It's about Mitsubishi Galant (9th generation). I don’t post photos - everyone knows the car, in principle, although it is not the most "promoted" of cars of this class.

1. Choosing a car.
I chose the car for a long time. I was only interested in the second-hand market, class D and E. Naturally, the choice in this class is not the largest, but still there is. The main priorities: a large, moderately powerful, automatic ("old", reliable), comfortable soft suspension, a reliable engine and generally the reliability and prostate of the main components ... Well, in general, nothing new, what more could you want from a car)))) Outwardly, I liked the Camry in the 40th body, Mitsubishi Galant, Hengday Grander, Nissan Tiana, and, perhaps, everything (right-hand drive: Mark and others did not consider, although Mark is certainly good). Skoda Superb, Chevrolet Epica, etc. did not like externally, so the technical part did not interest me so much.

2. Analysis of "practice".
I studied these cars for a long time in personal communication with the owners, read forums and reviews, etc. I will not write for a long time what I have figured out for myself, but one applicant dropped out (this is Nissan Tiana), there remained Camry, Hyundai Grander and Galant. Here the choice was more difficult, but still the Galant won in the price-quality ratio, he surpassed the Camry and Grander quite easily. I will not describe the agony of choosing between them.

3. External and internal appearance of the 9th generation Galant and the main characteristics.
There is a lot that has been said, written, not everyone will like the car outwardly. But if you look closely, there is nothing ugly about it, graceful smooth muscular forms, a "peasant" car in the full sense of the word. The ground clearance is 165 cm high, the length and the internally usable space are huge, the trunk is large and comfortable. Engine 2.4, reliable to be put on Mitsubishi for a long time, there are no complaints about it, pulls very cheerfully. The weight of the car is very impressive 1650 kg. I am a supporter of "heavy" cars - safety is above all. Despite the fact that the Camry is lighter, and there are a little more horses, but the galant is still faster (the owners of the Camry themselves admitted this), apparently this is the merit of not only the engine but also the machine, but more about it later. Inside, everything is very laconic, but at the same time materials of excellent quality are "rich", I don’t know how in the basic configuration, but in the "maximum speed" (leather, sunroof, Rockford audio system), everything is very pleasant, the "plastic" is worn out (in fact, not plastic) perforated rubberized moderately soft material, I have not seen anything like this anywhere. No creaks, no gaps at all. The assembled car is simply amazing. Even many premium classes of the present time (mainly assembled in our country) and even this build quality is not The seats are very comfortable, the driver is electrically regulated in all planes. The quality of the leather is very good. The music "rockfrod" is on top (relatively of course))) ).

4. Cars in motion.
It's just a fairy tale. Smooth running, Shumka and overall comfort are just super for a car in this price range. Yes, the CAMRIVODs will forgive me, but in the smoothness and overall comfort, the Galant wins, that's why I chose him and not the Camry. The car just floats, the road, or rather its absence, is not felt, the suspension just swallows it does not break through, I have not seen such a suspension in cars of this class, it is better only for 120 pradics, but this is a different car and a lot has already been said about it. An automatic transmission is something with something, it switches smoothly at all, it is not noticeable, although it is 4 st., But very cool in everything, it and the engine understand others from a half-word, the relationship is excellent. The speed is felt only after 140-150 km / h, the power reserve is large. I'm not a racer, but the car, if necessary, picks up speed very quickly when overtaking and other extreme conditions, there is also a manual gear shift mode. There was a case changed with a friend for a while: he Camry I told him a galant. He turned out to be an honest man, admitted that he liked everything on the Galante more, especially in the suspension, and so I ask: "what else," he says: "Well, you know, you can't explain it ... -like in everything in general. .. "I got it. Well, you know how in love you can't explain what you love for, or like in an old lobrom movie: "well, unless you tell a song ..." .))) The engine and gearbox are Japanese and so on ... The car was completely assembled in the USA, and even though we don't like America there, the cars, especially at that time, were assembled very efficiently.

