Hello dear readers, in this article we will look at one of the most powerful tanks at level 7 - the German masterpiece of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, which was never put into service due to high cost, difficulties in conveyor production and due to a number of technical features , which were difficult to implement in a dynamically changing military situation. In any case, in the virtual world of World of Tanks, such things as technical problems with the transmission, the complex structure of the chassis, and the like are not as decisive as in the real world. Therefore, you and I have the opportunity to control this grandiose combat vehicle - just think of the 200 mm armor in the forehead and this is at the seventh level! If it weren’t for the nerf of the car a few patches ago, then it could easily be raised to a higher level, and it would feel confident there too. You won’t believe it, but when the tank first came out, even the E-100 couldn’t penetrate it head-on. Imagine the shock the owner of a top-end car had when he couldn’t break through something mysterious at level 7. In any case, these are the owners who requested a nerf to the tank from the developers, so we now have approximately 60% of the armor strength that the tank had at the time of its appearance in the game.

Historical reference

On May 26, 1941, Adolf Hitler ordered Dr. Porsche and the Henschel company to develop prototypes of a new heavy tank. Krupp was given the task of developing turrets for both the Porsche prototype and the Henschel prototype. Henschel used the previous VK3001(H) and VK3601(H) prototypes as the basis for its Tiger, while Porsche used the VK3001(P)-Leopard project. None of those prototypes made it into production, but their development provided valuable experience, and to speed up the creation of the new VK4501(P) prototype, components and chassis from Porsche's previous project, the VK3001(P), were taken and modified. The suspension consisted of six road wheels without the use of return support rollers. Tiger(P) was equipped with two Porsche Typ 101/1 air-cooled gasoline engines installed in the rear of the hull. Gasoline engines drove electric generators, which in turn powered two electric motors that rotated the drive wheels of the tracks. The engines turned out to be factory defective and were repaired, but remained unreliable. At the same time, the electrical system used a lot of copper, which was a strategic military material. The drive wheel was located at the rear, instead of the conventional front location. The electric transmission was taken virtually unchanged from the VK3001(P) prototype. The petrol-electric drive system had many problems (such as engine fires), and its heavy weight limited the Tiger(P's) off-road capability. On soft ground, the prototype often got stuck and skidded, and had to be pulled out using recovery vehicles.
On April 19, 1942, both prototypes (Porsche and Henschel) arrived at the railway station near Rastenburg and then set off under their own power for the city. It was only 11 km away, but both cars managed to break down several times during the march. At 11:00 on April 20, 1942, the prototypes were shown to Adolf Hitler (on his birthday), who at that time was in his Wolfschanse bunker (in East Prussia). Tests were scheduled for July, but preliminary tests have already shown that Tiger (P) is very far from ideal. But due to lack of time, even the modernization carried out did not help to completely get rid of the design flaws. Both VK4501(P) and VK4501(H) were armed with a powerful 88mm. the KwK 36 L/56 gun, developed on the basis of the Flak 36 L/56 anti-aircraft gun. Krupp originally developed the turret for the Porsche prototype, but it was later modified and used by Henschel for their VK4501(H). Tiger(P) had a turret mounted in the front position, which was inconvenient and dangerous when operating the tank in a confined space. In July 1942, both prototypes were intensively tested at the tank school in Berka (Germany). VK4501(P) did not pass the tests, while Henschel's VK4501(H) passed all tests with success. The main reason for the loss of the VK4501 Porsche was the overly complex drive and control system, which was prone to frequent breakdowns and required lengthy maintenance. The Tiger(P) was also longer than its competitor, making it less maneuverable. Porsche also proposed to arm the Tiger with the 150mm in the future. gun KwK L/37 or 100mm. L/70, but this was never implemented. In July 1942, the prototype VK4501(H)-Henschel was accepted and went into production. In July 1942, Nibelungenwerke produced only five copies of the Tiger(P), and in August of the same year its production ceased completely. But even after the production of the Tiger(P) tank ceased, assembly of the 90 previously ordered chassis of this vehicle continued. Their undoubted advantage was that the engines had an air cooling system, which means that the production of such chassis was easier. But newly discovered technical problems caused this production to stop as well. Five fully assembled Tiger(P)s were used for training purposes at the Dollersheim plant in Austria. From August to September 1943, three of them were converted into recovery vehicles, under the designation Bergepanzer Tiger(P).

The only one of the five Tiger(P) saw action as a command tank with the 653rd Schwere Heeres Panzerjager Abteilung and fought on the Eastern Front under the command of Hauptmann Grillenberg (#003) in mid to late 1944. On September 22, 1942, it was decided to use 90 ready-made chassis for the production of a heavy self-propelled gun - the Ferdinand/Elephant tank destroyer. Taking into account the experience of street fighting in Stalingrad, on November 22, 1942, Hitler allowed the production of one Rammtiger - a machine for clearing barricades and rubble. Porsche completed development of the vehicle on December 7, 1942, and on January 5, 1943, Adolf Hitler decided that the three completed VK4501(P) prototype chassis should be modified and converted into the Rammtiger/Raumpanzer Tiger(P). This lightly armed (MG34 machine gun) vehicle had a standard VK4501(P) hull with a highly inclined superstructure mounted on it with a “ploughshare” attached to the front. The inclined planes of the superstructure were made so that structural debris could freely fall off the vehicle. In May 1943, three superstructures were ready, and the vehicles were assembled by August of the same year, but they never took part in combat operations, probably remaining at the Nibelungenwerke plant until the end of the war. Another source claims that by the time the project was closed, only a scaled-down (1:10 or 1:15) model of such a vehicle had been manufactured, and the three chassis were used as previously planned.

General characteristics

Traditionally, we will begin the review with a step-by-step review of the characteristics of the main modules, and then we will touch upon issues of profitability and the use of special skills and modules.

