Part two.

Complete set.

The same 100 series body can hide three different vehicles. Simple and utilitarian pavement Land Cruiser 105. The 105 series were produced as well as the 100 series until the end of 2007. The main difference from the 100 was that the 105 series had a split front bridge. In fact, the entire structure and units were carried over from the 80th series, and these are axles, engine and frame. The rear doors were mostly hinged; folding doors were less common. The 100 series was considered a step above 105 in terms of equipment, and therefore it was considered the more luxurious version. The top-end configuration included leather upholstery, wood trim and hydro-suspension. It was equipped with a powerful 4.7 liter gasoline engine or a 4.2 liter turbodiesel engine or a 4.5 liter 1FZ-FE petrol engine borrowed from the 80th series. And the third car is the more luxurious sibling of the 100 series Lexus LX 470 / Land Cruiser Cygnus. It was equipped only with a powerful 4.7-liter gasoline engine, leather interior, natural wood trim, hydro-suspension and many other options. Outside, it differed from the Land Cruiser 100 in a slightly different design of the front end in the form of four-lens optics and another more refined radiator grille.

A total of 14 complete sets can be distinguished, not counting the limited and special versions.

  1. STD / Standart (complete set for foreign markets, excluding North America, Europe and Japan)
  2. GX (R1, R2) (overseas market equipment, excluding North America, Europe and Japan)
  3. VX (overseas equipment, excluding North America)

  14. VX-Limited Active Vacation (Japan Package)

As well as the 80-series, formally all configurations can be divided into three versions.

On the picture Russian version of STD. Essentially indistinguishable from the UN or the Arab version.

Toyota Land Cruiser 105 (STD, G and GX) has been selected by the UN. They are used to this day, for rescue operations, patrol services, as well as for the transportation of repeater equipment and satellite communication systems.

A vehicle for transporting repeater equipment and satellite communication systems.

The STD version did not have power accessories, ABS, and airbags and climate control, for its place there was an air conditioner. The interior has been trimmed with vinyl. The floor was also finished with vinyl (for Russian versions and versions for the UN), which was not afraid of water and dirt, which later was easy enough to clean. The STD trim consisted of a four-spoke steering wheel (with an airbag), a three-spoke urethane steering wheel (without an airbag). It did not have an additional heater of increased efficiency for the front and rear of the cabin, it also did not have a leather trim for the gearbox handle, only top versions were trimmed with leather. There were no fog lights, cruise control, and the dashboard was the same on the pre-styling versions as the VX, STD and GX. After the restyling, the "Optitron" dashboard appeared on the VX, and the usual instrument lighting was used on the STD and GX. The windshield was without darkening at the top, there was no green tint, a sunroof, roof rails, side moldings, and heated mirrors. The side mirrors and bumpers were not painted in body color. All STD versions, regardless of market, had chrome door handles. On the STD and GX versions, the lower part of the torpedo did not have a plastic console like the VX. The STD did not have an anti-theft system, immobilizer, and remote control central locking.

All STDs had only hinged rear doors, some versions did not have rear foglights.

There were aluminum footrests. Cassette radio only with tuner, 2 dinovy. There were 10 seats in the cabin, on the first row for one passenger seat there was a one and a half bench, and the sofa of the second row was solid, in the luggage compartment there were two more benches that stood along the sides, 4 people could be accommodated there with less comfort. The engine was installed only with 1HZ atmospheric diesel. The rear brakes were drum brakes. The steering was with a screw-nut drive. Was shod in narrow tires with steel rims 235/85 R16.

The STD trim featured a three-spoke urethane steering wheel without an airbag. The rear benches folded when they were not needed.

Arabic version G.

Essentially the same STD difference is in the little things.

Arabic G was almost identical to STD, the only difference was in the little things. For example, the interior was fabric and not vinyl as on STD. There was also a narrow, toothed off-road rubber on steel rims. On the Russian versions, the tires were road tires, and the rims were with a shoulder.

Arab Gs, as well as Russian STDs and GXs, were without airbags.

Australia .

Australian version of Standart.

Standart. The photo shows a restyled model of 2002-2005.

In fact, it was no different from the previous two, except for the location of the steering wheel and a 5-seater saloon. There was no double seat in the front, and there were no benches in the trunk for 4 people. In addition, it did not have footrests. There were slightly different rims, and the transmission was of the Part-Time type, that is, the front axle was plug-in.

The GX package was divided into two sub-configurations for Russia and for the Arab markets, for example, for Russia there were R1 and R2. R2 was the richest package. There was no front differential lock on the R1, ABS and rear brakes were drum. The R2 already had disc brakes. R2, in addition to locking the rear and center differential, also had a front differential lock. She also had chrome trim on the lower edge of the doors and glass. The engines were only less powerful, this is an atmospheric 1HZ diesel engine, for the Arab and other markets also 1FZ-FE. All GX for Russian versions had rims of size 275/85 R16. The steering was with a screw-nut drive. The package included the R1.

