The volume of oil poured into the engine depends on various parameters, including the working volume of the power plant. Often, the amount of lubricant depends on the quality of the consumable, as well as its compatibility with the engine of a particular car model. In this article, using the example of the popular Renault Scenic car, we will consider how to correctly calculate the volume of liquid to be filled in, and how to choose it correctly.

Renault has established a replacement schedule, which for the Fluence model is 15-20 thousand kilometers. It is advisable to reduce the replacement interval if the machine is operated in difficult climatic zones, or on roads of specific quality. Any external factor can adversely affect the life of the useful properties of the oil, and this may affect the reliability of the power plant. Therefore, in difficult conditions, it is advisable to change engine oil much more often than stipulated by the regulations - for example, every 10 thousand kilometers.

How much to fill

To determine how much liquid to fill in the engine, for this, first of all, it is necessary to proceed from the working volume of the power plant. Recall that the Renault Fluence engine range consists of four gasoline engines, they require different amounts of lubricant:

  • 1.6 K4M 839, K4M 838 - 4.8 liters
  • 1.6 HR16DE-H4M - 4.3 liters
  • 2.0 MR200DE M4R - 4.4 liters
  • 1.5 K9K - 4.5 liters

The indicated volume of oil cannot be poured in in all cases, but only at the dealership. Under specialized conditions, the engine is subjected to comprehensive cleaning - from oil residues, mud deposits, metal chips, etc. Thus, it is possible to completely empty a special reservoir, into which new oil is then poured. At home, you have to be content with a partial oil change, in which you will not be able to fully clean the engine. As an option, experienced motorists offer their proven method - a partial replacement in several stages. 3-4 times are enough, and the engine components will be cleaned of mud deposits, and then new oil can be poured in in the specified volume.

How to check volume

Checking the oil volume is a simple procedure for which it is not necessary to resort to the help of a dealership. So, to check the fluid level, you need to use a dipstick. It is located in the engine compartment, in a special oil filler hole. You need to carefully pull out the dipstick, and look at the imprint of the liquid. If the level is below the Min mark, then you will have to add a little oil. An exception may be the case if the liquid has become dark in color and contains mud deposits - in this situation, you will first have to drain the old oil, and then pour in a new consumable.

Choosing an oil

For Renault Fluence, it is preferable to fill in the original oil from Elf. So, in this case, we can advise Elf SXR oil with viscosity parameters 5W-30 and 5W-40. In addition, domestically produced Lukoil Genesis 5W-40 analogue oil has proven itself well in Russian conditions.

Also among the best manufacturers of oils are the brands Mobile, Shell, Kixx, Rosneft, Valvoline and others.

Conclusion

As you can see, when choosing engine oil, it is important to pay attention not only to the parameters, but also how much oil to fill. This is very important, since underfilling or overfilling can lead to serious consequences for the motor. In addition, it is necessary to control the volume of liquid in a timely manner, and add oil if the level is insufficient.

Renault Fluence is a compact C-class car with a very unusual design and decent technical characteristics. The car is quite comfortable and reliable, which is confirmed by the positive feedback from real Fluence owners. In addition, the model cannot be called complex in terms of design, which allows you to independently perform some maintenance procedures. But at the same time, many owners have questions about the choice of engine oil for Renault Fluence. This is a more responsible procedure than the process of changing the oil itself. How to choose the right oil, consider the example of Renault Fluence with a 1.6-liter engine.

First you need to decide on the frequency of changing the oil. The fact is that the frequency of replacement depends not only on the official regulations, but also on other factors - for example, operating conditions, as well as the condition of the oil. Consider a few points by which we can confidently say that it is time to change the oil.

  1. The oil has become dark in color, stinks of burning and contains metal shavings
  2. Insufficient level of remaining oil
  3. Transmissions are delayed
  4. Increased fuel consumption
  5. Engine power drop

Conclusion

So, to choose the right fluid for the Renault Fluence engine, you need to pay attention to the viscosity index, as well as the so-called API, which indicates the quality of the oil. All these options are in the user manual. For gasoline engines of the 2013 model year, it is better to use multigrade synthetic oil, with parameters 10W-50, as well as API - SN. For Renault Fluence of the 2017 sample, it is preferable to fill in synthetics with parameters 0W-50 SN.

The car first appeared on our markets more than 2 years ago. If we talk about technical parameters, then there are no significant differences from the third Megan, moreover, the construction platform is identical - Nissan C. Renault Fluence Arsenal - aspirated 1.6 liters and 2.0. It was the 1.6-liter units that gained immense popularity. How will be discussed in this material.

Do I need to flush the lubricant before changing the oil?

First, the need to flush the lubricant in the 1.6 engine is determined using special preparations. It all depends on the conditions in which the machine is operated. For example, if it is from 3 to 5 years old, its mileage does not exceed 100 thousand kilometers, its operating conditions cannot be called difficult, and the oil itself was modern and of high quality, then flushing is not necessary. In other cases, it is still recommended to carry out a similar procedure.

Before the final decision to make a do-it-yourself replacement, remove the cap that closes the oil filler neck, look inside. If you see that metal parts are covered with a black opaque layer, then unacceptable deposits have formed. If you don’t know what the car’s mileage is, or it exceeds 100 thousand kilometers, and the oil used is not of the highest quality, the replacement schedule was not followed, then be sure to flush to avoid unpleasant malfunctions!

What needs to be prepared

  • motor oil;
  • filter;
  • new o-rings for drain plugs in the engine sump;
  • trough.

After preparation, you can begin to work. Remember that the car must be in a horizontal position.

Steps in the replacement procedure

  • open the cap leading to the oil filler neck;
  • substitute a trough for collection to the drain hole;
  • clean the entire surface near the cork and unscrew it;
  • to make access to the filter easy, the protective screen is removed from the fuel rail (it is fixed with nuts, to remove, use the wrench 13);
  • unscrew the filter by hand, you can also use a puller;
  • this is followed by a thorough cleaning of all surfaces that got oil when it was drained, followed by the installation of new parts;
  • before installing a new filter, lubrication of the sealing ring and threads is necessary, the filter is tightened by hand, no tools are used;
  • install a plug that closes the drain hole, after replacing the sealing ring;
  • then fill in the oil using a funnel (be careful, because even the factory manuals make mistakes in the amount needed for the engine; first try to fill in the same amount as it was drained, and top up in small doses, check the level with a dipstick, you need not to add a little to the maximum mark);
  • install all the parts that were filmed, try to start the engine.

Checking the result

The controller reporting emergency oil pressure goes out with a slight delay, this is quite a natural phenomenon. If during the first 5 seconds it does not go out, turn off the engine and proceed to find out the reasons for the decrease in pressure.

When no deviations are found, start the 1.6 gasoline engine again, let it run for about 5 minutes, then turn it off and check the oil level after the same time interval. If it is above the maximum mark, drain the excess.

Inspect the places where the filter meets the drain plug for leaks. If no problems are found, the replacement is correct. By the way, some manufacturers attach special branded stickers to each package, with which you can record the number of kilometers traveled with the date of replacement. As a rule, it is placed either under the hood of the vehicle or inside its interior.

So, as we can see, replacing a motor Renault is not such a complicated procedure, you can do it yourself. However, in addition to saving your money, there is a risk of damaging your vehicle, so this business should be taken seriously.

The failure of the Renault Megane II was the starting point for a new compact car to quickly replace its uncompetitive predecessor. In 2009, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Fluence prototype, created on the platform of Renault Scenic, Megan and Nissan C, was demonstrated to the public. Today, a family sedan with affordable prices is easily recognized by the unusual shape of the front body.

In Russia, sales of new items started in the spring of 2010. Then a choice of petrol configurations with 1.6 engines (105-114 hp, average fuel consumption - 6.4-8.4 liters per 100 km) and 2.0 liters (138 and 143 hp, mixed consumption - 8.7 liters) were presented, after which a diesel version with a 1.5-liter power plant was added to the range. The following indicates which oil must be poured into the listed motors.

Fluence received its first update in 2012, the second - in 2015. After restyling, the same reliable and affordable golf-class car, but with a slightly redesigned appearance, stopped before buyers. Changes in design were a forced step towards a new corporate style of the car. The presentation of the restyled version of 2012 took place at the Istanbul Motor Show. Key features include a larger chrome badge on the front bumper, standard daytime running lights, xenon headlights, and a new CVT that replaces the already outdated automatic. Among other things, the new Fluence has a 530-liter trunk, a comfortable spacious interior, a fairly high ground clearance (due to prudent adaptation to the peculiarities of Russian roads, it was increased by 4 cm). The main drawback of the model is relatively weak engines and illiquidity in the secondary market.

At the moment, Opel is actively developing the second generation of the model.

Generation 1 (2009 - present):

Engine Renault K4M 1.6 l. 16 valves 110 hp

  • What engine oil is poured from the factory (original): 5W-40
  • Types (by viscosity): 5W-30, 5W-40
  • How many liters of oil in the engine (total volume): 4.5 liters.
  • When to change oil: 15000

Engine Nissan-Renault HR16DE-H4M 1.6 l. 114 HP

  • What engine oil is poured from the factory (original): 5W-30
  • Types (by viscosity): 5W-30, 5W-40, 0W-30, 0W-40, 10W-30, 10W-40, 10W-60, 15W-40
  • How many liters of oil in the engine (total volume): 4.3 liters.
  • Oil consumption per 1000 km: up to 500 ml.
  • When to change oil: 7500-15000

By purchasing a vehicle, the motorist is counting on the long-term operation of the machine. However, if you do not monitor the condition of the car's mechanisms, its service life will not exceed the warranty period. One of the mandatory procedures for extending the operational period of the vehicle is to protect the engine elements from overheating and increased friction. For this purpose, regular replacement of engine oil is carried out.

But in what cases and how often is a lubricant change required in a Renault Fluence engine? What brand of oil is suitable for this purpose? How to properly prepare for replacing engine lubricant in a Renault Fluence engine? How to change the oil in the car system of the model in question with your own hands? What is the difference between the procedure for updating the technical fluid in the Renault Megan model and the similar process for Renault Fluence? Let's talk about it in the article.

When is an oil change required in a Renault Fluence engine?

The Renault Fluence engine oil change regulation states that it is necessary to renew the lubricant at least once a year (every 5,000 - 15,000 kilometers). However, in some cases, changing the engine oil may be needed much more frequently. For replacement interval technical substance in the Renault Fluence engine the following factors influence:

  • Features of the climate and landscape of the area on the territory of which the vehicle is operated;
  • Driving style preferred by the driver. If the car owner is keen on extreme driving, oil and fuel are consumed very quickly;
  • The state of systems, assemblies and individual parts of Renault Fluence. The negative factor in this case is the deterioration and obsolescence of the elements of the vehicle;
  • The quality and level of engine oil, as well as its compatibility with a particular vehicle.

In its turn, signs of the need to update the technical fluid in the motor system of the vehicle are the following phenomena and factors:

  • A pronounced smell of burning soot, felt even in the Renault Fluence cabin;
  • An increase in oil density, the appearance of heterogeneity and heavy sediment;
  • The appearance of metal chips and other foreign particles in the composition of the applied motor lubricant;
  • Changing the color shade of the technical fluid used to darker and rusty;
  • Extraneous sounds and pronounced vibration of the engine while driving;
  • Changing the behavior of Renault Fluence on the road. In particular, right in the process of driving, the engine may fail.

You can check the quality of the technical fluid used by comparing a drop of a used sample with a fresh substance of the same brand.

Measuring the lubricant level with a dipstick

Keep in mind that problems with the behavior of the vehicle during driving may indicate a decrease in the oil level. The reasons for this phenomenon can be either a leak resulting from mechanical damage to Renault Fluence (for example, an accident) or wear of engine parts, or increased operation of the machine. If you suspect a leak or a decrease in the level of engine lubricant in Renault Fluence, you can check the oil with a dipstick. The probe is a built-in meter with a characteristic measuring scale. To check the technical fluid in the Renault Fluence engine, you should:

  • Pull out the probe;
  • Clean the meter from oil residues with a paper towel;
  • Re-immerse the dipstick in the engine fluid;
  • Remove the part and inspect the scale.

If the engine oil level in the Renault Fluence engine is between the maximum and minimum pointer, this is the norm. If the amount of technical fluid does not reach the minimum mark or is equal to it, an urgent topping up of lubricant is necessary.

What oil to replace?

The main parameter when choosing a motor lubricant for Renault Fluence is the viscosity of the oil. The preferred viscosity level is 5W30 and 5W40, but how to choose the right technical fluid for the engine of the model in question? Motor lubricants can be divided into 2 categories:

  • Original- produced by the Renault concern or a manufacturing company cooperating with it;
  • Analog- other substances suitable for pouring into a Renault vehicle engine.

Of the original substances, experienced motorists recommend ELF SXR 5W30 or ELF 5w40 SXR. Suitable types of analog oils are Lukoil GENESIS 5W40 or Motul with the appropriate viscosity level.

Volume the material to be poured depends on the modification of the Renault Fluence engine:

  • Volume 1.6 (K4M 838, K4M 839) - 4.8 liters (modification HR16DE-H4M - 4.3 liters);
  • 2.0 (MR20DE / M4R) - 4.4 liters;
  • 1.5 (K9K) - 4.5 liters.

Thus, for any modification of the Renault Fluence engine, approximately 5 liters of engine lubricant will be needed.

Preparation for work

Before working with the Renault Fluence engine lubrication system, the car owner should prepare necessary tools and accessories, namely:

  • Jack or lift for manipulating the vehicle;
  • pliers;
  • A set of wrenches and screwdrivers;
  • Rags, synthetic towels or other materials for wiping parts;
  • Bucket, canister or any other container for draining obsolete material;
  • A tool for pouring fresh engine oil into a Renault Fluence engine (watering can, filling syringe, funnel).

Simultaneously with the preparation of tools, it is necessary to prepare the territory on which the work will be carried out. To change engine oil, you will need an absolutely flat and horizontal surface, which can be provided using a flyover or garage pit. The car must be positioned so that there is enough space for a person under its body.

Important to consider! The main feature of the lubrication systems of cars of the brand in question is that the waste should be drained when the engine is hot. However, the oil in the Renault Fluence engine should not be brought to the extreme boiling point, that is, up to 120 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, the car owner risks serious hand burns. In order to avoid thermal injuries, it is also recommended to carry out work on changing the oil in the Renault Fluence engine in tight construction-type gloves.

Do-it-yourself oil change in a Renault Fluence engine

Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil in a Renault Fluence engine provided below:

  • Warming up the motor (no longer than 5 minutes);
  • Location under the oil drain of the disposal tank;
  • Remove the mudguard from the fuel rail;
  • Filter replacement. To do this, it is necessary to release the obsolete filter element by unscrewing the fastening bolts with a 13 wrench, clean all adjacent surfaces and mount a new filter;
  • Opening the drain cover. For better drainage, you can also open the plug at the filler hole;
  • Waiting for a complete drain of oil from the Renault Fluence engine system;
  • Change the gasket and sealing washer on the oil drain plug. The obsolete gasket is dismantled, the surface under it is wiped, a new gasket is mounted. Then the oil drain plug is screwed back and fastened with a washer;
  • Pouring fresh oil into the Renault Fluence engine using a syringe, funnel or watering can. Oil is poured until the moment when its excess begins to overflow through the filler neck;
  • Closing the filling plug;
  • Checking the elements of the cooling system for leaks, depressurization and other problems. For this purpose, the car engine starts for 10-15 minutes. During this procedure, at the same time, excess air is removed that has entered the system when draining and filling the technical fluid.

After the above procedures, it is possible to carry out an additional measurement of the level of the technical fluid using a dipstick. If necessary, the missing substance can be topped up.

Changing the oil in a Renault Megan 2 and 3 engine

The do-it-yourself procedure for changing the oil in a Renault Megan 2 engine, as well as the procedure for updating engine lubricant in Megan 3 Hatchback, is no different from the corresponding process in Renault Fluence.

For general reference, below are the differences and similarities between Megan and Fluence:

Features of the choice of oil, as well as individual nuances when working with each specific car, are indicated in the technical manual for the vehicle.