Armor

Armor is the competitive advantage of this tank; at medium and long distances it is almost impossible to penetrate it for tanks of a lower or equal level, and even heavy tanks of the 8th level often experience problems. The frontal armor of the Tiger (P) is very strong, and as for the body, we can say that it is monolithic, since even when hit from a machine gun nest, the damage does not always pass through the viewing slot. In the strongest place we have 200 mm of armor - this is the front part of the hull, but the 120 mm turret has the ability to absorb some of the penetration hits, so the damage does not go through, even if there was formally a penetration. Therefore, tanks of level 7 and below try to aim at the commander’s turret to be sure – it is large and the damage goes there confidently. This means that you need to not stand still and maneuver at least a little when it comes to short-distance battles, which most often take place on city maps. The case has another feature - these are angular bevels on the case - formally they are designed to reduce the likelihood of penetration, but in fact they do not help us, rather the opposite. The thing is that experienced tankers always try to “diamond” in firefights - this way there is less risk of penetration and the accuracy of hits on us is lower, in addition, there is a chance that the chassis will absorb some of the damage. But it is precisely when positioned in a diamond shape that these small corners actually become small armor plates, which are located at a right angle to the enemy and therefore those who are more experienced hit there, because they know that the damage to these vulnerable points is no worse than to the commander’s tower.

The next weak point is the “instrument panel” or in other words a narrow strip of armor at a right angle where the viewing slots and machine gun point are located. This place is weak not only because of the presence of vulnerabilities, but also because it is located at a right angle - the chance of a rebound tends to zero, and the risk of penetration is increased due to the presence of vulnerabilities. There is only one good thing - even through the viewing slot the damage does not always pass through, sometimes the projectile gets stuck in the layers of armor and the driver gets off with only new underpants.

Figure 3. Towers for "Tiger (P)

The turret's armor has one peculiarity - the frontal part is actually covered by one large armor plate, on top of which there is a gun mantlet, flat and straight, the exact opposite of what we saw on Soviet or American tanks. This is where unexpected penetrations without damage come from, however, the modern realities of the widespread use of “gold” have noticeably reduced the role of armor in tank battles, sometimes bringing the situation to the point of absurdity - no matter how you stand up, no matter how you turn, you will still be penetrated. Pay attention to another feature of the tower - our visibility is only 370 meters, which seems like a lot, but attention needs to be paid to the development of visibility, either by installing modules or by training the relevant tankers in the required skills.

Figure 4. Tiger (P) penetration locations, part 1, view - oblique projection

The main thing to remember is that we have rather weak side and rear armor, not to say that it is completely weak, but it is far from equal to the armor of KV-type tanks, and therefore it is not worth turning the tank too much under a diamond attack - they will surely hit you in the side, even provided that with such a setup it will be very difficult for you to punch in the forehead. Therefore, try to maintain a rotation angle of no more than 20-30 degrees - this way the probability of penetration is the smallest. If you have had experience fighting on the Ferdinand tank destroyer, then the same thing is here - the same chassis and almost similar armor indicators, with the exception of the turret. The ideal option is to “tank” from behind cover - the sides are covered and you can position the hull at an angle to the enemy without the risk of getting a blank on the side.

Figure 5. Points of penetration of “Tiger (P), part 2, front and side-rear views

It is very difficult to penetrate the upper part of the armor plate, in this it is like the IS-2M like two peas in a pod; anyone who shoots there often wastes ammunition. With the lower armor plate, things are better, but with skillful “playing” with the hull and positioning it in a diamond shape, the situation becomes more complicated - this makes it much more difficult to penetrate the tank into the NBL. It’s better to shoot at the turret and expect that 2 out of 3 hits will hit with damage than 3 out of 4 hits without damage or not at all when shooting in the NBL when the tank is positioned in a “diamond”. If accuracy allows, then it is better to aim at the bevels in the front part of the body - it is difficult to hit, but the damage occurs with enviable consistency. The only problem is that the bevels are very small, although idiots who are too lazy to maneuver the body on the Tiger (P) are encountered quite often, so there are still chances.

There is no point in talking about the rear armor; it is quite weak on all tanks, except for the KV type tanks. Although we have balanced indicators of side and stern armor, nevertheless, it is necessary to take care of the stern, since there is an engine, and the front location of the turret makes you a “convenient” target for “pincers” (outflanking two enemy tanks) and even for a lone but a fast medium tank.

Weight and strength

The weight of the tank is 65.2 tons maximum and the strength in the top configuration is 1450 units. This is an average figure, at the same time, the large weight protects us from ramming, and the low inherent speed does not allow us to use this ram effectively enough. Therefore, there is no point in talking about upgrading skills and installing the appropriate modules for the ram, but what is worth taking from this kit is anti-fragmentation lining. The fact is that, despite the fairly strong armor, the tank suffers from artillery, however, everyone suffers from it. Actually, it’s no secret that the artillery in the game is of an edifying nature and is very far from reality. If self-propelled guns “roared” tanks so well on the battlefield, as happens in the game, then no one would have come up with tank destroyers, infantry anti-tank guns and assault anti-tank aircraft - it would be enough to bring self-propelled guns of the “Hummel” and “SU” type to the positions of the heels -8” and the outcome of the battle is predetermined. In the game we are dealing with mystically accurate and powerful artillery, that is, one that appeared only at the end of the 20th century, and not in all countries. In general, given the presence of “fantastic artillery” (there is no other way to describe what it does), put a liner on yourself so that it reduces the damage from land mines by as much as 15% (you feel the mockery). It protects health and tracks a little, and also helps to survive in close combat, when you need to clear a sector from enemy artillery, and also somewhat reassures ramming fans (“E-50s” are particularly fanatical, but in this case they will gain little, rather the opposite ).

Guns

The Tiger has plenty of guns, and unlike most stock tanks, it doesn’t suffer much. The fact is that we have a choice of a 105-mm howitzer for high-explosive fire and powerful cumulative fire, and we also have a magnificent 75-mm gun, which has one drawback - it does not have enough damage. We also have an 88-mm L/56 gun, which is worse than the top gun in terms of armor penetration, but with “gold” it allows you to feel quite comfortable (besides, it has a faster reload time). So you won’t have to suffer much in stock and pumping up the tank will be quite comfortable, moreover, when you are at the top of the table, 75-mm and 88-mm guns (not top-end ones) allow you to do much higher total damage per battle than with a top-end gun - rate of fire higher, and there is plenty of armor penetration for this type of battle.