  1. Air conditioning
  2. Headlight washers
  3. Halogen headlights
  4. Roof rails
  5. Power steering
  6. Electrically driven glass
  7. Antenna with electric drive
  8. Steering wheel tilt adjustment
  9. Seats with fabric upholstery
  10. Green stripe on the windshield
  11. Side protection moldings (narrow)
  12. 4 dinovaya cassette recorder with tuner
  13. Additional brake light (it was not on STD)
  14. 3-spoke urethane steering wheel, no airbag
  15. Optional rear fog light (not on STD)

You can add to R2:

  1. 4 din stereo system
  2. Front differential lock
  3. Rear ventilated disc brakes
  4. Electric winch on the front bumper with cover
  5. Luke (after 2005 R2 for the Russian and CIS market went without a hatch)

All GX models for the Russian market were equipped with an anti-theft system and an immobilizer. There was a central locking with remote control.

Salon of the pre-styling version of the GX (1998-2002).

GX version for Middle East and Asian markets.

The Arabic versions of the GX were much richer than the Russian ones. They had 2 fuel tanks with a total volume of 141 liters. Two air conditioners. Airbags, alloy wheels. The side stickers were 4500, which meant it was a petrol version. It was possible to order an additional spare wheel on the door + and a spare tire cover. The engines were petrol 1FZ-FE 4.5 liters, and the atmospheric diesel 1HZ was rarely encountered. Had 7 seats. The gearboxes were both modernized mechanical 5-speed and automatic 4-speed. The interior color was both gray and light.

Version without a second spare wheel, on standard narrow tires.

There were also Kazakh versions, just like the Arab ones, they were divided into two configurations K1 and K2.

The photo shows two complete sets of GX and GX-R for the Arab market.

In addition, it had a 4-speed automatic transmission, or an upgraded manual gearbox. body-colored mirrors and door handles. Airbags, and narrow protective molding on the sides.

Version without a second spare wheel, on standard wide tires.

Australia.

GX (up to 2002 RV)

GX grade, with hinged rear doors.Pictured is the Australian version. For Russia there was exactly the same equipment but it was calledVX up to 2002 and VX-Comfort for 2007.The only difference is that VX and VX-Comfort bumpers were painted in body color, there was only a manual gearbox and there were 10 seats. The GX trim level (with swing doors) was discontinued at the beginning of 2007.GX grade (as pictured) andVX-Comfortsold only in 2007.

4500 GXL has ABS, front airbags SRS , Only a 4.5 petrol engine was installed liter 1FZ-FE.

The gasoline version of the GXL was distinguished by other stamped rims.

GXL Turbodiesel.

All GXLs were richer than the GX. The salon of the GXL is the same as that of the Japanese VX.

Europe and Russia.

It is considered the richest complete set in some markets. Has a full power accessories for glasses, mirrors, etc. It was equipped with a leather interior, and until 2002 on turbodiesel versions it was offered with a velor interior, or with a velor interior from the 105th version, paired only with a manual gearbox. In the markets of Japan and other countries, it is also offered with a velor interior. Leather and velor were of two types, gray and light. The VX only had hinged rear doors. The engines were only the most powerful, a 4.7 liter 2UZ-FE gasoline engine, and a 4.2 liter 1HD-FTE turbodiesel. For Europe, it was completed with standard stamped disks (if desired, it was possible to install alloy wheels). Heated front seats and leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearbox handles and hand-outs. The gasoline versions had a refrigerator. For turbodiesels, a refrigerator was not provided, in its place there was a box for small things, as an option, a CD changer for 6 discs was offered in this box. For Europe, the 100 series was in a 5-seater version. A third row of seats was offered as an option. The blocking was for the petrol version of the center differential only, and for the turbo diesel version there was also a rear differential. For Russian versions it was offered with alloy wheels, 275/65 R17.

The package included for Russian and European versions

  1. headlight washer
  2. Cruise control
  3. Climate control
  4. Roof rails
  5. Body-colored mirrors
  6. Heated front seats
  7. Antenna with electric drive
  8. Body-colored door handles
  9. Electric front seats
  10. Front fog lights
  11. CD stereo system with 7 speakers
  12. Green tinted side windows
  13. Side protection moldings (wide)
  14. Luke (on some versions it was not)
  15. Power steering for tilt and reach
  16. Wood-like interior trim (since 2002)
  17. Illumination of devices "Optitron" (since 2002)
  18. 2 airbags (from 2002 to 4)
  19. Tinted windshield at the top
  20. 4-spoke leather steering wheel
  21. Leather interior (up to 2002 and with fabric upholstery)
  22. Black side steps (Russia only)
  23. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) (only for 2UZ-FE petrol engine)

Australia.

The Australian VX lacked fog lights and roof rails. But the database already had a chrome package.

Intermediate equipment between GXL and Sahara. Unlike the GXL, it included all kinds of security systems Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and (TRC) ... Also had a leather interior, sunroof, side moldings. It had two fuel tanks, 141-liter (96-liter main, and 45-liter spare tank), this is very important in the African deserts, where there are no gas stations for hundreds of kilometers.

Prices started at 4.7-liter gasoline car 68000Australian $ , and the price for a 4.2-liter turbo diesel my car was AU $ 81,000.

The cabin had wood trim, climate control, a stereo system with a display, but there was no multifunction steering wheel, a multifunction steering wheel, there was only a top-end stereo system. The dashboard was ordinary, not Optitron. There was no heated front seats.

Configurations for the Gulf Countries and China.

