The electric drive for ventilation is designed to regulate the air flow in the ventilation duct. The drive is mounted on the air damper valve shaft, i.e. throttle using the included mounting kit. There are several main types of electric drives: standard and spring return.
The main manufacturers of electric drives are Gruner, Belimo, Polar Bear, Siemens and Lufberg.
Gruner
Gruner- a world leader in the production of electric drives for various purposes. The production plant is located in Europe in the German city of Wechingem . The Gruner range of electric drives includes drives for ventilation and heating systems.
Produced electric drives:
- Standard(without return spring):
- With return spring for emergency protection of ventilation systems with a water heater.
Belimo
Swiss company specialization Belimo- production of electric drives for ventilation and heating systems of the highest quality. The warranty provided for all products is 5 years.
The range of electric drives includes:
- Standard drives;
- Actuators with return spring (for operation during an emergency);
- With built-in capacitor (for operation during an emergency);
- High speed;
- Linear;
- With high moisture protection class IP66/67.
Let's look at the types of drives in more detail.
Standard electric drives for ventilation
When used in an electric ventilation system, a standard electric drive can be used for ventilation or an electric drive without a return spring, but using a ducted water heater - must be used with a protective emergency function - an electric drive with a return spring, or a drive with a built-in capacitor. The use of such drives is necessary to prevent the penetration of cold, street air into the duct, and further freezing of the heat exchanger in the event of an emergency power outage.
Standard electric drive for ventilation or a drive without a return spring will leave the channel damper open during a power outage, i.e. in the original place.
With return spring(with protective function)
In a drive with a return spring, mechanical energy is accumulated (spring charging) when the damper is rotated to the operating position, and the accumulated energy is released for emergency closure.
With built-in capacitor(with protective function)
An alternative to the standard spring return drive is a more expensive and functional drive with a built-in capacitor. When such a drive is connected to the electrical network, the accumulation of the electric charge necessary to close the air valve occurs. Electric drive for ventilation with a capacitor allows you to adjust the position of the damper in any desired position, these can be extreme or intermediate points.
The air damper drive is available with different rotation force options, which are selected according to the cross-sectional area, air flow speed and damper seal density.
Selection of the required rotation force of the air drive depending on the cross-sectional area of the damper

2 | 0,4 |
5 | 1,0 |

The electric drive for air damper ventilation is available with a 24 V or 220 V connection, depending on the use of the controller.
Positioner
For remote control of an electric drive with an analog signal from 0-10 V, positioners. Available in three types: built-in, surface-mounted, for mounting on a DIN rail.

Dimensional characteristics of the air valve actuator
Before you buy an air damper drive used in ventilation and air conditioning systems, you need to know the structure of the damper itself or, as it is also called, a throttle valve. This duct part is designed specifically to adjust and provide the necessary air separation in ventilation ducts.
With the help of dampers, both the entire ventilation system (air conditioning system) and its elements are controlled and adjusted.
Air throttle device
The design of this shut-off and control mechanism consists of a frame that follows the contour of the air duct section (round or rectangular). It has a rotating axis to which is attached a blade capable of covering the entire channel, or several parallel blades, each of which has its own axis. One of the ends of the rotary axis goes out through the side edge of the frame. The air damper valve actuator is connected to this end, which can be:
- Electromagnetic;
- Pneumatic;
- Hydraulic;
- Manual (simple handle).
The frame is built into the channel as a separate shaped element in the form of a flange or superimposed (if the channel walls are flat) like a grating. By turning the axis, the closing and opening of the channel is adjusted.
When the damper resembles a device similar to blinds, it has not one rotary axis, but several. Each of them is brought out at one end, and all are connected to a common draft.
Types of air dampers
The price of the air damper actuator directly, where it is planned to be installed. In turn, throttle valves are divided into groups:
- Air dampers - for ventilation of warehouses, industrial premises and other economic facilities. Operate at temperatures not exceeding 80 0 C, pressure up to 1500 Pa;
- Fire dampers are fire-retardant, constantly open, and smoke dampers, constantly closed;
- Explosion-proof - work in explosive areas. The design of such a damper eliminates sparking during the operating cycle;
- Unified - the most popular, used in air conditioning and ventilation ducts of ordinary civil premises.
Types of damper actuators
Having become acquainted with the characteristics of air equipment, it becomes clear that each specific damper requires a special drive.
In St. Petersburg, you can buy a Siemens drive by choosing the one that suits your specific case:
- Mechanical with manual drive, with a rotary axis equipped with a handle. Marked with the letter P, used extremely rarely;
- Throttle valve with electric drive - its body has a servo drive that drives the rotary axis. Usually installed in large cross-section air ducts. Marking - letter E;
- Dampers with pneumatic drive.
In addition to this, Siemens drives are divided into:
