The headlight hydrocorrector is a device with which it is possible to really change the direction of the light flux. Thanks to this, you will not blind other drivers on the road if you are carrying some kind of heavy load. There is a headlight hydrocorrector on the VAZ-2114.

Generally speaking, the system itself is not particularly complicated here. It, in particular, consists of:

  • main and executive cylinders;
  • connecting pipelines;
  • liquid that does not freeze at low temperatures.

The principle of operation of the device is as follows. In order to correct the direction of the luminous flux, you need to change the position of the master cylinder rod. This is done using a handle located on the instrument panel. As a result, the pressure changes, due to which the liquid starts to move - it extends or, conversely, retracts the rod of the working cylinders. Further, the force is transferred to a lever, which is attached to the axle like a children's swing. As a result, the position of the headlamp reflector is changed by the linkage, and the luminous flux rises or falls.

It is not difficult to check the performance of the hydrocorrector. For example, in the dark, place the car in such a way that its headlights shine on the wall of a building. Then turn the handle of the hydrocorrector. If the device is working properly, then you will see how the luminous flux rises or falls. If no changes have occurred, then a breakdown has occurred.

As a rule, the headlight hydrocorrector is a non-separable design.

Accordingly, in the event of a breakdown, it cannot be repaired, and you will have to change it to a new one. Most often, problems occur with sudden changes in temperature - because of this, the sealing gums on the cylinders crack, allowing the liquid to come out.

However, sometimes such a problem may arise as the loss of contact between the working cylinder rod and the adjusting lever, through which the force is transmitted to the baffle element. In this case, there is no need to change the hydrocorrector. To fix the problem, you will need to hook the recess available on the working rod with the end of the adjusting lever. The troubleshooting procedure itself is very simple. Here you need to screw in the bolt all the way, with the help of which the position of the pivot point of the lever is adjusted. Next, we shift the reflector to the lowest position. After that, we combine the recess on the rod and the end of the lever. That's all - it remains only to return the adjusting bolt to its previous position.

Replacing the headlight hydrocorrector VAZ-2114 - sequence of actions

The above case is the only fault that can be rectified. In other cases, you will have to change the hydraulic corrector. There is nothing complicated here either. The first thing to do is to remove the faulty device. To do this, unscrew the screws with which the pipe clamps are attached to the brackets.

Next, remove the handle from the main cylinder, and also unscrew the nut that secures it to the dashboard. After that, we turn to the headlights. Here you need to disconnect the main cylinders and push them along with the pipes into the car interior. This should be done carefully so as not to damage the electrical wiring of your car. Half of the work has already been done, that is, the first stage of the work has been completed.

Now you should install a working device. There is nothing complicated here either. We take a new hydrocorrector and install it in place of the old one. All actions here are carried out in reverse order. It should also be noted that many owners of "fourteenth", faced with such a problem, make a certain improvement in the design.

In particular, instead of hydraulic, they install an electric headlight range control. The latter is more reliable and durable, but it also costs more. The most optimal option for the VAZ-2114 is an electric corrector of the Silich Zenit type. The thing is that it fits perfectly into its regular place. Accordingly, no problems and difficulties will arise here.
