Oil prices have been rising every year for decades. is growing even stronger - partly due to the financial crisis. Thus, operating a car is becoming more and more expensive and many drivers are thinking that it is time to get behind the wheel of a more economical car. The rating was compiled in order to evaluate the market for vehicles with the lowest fuel consumption - both conventional, with internal combustion engines, and hybrids, which in addition have an electric motor.

Obviously, purchasing a car is the first expense in a long series. In the long term, fuel will be the main reason for wasting the budget. Many engineering companies, seeing the demand for fuel-efficient cars, have created models that consume the least amount of mixture. In the production of such machines they use the following principles:

  • body weight reduction;
  • improving the aerodynamic properties of the car;
  • increased efficiency and increased specific engine power;
  • reduction in engine volume;
  • reduction in horsepower;
  • reduction of rolling resistance when driving. Due to the permissible deformation of the tire, driving can consume 30% more energy than the engine produces.

The introduction of a set of such measures allows for extremely low consumption. An example of this is the Peugeot 308 BlueHDI 120, which consumes only 3.1 liters per 100 km.

It is also interesting that the most economical in terms of energy consumption emit the least amount of harmful waste into the atmosphere. This is explained by the fact that they create less exhaust overall, and also, as a rule, have a more advanced engine operating mechanism.

Of course, engine efficiency directly affects the driving performance of the car. It becomes less maneuverable compared to analogues, and also often increases in price.

Of course, a classic internal combustion engine cannot compete with modern hybrid power plants in terms of fuel consumption, but the mass distribution of the latter is hampered by two factors: more and certain inconveniences with recharging batteries.

But gasoline engines cannot yet compete on equal terms with their diesel counterparts in terms of efficiency: the latter consume less fuel and cost less than gasoline. So let's start with cars equipped with diesel power units.

Top 20 most economical diesel passenger cars

This three-seater hatchback, equipped with a 95-horsepower 1.3-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission, consumes 3.2 liters, and this is the most impressive figure for a mass-produced car. So the first place in the top 20 most economical diesel cars in terms of fuel consumption was awarded to this particular car.

The estimated cost of this Corsa modification is from 770,000 rubles.

The power unit is characterized by a torque of 185 Nm, consumption in the city is 3.4 liters, on the highway - 3.0 liters.

Actually, Cactus is the name of a configuration, not a model. French engineers managed the almost impossible - to equip the car with a 1.6-liter engine, the appetite of which is lower than that of many 1.2-1.3-liter counterparts (on average 3.5 liters).

The power of this power unit is 92 horsepower and torque is 230 Nm. Consumption when driving in the city is 3.8 liters, on the highway - 3.4 liters. You can buy a Cactus for 875,000 rubles.

It is still possible to find one with a 1.1-liter 75-horsepower power unit, but it is worth considering that today the production of modifications equipped with such an engine has been discontinued. So if you manage to find such a sedan, do not refuse such a purchase. Moreover, such a sedan costs from 700 thousand rubles.

Rio consumption: city - 4.1 l., highway - 3.3 l., mixed cycle - 3.6 l.

The famous British brand has a new owner. Currently it is already the property of BMW. And although cars from Foggy Albion have never been distinguished by mediocre quality, now it is complemented by an affordable price - from 1.04 million rubles.

For this money you will become the owner of a modification with a 1.5-liter 95-horsepower engine, consuming 3.6 liters. diesel fuel (3.2/4.0 highway/city respectively).

Oddly enough, the Bavarian automaker also has economical cars. In particular, a 3- or 5-door hatchback equipped with a 1.5-liter 116-horsepower unit. This youngest member of the family can consume only 3.6 liters. diesel fuel (city – 4.1, highway – 3.4 l/100 km). Such a car costs from 1.3 million rubles - a little expensive, but this is famous German quality, the most reliable and economical car in our review!

Another German, and who is not particularly popular in the vastness of the Russian Federation. But if you are interested in efficiency (and who isn’t interested in it these days?), then you should pay attention to the modification with a 1.6-liter 110-horsepower engine. With such a car you will not consume more than 3.7 liters of diesel fuel (in the city - 4.2, on the highway - 3.3 l/100 km). True, Astra costs from 1.1 million rubles.

If you want to purchase the most economical configuration of this model, then it will again be a hatchback with a 1.6-liter 120-horsepower power unit capable of developing up to 300 Nm. moment. Your diesel fuel costs will average 3.8 liters per hundred km. (4.5 – in urban conditions, 3.4 – on the highway). You can buy the 308th Peugeot for 970,000 rubles.