Figure 6. Guns for "Tiger (P)"

7.5 cmKwK 42L/70– this gun is available to us almost immediately and, unlike many tanks that have to go through a painful period of leaving the stock state, thanks to this gun we can get away with everything. Judge for yourself - 150 mm penetration and this is from the start and with a good rate of fire and excellent accuracy. The only negative is only 135 units of damage, which makes the fight against very tenacious targets somewhat more difficult. For example, to take down such a “boar” as a “KV-5” you will need a lot of endurance, patience and nerves, and, moreover, you cannot do without gold, since even accurate hits on the “turret” with ordinary BBs do not lead to the desired result;

8.8 cmKwK 36L/56– this weapon is available immediately after the above. It has significantly higher damage - 220 units versus 135 units of a 75 mm gun, and also has a significantly lower rate of fire - 9.2 versus 13.3 r/m. Moreover, the penetration rate of the basic AP is 132 mm versus the 150 mm 7.5 cm gun, and the armor penetration rate of gold shells is also significantly lower - 171 mm versus 194 mm. In general, using this weapon is a controversial matter, since the armor penetration indicators are quite weak, and the rate of fire is lower than that of the weapon described above, and at the same time there is no way to “gold” normally penetrate heavy targets. Actually, the only advantages are quite good damage - 220 units and a moderate rate of fire (more than that of a top gun);

10.5 cmKwK 42L/28– 105-mm howitzer-type guns became popular after the introduction of the purchase of gold shells for silver. Thanks to this, you can use super-powerful cumulative shells that penetrate 150 mm of armor and inflict 350 points of damage. The weapon itself does not provide any special advantages, especially after the wild nerf to landmines. Land mines have become of little use; these HE shells can now only attack low-level targets, for which it is enough to use only low-level guns. The rate of fire and accuracy of the gun leave much to be desired, and the use of both conventional AP and standard HE shells is too ineffective. Only the use of cumulative weapons is effective, and although this strategy brings a lot of experience, it is very expensive in terms of game finances (now the situation has changed - the CS was nerfed by the breakdown by 1.5 times, so the question arose about the meaning of the presence of this weapon in the development branch, so how the combat effectiveness of the “high explosive” leaves much to be desired);

8.8 cmKwK 43L/71– a top weapon with excellent characteristics in terms of armor penetration, accuracy and damage. The only drawback of the gun is its relatively low rate of fire, plus this gun has 6 hundredths of a second faster aiming speed. The gun has amazingly high armor penetration with a basic AP shell - 203 mm, there is one "but" - gold shells penetrate 237 mm of armor on average and the difference here is insignificant (compared to a number of other guns). In any case, in most situations we can get by with just ordinary AP shells, and this allows us to save a lot of money with almost no loss in combat effectiveness. An aiming speed of 2.9 seconds implies the desirable installation of the “Reinforced Aiming Drives” module, since accuracy is our main competitive advantage, and due to the long aiming time, we will be no better than the Soviet ISs and KV-1S.

Always remember that you have an accuracy advantage over most tanks in the game in general, and even more so over the ones you face most often. In addition, we have an extremely high armor penetration rate with a conventional AP shell - 203 mm on average. This means that you must shoot from any distance, preferably from long distances - in long-range combat we have no equal. The high initial velocity of the projectile and accuracy mean that we will be able to hit enemy tanks even at long distances and even on the move and quite often. Any target that is highlighted to us at a distance of more than 400 meters is not difficult, since, unlike ISs and other tanks with inaccurate guns, hitting such a distant target is not an impossible task for us. At short distances, try to hit weak points - opponents almost always deal more damage at a time than we do, but they are not close to the level of ability to accurately hit weak points, simply because their weapons are much less accurate.

Always drive out from behind cover at low speed, in small jerks - this way you will be able to notice the enemy in time and if he is focused on you, then sharply back off. On the other hand, this way you can reduce the spread and quickly converge on the target after a short stop.

Speed and agility

This is one of the weakest points of this tank - it is really very slow and clumsy. Of course, this is not a “Maus” or “T95”, but still for a 7th level TT it is slow, most of all it is similar in these characteristics to the “KV-2” - it slowly picks up speed, turns slowly and loses a lot in speed at soft soils and going uphill.

All sorts of nimble CTs like to take advantage of this weakness and strive to get into your flank and rear. To be honest, it was much easier to get away from the “round dance” on a regular “Tiger”. It’s better not to go anywhere on this “boar” or forgive the platoon commanders to cover you. If "T71" managed to get closer to you, then consider that you have problems. So take care of the stern, gentlemen, with our dismal maneuverability it will be very difficult to catch a fast and maneuverable enemy light or medium tank that managed to drive into our flank. Again, on a classic “Tiger” it was not very difficult to break off the “all-around” in an equal duel with ST and even LT. It was enough to have an experienced crew (at least 100%), ventilation and straight hands; on a Porsche Tiger, even with all this, plus high-octane gasoline, you will have difficulties. By the way, the frontal location of the turret only aggravates the problem, allowing the enemy to feel almost impunity if he manages to drive into your stern. On a regular "Tiger" it was possible to turn the turret 45 degrees and then rotate the hull after the enemy and that's it - most tanks could not escape our fire, even such fast ones as the "M4A3E8". Actually, what do we want, because our chassis turning speed is only 22 degrees/sec.

Figure 7. Chassis of the Tiger Porsche (2 – stock, 1 – top)

At the same time, a regular “Tiger” has -24 degrees/sec, despite the fact that it itself is much faster and has excellent and very powerful engines. When I was driving a regular “Tiger” I wasn’t particularly afraid that I would be spun around and to be honest, few people succeeded, but now, on a “Tiger (P)” I try not to go too far forward if I’m not sure what I want will not enter the flank. On the other hand, you and I have the opportunity to “play” with frontal armor, which is 200 mm, although in the latest patches the strength of the turret was greatly reduced (the shadow one, of course, formally the numbers are the same), so you shouldn’t really count on the mask plus the original turret armor , for level 8 tanks this is no longer a problem at all. But the whole point is that the developers consider the Porsche Tiger to be a very, very strong tank (why are you scared?), and therefore they “really please” us with battles with tanks of the 8-9 and even 10 levels, and with an enviable frequency. Well, let’s say a big thank you to them and we’ll sadly trail behind the column, since it’s impossible to play it any other way, because for such battles, 200 mm armor is no longer an argument, and we clearly don’t have enough speed for a maneuverable battle. There is only one good thing here - the weapon is quite accurate and if you hit the weak points, you can more or less successfully survive in such battles.

At the top we have a 670-horsepower engine “2 Porsche Type 100/3”, with it we drive more quickly on soft soils, climb mountains faster and turn around, but still we are no match for the classic “Tiger”, which with top-end engines it becomes almost like a natural medium tank. It’s not surprising, firstly, the Maybach HL234 engine with a power of 870 hp, and secondly, the tank’s own weight is almost 59 tons, which is 1.5 tons less than that of Dr. Porsche’s brainchild, plus a more nimble chassis . Based on the sum of these factors, the key of which is the excellent Maybach engine, we are significantly inferior to the Tiger in terms of speed of maneuverability, despite the fact that in terms of nominal figures we surpass it. The maximum speed of a regular “cat” is 30 km/h, and that of a cat from Dr. Porsche is 35 km/h, and only in some of the top-end chassis the regular “Tiger” turns 2 degrees per second faster (22 vs. 24).

But there is no need to be discouraged, because we can counter this with powerful armor. Believe me, two “Tiger (P)” can tightly close the street, but a regular “Tiger” cannot, since it can easily be penetrated head-on by level 7 guns and is also well penetrated by level 6 guns and some level 5 models. So use speed (I mean linear speed, which Porsche has quite good) to quickly take key positions and if you are at the top, then you can kill a lot of people there, or completely disrupt the enemy’s attack. The main thing is to take care of the rear, the Germans burn well, and if they hit the engine from behind, they do very well, so don’t expose yourself.

Radio stations

What special things can be said about German radio stations? Nothing special, except that the magnificent “FuG12” model with a communication range of 710 meters becomes available to them quite early. This range is always enough, and for German TTs it is more than enough, since we don’t necessarily need to know what’s happening in the other corner of the map, since we won’t get there in time anyway. In general, go through “FuG7” faster, since 415 meters is still not enough, but 710 is already what we need, besides, we can later use this model on many German tanks.

Tactics and modules

I have already briefly described the tactics to you as I presented the material in the article. The tactics are simple - occupy key points and, depending on the situation, either hold the defense or carefully push through the flank. Don’t forget to “wiggle”, so the probability of penetration becomes much lower, even if you hit the tower. Please note that powerful tanks of level 8 will not think much and aim at your corners or NBL, they will simply hit a large and rather weak tower. Your task is not to expose it to a direct blow, that is, to wobble and “turn” it a little to the side so that the blow lands casually. Otherwise, everything is simple - powerful frontal armor and an excellent, accurate weapon will allow you to inflict enough damage to influence the outcome of the match, the main thing is not to rush - as soon as the enemy gets into your flank, all your advantages are neutralized.

In terms of modules, I would recommend optics, ventilation and wet ammunition rack. I’ll explain why - poor visibility is compensated by optics, low maneuverability is compensated by ventilation (plus bonuses to a number of indicators, including reloading and convergence), and the frequent flight of ammunition racks makes the choice of the “Wet Ammunition Rack” module more important than the “Rammer”, since there are unnecessary We can win back a couple of seconds with a powerful body, so we can live without a rammer. However, if you almost always ride with a platoon leader or always stay at the end of the column, and therefore the enemy has little chance of spinning you around, then you can install a rammer instead of ventilation. If you have an experienced commander and radio operator and both have learned the skills for review - “Radio Interception” and “Eagle Eye”, then instead of optics you can install “Reinforced aiming drives”, however, optics are still more effective. This will be especially noticeable when moving around open maps, and surprises in the form of PT right under your nose will not be uncommon for you. Sometimes it’s so annoying, you’re driving, they’re hitting you, and you don’t see anyone, that you begin to understand the real value of the Coated Optics module.

The flammability of the tank is average, in general, a fire extinguisher is usually enough for a battle, but if you want to safely drive with “accelerators” such as “High-octane gasoline,” then fill the tanks with carbon dioxide and go get your medals.

Keep distance!

This is my main advice to you - we, as “Super Pershing”, are almost invulnerable at long and medium distances if they shoot at our frontal armor, but as soon as we get closer, we immediately catch hits in the turret, lower armor plate and “corners”, especially accurate ones manage to even get into the gap between the turret and the hull. Distance is another matter - even clear hits into the tower often take place without damage, and thanks to an accurate weapon we can fray the nerves of even level 8 tanks. A simple example - at a long distance against the IS-3, we have approximately equal chances, even a little more, but as soon as the IS-3 gets closer, it can hit the turret almost without missing (even despite the inaccurate gun) and our advantage exactly leveled out. In other words, the closer the enemy is to you, the less chance you have, and the more chance he has, and vice versa. I have observed the following picture more than once - after a 3-minute firefight, the “IS-3” (or “IS-6” and the like) loses its nerve and goes for a closer approach, since at long and medium distances it could not cause any significant damage, but he could not shoot accurately at all. If you see such a situation, hit him with the tracks, because the further he is from you, the worse he is and the better it is for you, and may the force and Obi Wan Buratos be with you.

Profitability

Tanks at level 7 no longer generate income, however, with a premium account (PA) this is still possible. To do this, you need to stop using sub-caliber shells, that is, shells for gold, which are most often bought for silver and they cost a decent amount. Fortunately, our top weapon is good enough and we can do without “gold”. In addition, you must remember that you do not need to rush forward without the support of your team and try to hit the enemy from afar, since you have an accurate weapon and you can do this with confidence. It is enough to deal at least a thousand damage (about five penetrations) and you will already be in the black, even in a lost battle. Again, don’t rush, let the enemy break his spears on your powerful armor. Well, now let’s move directly to the numbers, I’ll immediately make a reservation - these are random solo battles and the “team dependence” here is high, so if you want uber-results, then form a cool platoon and go ahead, “kick randomly” (funny, but the balancer is in patch 0.8 .4. forms teams in such a way that you end up with the same enemy teams with a bunch of platoons).

Figure 10. “Tiger (P)” profitability table

So, 170 thousand without PA and 250 thousand with PA, 85 thousand were spent on repairs, 27 thousand on equipment, and 33 thousand on ammunition. Now let’s calculate the exact numbers for net profit for two types of accounts – premium and regular:

O) 170964 – (85270+27000+33266) = 25428;

P) 256446 – (85270+27000+33266) = 110910

The difference is 4 times in net profit, the conclusions are obvious. However, even without PA, the tank is profitable, and if you are careful and do not use gold shells, the income will be even greater. In any case, the tank will not put you in the red, even if you do not use a premium account.