VX-R for Arab countries and China, the main difference is that on the Arab and Chinese versions there were stickers on the sides, there were 2 standard air conditioners in the front and rear of the cabin, and two regular fuel tanks with a total of 150 liters. They also had another starter (starter power was 1.4 kW instead of European 2 kW.), A radiator, an electronic injection control unit, water pump, etc.

Middle Eastern versions are not very suitable for use in winter conditions. Since their injection system simply does not support a cold start, and the tropical radiator does not allow the engine to warm up normally, which leads to jerking when driving with an unheated engine. For example, the second circuit of the air conditioner for the rear of the passenger compartment (its duralumin pipes rot under the body after a few winters). The Arabs have a rather weak paintwork and no anti-corrosion protection, the oil seals are not designed for cold weather, the starter and battery are weaker, and many engine parts and cooling systems differ from European ones. Just like n The numbers of many parts in the Middle East Specification did not coincide with the indices of similar spare parts for I have European versions.

Restyled version for China with a standard winch.

GXV.

The configuration was only until 2002, until 2000 it was offered only with a gasoline engine, after that with a turbodiesel engine, paired with these engines there was a 4-speed automatic transmission, there were no versions with mechanics. It was the most complete package for the Australian Land Cruiser 100. After 2002, the GXV package was replaced by the VX. It was7-seater version. The package included an audio system with 6-CD, refrigerator, sunroof, blocking of the central and rear differential, ABS, climate control, power accessories (mirror seats, etc.), two airbags,16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights. The fuel tank was on141 liter (96 liter main tank and 45 liter spare tank). The interior was made of fabric, no leather, only leather gear knob and steering wheel. Prices started at AU $ 47,460 for the petrol version, and $ 49,690 for the turbo diesel version.

Top Australian version version. In fact, it is comparable to the VX trim level, it has the same options, the only exceptions are trifles, such as the absence of a multi-steering wheel. The price wasAU $ 112,015.

In Australia, for the first two years, the 100 series was offered only with a V8 engine, only for GXV trim levels, and for the 105 model, a less powerful gasoline 1FZ-FE was installed. The new 1HD-FTE turbodiesel was introduced to the Australian market in October 2000, after being available in Europe and the UK since its launch in 1998.Automotive edition"4WD Monthly magazine " in Australia, criticized Toyota's decision to offer the 1HD-FTE diesel engine only in conjunction with the IFS.Australian monthly magazine"4WD Monthly magazine " said, "We will never forgive Toyote for going to sell a 4.2 liter turbodiesel with us."

The Japanese petrol version of the VX can be identified by narrow moldings and stamped rims, as well as the absence of a spare wheel on the trunk, it was located under the bottom. It is comparable to the GXL, GX, and VX-comfort trim levels for Russia in 2007.

Had only a fabric interior, without power adjustment of the front seats. The gasoline versions did not have a spare wheel on the tailgate. There were stamped discs, narrow moldings, there were no roof rails, a sunroof, there was an ordinary dashboard without Optitron illumination, a simple radio tape recorder, steering wheel and gearbox knob and hand-outs did not get off with leather, the interior did not get off with wood.

Turbo diesel version "Van VX" spare wheel with a lock, located on the tailgate.

It was a little richer, had a leather-trimmed steering wheel, gear knobs and hand-outs, wood-like interior trim, and an "Optitron" illuminated dashboard. Outside, it already had wide moldings, alloy wheels, roof rails.

VX-Limited G-Selection.

Richest version , had TV, "TOUH SCREEN" monitor, leather interior, dashboard "Optitron" after 2001, the interior was trimmed with wood (walnut root).

The salon got off only with leather, after 2001 also with wood.

In the photo there is a restyled version of the salon.

US and Canada versions.

The photo shows a pre-styling version for the USA.

North American versions were sold only as Land Cruiser 100 in one single top-end configuration and were equipped with only the most powerful 4.7 liter gasoline engine. There were no turn signals on the fenders, they were integrated into the headlights. All kinds of deflectors, sunroof, windows, tailgate were also offered as an option. The interior was offered only in leather, ivory or gray leather.

Salon North American version intended for the United States. Speedometer digitized in miles.

Modifications and options.

Land Cruiser 500.

Almost all Land Cruiser 500s had a 500 nameplate on the tailgate (photo above), but some versions did not have it (photo below). The TDI or V8 nameplate means that it is turbo diesel or gasoline, respectively.

Land Cruiser Amazon.

For England and Ireland, the 100th series was sold until 2007 under the name Land Cruiser Amazon.

Until 2001, Amazon had a VX / GX nameplate on the front doors, after restyling it disappeared (top right photo). In the cabinthe differences were only in the digitization of the speedometer in miles. The pre-styled models, like all European versions, were equipped with a simple radio tape recorder, and the restyled ones were already with navigation (bottom photos). Pay attention to the bottom left photo, the 4-speed gearbox indicates that in the photo there is a turbodiesel car of 2002-2003.

Until 2002, there was an Amazon nameplate on the tailgate (or rather the left photo). After 2001, made one plastic strip with the inscription Land Cruiser Amazon(or rather the right photo)... On some machines, for some reason, it was not at all. After restyling in 2002, the Amazon nameplate moved to the bottom of the fifth door (bottom right photo).