Don't let this model name confuse you. This is not Chinese. DS is the premium brand of the Citroen brand. The car has been sold since 2011; a hatchback with a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 120 “horses” and cr. torque 300 Nm. By paying 1.28 million rubles, you will receive a well-equipped car that consumes approximately 3.8 liters. diesel fuel (when driving in traffic jams - 4.4 liters, on a clean country highway - 3.5 liters).

Although the A-Class is the cheapest in this line of the famous German automaker, it costs a lot - from 1.5 million rubles. But this is a premium car, and also one of the top 10 most economical cars. On average, it consumes 3.8 liters per hundred kilometers. In urban conditions - 4.6 liters, in suburban conditions - 3.5. A 1.5-liter 107-horsepower engine of our own design allows us to achieve such indicators.

The model is well known to Russian car enthusiasts. Although it is designed on the basis of the no less popular Logan, formally it is a completely different car. By the way, in Europe it is still sold as Dacia. Sandero hatchback, equipped with a 1.5-liter power unit producing 220 Nm and 90 hp “on the mountain”. pp., spends about 3.9 liters of diesel fuel for every hundred kilometers. In the city, consumption is higher - 4.4 liters, on the highway - 3.7 liters. the most affordable of the top 10 - from 585 thousand rubles.

Another mega-popular “French”, one of the ten best-selling models in Russia over the past few years. It should not be surprising that the closest relative of the Sandero is equipped with the same 90-horsepower engine, and since the weight of the cars is approximately the same, the consumption is also the same - 3.9/4.4/3.7 liters. But the sedan costs a little more – from 605,000 rubles.

Yes, you were right – a crossover is also included in the ranking of the most economical cars in the world. Not Japanese or American, but a representative of the French automobile industry. The model is not new, produced since 2013, designed on the basis of the Clio and does not boast all-wheel drive. However, the Kaptur has off-road ground clearance, but the efficiency is surprisingly good, which is not typical for the SUV class. In mixed mode, the car consumes 3.9 liters of diesel fuel (highway - 3.6, city - 4.6 liters). And all thanks to the same 90-horsepower “one and a half”. You can buy a crossover for 940 thousand.

Doesn't it seem strange to you that French cars dominate the top 20? Fuel is probably very expensive in this country, so engineers have to focus on efficiency. One way or another, Peugeot’s flagship sedan turned out to be both environmentally friendly and not gluttonous, it needs an average of 3.0 liters per hundred kilometers (on the highway - 3.6 liters, on city streets - 4.5 liters). The modification with a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter unit costs a lot - from 1.43 million rubles, depending on the equipment.

Most BMW models are equipped with a decent range of engines. The second series is no exception, but what is surprising is that the 2-liter 150-horsepower engine is capable of consuming only the same notorious 3.9 liters! Isn't this a technical miracle? Consumption in the city is almost a liter more (4.8), but on the highway it is less, 3.6 liters.

The cost of a car, produced in sedan, coupe and convertible bodies, is from 1.5 million rubles (for that kind of money you can only buy a sedan).

The fact that this model is one of the most expensive in our review does not in any way detract from its other advantages - for example, the car is very richly equipped already in the basic configuration. So being on the list of the most economical diesel cars is absolutely justified - especially since the modification, equipped with a 1.5-liter 107-horsepower engine, spends only 3.9 liters of diesel fuel to travel one hundred kilometers. On the highway it’s even less – 3.5 liters, in city mode – 4.5 liters.

You can buy a Mercedes CLA for 1.65 million rubles.

The Spanish brand cannot be called particularly popular in Russia, but the mere mention of entry into the Volkswagen auto concern is worth a lot. In this case, Leon “borrowed” an economical 1.6-liter diesel power unit with a capacity of 115 hp from the parent company. s., which allowed, albeit in the second ten, to be present in our ranking. The car “eats” 4 liters of diesel fuel on average, 3.8 when driving on a highway and 4.6 when driving in city traffic jams. You can buy a “Spaniard” for 900 thousand rubles.

This is the only Italian model on the list of the most economical cars, as well as the only microvan. The letter L stands for extended body. The five-door is equipped with a 1.3-liter 85-horsepower engine with a very low appetite - 4.0 liters in mixed mode, 4.5 in city mode, and 3.7 in high-speed driving mode. The cost of just such a modification is 920,000 rubles.

The fourth generation of the C-Class is not in great demand in our country due to its high cost, but nevertheless it is not only an extremely reliable, but also a very economical car, produced in four body styles. A sedan with a 1.6-liter 116-horsepower engine consumes 4.0 liters of fuel (4.7/3.5 city/highway). The miracle of German technical thought costs 1.49 million rubles.