In terms of experience, everything is very clear - about six hundred units on average per battle without PA and almost a thousand experience per battle with a premium account.

Conclusion

A powerful tank with strong frontal armor, an accurate and powerful gun and mediocre maneuverability, with weak and almost vertical sides. This is how “Tiger (P)” can be briefly described. The tank is suitable for lovers of defensive tactics, it is almost ideal for this, it would have the same sides as the IS-6 and it would not be worth the price. This tank can be used to "tank" with frontal armor and skillfully hit the enemy's weak points - the weapon is accurate, powerful and practically does not require gold shells. The tank is somewhat dependent on the team, as it is quite slow, and the weak side armor does not allow it to maintain all-round fire, as tanks like the KV-4 can do, but with the right choice of tactics, it can fray the nerves of tanks of a higher level, the main thing is keep your distance and beware of artillery.

As confirmation of my words that “Tiger (P)” is excellent in defense and deterring enemy forces, I recommend that you watch the following video:

In this battle, playing only on defense, we managed to collect almost two thousand experience and, with small forces, stop the advance of superior enemy forces.

Tiger Porsche(Tiger (P)) was in reality a projected alternative to Henschel's Tiger. Eventually, it was the latter that was adopted and massively participated in real battles. But the Porsche Tiger remained at the project stage. But in the game, the developers corrected this drawback, so everyone can upgrade this heavy German tank to level seven and participate in virtual battles with it.

Overall, the Porsche Tiger is balanced machine, so it is unlikely to undergo major balance edits. Serious advantages in the form of an accurate penetrating gun and strong armor are balanced by no less serious disadvantages in the form of the location of the transmission at the front and poor dynamics, due to which this tank is a desirable target for artillery. But first things first.

Let's start with the positives, of which Tiger Porsche still has more. Firstly, this is a top weapon KwK 43 L/71 88 mm caliber, which with a conventional projectile penetrates 203 mm and sub-caliber - 237 mm. Average damage is 240 units at rate of fire 6.98 rounds in a minute. Eventually, damage per minute is 1675 units. Good accuracy (0.34) is balanced by long convergence (2.9).

The damage per minute can hardly be called good; it is frankly low. For example, for the Soviet IP it is about 1900 units. But excellent accuracy and penetration allows the Porsche Tiger to hit targets at any distance, which the same IS is no longer capable of. The only thing that spoils the impression is the convergence of 2.9 seconds; during firefights at medium distance, when you are spotted and need to shoot as quickly as possible, this can be a serious problem. But at the end of the day, great penetration and accuracy have to be balanced by something.

Secondly, the armor leaves a pleasant impression: in the forehead of the hull there are several plates 200 mm thick. The stated front armor of the turret is noticeably thinner: only 100 mm, but this is compensated for by the robust gun mantlet. The armor of the sides and stern (the same applies to the turret) is 80 mm. But the problem is that the Porsche Tiger has several large vulnerable areas in the frontal projection: the lower frontal part (80 mm), small beveled plates on the sides of the bar above the upper frontal part (only 60 mm) and large observation devices (there is no armor there) in general, absolutely everyone makes their way). And the gun mantlet has differentiated armor, so its penetration is not that uncommon.
An experienced enemy in close combat will easily penetrate you, even if you hide the lower frontal part in the “headlights”, that is, those same beveled plates. In the clinch, the Porsche Tiger easily penetrates surveillance devices. But, firstly, the percentage of experienced players in random battles is, to put it mildly, low. Secondly, at medium and long distances, getting into vulnerable zones will be a pure accident. Like many well-armored tanks, the Porsche Tiger can effectively play "from armor" at medium and long range.

Third, review top tower is 380 meters, when enlarged with the help of coated optics, it is already 418 meters. On open maps this is a significant advantage. Add here an accurate penetrating weapon. Fourthly, this is a safety margin of 1450 units, which is only 50 units less than the maximum for this level.

Main disadvantage The Porsche Tiger has poor mobility. The stated maximum speed of 35 km/h can only be achieved from a hill, since the specific power is just under 11 hp. per ton. The turning speed of the chassis is 22 degrees per second, while the maneuverability is so low that on soft soils the speed drops to almost 10 km/h. Even the turret turns slowly (23 degrees per second), so if you get hit with a track, spinning the Porsche Tiger won't be a problem.

Another disadvantage is the front transmission. What can I say, the Porsche Tiger is a German tank, so it often burns when it hits the lower frontal part. The ammunition rack, which is located in the front part of the hull, as well as in the turret, is also often criticized. It is highly not recommended to expose the sides to shots, but this can be difficult to do: although the Porsche Tiger is not very wide, it is very long, and it is easy to hit it even from long distances.

Another drawback is the mediocre elevation angles: the gun rises by 17 degrees and drops only by 6. On hilly terrain this can be a serious problem. Where American tanks can only show the strong forehead of the turret for a shot, you will have to move out with your whole body and expose, for example, the vulnerable lower part.

So, we have looked at the main characteristics, now let’s move on to tactics. In general, the Porsche Tiger is of course more suitable for medium and especially long-range shootouts, in which you can realize the advantage in accuracy and visibility. But this does not mean that this German tank is completely defenseless in close combat. Of course, he has a large number of vulnerable zones in his forehead, but there is no need to let the enemy target them: do not stand still and constantly wiggle your body a little from side to side.

Heavy Soviet tanks, of course, will have an advantage in close combat due to their high one-time damage, but their accuracy often does not allow them to target weak spots. Even with full convergence, they can miss. When meeting tanks at a higher level, do not forget to position the tank in a diamond shape: the thickness of the frontal armor sheets is 200 mm, but they are located without any slope, so most opponents at a higher level will have no problem piercing you straight in the forehead.

In general, if possible, you need to force firefights on the enemy at long distances and play from cover. Don't forget that Tiger Porsche has low mobility, so both artillery and tank destroyers often fire at it. But if you are at the top of the list (that is, you are in a battle of mostly levels five and six), then you shouldn’t sit back. Play from armor and a large margin of safety, push the direction and cover less armored allies.

Equipment selection There is no big problem: rammer, drives and optics. The latter can be replaced with improved ventilation, but a significant increase in visibility is still preferable to a small increase in all the characteristics of the tank. There is no point in installing a stereo tube: the Porsche Tiger is a heavy tank, so you will rarely have to stand motionless behind the bushes.

Skill Selection and skills are also standard: repair and the commander’s sixth sense are of paramount importance. Then you can take the combat brotherhood or individual perks. For example, a loader has a good skill in non-contact ammunition storage, and a driver has a good skill in cleanliness and order. The radio operator should take a radio intercept to increase the already rather large overview.

You should not replace the fire extinguisher in your standard equipment with chocolate. As we said above, according to German tradition, the transmission is located in the front, so fires when the lower frontal part breaks through are not uncommon. Of course, the skill of cleanliness and order reduces the likelihood of fires, but not much.

As a conclusion, it is worth noting that the Porsche Tiger is a classic German car, focused primarily on long-range combat. What distinguishes it from many cars of this nation is its good forehead armor, which is a significant advantage.

Good day and welcome to the site! Friends, now we will talk about real German quality, which is seriously tested in our game. We will talk about a German heavy tank of the seventh level and this Tiger (P) guide.

This vehicle is pumped along a branch that ends with the legendary, super-heavy German Maus tank, and therefore, Tiger (P) performance characteristics should also be famous for their armor. This statement is partly true, but is it really so serious?

TTX Tiger (P)

To begin with, everyone who decided to roll out this heavy weapon into battle should know that on our side there is an increased margin of safety characteristic of German technology and, importantly, a good basic visibility of 380 meters.

If we consider Tiger (P) characteristics armor, according to the plan, we should really have a strong tank in our hands, and it really is much stronger than an ordinary tiger. However, everything is relative and the declared 210 mm thickness of the armor plates is only in two planes, marked in red. If we tighten the hull, we can really confidently hold off our classmates, but many tanks of the eighth level, and even more so of the nine, penetrate us quite easily. Moreover, the cheeks Tiger (P) World of Tanks, marked in orange, are generally only 80 mm thick and stick out very strongly.

If we talk about the security of the tower, there is again some confusion. The gun mantlet is a solid screen, but it is also quite often sewn, and sometimes even by machines of a lower level. But the biggest problem of the tower is deservedly considered to be the huge commander’s cupola. In other words, heavy tank Tiger (P) it seems to have armor in its forehead, but it seems not.

There is also something to be said about lateral projection. Our sides are 80 millimeters thick, which allows this vehicle to confidently tank when the hull is positioned in a diamond shape. But be careful, if you tighten it too much, the reduction will go down, and there is a vulnerable ammunition rack in the left front part of the hull.

It is also worth noting that Tiger (P) tank big, tall and long, hiding such a barn can sometimes be very difficult, and artillery likes to target us.

The mobility of our cord receives special attention. It would be wrong to call it super-slow, however, its top speed is mediocre, due to its heavy weight, the dynamics sags greatly, and its maneuverability is Tiger (P) WoT weak, so let’s remember about the art again.

gun

Well, if the car is not very good in terms of general characteristics, most likely it will have a decent gun. This is partly true; German weapons are always famous for their accuracy and more.

Tiger (P) gun Compared to the trunks of its classmates, it does not stand out as a large alpha strike, but our rate of fire is normal, so the reward is approximately 2000 units of damage per minute without a rammer and perks.

Our gun really stands out for its penetration parameters, in fact, heavy tank Tiger (P) World of Tanks can fight with dignity even against nines, without using gold. But if you want more comfort, it is better to carry 10-20 sub-calibers with you.

Among the parameters of shooting comfort, I would especially like to note the pleasant dispersion and excellent final accuracy. It just comes down to Tiger (P) WoT not as fast as we would like, and the gun bends down only 6 degrees, which is also not the ultimate dream.

Advantages and disadvantages

In order for you to play with a tank more confidently, you know what qualities you can count on, and what aspects it is better not to show to the enemy, you need to highlight the main advantages and disadvantages Tiger (P) WoT, which is what we will do now.
Pros:
Large margin of safety;
Good frontal armor in combat is at the top of the list;
Not a bad review;
High accuracy of the gun;
Not bad damage per minute;
Excellent penetration parameters.
Minuses:
Barn dimensions;
Armor is weak when fighting at the bottom of the list;
Poor mobility;
Little Alphastrike;
Mediocre comfortable UVN.

Equipment for Tiger (P)

Of course, it is very important to equip your combat vehicle with additional modules before going into battle; in a sense, this can even affect the outcome of the battle. Thus, on heavy tank Tiger (P) It is better to install the following equipment:
1. – will make us an even more formidable enemy, because thanks to this module the rate of fire and DPM will increase quite well.
2. – as mentioned earlier, this tank does not have the best aiming speed; by improving it, you will be able to deal damage more effectively.
3. – we already have a good overview, and by making it even better, we will gain an advantage over our classmates and will be able to keep up with higher-level technology.

As often happens, there is a good alternative to the third point -. Yes, we will lose vision range, but we will gain even more firepower, which also makes sense.

Crew training

The correct choice of skills for tankers sitting inside the vehicle is an even more important and responsible point. For Tiger (P) perks it is worth choosing in such a way as to increase the survivability of our tank, after all, it is heavy, to increase its general parameters, and it would also not be superfluous to make the weapon even more comfortable:
Commander - , , , .
Gunner – , , , .
Driver mechanic - , , , .
Radio operator - , , , .
Loader – , , , .

Equipment for Tiger (P)

Of course, it’s also impossible to go into battle without consumables, especially considering the fact that we have a heavy tank in our hands, designed to hold back the enemy’s onslaught, so at a minimum, we definitely need to buy one. But even more confidence, and, if necessary, reliability, can only be obtained if you carry Tiger (P) equipment from , , . By the way, the latter can be replaced with , it won’t be any worse.

Tactics for playing Tiger (P)

Considering everything said above, the strengths and weaknesses of our German, the style of playing him is fundamentally different depending on what kind of battle we find ourselves in.

When it comes to the fight at the top of the list, on Tiger (P) tactics Combat is all about dominance. We, as befits a heavy tank, can safely crawl to the front line and hold back the enemy with our armor, making sure to turn the hull, dance and go into cover while reloading.

If we talk about the battle at the bottom of the list, German heavy tank Tiger (P) WoT becomes much less formidable. Here a lot of people will easily penetrate us and for this reason it is better to stay behind the backs of stronger allies, playing the role of support.

You can fight no less effectively at long distances, the gun has Tiger (P) World of Tanks Accurate, thanks to good penetration, it is capable of defeating the enemy if you target vulnerable points or infect gold.

But in any case, you should always monitor the situation around you. You cannot engage in battle with superior enemy forces in a position that is unfavorable for you; the enemies can simply spin you around. Remember also that Tiger (P) tank has poor mobility, so you need to choose the direction carefully, but you should especially be afraid of artillery.

Hello, tankers!

At the moment, there are seven nations and just under five hundred armored vehicles, each of which is unique in its own way. Some nations and tanks were added quite recently, while others have existed since the very start of the game. One of the very first was the branch of the legendary and indestructible “Mouse”, on the seventh level of which there is a very interesting tank Tiger (P), and today we will talk about it.

Historical reference

Two competing design bureaus, Porsche and Henschel, were simultaneously developing a version of a heavy tank. In the winter of 1942, production of prototypes began, called VK 4501 (P) (Porsche) and VK 4501 (H) (Henschel). Prototypes were demonstrated to Hitler on April 20, 1942 (on the Fuhrer’s birthday), and special demonstration firing was carried out. Both samples showed excellent results, and no decision was made to select a sample for mass production. Hitler insisted on parallel production of both types, the military leadership was inclined to Henschel's car, while the Fuhrer was closer to the Porsche version.

Tests continued in April - June, and in parallel, the Nibelungenwerke company began assembling the first production Porsche Tigers. But the plans collapsed on June 23, 1942, since at a meeting with Hitler it was decided to have only one type of heavy tank in mass production, which was the Henschel vehicle. The reason for this is considered to be problems with the electromechanical transmission of the Porsche tank, which requires a large amount of scarce copper, as well as the tank’s small power reserve and the need to launch mass production of engines for it. The conflict between Ferdinand Porsche, who lost the patronage of Reich Minister Fritz Todt, and the German Armament Administration also played a certain role. As a result, only 10 vehicles were built, of which only one was experimental. However, later on the basis of the tank PzKpfw VI "Tiger" (P) A heavy self-propelled artillery unit (SPG) was created, 90 units in total. At that time, it was the most powerful self-propelled gun in the world and the first combat vehicle whose armor thickness reached 200 mm.

Analysis of tank performance characteristics

A detailed overview of the performance characteristics is given below, but here we’ll talk about the main and most important characteristics.

Armor protection. As planned, you should have a strong and impenetrable tank in your hands, which is much stronger than an ordinary tiger. However, everything is relative, and it is stronger than the first “Tiger”, but the declared thickness of the armor plates here is only in two planes (straight and inclined VLD sheet). The trusted hull confidently copes with the shells of its classmates, but tanks of the eighth level, and even more so of the ninth, penetrate us quite easily. In addition, the “cheeks” of the tower are Tiger (P) Not only are they only 80 mm thick, but they are also located at an angle, which also makes it difficult to “tank” with a diamond, since aiming them won’t be difficult. Reserving the tower is also a controversial issue. The gun mantlet is a solid screen, but it is often penetrated, sometimes even by vehicles of a lower level. But this is not the most important thing, because the main problem of the tower is rightly considered to be the huge commander’s cupola. In other words, a heavy tank Tiger (P)- a strange object, it seems to have armor in its forehead, but it seems not.

Firepower. The tank is equipped with a very comfortable 8.8 cm Kw.K gun. 43 L/71, which has excellent penetration, good one-time damage of 240 units and characteristic German accuracy.

Basic AP shells provide a penetration of 203 mm, which, as already mentioned, is an excellent indicator, meaning that you can often save on premium ammunition even against vehicles of a higher level. For especially strong eights and nines, which, alas, we also end up with, “gold” BP shells with a penetration of 237 mm are needed, which is also quite good. The last type of ammunition is land mines with a penetration of 44 mm and an alpha of 295 units.

The accuracy of the gun is 0.33 m per 100 m - a good indicator for a heavy weapon; the aiming time in stock is quite long: 2.7 s. The minimum aiming time with equipment, upgraded crew and consumables is 2.32 s. In stock condition, the gun is loaded in 8.22 s, with “full stuffing” in just 6.8 s.

The declination angles are mediocre: -6° down and 17° up, which will not allow easy shooting on hilly terrain.

Dynamics. It's all pretty sad here. With a weight of 62 tons, the 2x Porsche Typ 100/3 engine with 670 hp provides a specific power of 10.8 hp/t and acceleration of up to 35 km/h forward, as well as up to 12 km/h rear progress, which is quite mediocre. In addition, even in place the tank rotates sluggishly - 22.95°/s.

Detection. The basic visibility of 380 m is a good indicator at level VII, moreover, it can be easily improved with equipment and pumping up the crew to 439 m with “full stuffing”.

The camouflage is typical for Tier VII tanks, the tank is large and long, so it won’t be difficult to expose us, but otherwise this is still a tank, which tanks head-on and will always be “exposed.”

Leveling up. Tiger (P) examined after VK30.01(P) for 45,100 experience units. First of all, you should open the chassis to install heavier modules, then the gun and turret. The engine, which will improve the situation with the dynamics, as well as the radio, will be studied on other, including previous, tanks of the nation.

Selecting equipment, consumables and crew perks

Upgrading the crew. This perk setup will improve all the strengths of the car:

  • Commander:“Light Bulb”, “Brotherhood”, “Repair”, “Eagle Eye”
  • Gunner:“Repair”, “Brotherhood”, “Smooth turn of the tower”, “Sniper”
  • Mechanical drive:“Repair”, “Combat Brotherhood”, “Smooth Move”, “King of the Off-Road”
  • Radio operator:“Repair”, “Combat Brotherhood”, “Radio Interception”, “Inventor”
  • Charging:“Repair”, “Brotherhood”, “Non-contact ammo rack”, “Desperado”

Selection of equipment. I recommend the following set of equipment for this tank: “aiming drives” to improve aiming time, “ventilation” to increase the general parameters of the crew and a “rammer” to increase the rate of fire. This kit will enhance the advantages of the tank and increase the comfort of the game.