5. The ending.
you can write a lot more. For me, there is only one conclusion. There are no competitors for a car in this price category in this class (at least for me). In 2007-2008, the Camry at maximum speed cost about 850 thousand rubles, a galant at maximum speed about 820 thousand rubles. That is, the new cars are close in price. Now the average price of a solid 07-08 Camry is 600 tr, a solid galant 450 tr. Everything suggests that the Toyota brand is more popular and loses less in price. But this does not mean the "true" price of the car.

The 158 engine does not have crazy dynamics, so it is better not to race it "at a traffic light". This car was created with the American consumer in mind. In general, the car can be described as soft and imposing. These qualities are present literally in every detail. But this does not mean that fast driving is prohibited.

The automatic transmission INVECS-II adjusts itself to the individual driving style of the driver. In dynamic mode, each of the gears rotates to the red zone, and during the throttle release, the box continues to hold speed, slowly switch to a higher stage in order to respond in time to pressing the accelerator pedal. In a quiet driving mode, passengers should not even notice gear changes.


Mitsubishi Galant 9 has a battery with increased capacity, more than 70% of all parts are galvanized, the bottom has a partial anti-corrosion coating. Once upon a time, in the late 1980s, the Mitsubishi Galant was one of the sportiest sedans in its class. It offered steerable rear wheels and a powerful turbocharged version, the VR4. Subsequent generations became more comfort-oriented, and interest in the model dropped noticeably. A brief revival took place in 1997 when the eighth Galante debuted with an attractive dynamic look. Top-end versions with a 3.8-liter V6 are extremely rare in Russia and there is little information on them. The V6 is the same used in the Mitsubishi Pajero IV and Endeavor. There, the engine has proven itself on the positive side. True, there are isolated cases of loosening of the fastening screws of the flaps in the intake manifold and subsequent ingress into the cylinders. And after 150-200 thousand km, due to the natural aging process, attachments begin to fail gradually.

Transmission

Mitsubishi Galant does not suffer from any serious illnesses. Malfunctions are usually age-related. True, in the event of repairs, you will have to fork out pretty much - new original parts are often unjustifiably expensive. Fortunately, there are plenty of substitutes on the market.

The current Mitsubishi Galant - not so much a Japanese car as an American one - is completely unnecessary for Europe. In Europe, no one is waiting for Galant, but we (in the automotive sense), although not America, but certainly not Europe. Remembering the still beloved previous generations of Mitsubishi Galant, which we drove, we drive, and will continue to drive for a long time, everyone asked: "When?" Russia is an important market for Mitsubishi, and our opinion cannot be ignored. So we got what we wanted.

It is unlikely that the evaluation of the design of the 9th generation Mitsubishi Galant will be news: it (especially in the front end) is strange, incomprehensible and for some even simply - ugly. A massive hump in the middle of the bonnet, an inexpressive radiator grill, but most importantly - the headlights! Headlights (where are you - the adorable squinting stripes of Mitsubishi Galant light elements of previous generations?) Have replaced some kind of quadrangles from the Volga.

One of the executives of the Mitsubishi distributor noted that so far Galant is selling slightly worse than expected. Obviously, in the first months of Russian sales, most of those who were waiting for Mitsubishi Galant (and many were waiting for him) simply did not have time to try the car on the move - which means that they only appreciated the appearance. And their appearance did not suit their taste. The design of the 9th generation Mitsubishi Galant (2004) has absolutely nothing to do with the style of the previous Mitsubishi Galant.

But they are greeted by their clothes, and seen off ... On the road, the opinion about the car becomes much better.
Firstly, a huge interior is hidden behind the controversial exterior of the car.
Secondly, all controls in Mitsubishi Galant are clear and in place; with an abundance of options, you do not feel that you are inundated with information. There are a little more buttons in the Mitsubishi Galant than in the Lancer, despite the much more modest configuration of the latter. Not too good only: too large steering wheel and radio buttons that do not fit into the center console. Here again the designers were not up to par.
Thirdly, the car pleased us with convenient details. The main thing is: an electric driver's seat with a wide range of adjustments, clear parking sensors and a wide armrest with a spacious box.
Fourth, and this is the main thing: Mitsubishi Galant is very good on the move. The car is controlled just fine, although the steering wheel itself is not the most comfortable in girth. The engine and "box" work almost perfectly, although many will want more agility from such a machine. The moderately stiff suspension, which provides decent comfort, is good both on the straight line and in corners. Mitsubishi bites into the road, maintaining good stability on any reasonable trajectory.