It’s hard to imagine any review without this “people’s” car. The “American” did not disappoint this time either - the range of engines includes a 1.5-liter 95-horsepower unit that consumes 4.1 liters of diesel fuel in mixed driving mode. In the city, appetites are higher - 4.8 liters, on the highway - 3.6 liters. For a sedan or hatchback (station wagons are not equipped with such an engine) you need to pay from 850,000.

The Czech car brand has long acquired a certain independence from the parent company, but the line of engines for most models is of German origin. Octavia in a sedan body with a powerful 143-horsepower engine has a surprisingly small appetite: it “eats” 4.1/5.0/3.6 liters of fuel in the mixed urban and extra-urban cycles, which allowed the Skoda Octavia to close the ranking of the most economical diesel engines cars. Such a car costs 1.24 million rubles, in a station wagon – 1.31 million.

TOP 20 most economical gasoline cars

The brand is Japanese, but this compact hatchback was designed for Europe - here it is the most popular body type. Cars are assembled in the Czech Republic. The second generation is not officially imported to Russia. A three-door modification with a liter 70-horsepower engine costs from 650,000 rubles. Gasoline consumption in this case will be 4.1 liters/100 km. in mixed driving mode (5.0 l. city, 3.8 l. highway).

A nimble and ultra-compact city car can accommodate only two people and only 190 liters of luggage. But it is very maneuverable and, of course, economical. Thanks to the 71-horsepower liter engine, the hatchback consumes an average of only 4.1 liters. fuel (outside the city - 3.7). The consumption of ForTwo, equipped with a 0.9-liter 90-horsepower turbocharged engine, is approximately the same. Deserved second place in the list of the most economical gasoline cars in terms of fuel consumption.

The baby costs from 780 thousand rubles.

Astra has already distinguished herself in the previous top 20, and she is not behind the curve in this one either. This time, the most economical modification was the one with a 1.0-liter engine producing 105 hp. With. and 170 Nm cr. moment. Gasoline consumption is 4.2 l/100 kilometers (5.1/3.7 city-highway, respectively). You can buy a “German” for 1.05 million rubles.

This subcompact hatchback, which replaced the 207 model, also comes with a liter 68-horsepower engine, which is quite enough for everyday tasks. At the same time, the car consumes 4.5 liters of gasoline (3.9 on the highway, 5.5 on city streets). Not a bad result at a cost of 590,000 rubles.

If among modifications with diesel engines Corsa was ahead of Astra, then in the gasoline rating the models swapped places. Nevertheless, the Opel Corsa, equipped with a liter power unit generating 90 horsepower, is confidently in the top 10 most economical cars in terms of fuel consumption. The gasoline version costs the same as the diesel version - 770,000 rubles, but consumes more fuel - 4.5 liters on average, 5.4 when driving in a jerky city rhythm and 4.0 liters on the highway.

In the model range of the Czech automaker, Rapid is the cheapest car. It was initially aimed at the budget segment, and even by Russian standards the sedan is quite affordable. For 610 thousand rubles you can become the owner of a basic version with a 1.2-liter 90-horsepower engine, whose appetites are limited to 4.6 liters of gasoline in mixed mode, 5.9 liters in the city and 3.9 on the highway.

This model is delivered to Russia in a hatchback body with several engines, including a 1.2-liter with 82 hp. With. is the most economical. It consumes an average of 4.7 liters of fuel. In city traffic, consumption is 5.7 liters, in high-speed mode - 4.1 liters/100 km. Interestingly, the Citroen C3 Aircross crossover is equipped with the same engines, but its consumption is much higher, which, in general, is not surprising.

The hatch costs 570 thousand in the minimum configuration.

This super-compact urban hatchback is designed on the basis of the Polo and has a wide range of engines, including those of German origin. Of the gasoline engines, the most economical power unit turned out to be a 1.2-liter 90-horsepower naturally aspirated engine, developing 160 Nm of torque. At a cost of 715 thousand rubles, the car will help you save a lot of money, because on average it consumes 4.7 liters of gasoline. We award Fabia 8th place in the ranking of the most fuel-efficient cars.

Where would we be without him? This model does not have enough stars from the sky, but it is always in sight. The range of Focus engines largely coincides with the Fiesta engine range, including the most economical 125-horsepower liter unit. Its consumption in mixed mode is 4.7 liters (city - 5.7 liters, highway - 4.1 liters). The Ford Fiesta with the same engine has slightly higher consumption due to the automatic transmission - the Focus is equipped only with a manual transmission. This pleasure will cost you 845 thousand.

The famous German concern offers domestic dealers an equally famous subcompact sedan with a 1.2-liter 90-horsepower engine, the appetite of which is 4.7 liters of fuel on average, 5.8 liters during city trips and 4.1 liters when driving on the highway. The car can be yours for 780,000 rubles.