We will help our readers with advice on choosing a Toyota Land Cruiser 100.

For Russian motorists, the SUV 100 is the benchmark among off-road vehicles. It can provide both high cross-country ability on various types of road and off-road, and provide high comfort to its passenger. There is a constant demand for used copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV in the Russian secondary market. In this article, we'll show you how to choose the right used Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV.

History and design of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100

The history of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV dates back to 1998, when it was presented at the international motor show. It became the successor to the already proven Toyota Land Cruiser 80 SUV. The 100th generation of the SUV received an independent front suspension with a frame structure. The rear axle remained continuous. The Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV model is considered one of the most reliable models of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota.

Russian motorists usually choose used copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV version for themselves. However, there is also a Toyota Land Cruiser 105 version, which demonstrates even more off-road capabilities. The main difference between the 105th series is the swinging pair of tailgate doors. However, the main changes are not visible from the outside and are hidden in the structure itself. Toyota Land Cruiser 100 and Toyota Land Cruiser 105 have different frames and non-interchangeable bodies. The Land Cruiser 105 also has a continuous axle at the front as well as at the rear. Also, in the version of Toyota Land Cruiser 105, the front axle is connected rigidly.

If you want a reliable SUV with high traffic and a high-quality comfortable interior, then you should choose the luxury version of the VX. Usually this version with a top engine and TEMS electric adjustable suspension with body level adjustment.

Copies of Toyota Land Cruiser 100 from the United Arab Emirates

Avoid Middle Eastern copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100.

In the domestic automotive market, a stereotype has developed that the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV from the United Arab Emirates will not be reliable in Russian conditions. This stereotype is not unfounded. We really do not recommend purchasing Middle Eastern copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV. The fact is that most often such copies are not equipped with a cabin heater and have a tiny radiator for the engine cooling system. What they are really good at is the two air conditioners that have increased power. The second disadvantage of the Middle Eastern copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is the almost complete absence of anti-corrosion treatment for the body and the engine exhaust system. I buy such a copy, the new owner will need to immediately process the entire car, which will be hampered by its second-hand condition and the inability to unwind the already soured mountings.

Problems with the body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100

The body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV is almost completely unloaded. It is screwed to the frame with 12 bolts. The frame itself is an unreliable structural element of the vehicle. The fact is that the frame is hermetically unprotected from moisture. Dirt and moisture seeps into the profile rather quickly. Accumulating there, they begin to corrode the metal from the inside. The way out of this is to regularly fill the frame with an anti-corrosion compound. If the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 was operated in Moscow or St. Petersburg, then it clearly requires a solid frame repair. Typically, the most rusty area is the rear of the frame where the spring cushions are attached. When inspecting a Toyota Land Cruiser 100, we recommend tapping on all frame welds. This will help you understand which ones are rusted.

On the body of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100, rust first of all appears on the bumper, front fenders, in the windshield frame, on the rear door and in the sandblasting area. Old copies of Toyota Land Cruiser 100 will have peeling chrome moldings for a long time.

Problems with the interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100

The interior equipment of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV is pretty sturdy. Various levers and control buttons are very durable, indestructible. Anything can be denied from the control buttons only on pre-styling samples released before 2002. In some instances, the backlash of the steering column may be fixed. This is due to the fact that the owners climb into the cabin, not holding on to the special handle on the A-pillar, but on the steering wheel.

The interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 is very high quality and durable.

All in all, choosing a 100 SUV is not too difficult. The main thing is to bypass the stolen copies. If you take good care of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 SUV, it will serve its owner for many years to come.

What to look for when buying a Toyota Land Cruiser 100

If an SUV becomes a bestseller, there is definitely a reason. Among them, there may be an impressive cross-country ability (remember the domestic Niva), a low cost compared to competitors (a vivid example is the Suzuki Grand Vitara, which gained popularity largely due to its low price) ... However, there are cars that do not win in a specific discipline , but by the totality of qualities. This is exactly what the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 (VX) has been and remains since its inception.

Having come to replace the "eighties" so beloved by many in 1998, she was ready to satisfy any needs - to be the workhorse of a brutal jeep or the ceremonial "horse" of the head of the company, to impress with the dynamics of gasoline or diesel engines, to take on board up to nine (!) Passengers ... However, first things first.

"Sotka" and its varieties

So, the legendary "weaving" was released at the very end of the last century. To reach the widest possible audience of consumers, the Japanese offered the SUV in several versions. The first, with the STD index, most inexperienced motorists are unlikely to be able to associate with the model that they are used to seeing on the roads of large cities. To get to know it, you will have to join the crowd of off-road preoccupied individuals - it was for them that the simplest version was intended, without power accessories and with a practical vinyl interior trim. Today it is quite difficult to find a good copy of STD, untouched by the hand of the employees of tuning special centers. The slightly richer version of the SUV, the GX, is a little easier to purchase. It already has a fabric interior, air conditioning, power windows. Both modifications, STD and GX, otherwise called the Land Cruiser 105. They differ from their full-fledged "brother" VX not only in trim, equipment and some body parts, but also in the line of power units, dependent front suspension and post-time all-wheel drive. ... Spartan versions were equipped with simpler and more reliable engines: a naturally aspirated diesel engine with a volume of 4.2 liters (136 hp), its turbo version (160 hp) and a 4.5 liter gasoline "six" (224 hp). Outwardly, you can distinguish the "one hundred and fifth" by the swing doors of the trunk, while in the usual "hundredth" the fifth door rises.

At one time, many buyers of Land Cruiser 105 were surprised and puzzled by the fact that their dream come true demanded ... a license with an open category "D" - bus! The fact is that some cars had a ten-seat layout: two passengers were located next to the driver, three - in the second row, and two more - on benches along the sides.

But back to reality: most of the Land Cruiser 100 offered in the used car market have little to do with the "proletarian" version. These are very comfortable cars with a rich set of options, full power accessories, often with leather interior. Let's not forget about the Lexus LX470 model - a luxury version of an SUV - the same Toyota Land Cruiser 100, only under a different, luxury, "surname".

During its almost ten-year history, "weaving" has undergone two restyling. The first one happened in 2002: the car received a new five-speed automatic transmission, more modern optics, a radiator grill ... The list of options was replenished with separate climate control and a joystick for an audio system on the steering wheel. In 2005, the appearance of the model was again slightly updated. The rear lights are LED and the automatic transmission is maintenance-free.

And the diesel is no worse!

Most "hundred parts" are equipped with a petrol V-shaped "eight" with a volume of 4.7 liters and a capacity of 235 hp. Buyers of the full-size status SUV did not want to associate themselves with tractor drivers, so they diligently avoided the version with a 4.2-liter turbodiesel. And, I must say, in vain! The motor very remotely resembles its cargo "relatives" - it works quietly and does not bother with vibration. Of course, the upcoming long runs can become a tangible incentive in favor of buying a diesel engine. Even taking into account the fact that the price of diesel fuel is not much different from the AI-95, the difference will be obvious: the consumption of a 4.2-liter diesel engine is 14-15 l / 100 km, while gasoline in a megalopolis usually requires 20 liters per "A hundred."

Both powertrains are comparable in dynamics and, to their credit, are very reliable. They rarely complain about problems caused by fuel quality; oil consumption is noticeable only on cars with impressive mileage. The service life of the motors is quite large: specimens with a mileage of 300-350 thousand km do not yet know what an engine bulkhead is! According to the regulations, the replacement of the timing belt was initially necessary even after 150 thousand km, but after 2006, according to the official notification of the manufacturer, it was reduced to 100 thousand km.

There are few weak points in the car. On copies of the first years of production, there were often problems with the front gearbox, but in 1999 the unit was replaced with a new model, much more reliable. But especially zealous owners manage to disable it. As practice shows, especially often, gearbox breakdowns occur when trying to pull out a heavily stuck heavy car in reverse, so try not to overdo it with this type of towing. If such a nuisance has already happened, there are two options to continue driving. Of course, it is best to disconnect the cardan, but in the field it is not so easy to do this, so you can simply turn on the center lock and move on the rear wheel drive.

Often, brake discs overheat and warp - however, this is typical for high-spirited cars of this weight category. For those who prefer an active driving style, servicemen usually recommend installing DBA disks - they are enough for a long time. The rest are quite suitable for the original ones. But buying a non-original can result in a pretty penny.

In general, the brakes of the Land Cruiser 100 require special attention. Take, for example, this feature: if the rear brake pads are not replaced in time, they can ... fly out of the caliper. As a result, you will have to brake with cylinders, which will definitely go to write-off after such an extreme - along with the disks! Often worried about the parking brake cable - sagging, it knocks on the rear beam. It happens that the parking brake pads rattle. Such sounds can only be noticed when the window is open, and since Land Cruiser 100 owners prefer to use climate control, they are often unaware of this problem.

If the Land Cruiser 100 were a bad car, it would never have become so popular. I am sure that "weaving" can please with excellent reliability, if you do not skimp on prevention: periodic cleaning of radiators, injection of crosspieces. When buying, it is advisable to drive your favorite copy to the service in order to make sure that it was not raped on the road and did not abuse the reliability of the car. If a legal entity appears in the list of owners, also be careful: the car may have been used by the security service - then its condition probably leaves much to be desired. Also, I do not advise you to take copies imported from the Middle East. In our climate, you have to suffer with them: the settings of the engine control units, climate control are made with the expectation of eternal heat. The best option (especially for those mediocrely versed in technology) is the selection of a suitable car with a well-known history in the showrooms of "trade-in" dealers of Toyota.

Escort option

When buying a used Land Cruiser 100, keep in mind that the condition of a one-year car can be fundamentally different. Many of their owners are able to afford to have a suitable passenger model for the summer - then the SUV's mileage will be low, and the condition will be good. At the other extreme are VIP escort vehicles. They are chased into the tail and mane, besides the need to hang on the rear bumper of the boss has its consequences: the radiator very quickly turns out to be sandblasted to such an extent that the partitions of the honeycomb simply disappear, and the brake discs do not last long in the gas-brake mode. The hood and front fenders can be heavily coated with rusty spots, another result of contact with abrasive particles. In general, the "weave" body is quite resistant to corrosion. Its weakest points are the windshield frame, the bottom of the tailgate and the fifth door.

Toyota Land Cruiser 100 has always been popular with hijackers, so it doesn't hurt to check the legal cleanliness of the car when buying. And, of course, you should not agree to formalize the transaction under a general power of attorney. There are enough offers on the market - take your time, check out the different options. If you make the right choice, there will likely be one more fan of this bestseller.

Owners' opinions

Dmitry SLYUSAREV Age - 36 years old
Toyota Land Cruiser 100 automatic transmission (2002 onwards)

This is my third Land Cruiser 100. Recently I tried to find an alternative to it, but to no avail. Prado after the "hundred" turned out to be cramped, and the sound insulation is worse. Didn't like the Lexus LS430. In a word, I decided that they were not looking for good, and returned to the Land Cruiser 100. Despite the fact that the car changed three hundred thousand kilometers, it rarely requires repairs. The engine is in good condition and the oil consumption is very low. The body is also in order: rust appeared only on the fifth door and along the bottom of the tailgate. There are no complaints about the gasoline engine - in the city I manage to keep within 18 l / 100 km. The runs are small, so I thought about the diesel and forgot.

Alexander NEMUROV Age - 41 years
Toyota Land Cruiser 100 automatic transmission (2006 onwards)

My first "weaving" was a 2003 model 105. with manual transmission and atmospheric diesel. I took her one-year-old with a range of 80 thousand km. For six years, I drove 150 thousand. During this time, she had only one breakdown, which cannot be called a breakdown: the lower lock of one of the tailgate swing doors rusted and jammed. I had to replace him. But the diesel did not consume oil at all! Last year I changed it to a clean "weaving" 2006 year. - with automatic transmission and turbodiesel (and mileage 100 thousand km). Immediately changed the timing belt - just to be calm. I drove 25 thousand km on it, but not that there were no breakdowns, I didn't even have to change the brake pads yet! Both of my cars were sold in Russia through official dealers.

The LC 100 was purchased new in March 2007. at the officer. dealer, VX R1 grade (manual transmission, velor, 10 seats, category D) 204 hp turbodiesel. I stumbled upon this modification by accident (they say it was produced only the last year, instead of 105), a new one for 1.4 million rubles. Unlike R2 there is no sunroof, leather, electric drive of seats, radio. After a 10-minute examination, I realized I had to take it.

The best price-quality-equipment ratio for an SUV of this class cannot be found. In addition, I installed a radio tape recorder, a signaling system, a manual transmission lock, and insured it (yoke: 1.5 million rubles). I changed category D to B by throwing out the rear benches and making changes to the design of the car, it took two days of running around the traffic police. (although people have been driving 105 cars for 10 years without changing the category not in PTS, not in rights)
You can go!

Exploitation. Mileage 22 thousand km. (previous VAZ cars, CRV, LC80, Vitara, RX300) 15 years at the wheel, not a newbie. City: Consumption from 13 to 17 liters. diesel fuel, depends on the rhythm and manner of driving. A slight discomfort came to light right away - a short first gear, you don't have time to get under way, it's time to stick in the second. But this is probably the only drawback for me. Despite this acceleration is acceptable (13.6 s to hundreds) and in the stream you do not feel defective. But what a pickup from a turbo diesel engine in medium (3-4-5 very long!) Gears, pulls from 1300 rpm, once again there is no need to switch. The landing is high, you look over the stream and you manage to react in time to changes in the situation.

The attitude of other drivers is respectful in 8 cases out of 10, they only let the turn signal turn on. By the way, this also prompted me to a more courteous and polite attitude on the road. The high ground clearance solved all the parking problems - in winter on an unoccupied snowdrift, in summer - on a curb (if there are no places). Absolutely not worried about the road surface and rails - only light swaying and shaking on large potholes, and no worries about the state of the suspension.

Track: Everything is good here on straight sections. It doesn’t scour, it doesn’t crack all smoothly and with dignity. The 5th gear easily pulls from 80 to 170 km / h. The pickup on overtaking is decent, there is almost always a reserve of traction. Constant Full instills a certain amount of confidence when traversing disparate sections of track coverage. But a heavy SUV and its frame structure (as a derivative of a high center of gravity) requires braking and careful cornering (not a sports car), but in a calm rhythm of 100-110 km per hour, braking to 80-90 km per hour does not bother.

Consumption in this mode is 9-10 liters. for 100 km. I drove once on a cruise (set 99 km per hour) 500 km, so the consumption is 8.5 liters. If you drive 140-160 (I rarely drive like this, without children, on an empty highway) then 12-14 liters. but not more. In winter, snow-covered tracks do not bother at all, the road holds confidently (large mass, four-wheel drive, good winter tires).

Off-road: I constantly go fishing, and I try to turn the road into a small trophy raid. I'm not looking for easy ways. Excellent permeability. Entry-exit angles, ground clearance (excellent geometric cross-country ability) allow gullets, slides, ruts, ravines to boldly storm, never caught (though I didn't notice a hemp on the LC80 and crumpled the threshold there), but I have some experience now and I help the car head.

Dirt, slime passed along the door (this is where the first short one came in handy) blocked only the cross-axle crawling confidently. In general, if you do not put it on your belly, not pure road tires and be friends with your head will only get stuck where the others will not even reach. For full sensations, it accelerated to 80-90 on a freshly cut field. In winter, I rode on a snow-covered one, somewhere along the hub, a little higher than the snow - only positive emotions.

Inside: The salon is large and spacious. My height is 185cm for myself, it was not difficult to choose a fit, and there is enough space for me. All windows are close at hand, all cars, on the doors, folding electric mirrors button (it came in handy when he squeezed through the forest among the birches). Convenient trip computer (consumption, balance, speed, etc.), only a button to switch it without backlight.

Climate, rear stove, heated mirrors - everything you need and nothing more. I threw out the standard acoustics and put DLS-ki. What else is needed - heated seats (although not leather, it seems to have thrown a sheepskin). The trunk is huge, the second row folds 60 to 40. The tent is not needed I sleep in the car, diagonally, in full growth. A wonderful tailgate on which you can sit in three and swing your legs (it is convenient to sit down boots, boots to change clothes, just have a smoke and even set a table like this).

It's too early to talk about reliability, for the LC 100 this is not a mileage, until everything is normal or nothing has broken down. This engine has been produced for 30 years in a naturally aspirated version; in principle, one of the first diesel engines certified for Russia eats any solarium. Started up easily the first time at -32 without any webast. But I try to refuel at proven gas stations, on the banks of an expensive high-pressure fuel pump. I put the turbo timer to save the turbine. In principle, these are two difficult places in the engine, the rest is super reliable. An acquaintance of this kind in 1998 (4.2 etc. automatic transmission) covered 430 thousand km, changed only the injection pump.

Now about the patient: Service is expensive, long, boring and useless. Service interval 10 thousand km. for a diesel engine it is normal, but the price tag for work and spare parts for officers is simply exorbitant - three prices compared to an ordinary one. The queues for THAT, to be washed completely, must be persuaded, took one, did another, gave the third - the ends and you will not find someone to blame. The narrow specialization of individual craftsmen working every other day makes them ride two or three times on nonsense (setting - coordination of the alarm for the operation of the turbo timer). It only holds a guarantee. TO 10000: oil and filter change - 9000 rubles. TO 20,000: change of oil, filters, pads, handbrake pulled up - 17,000 rubles.

It seems to be all that I wanted to tell the main story. Thanks for reading. Conclusion: the car is decent, reliable, unpretentious, versatile, masculine: for all occasions of active life.

One of the more famous SUVs is the Toyota Land Cruiser. This car has a 65-year history. During this time, he gained great popularity around the world and became one of the most famous and widespread SUVs. At the same time, unlike many analogues, the Land Cruiser has retained its classic off-road design to this day. This article examines the past generation of the Land Cruiser 100 ".

Origin

This car has been produced since 1951. This is the model of the manufacturer with the longest history. Toyota 100 series is its 10th generation in the Japanese market and 4th among those sold in the Russian market. The car was presented in 1997, and the next one was launched on sale. It is the descendant of the 80 series and the predecessor of the now on the assembly line

Body

The car has a classic SUV frame structure and a 5-door station wagon body, called Station Wagon in the manufacturer's classification. In comparison with its predecessor, the Toyota 100 series has increased the body length by 70 mm, width by 10 mm. As a result, these parameters reached 1.94 m and 4.89 m, respectively, and the height is 1.86 m.The mass of the machine is 2.545 tons.

It should be noted that the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 diesel had a frame of a different design than the gasoline variants. In addition, depending on the market and equipment, the cars differed in the design of the rear door. So, on the simplest trim levels, as well as on versions for some markets, it is represented by two swing parts, one of which has a spare wheel. But most cars have a hinged tailgate. Finally, the versions for the Arabian and African markets are distinguished by the presence of two gas tanks.

On this model, the safety has been significantly increased in comparison with the 80 series. For this, shock-absorbing elements were built into the frame, and the doors were equipped with stiffeners. The body panels of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 are made of high-strength sheet steel. We also expanded the list of active safety systems. The standard equipment on the first cars included 2 front airbags. Later added side cushions and curtains. Also, Toyota 100 series was equipped with ABS, TRC (traction control system), EBD, BAS (auxiliary braking system), VSC (stabilization system).

Chassis

The car retained the design of the chassis from the Land Cruiser 80. The front suspension is an independent double wishbone type on torsion bars, the rear suspension is dependent with a continuous axle on springs. An exception is the 105 series, which is equipped with a continuous axle and front. In comparison with its predecessor, the attachment points of the rear suspension arms have been changed in order to increase the smoothness of the ride. In addition, the front and rear wheel tracks have been widened. This has improved sustainability. Some versions were equipped with a suspension with hydraulic elements that provide the ability to change the ground clearance and maintain it regardless of the load.

On the initial versions, the rear brakes are drum, on the higher configurations, disc brakes are installed on all wheels, on the front ones - ventilated mechanisms.

The wheel size is 16-18 inches, depending on the equipment.

Engines

Toyota 100 series was equipped with five power units: two gasoline and three diesel. Moreover, most of them were presented in different markets with different settings.

2UZ-FE. It is an 8-cylinder V-shaped power unit that develops 235 hp. with. and 422 Nm. The most powerful engine available for a Land Cruiser of this generation, but not in all markets, since, in addition to the mentioned option, it existed in 231 hp versions. sec., 410 Nm and 205 liters. sec., 360 Nm (both up to 2002). After the first restyling, its performance was increased to 238 hp. with. and 434 Nm. In 2005, a forced version of the engine was added, equipped with a VVT system, which develops 275 hp. with. and 450 Nm.