Choice of shells. The ammunition load of our tank holds 68 shells, I can say with confidence that this is enough for almost any battle, even at the bottom of the list. Each of you will decide on your own what ratio to arrange the ammunition in, I can only recommend the following set of shells:

Shell setup for playing in random (BB/BP/OF):

  • "Heavy tank at the top" - 50/15/3
  • "Heavy tank at the bottom of the list" - 40/25/3

Selection of equipment. The set of equipment is typical for any tank - repair kit, first aid kit And fire extinguisher.

Based on the above characteristics, as well as taking into account the strengths and weaknesses of our German, the style of play on it is radically different depending on what kind of battle we find ourselves in. The first, and most successful for you, scenario is “top”. When it comes to fighting at the top of the list, fighting tactics boil down to the well-known expression: dominate, dominate and humiliate. As befits a heavy tank, we can safely crawl into the thick of battle and, holding back the enemy with our armor, distribute shells to everyone who wants them, making sure to turn the hull and go into cover while reloading. The armor will forgive some mistakes, and you will be able to break through the red hordes advancing on you almost by “shooting at the silhouette.”

But if we get the second option, and we find ourselves at the “bottom” of the list, then our heavy German friend immediately turns from a terrible destruction machine into a much less formidable, modest support tank. Here we will be easily penetrated by many, very many, almost everyone, even a high-level LT harmlessly inspecting the surroundings, and for this reason it is better to stay behind stronger comrades who always come to the rescue and kindly take all the damage into themselves, playing the role of support and giving out damage after discharging the enemy. Here you shouldn’t boast about 200 mm of frontal armor and certainly don’t crawl with all available speed into the first rows of the attack, unless of course you want to quickly change tanks or go eat.

By the way, at long distances, the battle can be conducted no less effectively; the Tiger’s gun, like any German, is accurate and allows you to target the enemy’s vulnerable points. And thanks to good penetration, the crew of almost any enemy tank will appreciate the power of your ammunition, both armor-piercing and sub-caliber. Everything here is extremely simple, we find a bush that you really like, preferably a larger one, we make ourselves comfortable, and voila, you are a tank destroyer, big, scary and clumsy, but still.

But in any case, you should always monitor the situation around you and remain vigilant. Engaging in battle with enemy forces that are superior to you in the absence of an advantageous position is prohibited, because our tank, as we remember, is clumsy, large and slow. You can’t fight off the annoying LT - it’ll simply spin around, or go into desperate flight - there’s no speed or dynamics. Based on this, it should be understood that the choice of direction must be made carefully; a maneuver to change the flank will often be impossible.

Advantages:

  • accurate and fast-firing top gun;
  • good review;
  • large margin of safety;
  • decent armor penetration;

Flaws:

  • poor driving performance;
  • low turret rotation speed;
  • angular shape of the tank (less likely to ricochet);
  • low one-time damage of the top gun compared to other nations;

As a result we have the following: Tiger (P) a machine worthy of its development branch, perfectly demonstrating its gameplay features, and little by little introducing the essence of armor into the gameplay. The tank is quite interesting, versatile, and very dependent on the level of battle, but, like most vehicles of its level, it is passable. It won’t cause you much trouble, and won’t make you regret choosing this particular branch of research; besides, it can be easily handled by both a beginner and, even more so, an experienced player. The main thing is to approach the choice of positions wisely, evaluate your abilities, and not forget about the advantages and disadvantages of the machine.

Good luck on the battlefields!

Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger P", "Porsche Type 101", "Tiger Porsche"- German heavy tank from the Second World War, the prototype of which was the VK4501 (P) tank of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche.

One of the items on the agenda was the report of the head of the armament department on the progress of design work on the VK4501 (P) and VK3601 (H) tanks, models of which were presented here for display. It follows from this that the tanks were already at the development stage at the time of the meeting.

One way or another, a promising vehicle for its time under the designation VK4501 (P) did not go into production; only five vehicles were manufactured, but 90 chassis for the Tiger (P) tanks were ordered even before the official comparative tests of the prototypes, which, in in turn, does not exclude the version that F. Porsche was confident in the victory of his brainchild and prepared in advance for its serial production. Subsequently, all chassis were used for the production of self-propelled guns.

Characteristics

The chassis of the vehicle consisted of six double rollers on board, arranged in pairs on three bogies, with rubber inside the wheel, which greatly contributed to the greater wear resistance of the rubber band. Subsequently, rollers with similar tires began to be used on Tigers and Panthers. The torsion bars were located in the trolley, and not inside the hull like the vast majority of tanks of that time. The drive wheel was located at the rear, as opposed to the traditional front wheel of German tanks, which made the tank more squat.

The tank was equipped with two V10 air-cooled engines, which powered two generators, which, in turn, powered two traction electric motors that drove the drive wheels.

Combat use

Due to the fact that the tanks used air-cooled engines, it was decided to use them in the African theater of operations. However, due to the unsatisfactory maneuverability of the tank, this idea was abandoned, after which all five built vehicles were transferred to the plant in Döllersheim (German). Döllersheim) for training .

To date, only one Porsche Tiger is known for certain, which took part in battles on the Eastern Front in 1944, in the Galicia region, where it arrived at the location of the 653rd heavy tank destroyer battalion as a command tank with tail number “003” .

Self-propelled gun "Ferdinand"

On the existing chassis of the PzKpfw VI "Tiger" (P) tank, a heavy self-propelled artillery mount (SPG) of the tank destroyer class was created, 90 units in total. At that time, it was the most powerful self-propelled gun in the world and the first combat vehicle whose armor thickness reached 200 mm.

BREM "Tiger" from Porsche

In September 1943, three Porsche Tigers were converted into an armored recovery vehicle (ARV) at the Nibelungenwerke plant. Nothing is known about the participation of these vehicles in combat operations. Apparently, all three copies never left the factory.

In popular culture and souvenir industry

  • PzKpfw VI Tiger P is presented in the MMO game World of Tanks, at level 7 of the German heavy tank branch, along with the Henschel tank.