The seventh generation of the famous model, which gave the world the collective name for an entire segment, also boasts good efficiency. This is a modification with a liter power unit and a seven-speed automatic transmission. This tandem provides a consumption of 4.7 l/100 km. in a mixed cycle, 5.6 l. in the city and 4.2 l. – on the highway. The initial configuration with such a motor/gearbox pair costs 980 thousand.

There is only one difference from the L modification - the car with an extended wheelbase is equipped with a diesel engine, while the regular Fiat 500 only has gasoline engines. Thanks to the 1.2-liter 69-horsepower naturally aspirated engine, the Italian is included in the list of the most economical cars in terms of fuel consumption (4.8/6.0/4.1 liters/100 km). In Russia, a car costs 740 thousand rubles.

Among avid motorists, this stylish car is called One or simply Hatch, which speaks of the people's love for the German model with British roots. The option with a 1.2-liter petrol engine producing 102 horsepower is the most economical. The car's consumption is 4.8 liters, the limit values are 5.9/4.2 liters/100 km. You can become the owner of a Mini Cooper with 940 thousand rubles in your pocket, but this will be the initial configuration.

In terms of compatibility, the Peugeot 301 is a twin to the Citroen C-Elysee in most respects. So a modification with a 1.2-liter 82-horsepower unit is present in both cars, and their consumption is the same - 4.9/6.0/4.3 liters/100 km. The Peugeot representative is higher on the list, since the C-Elysee is much more difficult to find in domestic car dealerships. The baby Peugeot costs 301,520,000 rubles - in our ranking of the most economical gasoline cars, this is the most budget option. Only its twin is cheaper.

Everything that was said above also applies to this model. The same 1.2-liter engine, exactly the same consumption figures - average 4.9 liters, city 6.0 liters, high-speed 4.3 liters/100 km. But the C-Elysee costs 12,000 rubles less.

We have already mentioned that the range of engines in the Fiesta is almost the same as in the Focus. But the option with a liter engine rarely comes to Russia, and the consumption of the sedan, which is very successful in Europe, is higher than that of its competitor - 4.9 liters on a combined cycle. In city mode, the car consumes 6.6 liters of gasoline, on the highway - 3.9. But Fiesta costs less – 810 thousand.

Since Sandero and Logan are single-platform cars, many of their technical characteristics are identical. In particular, the range of engines and gasoline consumption indicators. The only differences are in body type and cost. Thus, a Renault Sandero with a 0.9-liter 90-horsepower gasoline engine costs 565,000 rubles and consumes an average of about 5 liters of fuel (5.8 when driving around the city and 4.6 on the highway).

Logan with the same power unit demonstrates the same appetites: 5.0/5.8/4.6 liters/100 kilometers, but the sedan costs 20 thousand more – 585,000 rubles. The equipment of the cars is also similar; there are differences, but they are not significant. And in general, the Renault Logan is considered one of the most “empty” cars in the database.

The popular Korean with a 1.2-liter 84-horsepower gasoline engine consumes 5 liters of fuel in the combined cycle, 6.3 when driving on city roads and 4.2 liters on the highway. The sedan, aimed at the Old World market, costs from 630,000 rubles.

The third generation Yaris, equipped with a one and a half liter 111-horsepower engine, closes our rating of cars in terms of efficiency. Its performance is 5.0/6.3/4.2 liters/100 km. In Russia, this option is offered for 725 thousand rubles.

We are good at calculating how much we saved on buying a car, how much on service from a garage technician instead of a normal service station, and how much on cheap Chinese spare parts. But it’s not customary for us to calculate how much could be saved on fuel, and in general there is no such tradition of choosing a car based on its consumption. Of course, everyone knows that 3-liter BMWs from the 90s cannot be economical, but Belarusians are also in no hurry to switch to small cars with 0.9-1.2 liter engines. But this will save you a lot of money!

Let's count together. How many kilometers do you drive per year? In Europe, the normal average annual mileage is considered to be 30-35 thousand kilometers. Let’s say ours is less – 20-25 thousand, but for example we’ll take 20 thousand and an average consumption of, say, 8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Based on this, we find that we need 1600 liters of fuel per year, and if you drive the same 30 thousand kilometers, then all 2400. We multiply by the cost of 92nd gasoline - and we get 17,760,000 and 26,640,000 Belarusian rubles, respectively .

Now imagine that your car consumes not 8, but, say, 5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Under the same conditions, you spend much less during the year, because now you will need 1000 or 1500 liters for the above-mentioned runs - this is 11,100,000 and 16,650,000 Belarusian rubles.

But not everything is so simple: not every car with a small engine is really very economical; many small cars with a 1.2-1.4 liter engine can consume no less fuel than golf class sedans with a 1.6 or larger engine .

Therefore, we bring to your attention a review of cars that can consume no more than 5 liters of fuel.

The most famous economical car of the late 90s is considered to be the VW Lupo and its twin Seat Arosa. In the 3L modification, this three-door hatchback was equipped with a three-cylinder 1.2-liter turbodiesel, and to reduce weight it had aluminum body panels - hood, fenders, side doors, etc. Of course, for a small car such technologies were a little expensive, but in return VW enjoyed it for a very long time title for the manufacturer of an ultra-economical car - in highway mode, the 3L consumed only 2.7 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. And in the urban cycle, according to the manufacturer, this small car needed no more than 3.6 liters. Can you imagine how much the owner of such a Lupo or Arosa saves on fuel?

But there are practically none of these in the 3L version on our market, and all other Lupo and Arosa have higher consumption. Especially gasoline modifications. Only cars with a 1.4-liter turbodiesel, which consumes 3.5 liters in the extra-urban cycle and an average of 4.4 liters, can get closer to the record figures.

The same 1.4-liter turbodiesel can be found under the hood of another Volkswagen model – Polo. And here it also demonstrates miracles of efficiency - 3.9 liters in suburban mode. But in our market, Polo with a 1.9 liter diesel engine is more common, which was installed on almost all Volkswagen models, and this is also a very economical engine - on Polo, depending on the modification and power, it requires from 3.9 to 4 on the highway .1 liter. By the way, the most economical in highway mode will be the atmospheric SDI version. Petrol Polos cannot boast of such efficiency, even in the smallest versions.

By the way, did you notice that almost the entire review was taken up by small cars? But such cars are not suitable for everyone’s lifestyle: family, children, business - what if you need a larger car, but just as economical? This is Skoda Octavia. The roomy hatchback or station wagon was equipped with the same 1.9-liter diesel engine (or turbodiesel), which we have already talked about using the VW models as an example. And under the hood of the Octavia, this engine also demonstrates miracles of efficiency - on the highway it needs only 4 liters of diesel fuel. This applies to both generations of the model: despite the fact that the second generation Octavia, which appeared in 2004, has become larger and heavier, its 1.9-liter 105-horsepower turbodiesel consumes about the same amount on the highway - 4.1 liters.

The French one and a half liter turbodiesel developed by Renault is also distinguished by its excellent efficiency. Installed in 2001 under the hood of the second-generation Clio model, in the 65-horsepower version it consumed 3.7 liters on the highway, and in the turbocharged version even less - 3.6 liters per 100 kilometers. Subsequently, this engine was installed on almost all Renault cars, as well as some Nissan models and others.

Diesel, diesel... But what about gasoline engines? Are there really none of them that are so economical that they can easily fit into the same parameters as the diesel engines indicated in this review? Answer: no. More precisely, there wasn’t. Until the end of the 2000s, gasoline engines could not compete with diesel engines in efficiency, and only the advent of a new generation of engines made it possible to reduce consumption to less than 5 liters. Moreover, if some were able to achieve this only through the use of turbocharging, like Volkswagen with its TSI engines, then other manufacturers, like Toyota, were able to reduce consumption even without supercharging, and today the liter and 1.3-liter Toyota engines used on models iQ, Aygo, Yaris, fuel consumption in highway mode is from 4 liters and above. There are also hybrid cars, which, thanks to the help of an electric motor, can be very economical in the city, but we will talk about them in a separate review.

These days it is the main selection criterion for a potential buyer. Nobody wants to spend 1.2 million. rubles or more when buying a car, and ultimately get a not very big advantage in fuel economy compared to cheaper cars. When buying an economical car, the buyer wants to get significant savings on gasoline or diesel fuel, which over time will at least partially recoup the overpayment for an economical car.

We have compiled for you a rating consisting of 10 cars that are the most economical and at their cost make sense to buy, since by overpaying for the economy of the car over time, it is possible to recoup the money invested due to less spending at the gas station.

Despite the fact that in recent years there has been mainly the emergence of new modern technologies that are used in internal combustion engines, which has made it possible to significantly reduce average fuel consumption, there is not a single car in our selection with a conventional gasoline or diesel engine. All cars presented in the rating.

The reason is that technology does not yet allow modern traditional engines to compete in fuel consumption with cars running on hybrid power units.

Please note that our selection includes full-size cars. We deliberately do not include small cars with low fuel consumption in the rating, since such cars are small in capacity (usually two-door) and low-power, which are not in great demand throughout the world and are not very relevant in our country.

The cars presented in the TOP 10 are quite powerful, but nevertheless are economical in fuel consumption.

1) 2013 Lexus CT200h - 1.32-1.7 million rubles

Our list starts with the luxurious Lexus CT200h. This car is one of the few hybrid cars sold in Russia (there are many more cars with hybrid engines in the USA and Europe), prices for which start from 1,318,000 rubles. This small car in combined mode (simultaneous operation of a conventional engine and an electric one) consumes only 5.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

Such low fuel consumption is made possible thanks to the use of Toyota Hybrid Synergy technologies, which are used on many hybrid and all-electric Japanese cars.

The hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric powertrain. Total power is 134 hp. Weight - 1445-1485 kg. (The total curb weight of the vehicle is 1790 kg.)

The Lexus CT200h five-door hatchback is considered sportier and more enjoyable to drive than the Toyota Prius on which it is based.

2) 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid (Mondeo) - $27,995 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.30-1.65 million. rubles including customs duties and delivery from the USA.

Ford is spending a lot of effort on developing hybrid technology. Fusion model, which is better known in Russia as Ford Mondeo despite the fact that it is not officially represented in the Russian Federation, it occupies second place in our rating. Despite its low cost in the States, it is not possible to buy this car for little money in Russia. In order to purchase this car, you need to go to America to buy it or order a car through companies specializing in the resale of cars from the USA.

But the price of the car will increase due to customs duties and delivery to Russia. So the customs duty will be approximately 469 thousand. rubles

Despite the high price tag, the car and the difficulty of purchasing it in the Russian Federation, this car was included in our rating because of its efficiency. Fuel consumption in combined mode is only 5 liters per 100 km. The hybrid installation is a 2-liter gasoline engine combined with an electric 7.6 kW installation. Operation in combined mode produces 188 hp. power, thanks to the use of an electronic automatic continuously variable transmission ECVT.

Ford recognized the success of the project to equip the Ford Fusion Hybrid (Mondeo) with hybrid engines. Thanks to its success, the American company decided to use this hybrid system on Ford C-MAX vehicles.

3) 2013 Toyota Prius V - 1.25-1.59 million. rubles

Despite the fact that the Toyota Prius is a very popular hybrid car all over the world, in our country this car is not in very great demand due to its high cost compared to other countries. Not to mention the Prius V version. But we decided to include it in the rating, since without this car the selection of the most economical cars in the world would not be complete.

The direct competitor to the Prius is the Ford S-Max. The Prius 5 has larger dimensions than the regular Prius, which is specifically designed to accommodate more people and luggage (the trunk is a problem for all hybrid cars, as it is the only convenient place to install the battery that powers the electric motor).

Fuel consumption in combined mode is 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

Using Toyota's signature Synergy Drive hybrid technology, the car produces 134 hp, which is low for a car of its size. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds.

4) 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid - $26,935 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.18-1.53 million. rubles including customs duties and delivery from the USA.

More affordable, in contrast to the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid (Mondeo), is the 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid, which, unfortunately, is also not officially presented in the Russian Federation. Currently, hybrid technology from Toyota in the form of the Toyota Camry Hybrid is available to all those who cannot stand the style and design of the Toyota Prius.

Fuel consumption when the 2.5 liter gasoline engine and electric motor work together is 5.7 l/100 km. In addition to its body shape and style, the Camry differs from the Prius in its good power (200 hp), thanks to which this full-size mid-size sedan accelerates to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, which is not bad for a hybrid four-door car.

5) 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid - $25,995 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.18-1.51 million. rubles including customs duties and delivery from the USA or Europe.

The Ford C-Max is the ideal hybrid vehicle for those who like the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid USA (Mondeo) but need more space for passengers and luggage. This car, like most hybrid cars, is not officially sold in our country. So, fans of this brand will have to buy this car in the USA or in Europe, spending money on customs and delivery to Russia.

However, despite the difficulties of buying, the C-Max is cheaper than the hybrid Mondeo. Note that the C-Max and Ford Fusion share the same engine and transmission. These models also have the same fuel consumption, which is only 5L/100km, but the C-Max has larger body dimensions, which has an advantage over the Fusion Hybrid USA. Power 188 hp (with the joint operation of an electric engine and a 2-liter gasoline engine).

When testing the hybrid C-Max, it is worth noting that it is much more pleasant to drive than the Prius V.

6) 2014 VW Jetta Hybrid - $25,790 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.15-1.49 million. rubles including customs duties and delivery from the USA.

With a petrol 4-cylinder 1.4 liter turbo engine and an electric motor, the Volkswagen is much more powerful than the Prius. The power of the hybrid Jetta is 170 hp. The latest models of this hybrid car are equipped with DSG automatic transmissions with dual clutch.

With such power, the VW Jetta consumes only 5.23 liters per 100 kilometers, which is an excellent result considering the considerable power. The price at which it can be purchased in the North American continent is very attractive.

7) 2013 Honda Civic Hybrid - $25,150 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.14-1.47 million rubles including customs duties and delivery to Russia.

In Russia, used hybrid Honda Civic VII 2009-2010 are offered for sale at prices ranging from 450 thousand to 550 thousand. rubles (data from Auto.ru)

Unlike other hybrid cars presented in this rating of inexpensive and most economical cars, the Honda Civic is a hybrid that can only operate in a combined mode of operation of an electric motor and a gasoline engine. So, it won’t be possible to drive this car on electric power alone.

Despite this, the fuel consumption of the Honda Civic Hybrid is only 5.35 l/100 kilometers, which is not bad for a 1.5 liter engine paired with an electric power unit.

The only negative is that the power is not very high, amounting to only 93 hp. (for the Japanese market 91 hp). Given the low price and low fuel consumption, the premium for a hybrid car can be recouped in just a few years.

8)2013 Toyota Prius - $24,995 (US price)

In Russia the cost is 1.19-1.53 million. rubles The price of used cars is on average below 1 million. rub.

Toyota Prius, compared to approximately the same class of cars running on traditional engines, costs about the same, which is one of the most important factors in favor of buying this hybrid. Plus very low fuel consumption - 4.7 liters per 100 km. Although the regular Prius is smaller in size than the Prius V, it produces 134 hp. still not enough.

Just like the Prius 5, the standard Toyota Prius uses the same 1.8-liter gasoline engine, paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Despite the not very stylish design of the car and some shortcomings, the price and fuel consumption of the Toyota Prius are the main advantages for deciding whether to purchase a hybrid car.

Thanks to its efficiency and affordable price, the cost of purchasing a car will partially be recouped during operation by saving money on gasoline.

9) 2014 Toyota Prius C - $19,875 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.09-1.30 million. rubles including delivery from the USA and customs duties.

The new Toyota Prius C model is a whopping nearly $5,000 cheaper than the regular Prius model. The size of the new Toyota Prius C model is exactly two times smaller than the regular Prius model. This model is Toyota's first hybrid vehicle in the US, priced under $20,000. Despite its small size, it was not possible to reduce fuel consumption on this model.

The car consumes the same amount of fuel as a 2013 Toyota Prius (4.7 l/100 km). Also, you should not expect agility due to the weight of this car. The car is paired with an electric motor with a 1.5 liter low-power engine from Toyota Yaris (almost 100 hp).

But despite the boring technical indicators, the main thing about the car is its low price (in the USA), which is very attractive, which will naturally attract a large number of buyers.

10) 2013 Honda Insight Hybrid - $19,390 (US price)

Price in Russia: 1.00-1.25 million. rubles, taking into account delivery from the USA and customs duties to the Russian Federation.

This car completes our top ten most economical and inexpensive cars. It is the most affordable to purchase. Like all full-size cars in our rating, the 2013 Honda Insight is a hybrid. The hybrid installation consists of an electric power unit and a 1.3-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 98 hp.

Like the 2013 Honda Civic Hybrid, the Insight can't run on electric power alone, but it still gets good fuel economy at 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers. In terms of style, design and other parameters, the car is inferior to all the cars presented in the rating.

But it has no competitors in terms of price. Taking into account the specifics of our product, the low price allows you to quickly recoup the costs of purchasing this hybrid car, thanks to saving money at the gas station.

An average consumption of 6-7 liters per hundred is already a trend in recent years, and a good half of the latest models fit into this figure in their stated figures. A figure of 5 liters per 100 kilometers is already considered excellent, and not every second person can boast of this. However, our today's nominees went even further - the threshold for them was the number... 4!

Of course, ordinary gasoline cars reach this level only in exceptional cases, but in ours we cannot do without diesel or electric magic. Well, one more note: in this top we, naturally, are guided by the indicators declared by the manufacturer in the lists of technical characteristics, and they coincide with reality as often as the promises of politicians. But, as in the latter case, we can only grumble and hope for maximum honesty. So, let's go!

Volvo V40 Cross Country

Consumption per 100 km combined cycle: 4.1 l

We enter the distance - and here we are greeted by the first ultra-efficient car: the Volvo V40 Cross Country. Its petrol modifications are quite moderate in their appetites, but the diesel engine promises much more impressive savings. The 1.6-liter unit produces 120 hp. and 280 Nm, and in return requires 4.1 liters of diesel fuel per hundred kilometers in the combined cycle.

Yes, this is 100 milliliters more than our established threshold, but we decided to forgive the “Swede” such “liberties” due to the fact that its road version of the V40 in European specification and with a manual transmission boasts an indicator of 3.4 liters per 100 km in combined cycle and 3.2 on the highway. Well, for our particular nominee, a consumption of 4.1 liters per hundred with a tank volume of 62 liters promises a power reserve of 1,512 kilometers, which looks very tempting - albeit very optimistic.

Consumption per 100 km combined cycle: 4 l

And here are the first surprises - you wouldn’t expect to see a fairly large and dynamic Bavarian coupe on the list of the most economical ones. However, it does have a 420d version which means 2 liters of diesel under the bonnet, a decent 190bhp. and even more promising 400 Nm.

Such a car reaches the first hundred in 7.1 seconds, which in itself is far from a shocking figure. However, the beauty is that taking into account all of the above, the nominal consumption is 4 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle and 3.6 on the highway. And in the first case, a tank holding 57 liters means 1,425 kilometers traveled until the car stalls.

Citroen C4 Picasso

Our next Economist comes from France and boasts not only outstanding fuel efficiency, but also notable practicality due to its class and therefore size. Citroen C4 Picasso with a 1.6-liter BlueHDi diesel engine has 120 hp. and 300 Nm, while consuming 3.9 liters in the combined cycle and 3.7 on the highway.

Consumer characteristics of this minivan, and another good news is that its “enlarged” version with the Grand prefix also has seven seats and practically the same fuel consumption - 4 liters in the combined cycle and 3.7 in the suburban cycle. If these figures are considered achievable, then for a smaller minivan a 55-liter tank provides an autonomy of 1,410 kilometers, and for a larger one - 1,375.

Consumption per 100 km combined cycle: 3.9 l

By a not at all strange coincidence, the same engine as the superior Citroen is found in cars with the louder DS name. The DS4 hatchback, although it has a more luxurious interior, is technically based on the same indicators: 1.6 liters, 120 hp. and 300 Nm. Well, the consumption, accordingly, is almost the same: 3.9 liters in the combined cycle and 3.6 on the highway. The main difference against this background can be considered an increase of 5 liters to the volume of the fuel tank, which increases the potential autonomy to 1,538 kilometers in the combined cycle.

Consumption per 100 km combined cycle: 3.9 l

This “German” works according to the same scheme as the DS: the same engine as its brother, but less weight and dimensions in order to save another half a glass of diesel fuel. And it works: the two-liter BMW 120d hatchback has the same 190 hp. power and 400 Nm of thrust, the same as the 420d coupe, and “eats” 3.9 liters in the combined cycle and 3.5 on the highway. True, the tank here is smaller than that of the 420d - 52 liters, which after the simplest division operation gives a range of 1,333 kilometers. Which, in general, is also gorgeous.

By the way, the petrol version of the BMW 118i with three cylinders is also “not far behind” its diesel relative: the declared consumption in the extra-urban cycle is 4.2 liters per hundred. True, in the combined cycle it is already 4.8 liters - too much to be included in our rating, and the loss in “power” is noticeable: there is only 136 hp. and 220 Nm.

Consumption per 100 km combined cycle: 3 l

Well, we have reached the point of no return, where in order to achieve better numbers we will have to resort to the “white magic” of electricity. Well, speaking of hybrids, we immediately...

The new Japanese hatchback has increased both in size and in fuel efficiency.

has a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, which, operating on the Atkinson cycle, produces 99 horsepower, which is supplemented by another 72 “horses” from the electric motor. The torque of the gasoline unit is 142 Nm, and the electric one is 163 Nm. Well, the reason for which all this was started - the nominal consumption - also does not disappoint: the car should consume 3 liters in the combined cycle and 2.9 on a suburban highway. True, the tank here is noticeably smaller than that of the diesel cars presented above: 43 liters, which, however, still gives the number 1,433 as an indicator of the power reserve.

Mercedes-Benz C 350e

Consumption per 100 km in the combined cycle: 2.1-2.4 l

Judge for yourself: the gasoline engine here has a volume of “regular” 2 liters, and its power is 211 horsepower, to which the electric motor adds another 82. Torque – a confident 350 Nm. But a much cooler indicator is the fuel consumption we are interested in: according to Mercedes-Benz, it can reach up to 2.1 liters in the combined cycle. Why "before"? Because the manufacturer himself indicates a “floating” value: 2.4 – 2.1 l/100 km. Well, if we apply this figure to a tank holding 57 liters, then we get a simply monstrous power reserve - 2,714 kilometers! It’s a pity that we still don’t know how to navigate the universe in which automakers measure passport expenses...