1FZ-FE. In-line six-cylinder engine from the Land Cruiser 80 range. Develops 212 hp. with. and 373 Nm or 224 liters. sec., 387 Nm depending on the settings. This power unit was used before the 2005 restyling.

Diesel versions are represented by one engine in three modifications: atmospheric, turbocharged and bi-turbocharged.

1HD-FTE. The diesel engine is similar in design to the previous one, but equipped with a turbocharger. Its power is 205 liters. sec., torque - 431 Nm. Before restyling in 2002, there was a simplified version with indicators of 167 liters. with. power and 360 Nm of torque.

In some markets, until 2002, the diesel engine was introduced in a biturbo version with a capacity of 250 hp. with.

Transmission

Initially, Toyota 100 series offered a 4-speed A3343F and a 5-speed manual Aisin H151F. Since 2002, the automatic transmission has been replaced with a 5-speed Aisin A750. On the first post-styling turbodiesel versions, there was the Aisin A440, and the 4.5 liter cars for some markets until 2006 were equipped with the Aisin A340. Both of these automatic transmissions are 4-speed.

2UZ-FE was equipped exclusively with automatic transmission: in the first versions it was 4-speed, after restyling in 2002, 5-speed.

For the 1FZ-FE, both a manual 5-speed and an automatic (4-speed before restyling in 2002 and a 5-speed after) gearbox were offered.

The 1HZ was equipped exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.

For the 1HD-FTE, 5-speed manual and automatic (up to 2002 4-speed) transmissions were offered.

Most versions were equipped with permanent all-wheel drive with a low gear and a symmetrical center differential with a rigid lock. Although there were also options with a plug-in front axle and a two-stage transfer case without a center differential.

Interior

Despite the fact that the Land Cruiser 80 was still considered a high-class car, the Toyota 100 series significantly outstripped it. First, the dimensions of the cabin were increased: the length increased by 90 mm, the width - by 70 mm. Secondly, they began to use better finishing materials, especially after the restyling of 2002. Thirdly, they significantly improved noise and vibration insulation. Thanks to all this, the interiors of the maximum trim levels began to correspond to the business-class sedans. At the same time, there were also simple versions with a modest interior trim.

The car was available in 5- and 7-seater versions.

Restyling

During production, the Land Cruiser 100 has undergone 2 upgrades. The first restyling was carried out in 2002. Externally, the bumpers, radiator grill, headlight linings, headlights were changed. Toyota 100 series has also undergone technical changes. So, the 4-speed automatic transmission was replaced with a 5-speed one. In addition, we excluded the simple versions of the 2UZ-FE and 1HD-FTE engines, as well as the biturbo version of the latter.

The second modernization took place in 2005. External changes were more modest: they affected only the headlights, a radiator grille and headlamp linings. The 1FZ-FE was excluded from the range of motors, but a forced version of the 2UZ-FE appeared.

Market place

Land Cruiser 100 is highly valued in the secondary market, therefore it slowly loses in price and costs significantly more than many analogues from other manufacturers of the same age. So, even the most worn-out cars are estimated at more than 600 thousand rubles, while the price of the best copies exceeds 1.5 million rubles.

Most of all on the market are Land Cruisers equipped with V8, half that with a turbodiesel. Aspirated diesel versions are even rarer, not to mention six-cylinder and twin-turbo diesels.

During production, the model was very popular all over the world. This was facilitated by the very broad scope of the Toyota 100. The characteristics of the 105 version made it possible to use it in the most difficult conditions. They were also used at the UN. At the same time, Land Cruisers of higher trim levels were used instead of premium sedans.

Moreover, there was a luxury version of the Land Cruiser 100: the Lexus LX470. Originally developed for the American market, the car was equipped exclusively with 2UZ-FE and hydraulic suspension. It differs from Toyota in expanded equipment and improved interior trim.

The breadth of application determines the modifications of Toyota 100. Tuning of simple versions is usually aimed at increasing off-road capabilities, while the maximum configurations focused on road use, increasing comfort.

Reliability

High endurance in the most difficult conditions, proven by years of operation, is due to the reliability of the Toyota 100. Reviews testify to this.

The most reliable engines are 1HZ and 2UZ-FE. Both of them, with proper maintenance, overcome the line of 500 thousand km without overhaul. 1HD-FTE is more demanding in terms of maintenance and fuel quality: once every 40 thousand km, you need to adjust the valves and change the timing belt every 120 thousand km. Possible breakdown of the injection pump at 150 thousand km.

Gearboxes are equally reliable and as durable as engines, provided the oil is changed every 50 thousand km. By the same time, oxidation of the inter-axle blocking is possible. And with the same frequency, you need to change the grease in the wheel bearings and inject the crosspieces of the propeller shafts.

The suspension is also very reliable. Usually, by 140 thousand km, amotisers and ball joints wear out, a little later the steering mechanism and by 40 thousand km is less reliable and more expensive to repair, but it can be turned into an ordinary one.

The body is well protected against corrosion. Weaknesses - the bottom of the fifth door, the windshield frame.