But I don’t want to dash behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Galant - it’s not easy to “light up” it. The adaptive “automatic” adjusts to the driver, but does not give him extra freedom.

America saw the new Mitsubishi Galant in April 2003, while we only saw it 3 years later. Residents of the US and Canada can opt for a 3.8-liter 230-horsepower V6, while we only have a 2.4-liter 158-horsepower unit. The new Mitsubishi Galant was almost entirely developed in the States and for the States: design in California, technology in Michigan, assembly in Illinois. It is not hard to guess what country Mitsubishi residents were seen sitting in the driver's and passenger seats of Galant.

Bottom line: the car could be better. Under the hood there could be a 3.8-liter engine and a manual transmission, novice drivers would be happy with the ESP system. And the Japanese could also entrust their own specialists with design. But how long would it take to prepare such a Mitsubishi Galant, and will we need it this way?

So I decided to write a review after 2 years of owning this miracle. General emotions from the car are good. I call it a "ship" - large (huge interior), heavy (on the highway like a tank), and, of course, clumsy (large turning radius - you have to get used to the dimensions).

The engine and the gearbox are an excellent combination, those who write about poor dynamics are disingenuous, since the gearbox (an ancient proven 4-speed automatic) is adaptive (if you constantly press, it tears, if it is constantly quiet, then it adapts and starts to hesitate, save fuel).

In general, the engine, gearbox and suspension are very reliable and proven. The salon is large and comfortable. The suspension is soft and comfortable. There are enough dynamics (acceleration is from 60 to 100 km / h, which is from 100 to 140 km / h - smooth). Great music (Roquefort) but no USB. Great family car!

Disadvantages, but what about without them:
1. Fuel consumption: city 15 liters, highway 10-11, blessing that eats 92nd.
2. Dimensions (well, what do you want with a length of under 5 meters).
3. The trunk is average, although the stroller fits, and there is still enough space.
4. After 3.5 thousand. Engine is audible (made Shumkov hood and engine).

A new one was taken from the salon, like a workhorse, for everyday driving, in any weather. I would like to note the reliability of this machine. In three years, she covered 127 thousand km of different roads in the impassable expanses of Ukraine. Only consumables were changed, the replacement of which was required by the warranty. I left the guarantee for 80 thousand km.

Hardy, moderately soft and moderately stiff suspension. The comrade compared with his Mercedes E-class for 90 thousand cu. e. He noted the good energy content of the suspension. Stable and maneuverable on steep turns, descents and ascents at a speed of 150-160 km / h. Holds well at 180-190 km / h in a straight line.

Spacious salon, children literally walk around it. There is enough trunk. I would like a little more horses, but there is enough motor on the tracks. In the city, I would like more lightness and agility in the steering wheel, but it is made for the track.

Consumption is acceptable, it all depends on how to press the pedal. The main thing is that it consumes what is declared. Lil mainly 95th gasoline. Sometimes the second was flooded, but immediately felt a difference in the engine's operation. With our quality of gasoline on the highways, it is better to pour a good 95th, less consumption and the machine runs faster, and most importantly smoothly. The brakes are completely satisfactory.

Cons:

- "Bugs" in the cabin, even in a new car;
- The lack of an on-board computer, however, you get used to it, the main thing is not to forget to fill up the fuel when the sensor lights up;
- Large triangular dead zones in the area of ​​mirrors, a couple of times I lost sight of other road users in them;
- Large turning radius in the city, when driving on paving stones, there is a slight rattling in the steering wheel, a little unpleasant.
- In the front passenger seat, the torpedo drops down at an angle and for a tall person the shoes rest against it.
- In winter, a lot of sand flies from under the front wheels on the sprinkled roads and sweeps strongly the bends in the lower part of the rear doors and arches, the noise from this is strong.
- Appearance - the front end is in doubt, but otherwise I even like it.
