete the impeccable image of the sedan.

The choice of body color options is not so much. However, buyers will be able to choose from navy blue, silver, grey, white, black, pearl white and dark red body styles.

It would not be superfluous to clarify what dimensions a sports sedan from Japan has. And they at Mark X are as follows:

Interior

As it turned out, Mark X received a very strict, solid, but still attractive interior. Its interior cannot be called exemplary, since there are a number of manufacturers who have devoted more time and effort to design.

Toyota has no complaints about the salon and cannot be. Everything is made from high quality materials. The front seats received excellent lateral back support and pillows. Plus, they have a very attractive and useful feature for our customers. The fact is, if you remove the head restraints and lower the chairs back, you will have two full-fledged places to sleep in front of you, and the surface is almost perfectly flat and very comfortable.

In front of the driver there is a comfortable steering wheel, an Optitron dashboard, consisting of two pairs of large and small radii of instruments, each located in its own well. The center console is decorated with a large eight-inch touch screen, which is responsible for navigation and multimedia. Directly below the screen are climate control buttons.

If we talk about the rear row of seats, then it is not at all as anti-comfortable as many expected. On the contrary, the rear sofa provides a solid level of comfort and convenience. Which is true for two passengers. The third will not be particularly pleasant to sit, because in the middle not only a large transmission tunnel, but also the bulge of the sofa itself makes it difficult to sit comfortably. If two people sit there, then there will be more than enough space in all directions. Plus, we note comfortable armrests, where the control unit is located to change the inclination of the backrest. For each of the rear passengers, it is regulated separately.

As for the luggage compartment, it was a pleasant surprise. In its standard position, the trunk will accommodate 479 liters without any problems. At the same time, the rear row backrests can be folded, and then the space for loading luggage and other things will increase at least twice. Unfortunately, we don't know the exact numbers.

Equipment

Russian buyers can also get this right-hand drive sedan delivered directly from Japan. The car will cost from 1.4 million rubles. At the same time, it is important to note that delivery is carried out to Moscow, and the new car will be conditionally new, since it will have a mileage in its homeland, that is, in Japan, about 3-5 thousand kilometers. Officially, zero Marks X are not for sale with us yet. Perhaps the situation will change somewhat in the near future.

Specifications

As we have already said, the car is available for sale with all-wheel drive or only rear-wheel drive. Unfortunately, all-wheel drive Mark X can only be paired with a less powerful engine. Gearboxes - sequential six-speed automatic with intelligent control.

Both engines that are offered for the Toyota Mark X run on gasoline and have a direct fuel injection system.

The car uses all the horsepower very intelligently due to a properly tuned gearbox. Even when choosing a motor for 203 horsepower, it does not seem that this is not enough. Well, when under the hood of the Toyota Mark X there is an engine of three and a half liters and 318 horses, its sound asks you to press the accelerator pedal harder. In Japan, there is where to use the full potential of such a power unit, which cannot be said about Russia. Therefore, we have more relevant engines with a volume of two and a half liters.

Output

Impressions from the Toyota Mark X 2014 2015 are the most positive. The car evokes positive emotions when looking at its appearance, when examining the interior, and even when studying the technical characteristics. Yes, and the reviews of the owners clearly demonstrate that for true lovers of the beautiful, the right-hand drive is not a hindrance.

Unfortunately, nothing is really known yet regarding the possibility of an official Toyota plant in Russia. Still, although there are fans, some right-hand drive is a taboo. The body of the "second" Toyota Mark X with classic three-volume proportions flaunts a sophisticated, stylish and beautiful design. In the design of the front, attention is drawn to the original headlights and the X-shaped ornament on the grille, and the stern contains beautiful lights and a sculpted bumper with two “trunks” of the exhaust system. Yes, and in profile, the car is good thanks to a fairly dynamic shape with “pumped up” wheel arches.

  • Powerful versions are equipped with a 3.5-liter (3456 cubic centimeter) “aspirated” engine, producing a herd of 318 “heads” at 6400 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 4800 rpm. In the fall of 2016, the presentation of the updated Toyota Mark X sedan of the 2017 model year took place in Japan. The model received a modified exterior design and several new electronic assistants.

Outside, you can distinguish the restyled Toyota Mark X (2017-2018) from the pre-reform car by a different grille, a modified front bumper and upgraded headlights.

As for the technical equipment, all trim levels of the sedan additionally received an improved Safety Sense P package, consisting of adaptive cruise control, a traffic lane enforcement system, and a traffic sign recognition system.

In addition, a frontal collision avoidance function was included in this complex, which operates at speeds from 10 to 80 km / h. It recognizes other road users (cars and pedestrians) using the front camera and radar.

The facelifted 2017 Toyota Mark X continues to be offered with either a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 4GR-FSE engine producing 203 hp. and 243 Nm, or with a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated "six" 2GR-FSE, developing 318 "horses" and 380 Nm of torque. Both are paired with a six-speed automatic, and the drive can be not only rear, but also full.

In addition, the number of welding points and adhesive joints in the design of the car was increased, which made it possible to make the body stronger. In turn, this made it possible to make the model more comfortable, safer and more accurate in steering. In Japan, you can buy a new Mark X for between $24,000 and $35,000.

Updated Marx X 2013

At the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota introduced the Mark X sedan, and after almost three years, it's time to freshen up the exterior of a model that is in good demand in the domestic Japanese market.

The main changes of the novelty touched the front part, where a completely new bumper appeared, a different radiator grille and retouched optics of complex shape, in which sections of LED lights were registered. At the rear of the sedan, the bumper and lighting equipment were revised.

Interesting fact. In addition to the domestic market, Toyota Mark X is officially sold only in China, and in China the sedan is known as Toyota Reiz. But Marks are also loved in Russia, in the eastern part of our country there are many such cars brought from the Islands.

The automaker also clarifies that engineers have worked on the chassis settings for new items, improving handling and reducing noise levels through increased use of damping materials.

In addition to the basic version, the Mark X sedan is offered with a package from Gazoo Racing. Such a car flaunts a more aggressive front design with a narrow false radiator grill without an X-shaped insert, a huge air intake in the front bumper with chrome trim, side skirts, a rear spoiler, a diffuser and 19-inch wheels.

For the basic version of the Toyota Mark X sedan in Japan, they asked for 2,440,000 yen (24,400 euros), while the top version of the G's with a 3.5-liter engine was estimated at 4,200,000 yen (42,700 euros).
